Amon_ra, clockwork mod install. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there, was wondering if the newer clockwork mod recovery would install the updated amon_ra? Or is the only way to get it in that annoying instruction thread where I feel like I'm being talked down to in the disclaimer?
Thanks!

I also have the Amon_ra on HD 004 and would like to use the new clockwork mod. I might give it a few days until all the bugs are worked out though seeing that alot of people are having problems

Do you have Rom Manager? I use it to switch between Clockwork and Amon Ra. You don't even have to power off the phone for the switch.

No I don't have It as of now, but 1 click of the a button I could.

But does the amon_ra that clockwork install have the new partitions? Anybody know?

So? Anybody know? This seems to be a huge oversight that could eff people's phones.

Your best bet is to download a copy of the modified Amon RA and only flash that one. Once you get the hang of flashing images it's simple to do.

Help flashing a new rom n add-on? ?

Im not sure wat I did but now when I try to flash anything it keep saying "update aborted" and update "Edify Script". Any ideas on how to fix it??
Im Running Myns RSL 5 if that helps any
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
That error is because you're using CWM 3.0+ and only uses edify scripting and the file was compiled with Amend scripting [old]. You would need to downgrade to an older version of clockwork, 2.x.x, or switch to amon_ra 2.3
I actually prefer amon over clockwork. Easiest way to switch is with Rom manager from the market. Just hit the flash alternate recovery button
Sent from "The EVO" using XDA Premium
is there another way to swtich recovery.....Rom manager premium does not have the option of flash alternate recovery available for me
EDIT-nvm sorry I found it.
Sorry your having such difficulties, once this is all figured out though itll all come easy to ya. See if you can tryTHIS
Thanx for ya help guys, its worked out great..

In a nut shell they are the same. Some have better luck with one than the other. I originally started with clock but it gave me problems so i switched to amon. So which ever one works for you then keep it. Both can wipe both can nandroid but I think only amon and back your RSA keys, unless clock is updated now.
EDIT: conqu1stador informed me that both recoveries backup your rsa keys.
Yeah before that was the draw but both backup the keys now unless something changed again.

+1. I've had issues with clockwork but nine with amon. RA all the way I say.

ClockworkMod is really good, but when things go wrong, amon_RA is usually needed to right the wrong. Go with amon_RA.

RA has never failed me and it seems to be requested to use with the newer roms coming out ...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Your better off with RA because it works, clockwork is good after you get your wimax back up from RA ( yes clockwork backs it up too but the more the merrier) for its integration with rom manager making flashing and backing up very easy.
amon ra for sure.
I used Clockwork for a good number of months. It appeared good and I was able to rename along with a variety of other functions. I noticed something different after switching to Amon Ra. Everything seemed to back up and wipe better. Plus it partitions much better than clockwork. Go with Amon Ra and never turn back.

Download the PC36IMG.zip of Amon Ra and put it on the root of your SD card. Don't rename it. Turn the phone off, then hold the volume down and power buttons at the same time until the phone turns on to a white screen with Androids skateboarding. This is the bootloader. It will scan and detect the file - when it asks you to update, choose yes with the volume up button. When it asks you to reboot choose no, then choose recovery from the menu. You should boot into Amon Ra.
In the bootloader and recovery, you'll need to use the volume buttons to move up and down, then once you've highlighted what you want to do, press the power button to select it.

You learn more with ra. Its manual and ussualy makes no errors
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on Android OS. We now have CyanogenMod.

OMGB ROM Clockwork Version

I have a rooted EVO running the AVA-FROYOZ3 ROM. I has to has Clockwork Version 2.5.0.7 to install this Rom because it wouldn't work with the newer version. I am going to install the OMGB Stock Gingerbread ROM. Do I have to update to clockwork 3.0.0.5 before I flash the Rom?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I would recommend the latest cw 3.0 or amon ra 2.3. Preferably amon ra 2.3 imo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=705026
The bootloader method would be the easiest to flash amon ra but if you do kiss rom manager good bye (if you use it).
So if I want clockwork 3.0 I can just flash it through ROM Manager and it won't mess up my current Rom?

Correct, and it shouldn't break or mess up anything.

I doubt it, however and as has already been suggested, you really should consider switching to amon-RA v2.3. I don't know of a rom yet that can't be flashed with it and when you run into trouble, more than likely, you will need amon-RA to get you out of it. At least that has been my experience.

Yea I switched to Amon-RA and all went fine. Thanks guys. Quick question. Can I restore the nandroid backups I made through Clockwork with Amon -RA?

Use the flash_image xxxxxx.img
where xxxx is the name. Though its easier to flash it by PC36IMG file in the bootloader.
Go to the RA thread in dev n dl the pc36img version and use bootloader. 2 easy

I use amon. Cwm doesn't wipe cache and dalvik properly and can cause intermittent stability issues with the Rom even days later after flashing..

You don't. You learn how to flash a ROM/kernel via Among RA by reading one of a thousand tutorials on this forum. Use the search feature. That's what its there for.

Ok. I already have amon ra recovery. I have flashed many different things using it. I was merely wondering if you could make rom manager work with, since long ago I paid for the pro version. Thanks for the speedy replies and confirming.
