Ok so I searched the forums but I can't find a topic like this so I thought I'd bring it up.
I'm from Ireland, living in LA. My Windows Live ID is oooold and was created in Ireland. Now I love my windows live id I don't want a bloody new one thanks. So anyway I got the DVP and started it with my Irish Windows Live ID, all contacts and all that are all fine BUT when I go to look on the marketplace I notice that I missing stuff I should have like Netflix for example.
So I'm thinking is this because M$ still think Im in Ireland eventhough all the region settings on the phone say the US? Has this problem followed me from xbox live. On xbox live I still get the Irish dashboard & Irish marketplace offerings.
I can't believe that this problem still exsists and that it has crossed over to Window Phone 7, this is VERY bloody annoying! gurrr!
Also can anyone recommend a way around this while still using my current windows live id. For example on my xbox I have a american account (live id) that I use to log in, download/buy what I need then log out. Once the app/game is downloaded to my xbox I can access it from my Irish account. Weirdness but it works!
:'(
have you tried going to LIVE.com and altering your location and such there?
M$ don't let u change the country field for some bizarre reason. Once you choose a country then you're stuck with it, something they don't actually tell you when you're creating an account of course!
I am able to change from UK to US just fine on Live.com under Account.
yes u can change it "aesthetically" but it doesn't actually change the region of you raccount, ie: you will not be able to get content for US (only) if you originally created ur account for the UK even if you're living in the US.
So for me, for example, I'm in the US, on T-Mobile US etc... but I can't find, view or install apps like Netflix, LastFM or WHERE. In fact there are hardly any (good) apps that show up for me at all on my phone which is just a disaster, I can't believe that this problem has leaked over to Windows Phone 7.

Hi Guys,
I have been following this forum for years, but have never had the need to post til now.
Coming from a G1, I've just made the transition to a glorious Desire on a Orange UK 'Panther' tariff, from Phones4u.
One of the highlights of the tariff is fee access to their Orange Maps app (supposively pre installed), which I'm told is a semi-decent sat-nav software. But I found no reference to it, or any other pre-installed Orange crap on my phone. After spending over 30 mins on the phone with an strong indian accented Orange Rep named 'Ricky' (suprisingly better informed then the usual monkeys*), it seems I was sold a generic Desire phone from Phone4u with none of Orange's pre-installed crap....YESSS!!!
Here is the issue, it seems you cannot get access to the Orange Maps app from a non-orange branded phone. More specifically you can not access h**p://orangeworld.co.uk which has links to download it from a generic phone. Even though i'm paying for the service as part of tariff.... frekkin Toasters!!!**
In my determination to stick it to the man, I have found what may be a solution, but do not know how to apply it to the Desire. The following thread with a non-obvious title: "How to install Orange Maps on non Orange Firmware" (google it, can't hyperlink it, as I'm a new poster), has a solution for a Samsung phone and I'm wondering if I could get it to work on the desire:
The fix.
1) Enter Admin setting menu *#5239870*#
...........
5) goto number 7, UAgent
should look something like this:
SAMSUNG-S8000/S8000
XEII2 SHP/VPP/R5
Jasmine/1.0
Nextreaming
SMM-MMS/1.2.0
.......
change the second line to this:
POIG1 SHP/VPP/R5
so it now looks like this
SAMSUNG-S8000/S8000
POIG1 SHP/VPP/R5
Jasmine/1.0
Nextreaming
SMM-MMS/1.2.0
.....
save and exit.

what is a uAgent and how do I change it on the Android OS? Will it even fix my issue?
Whilst the maps is a feature I want, I'm not desperate enough to cancel my contract => goto new contract with Orange phone with Orange ROM. So It'd be great if someone could help.
Many Thanks,
Digital_Apoc
Update: Ok so it seems I can't access orangeworld.co.uk via WiFi on my phone but CAN over 3g if I switch off the WiFi??? Still going the the maps page gives me "Sorry byt Orange Maps will not work on your handset...." though the desire is on the support list...

