run windows mobile cab files - Windows Phone 7 General

it is possible to run windows mobile cab files on WP7? how?
windows mobile install most apps by load cab files into devices and double click in file explorer to install them, WP7 does not have file explorer.
are cab files actually compatible with WP7?
are there any hacker out there tried to work on this? or it simply no possible?

short answer: no.
long answer: no. only xap files can be sideloaded.

cabs not comatible with WP7 or not possible to run?
are WP7 app cab or xap?

WP7 uses xap's for installs. Cab's are no longer supported and do not work on WP7. No WM apps will run on WP7.
It might be possible one day to run WM apps on WP7 but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Sorry for that but there is no option to run windows mobile cab files on WP7. Cabs not compatible with WP7 and not possible to run?

How to create CAB for WM5/WM6

Hi all, what's the best software to use if I want to create .cab file for installing apps or chaing registry etc on the Universal's WM5/WM6?
I have tried "WinCE CAB Manager" but the cab file failed to be installed on my Windows Mobile emulator for some reason. I know you can use Visual Studio .NET 2005 something like that, but is there any lighter program in addition to VS .NET?
Thanks in advance!

"WinCE CAB Manager" but the cab file failed to be installed on my Windows Mobile emulator for some reason -> u maybe set the wrong version variables?
check it! ;-) i think it workz!!!
I have set it to support all CPUs and on the OS type I have set it to support Pocket PC 2005. I will give it some more go later and see how it does.
Hi, it is still not working, I have attached the screenshot of the configurations in the cab and the error messsage I get. I tried it with my Universal and the Windows Mobile Device emulator and I got the same error.
Can anyone tell me what I have set wrong in this CAB? Thanks!
BTW, I was only trying to add a small .txt file by using this .cab as a test.
I have just got it working now! I installed WinCE CAB Manager on another PC and it is working fine!! For some reason the cab file it makes on my laptop doesn't work.
Anyway, I will use the other PCs to create the cab file then.
Wrong thread... Sorry

Windows Mobile Device Emulators 6.5.x

I extracted the WinMo device emulators out of the accidentially published 6.5.x SDK (which has meanwhile been removed by MS). So if you want to give your apps a testride on them, here they are.
The zip (330 MB) contains 2 folders, copy them as follows, assuming you already have WM6 SDK installed.
DeviceemulationV65x ==> C:\Program Files\Windows Mobile 6 SDK\PocketPC
My Device Emulators ==> C:\My Documents\
You may need to modify the *.decfg files to your needs, please check the OSImage and Skin paths in each file to fit your configuration.
Windows Mobile 6.5.3 DTK has now been officially released by MS.
download DTK from Microsoft
Thanks!

.cab files?

How do you make cab files in wp7 , I know you can do it , wm6 and ce7 but where do i look in wp7?
I think you may be misinformed - wp7 seems to use .xap files, not .cab files... At least, most of the sideload apps I've encountered so far are...
Sent from my now unlocked 7 Mozart using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
i understand the .xap , but I want to make a theme and I dont see anywhere that .xaps can be the same as a cab , cabs are win ce , isnt wp7 ce?

INTERNAL xap installer for homebrew apps

Hi,
is possible to have app which can be associated with XAP file inside the WP7 ?
So I can upload upload homebrew XAP file to SKydrive and if I will not have my laptop with me, I can install this homebrew XAP to the phone.
Thanks for answers if it's possible.
For HTC devices there are the DFT Freedom Roms (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255143).
They have the ability to install .XAPs via the built in IE.
Anyway to add this to a current device ? That would be cool to have.
