ROMs w/ Backup Assistant - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone compile a list or list in this thread ROMs that have VZ BackUp Assitant. Only a handful of my contacts are backed up on Google and some ROMs don't work with Back UP Assitant which is a problem for me. Thanks in advance.

The best way to back up your contacts is to export them to the SD via the option in the menu and then reimport them as Google contacts. That way you can shed your reliance of Verizon.

Most, if not all, should work with the app. Most don't include it, though, so it's simply a matter of getting the apk and installing it.

thank you. I didn't realize this could be done so easily.

another way is to log onto the verizon site (don't remember the link) and export your contacts to a .csv, then import them into google contacts. Easy to clean up and you only have one sync icon in the notification bar. Hope it helps!

I have been rooted for a full day and this is all new to me. I have searched around a read a good bit. Love the forum and hope to be able to answer questions soon.
...change the home key to double tap brings up all the home pages, like Sense?
Go to launcher settings..then system settings..then Home button binding. Select option- "move to default desktop/show previews"
...check for updates?
Go to App: ROM Manager- Select Option "Check for Rom Updates"
...save my data (Text, Contacts, etc...) from my stock ROM and import it in to my new ROM?
First- I would start saving all contacts here on out to your Google. Dont save to phone. That way everytime you sign into google on your new ROM, contacts come up instantly. For text messages- I use SMS backup and restore. It's in the market. It backs up on SD card..and you can name each backup...
...move apps to the SD Card?
I had to move to SkyRaider cause I needed BT audio streaming again, but I believe when you go to settings>>applications, theres an option to move to SD card. Be careful when moving apps to SD card, as some rely on being on your phone.
Great! Thanks for the pointers. With this new ROM, I have so many options. I'm loving it.
New question...
My contacts from facebook can't be edited, converted or uploaded to google. Does anyone know of a app that will take my facebook contacts, including birth days phone numbers and email addresses, and convert them into a csv file so that I can upload them to google. I'm assuming that something from facebook is blocking this. But if I have the info on my phone, I should be able to do whit it as I see fit. With sense, you can link contacts on your phone. That's what I'm trying to get back, but keep it on goggle.

Check it out..good luck. I dont believe facebook will let you take out email addresses, cause privacy and stuff like that.

[Q] How to backup phone only contacts?

Hi - I have created many phone-only (not gmail) contacts with high res profile photos.
How can i backup these phone only contacts?
I tried mybackup pro but that does every contact, and fails on restore anyway.
I dont want to have to create all of them again when i do full wipes...
Have you tried stock option "export to sd"? I took a backup by using this feature which is native in Desire thanks to either android or Sense, not sure which one is correct though, anyway.. u don't need to use any 3rd party app for this. (i have been using contact pics too, all of them restored after hard reset)

I'll give it a go - thanks!

There must be an option to add them to gmail account, I always create GMail/Some other MS Exchange contacts, keeps my life easy.
Well if you want to keep the mentioned hig res contact pics then the solution mentioned above is not very usable, as you will just get your contacts on a list, which the phone can import again.
If you dont need to keep those pics, just make the backup from the contacts app, and import the file to your google account through a browser. Then sync them back to your phone. And just create all future contacts as google contacts.

Titanium backup not restoring contacts ..

Yes, I know there are several topics already on this topic, but I haven't seen a reasonable solution in any of them ..
I was running Virtuous Unity Sense 3.0 v1.27 ROM this evening when I created a complete backup using Titanium Backup Pro Root .... I have now flashed a fresh copy of Virtuous Unity Sense 3.0 v2.37 ROM, and Titanium Backup Pro Root .. I am trying to restore my contacts by restoring 'Data only' for [CONTACTS/CALLS... Storage], but this only restores the groups I had defined in contacts, and not the actual contacts themselves ... I have restarted the phone after doing such a restore, but still, no contacts ..
So how do I get Titanium backup pro to restore my contacts as well ?
Luckily, I did create a nandroid backup of my Desire Z before reflashing, so I can go back and backup my contacts through some other means, but I want to know how to get Titanium Backup to restore them ..
And please don't say that I can use Gmail sync ... I don't trust gmail contacts sync because of my past experiences ..
Thanks for your help !
Don't trust google sync?

Titanium Backup isn't configured to backup and restore contacts. It knows that Google backs up all of your contacts to your gmail account.
Make sure your contacts are syncing and the ones you're adding aren't 'Phone Only' contacts, and then sync and flash the new ROM. When you put in your gmail address it will pull all of them back down.
Why not just use MyBackup or sync with Google?