Definition of Ironic:
Text from Orange...
"Welcome to Orange and your Panther plan. Get started and setup your inclusive services by clicking h*tp://orangeworld.co.uk/r/panther"... lol
I had that installed for around a day before I flashed my desire with the generic Rom to get rid of all the orange cr4p. If I remember it looked just like google maps which is free unless someone can tell me differently.
I tried to set it up, as it was free, on my Orange branded handset. I kept getting an error about not being able to set it up correctly; this is quite common on this phone it seems. The app itself was installed but the maps would not download/configure correctly.
I rang tech support for another issue and they told me that the phone is listed as not compatible with Orange maps, god knows why it comes installed on their ROM. So until they either update the program (or more likely enabled a flag saying the Desire can use Orange maps) we probably won't be able to download it. That said you might be able to get the apk from somewhere? May just be tech support were lying/drunk
I flashed my handset with a generic ROM to get rid of all the Orange garbage anyway and now I can't even re-install the app itself using the link from Orangeworld (You can text 'Orange Maps' to 247).
I seem to only be able to access the orangeworld portal using a gprs/edge connection, it doesn't like umts it seems. Maybe someone with it stilll installed could try setting it up over a 2g data connection?
Sorry I can't be of more help, good luck =D
I used it when I first got my phone but it was pretty rubbish to say the least, google maps navigation is a much better product.
With Google maps navigation available, what's the point in sticking with Orange Maps providing you don't download more than your FUP permits.
I hate what Orange have done to this phone. The salesman on the phone even lied to me saying that they were using a generic ROM.
Are you sure you can't visit h**p://orangeworld.co.uk on a generic rom? Make sure you go via the Orange APN and not through a wireless network as that is not allowed.
I'm a bit confused by this.
My Orange Desire (I'm on panther) once charged first time, I tried to connected straight to the net and the phone seeked the settings and worked without any intervention. In fact I think it did it right at the beginning when gmail wanted to synch.
A few hours later I debranded, and upon reboot.. the same thing, was all automatic.

yes this ^
why do you need to go to orangeworld anyway? there's nothing of any value there
Orange Maps
You don't say but I assume yo're in the UK? FWIW I tried the Orange App and it wasn't a patch on the updated Google Maps with Navigation. It was sloooow and poor definition. So IMHO, forget it!
The commets about only connecting to Orange World through the 3G I can also confirm, but I have no idea why they'd want to do that...?
I agree use google maps navigation, coming from using TomTom on WinMo I prefer Google Nav, only thing I miss is the speed camera updates and custom voices, the google one is crap
Hi guys,
I want to access marketplace but since i live in Sweden it wont let me access it.
I have a dev phone and a zune account and everything...
Any ideas?
Im in the US and I can't access marketplace either. All I can see is the homepage and the games that are going to come to WP7 thats it. I'm not sure if its different for anyone else.

tried changing it to UK... but no change on the phone... will try again in an hour in case it takes time to replicate the setting or so..
Have you changed location under Region and Language in the control panel to UK or USA on your pc? If not, try that and restart Zune. Worked for me.
Or are we talking about accessing it directly on the phone? In that case you will need a UK or US Live account.
And i'm guessing you have the latest version of Zune!?
Another thought! I can access marketplace in Zune on my PC. If i use my swedish Live account on my phone when i get it, download apps thru Zune on my pc to my connected phone. You think that will work?

Yes i actually meant on the phone, i wasn't aware that you can access the zune market for apps on your pc!
Also yes i do have the latest version of zune 4.7... the crappy part seems to be that you have to hard-reset the phone to set another live account
I was wondering if anybody has had succes with this. Tonight i will receive my first Windows Phone 7 device, the HTC 7 Trophy. My country is The Netherlands. I am know wondering if i will be able to download apps from the Marketplace. Microsoft NL has said that dutch people would need to change their country in the Windows Live Profile to US for access to the marketplace until it will be released finally in 2011 here.
Can anyone confirm this? I'm talking about access to the Marketplace trought my Windows Phone 7 device from within the Netherlands?
hello all,
I once had an account us-live, in November 2010 transformed it into the account pl-live (polish account).
Now of course I do not have access to the marketplace, and trying to change the region - get the message that the change can be made once every 12 months.
I wonder how i can shorten this time?
access--enabler
This might just be the solution

Im going to try it asap

I use a live account with UK country setting and ING card and it works fine. Just put in a valid UK address with your own name. Some cards won't work.

