help rooting my nexus and install rom

Hey guys ,
This is my first post and I was directed here as the experts will be around . I need your help guys to upgrade my phone Galaxy nexus . I have never did any thing on it . It has the following information that might help you guys to help me
Android version 4.0.4
Kernel version 3.0.8-gda6252b
build number imm76k.i9250jple1
I saw some phones that are rooted and have this wonderful images of Roms . I need to try them but I don't know how
I have downloaded the toolkit program but I dont know what ROM shall I select ?? which one is the best ?
Please guys , teach me how and let me start his journey with you

Since you've never rooted or used a custom ROM before I suggest starting with either mROM or MMuzzy's ROMs. They are close to stock but will get you to Android version 4.2.1

Remember to MAKE A NANDROID. After you use the toolkit to unlock, root, etc. boot into recovery and MAKE A BACKUP. Also, when you root/unlock it factory resets your phone, so anything not on the SD card that you want to keep, backup to your computer.

This is the thread which completely helped when I was new to rooting and all this stuff. No further help was needed. The methods are very well explained here.

I followed every step until I plug my mobile in the fast mode , my computer asks me for drivers .!!!
I have tried to ignore it and I continued the step to flush the ROM , but finally it gives me a message as " Waiting for your Device " >>
Guys ..any idea ??

It's telling you exactly what the problem is. Install the drivers.

From where I can get these drivers ???

I'm glad you're using fastboot.
Search for naked drivers.
Or use the guide in my Sig or stickied at the top of this forum.

No. Need custom recovery and an unlocked phone to install the recovery.

Dont rush the root
efrant and jubakuba have both written guides. I suggest not using the tool kit until you know how to use adb/fastboot.

Don't ignore what your compter says....
Go to the samsung site and download/install the driver http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SCH-I515MSAVZW

I'm almost there , I have unlocked my phone ,get the drivers , moved the ROM into my memory , but when I go the the recovery mode to select the ROM and do the following as was request by obe memeber ..
wipe data / factory reset
wipe cache partitoin
install zip from sdcard
choose zip from sdcard
The recovery mode wont complete , it shows one robot with red exclamation mark . Then after few minutes , it got restarted .
What's wrong ??

ROOT privilege on CUBOT A8809

Hello everyone, this is the first time I write on this forum
I just bought a Chinese phone dual sim, CUBOT ALP8809 (A8809), and would like to obtain root privileges.
Until now, I could not find a software or a guide to solve the problem.
The phone is not widespread and little known in the various forums. I think we have the same phone, but with a different brand.
I would also like to know, if I cause damage to my phone, making attempts with various existing programs.

the easiest root ever
it worked great just make sure you put the zip file on the internal 2gb sdcard with the usb storage mode on you should see it.do not unzip it just drop it to the sdcard not in a folder.

I followed your instructions and the procedure is successful!
I just find it hard to get into recovery mode ... the phone stopped on the screen of the robot 3D Andorid, but after a few minutes off again normally, but in the end I could not.

I wonder if this would work on other chinese android too? Im planning on getting a samsung s3 clone with quadcore cpu! Its really beefy for a chinese phone!

I tried to root, but I get the message:
Error: Invalid partition setting 17: fat 741e8000:629e8000
....Instalation aborted
I have new phone, 1 day old, Android 4.1.1
Is there a solution?

Is it particularly important that the SD card is 2GB, but not more?
I tried with 16GB sd card and I got the message:
"Error: Invalid partition setting 17: fat 741e8000:629e8000

I have not tried it, but some say it works

Broken Cubot
Goodmorning!
I tried to root my Cubot, this went horribly wrong after which the phone is now stuck on boot.
I've tried several times to do a factory reset, but the phone doesn't respont to is anymore.
The only functions still active are Back-up and Restore.. So now I was wondering if perhaps any of you has an Back-up of his/hers cubot a8809 so that I can Restore my phone, this is kind of my last hope to fix the phone since Cubot is not responding, and the phone doesn't react to their refresh-software..

At first I thought that it didn't work, but after a few hours of trying I succeeded.. Found out that Cubot's program doesn't support Windows 8.

[Q] Galaxy Grand Duos GT-I9082 CLONE (MT6572 Chipset)

Hey guys, I have here a cloned Samsung galaxy grand duos GT-I9082 which is owned by my neice and it comes with MT6572 Chipset and a 1GB of RAM. So the problem is it was boot looped due to change of dpi and the worst is, she used the root function in MTK Droid tools though it is already rooted via framaroot and I think what she does really messed up the device. Now I can't access the recovery (through pressing both volume down + power) though it's in chinese language before. When I tried to boot it normally, it just opens the backlight for 10 seconds then turns off then turns on again. When I pressed the volume up + power, "Android System Recovery <3e>" pops out, which is strange co'z it wasn't there before (according to my neice). The only way adb detects the phone is when I choose "apply update using ADB" and there it was detected as a sideload. Lastly, when I do a normal boot while connected to a pc, in device manager, an "MT65XX Preloader" driver pops out (meaning it is detected) before the device restarts again.
So, does this phone still have a chance to be fixed? I feel it still have a little chance, but I don't know anymore where to find any solution to this problem. Hope you guys help me regarding this issue. God bless!