Guys, I appreciate your help, really, but I've already said in OP that I don't want to use Google Sync .... Let's just say I have had a really big mishap before by going down that road ..
Secondly, Titanium claims to back up *everything*, and people on this forum suggested similar to me, so I'm wondering why does nobody know how to backup/restore contacts using Titanium ...
So you guys are claiming that Titanium cannot backup/restore contacts ?? ... If this is the case, why does everyone like Titanium so much .. ? .. I mean contacts is such a basic thing ..

E-mail the developer about it.
^^ I was actually thinking that maybe I'm not doing something right, but I guess if you all are convinced that Titanium indeed cannot be used for backing up/restoring contacts that yeah maybe I'll email the developer
But is it a bug in Titanium, or is the feature itself (i.e backup/restore contacts) missing or something ?

No it does not. Everyone likes it because it backs up apps+data, and System data and restores when you flash a new ROM. Its an amazing app that has saved me hours of time when flashing ROMs. It doesn't back up contacts because when you use Android, contacts are backed up 100% every time. Using a Gmail account to use the phone automatically leads to backed up data. Why make an app to back it up when your phone does it automatically?
^^ I also have no intention of starting some kind of a flame war, and I only made my statement bold so that new repliers can see that point .. Like I said, I am grateful for your help ..
The reason why I dont like Google Sync for contacts is because two times my contacts got wiped out from both server and my phone, leaving me contact-less .. in the end I had to resort to an older nandroid backup to recover a partial amount of my contacts back ... now whether that was my fault or google's is unknown to me .. what is known to me is that for one reason or another, Google Sync for contacts has never really worked for me .. But apartment from this, I use google technologies, and google sync for many other things, and I love the company and their ideas ... I just don't like google sync for contacts, thats all .. And I had mentioned this point clearly in OP, and its not like I HAVE to use that, right .. ?
Anyways, I thought that Titanium could also backup contacts .. even if Google Sync does backup your contacts, it doesn't hurt to have other methods too, right ? ... I mean if you search on market for backup apps, you'll find tons of them .. redundancy ... so why should contacts backups be exclusive to google only .. ?
Anyways, the reason why I had made this post was because Titanium DOES show a backup of contacts, which is not working for me ... so I thought that I'm not doing something right ... if Titanium didn't support it entirely, then it shouldn't even make the backup in the first place, right .. ? But it did, and its just not working .. So I thought maybe I was doing something wrong myself, and that the app (i.e. Titanium Backup Pro) is fine as literally millions of people use it ..
I'm sure its able to backup/restore contacts ... I'm sure I'm making some mistake somewhere ..
And like I said, I didn't make this thread to start a flame war .. I just made this thread to get an answer to my problem, that all ... hope you understand
I guess I scared everyone off ... oh well .. :/
Titanium backup is awesome. It has saved me hours - multiple times, but to the best of my knowledge it backs up only the contacts application/settings... if it does backup actual individual contacts I would never know; as everyone else has said, I personally use Google sync. I imagine most users are in this boat. Maybe it's time you and Google contacts sync makeup.

I'm telling you, use MyBackup to handle the contacts.

I believe this to be true. It backs up the 'contacts' app and the settings for said app, but doesn't handle individual contacts info.
Why not use google contacts then export contacts to file, then you have your contacts in triplicate, phone, google and file?I must be luckly as I love the google sync function
TitaniumBackup does save contacts, you need to restore manually maybe Contact-backup-blabla (text is colored green in the list) and you need to reboot device.
But what is strange - for some reason data from my Gemini Calendar has not been restored I entered so many events... Damn...
there is backup for "Contacts and dialer" which i suppose is the app, and other entry for "CONTACTS/CALLS" which i think is the actual data. but since i have google sync up i'm not sure.
Also if you are so worried about google, how about that CarrierIQ that lies deep in the kernel and logs all your key-presses and sends em to everybody?
Cant help you with ti but i can recomend useing the option to download all contacts from google. That way you have a backup if they ever get wiped for some reason. Good luck
Sent from my HTC Vision using Tapatalk
love TB makes romming a breeze! Just use google contacts sorry you had a bad experiance but i have always used them or the carriers backup service in the past. Like the others said if you want that feature then get an app that supports is specifically or export from google lol.
Got a solution?
Hi everyone,
ahmadka, did you manage to restore your contacts?
Because I am facing the same problem. I switched from stock 2.2 to Cyanogenmod 7.1
I did a backup with TiBu. I backed up the ROM with ROM Manager.
I even backed up my SMS and Call logs using separate applications.
I thought TiBu would restore my phone contacts, but no.
There is an entry called contacts in TiBu, but it only restores a few contacts, not all.
I know the contacts are in the stock ROM, in a contacts database file, but how to retrieve them?
Do I have to flash the stock ROM, backup my contacts and reflash Cyanogen?
Isn't there a simpler way?
Thanks!
never had or heard of anyone loosing contacts stored through google, but whatever. i doubt there are many developers trying to make apps for android for something google does so well already.
titanium back isnt and i doubt will ever be a place to backup and restore contacts.
solutions, use google sync
use a pen and paper
download to simcard
download to sdcard
make your own app that does this
by an iphone, then go on apple forum and complain to them
ok just being an ass, sorry in one of those moods