Hard reset and use UK or UK live account in setup.
You could use wp7 freemarketplace
When you're on internet explorer and click the search button it sends you to Google search why? How can I change it to search with bing? Thanks
Mobile Providers can do it.. yet don't know how.
On my Mozart it does the annoying T-mobile search, even with an unlocked phone. I don't understand the reason. The boot logo is t-mobile, too. It has no branding on package, hardware or providers. Just the Software thing.
so btm I'm also curious to know how to change the IE mobile search... Any ideas?
i believe that's the carrier modifications... not sure if it can be overriden at this stage... hopefully MS provides capabilities to set our own defaults... please bring this for the next update...
Someone wants to remove Google from their IE as search engine here.

no help
no I still can't find a solution to this issue
T-Mobile or your carrier changed the settings on your phone. I don't know why, you are buying a Microsoft product that has alot of Bing in it regardless. Your only hope is that Microsoft gives people the option to change this in the future or that T-Mobile (or your carrier) comes to their senses and puts Bing back as the default in a carrier pushed update.
Even if the only options were a radio button that said "crap the carrier got paid for" and "Bing", would be a nice option, Bing is best on these phones so far, and I like Bing and google near equally
Are there any drawbacks/limitations to using a Windows Phone out of contract outside the markets which it was sold? Will all the services be available? XB Live, Marketplace?
I was looking into getting an HTC Trophy (vodaphone startup) and wanted to know what problems I may encounter by not using it on Vodaphone.
well
1. if wp7 is not lauched in your country - you will have prob in WINLIVE acc creation . for example i disquise myself as american ( lol but still )
2. some nonextensive problems with credit card add..
all could be solved .. nothing rly serious
They are going to come with guns and breach your door. Hide your kids, hide your wife..

I am currently using Unlocked US T-Mobile HD7 in Russia. The phone itself works fine (calls, 3G internet, GPS), but I can't access X-Box Live and Marketplace yet, so I can't buy apps and I have to download them manually
If X-Box live and Marketplace is not available in your county, you can only "jailbreak" your phone and install them manually. So if you have unlocked phone you should not encounter and other problems.
What problem will I have with windows live account creation?
You can create Windows Live (not X-Box Live) account and use it to sync contacts, calendars etc without any problems.
Thanks for the info.
If you live in a country that does not have Local Scout in Mango (e.g. Canada)
Set your phone to English US in settings - region + languages. It'll then restart your phone and you'll have access to local Scout.
Just did that and it works (I am in Montreal, Canada for the record). Before that I did not had local scout nor bing audio icon in search.
I did that and bing audio icon is still missing..
Always had the local scout icon since the beginning though...
Does this mean that these features are going to be USA market only? Again like the voice search is currently?
If so, massive fail and i'd be really annoyed.
I have no clue about that but the fact that it works (data is available at least) is a good sign. I used to only have an eye and a mic icon. And now I have a town icon (Local Scout) and a music note (Shazam like search).
btw Local Scout is pinnable so you can easily know what's around you on the go.
You can get the local scout option to appear, but doesn't mean it'll find anything.
Here is China it finds nothing nearby, so I've turned off all location based searches - pointless if Bing doesn't have info on the country.
I've tried this, and can only get local scout to work. I'm in canada as well. I really wish bing audio worked, shazam takes forever to load.
yup, if you set "use my location" as ON from bing search option, local scout icon will appear, although it doesn't necessarily mean it will find anything around your region.
local scout finds nothing in my area too (surabaya, indonesia) because it is not supported region
getting bing audio is still mystery for me. However, a friend of mine in my region (indonesia) told me that he has bing audio icon on his by setting up region as US.
Mine is developer unlocked and did the mango update the official way. His is not. Maybe it is different mango build???????
Just set your Browser & Search Language to English US.
I'm living in Indonesia and Bing Audio just worked. I leave my Region and System Locale and the other to Indonesia. Successfully identified "Party Rock Anthem (LMFAO)", "Price Tag (Jessie J)", "Bounce (Calvin Harris)", "Give Me Everything (PitBull)", etc.
Of course, Nearby would return nothing, since I'm sure there're no data for this country yet.

strange ... maybe it's device specific bug. mine is dev-unlocked focus.
After switching to English US everything is available and seems to work in Germany. I've testet music search(like Shazam) and works. Local search works also and finds everything in my location. So Germany might getting additional options for Bing. But it wouldn't surprise me so much as windows phone has a bigger market share in Germany than elsewhere in the world.
Hmm.. I am using mozart, but another bloke is using mozart in indonesia and his got bing audio too..
This is weird that changing these settings is working for some people, but not others, I can't get bing audio either, I'm in Canada too.
Maybe it is because I've set up my Zune account as US even if I live in Canada, my computer is set to English US too.
That's possible seeing as how some of the zune services aren't available here in canada.
iam done wid this...thanks a lot..juz changing the region and languge gives u many more options..thanks a lot
Doesn't seem to work if you Pin Local Scout to your start screen.
Shows no location data available for me, yet going into Bing, then tapping local scout works.
In canada, btw.