UPDATE: I've found a working ROM for my phone in 4shared. But it does not detect the inserted sim cards because it doesn't come up with "secro.img" file. You might try flashing this ROM here: (kindly remove spaces on the link as XDA prohibits posting of links with at least 10 posts.)

I'm glad that it also works on your device. And finally I've found a workaround for this undetected SIM cards problem. All you have to do is to enter your IMEI inside the engineer mode. So first, download "MTK engineer mode" in play store then in the app, choose "MTK settings" and then tap "GPRS" then enter your IMEI for SIM 1 (if you only have 1 IMEI, you can both enter the same IMEI for SIM 2. DO NOT INCLUDE SPECIAL CHARACTERS). After typing your IMEI, tap "Write IMEI". Do the same procedure for SIM 2. Once you're done, close the app then restart. Hope this works for you.

I already discussed before on how to change IMEI sir, just re-read the post #8.

i have bricked my device i9082 MT6572 clone, same with yours right? most probably, the ROM you flashed was a little bit incompatible due to its scatter file. i've detected the problem and you had not included the secro.img which is essential for the IMEI, though flashtool can't include it coz the address is not correct.. after hard works, i've got to have a working ROM but i've not uploaded it yet. i'm gonna upload it soon so please, stay tuned

It's not public.
And could you please provide me with your board ID ? (The clone phone's motherboard ID is written on it, you have to take the phone apart to get it) if it's not much to ask
I have a I9082 MT6572 clone with board ID: W05-MB-V2.0 , the device is infected with Timeservice & Monkey test and several other malware that I don't know how to get rid of except with a fresh flash.

It says "The CF-Auto-Root file works only on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 SM-T210 and SM-T210R. As applying this to any incorrect variant might brick the device, verify the model number of the Galaxy device by selecting Settings>> System>> About device>> Model number. "I don't dare try it.My device is SM T-116nu.

I can get access for esfile to write to external memory, but i can not update su binary from superuser

I install Busybox Supersu & Am I Rooted(# Black Color) and install with your Permroot.apk when I remove my SD-card, and It's worked ;D
but My Supersu just ask to update new library every time and failed. Now, I uninstall Supersu and my tab 3V still rooted. I think this PermRoot.apk (Chinese app) act like Supersu and should not install together.

i need it to move my data / obb game to external memory

I remove my SD-card before and put it back after finish. My game on SD-card can still access, no problem at all.

Lenovo ViBE p1 Root

Hi everyone. I am new and I agree that I am complete noob in this field. I have never did any update to my stock vibe p1 ROM because it runs very smoothly and I never encountered a single issue like other users had. Now I want to just Root it but I don't want any upgrades( in terms of version update). I know that this question may have been answered earlier but all the listed method is so confusing. Can anyone please just put the step by step instruction on how to root my vibe p1 and please share the link of the necessary files in this thread. I am sorry for wasting your time but I need to root it to gain access to my network settings. Thanks in advance. :angel:

Try Kingo Root.
All you need is an laptop or pc, or you could try Kingo Root apk file.
Look on uncle Google for this app.
Good luck.

You could tell this important information in your o.p. so we can skip this step.
Now... write here what your system is, like what is written in: Settings/About phone/Device information/Build number.

Thanks for reply. That is the exact thing I meant when i called myself noob. My build is p1a_42_s137_151028_ROW. I did mentioned I got confused though I know this is not a new topic. I think the process (in the link) is for upgrades and what I want is just root because I never got a 100% satisfied user after any upgrades let it be via ota(starting with 30mb patch) or custom Row. My handset works perfectly fine. No lag no heating , no battery draining, etc. I want to root because I want to tweak network settings which is not possible with non rooted mode as SQL is not accessable. Sorry i was not able to provide whole info but I truly don't use blogs or social sites so I lack the idea.

Tell me one thing!
When you tried to root your phone with kingo root tool, did you activated USB Debugging option from developer section ?
If not, activate this option from developer option and try again.
To activate this option you must go to : Settings/About phone/Device information/Build number and press fast many times on it till developer tab is activated.
Go to Settings/Developer options and activate the option from there.
Write here what is going on.

Yes sir I did that via USB connect option. Did anyone had success with kingoroot? But they did not mention vibe p1 in their support list. Thanks for quick reply.

you are right the root for this device is not avialable by kingoroot.they r actually working on it , may be in future we will get it.

There is a bootloader lock on the phone. Applications is useless. The bootloader must first be unlocked, or root application must be installed on the rom. The best solution for you is to unlock the bootloader lock and install twrp. Please see the following page:

That entire process is for unlocking the bootloader? Let's say I have done that but how can I get rooted without updating my raw row?

Well I can only say that with my rom 288 the process was If you have already unlocked bootloader is using QFIL and selecting rawprogram_twrp.xml put supersu zip on your sd card boot into twrp recovery and install supersu zip.

It probably works with the qfil file of your same rom. You need to add and flash bootloader files into the same rom(data can be deleted). ROM version is not important for the bootloader file. If the process is successful, you can install twrp and supersu.zip