Haxsync / Contacts -People help

Ok so I realize facebook won't sync with ICS so I get Haxsync that was recommended and its ok. However, I don't like this People app that ICS uses compared to the old simple Contacts. When I need to manually merge contacts I used to longpress and choose join contacts and now I cant . But I've seen posts where people say they manually join them, so there must be another way I'm not seeing. Menu options don't bring up merge or join either.
Thanks in advance for any help.

it is a bit annoying managing contacts in ics...i haven't figured how to automatically join contacts but I have been able to do it manually...for example...let's say your friend's name is "Michael B. Jordan" in facebook and simply "Michael Jordan" in your normal contacts...you have to change the name to "Michael B. Jordan" in contacts facebook and press "space" after the name change..you should see the "facebook name" be suggested right under the contact being edit..click it and it should say "join"..it is pretty annoying way to join contacts (maybe there is a better way, I don't know)...
it took almost an hour to properly sync my 70 contacts and their pictures with haxsync...sorry for the horrrible grammar and I hope it helped..
Annoying it may be... But open "people" Menu> edit> menu> join. Then either pick a suggested person or scroll down to find the right person.

Just made an already tedious process even longer. Damn girls and their stupid fb names. That's the only crappy part of wiping during ROM changes for me. Apps, data, ringtones, wallpapers, etc are all easy but damn having to manually rejoin contacts. Now even worse that's it's not native in ICS.
I'm at the point now where I think I'm just going to manually assign pictures to my contacts. Maybe download them from facebook assign them thru my contacts in google. This way the pix will stick from now on. Anytime I flash a rom, I won't need to go thru this tedious process any longer. I've given up lol.

You know I think this would make sense, but I just tried an import and the only option is to import a single vCard file from bluetooth or email.
This used to work out nicely in the 2.x.x days. You sync your google contacts and then facebook contacts. Join a few that the names don't match (ie John Doe and John D). Now with ICS, it won't even try to join John Doe with John D. Doe or Johnathan Doe, even though they are the same person.
The other thing is that haxsync only does photos. I have friends that I don't have saved in my google contacts because their info is on their facebook. Guess I could go through them and manually save a duplicate contact and number to my google contacts, but that's something I didn't have to do in the past. Taking steps backward is not what integration is about.

Well I got friendcaster then used it to sync and it copied over with crappy low res pictures, so that pissed me off. The haxsync ones looked decent at least. I'll be fine for now until there is stock integration built into to CM9. I know the OTA ICS guys have figured it out.

Haxsync does have an option "Additional friends to sync" under "Sync Preferences" - the help text says "These friends will be synced even if they don't match any contacts on your phone". Does this do what you want?
I think he means their contact info from facebook. The main app syncs not only a contacts photo, but any contact info they have on their profile.

For those who have multiple accounts and want to join them in a few easy steps:
Log into you Gmail account and go under Contacts.
Right above your contacts list, right in the middle, there is a button you click and have some settings come down. One of them is a "join multiple contacts". Hit it and it will automatically join all of them together. A lot easier if u have LOTS of multiple contacts and dnt want to merge them manually

what is to be done??
In the options their is a setting which by default only syncs people already in your contacts. You can change it sync all your friends from facebook.
Also to some of the people earlier in this thread, the latest version of Haxsync lets you write HTC tags to the notes section of your contacts so at least you won't have to do it all again manually when you change roms

Do local contacts exist on ICS on Desire?

Last some days I made an experiments with different ICS ROMs on my Desire.
I tried Sandvold's ROM v0.13 and latest COS-Bravo.
And I found a problem with contacts. ICS on Desire do not let me save a contact as a local phone contact. Remember, on 2.2 there was an option: store to phone, or store into gmail, also it was a possibility to link contacts.
Now the only way - to save save contact as gmail contact.
Does anybody able to save local contacts?
Not sure about local contacts option, but the linking contacts option is a feature in HTC Sense so unless you use that then it will probably not give you the option you are used to. Some ROM's do have alternative features which do the same thing though.
On BCM the same. Only able to store contacts as Google contacts. But hey, who wants local contacts anyway nowadays?

Pity...
I hate g-contacts because it spoils photos.
And the main idea - I don't want all my contacts in Gmail (what for?) and all gmail contacts in Phone (lot's of trash, useless to search).
So I think this function is nessesary
