Hi Guys! really new to all this and don't really know what I'm doing, I rooted my HTC Desire quite easily with unrevoked3 (very painless), however I have realized a rooted phone is wasted on me and I'll prob do more damage than good if I leave it this way.
I have tried to unroot it with a few diff options I have found here however keep failing (it seems like the case with anyone who has a 0.93 bootloader) I have found the following method but i think its for an EVO, my question is would it work on a Desire with 0.93 bootloader?
STEP 1: DOWNLOAD
Download both the PC36IMG.zip and the S-On Tool to your PC Desktop. DO NOT EXTRACT
STEP 2: MICRO USB
Connect your device to your PC with the Micro USB cord.
STEP 3: DISK DRIVE
Chang your charging options to Disk Drive.
Menu > Setting > Connect to PC > Default Connection Type > Disk Drive > Done
STEP 4: S-ON TOOL TO SDCARD
Transfer unrevoked-forever-son.zip to the ROOT of your SDCard.
(Do not transfer the PC36IMG.zip yet)
STEP 5: TURN OFF DEVICE
Power down the device by holding the Power Button for 2 seconds. Allow it to shutdown completely. Wait about 10 seconds before next step.
STEP 6: RECOVERY MODE
Hold down VOL DOWN + POWER until device boots into a White Screen.
Move to RECOVERY by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button.
STEP 7: FLASH ZIP
Select unrevoked-foreverson.zip in the selection area and press POWER button to complete the FLASH.
STEP 8: IS S-ON, ON?
When the FLASH is complete, Reboot the device into the Bootloader screen by holding down VOL + POWER until it boots into the White Screen. Check to make sure it says S-ON on the TOP. If it does, select RECOVERY with the VOL DOWN toggle. (continue to step 9)
If it says S-OFF, repeat STEPS 5 - 7 until it says S-ON.
STEP 9: TURN OFF DEVICE
Power down the device by holding the Power Button for 2 seconds. Allow it to shutdown completely. Wait about 10 seconds before next step.
STEP 10: RECOVERY MODE
Hold down VOL DOWN + POWER until device boots into a White Screen.
Move to RECOVERY by using the VOL DOWN toggle and select by using POWER button.
STEP 11: TRANSFER PC36IMG.zip TO SDCARD
Connect the MICRO USB Cord. There is an option for this in both the Amon RA and Clockwork recovery.
Transfer the PC36IMG.zip to the ROOT of your SDCard.
STEP 12: UNHOOK USB FROM PC + USB OFF
SAFELY remove the USB from the PC and then turn OFF USB in Recovery.
The Device will check for the PC36IMG.zip and then ask you YES/NO to apply the newly introduced update. Press VOL UP = YES or VOL DOWN = NO.
Once Completed, press VOL UP to reboot.
thanks for any help on this
Try using this method instead:
Download your original RUU from shipped-roms.com
You could try also try OTA_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.2-2.10.405.2_R_P_release8gn61bgo3rswcw24.zip if you wanted to. It is a generic RUU and is not for a specific carrier/network.
If you download the RUU .zip and not the .exe, rename it to "PB99IMG.zip" (and not PB99IM.zip.zip, the .zip is the extension and is not part of the actual filename itself)
Mount your SD card and then place the PB99IMG.zip to the root of the SD card.
Unmount the SD card and turn off the phone.
Hold down the volume down key, and press the power button once, release the vol down key when in the Bootloader screen.
You will then be asked to apply the PB99IMG.zip.
As a result, this will erase all your phone data, just like performing a hard/factory reset.
Note: if your were originally branded, you will require the use of a Gold Card also to bypass the RUU CID check. To create one, see the Gold Card tool below in my sig with a card reader or another phone.
Note: If you download one of the RUU .exe files from shipped-roms, then the rom.zip file will need to be extracted from the RUU in Windows, renamed to PB99IMG.zip, and placed to the root of the SD card (same procedure as described above).
Thanks, I will try this in the morning once I have extracted the rom.zip and renamed etc,
I will let you know how i get on fingers crossed.....(really worried)
ok I couldn't wait till am,........I am happy to report your method work brilliantly......huge thanks mate.....!

You can now re-root your phone by running Unrevoked 3 and make a new Stock + OTA Antenna backup in nandroid.
I was following these instructions to update my radio... I am at the point where I've put the update.zip file on my sd card and I am rebooting into recovery. My device now displays a black screen with a red triangle/! over a picture of a device... I pulled the battery once and the device powered on, so I tried again and I have the same red triangle/! over a picture of a device... WHAT DO I DO?

Trying to a manual update on a stock phone, hold power button and volume up keys get bootloader, reboot, reboot bootloader, power down, select bootloader now I have a menu of fastboot, recovery, clear storage, simlock, hboot usb select recovery and reboots superquick and goes back to the first menu bootloader reboot reboot bootloader power down. Thats it keeps the same cycle, nothing about apply update. What am I missing? This was a replacement phone that came with the OTA update already applied.

this post makes no sense. if youre trying to do a manual update you go to settings, system updates, and take it from there. if you're not rooted you will not have a recovery image on your phone and can only load stock roms.
this is from another forum:
USB Cable
- Mount phone on EVO (you should see USB icon in status bar at top of your screen on EVO. Pull down status bar and click the USB icon. Mount)
- Copy downloaded file onto SD card listed in My Computer. (Just drag it on there)
- Unmount SD card and unplug USB Cable
- Turn off EVO
- Hold down the VOLUME UP button and push the power button
- Use the VOLUME button to select RECOVERY mode and push the power button to select
- Once in Recovery mode Select “apply update.zip” or “install from .zip” (depending on your recovery image)
DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE
YOU DO NOT NEED ROOT
Is this incorrect? Just trying to install the froyo update file from HTC.

he left a step out. if you are not rooted you will not have a recovery menu. So once you select recovery you will get stuck on a screen. once you are stuck on that screen press volume up and power at the same time (it may take a couple of tries) then an option to apply zip will pop up and it will then install.
thanks p-slim... will give it another go. so far it has just been looping inbetween the menus. thanks again
Well I dont know what went wrong it just kept looping between the menus. I justed rooted it and went on.
after youre done rooting, you need to remove or rename the PC36IMG zip file. otherwise you cant get into recovery.
This a copped post from djR3Z whom i thank for the guide in the first place. The reason that I am reposting this is because it took me countless hours and more help form other members to make this work for me. When I started this unroot process I did not have my HTC Sync drivers installed and when I ran the RUU program it would see my Evo for a second then lose the connection. After installing the HTC Sync drivers all went easy and I was unrooted in about 12 minutes. Again thank you to djR3Z and to all that commented on my original post for helping me get unrooted.
A lot of you have been asking for how to unroot the EVO, either because you're having problems and want to start over or you are returning your phone and need to have it unrooted. I've had nothing but trouble in the past trying to unroot using other methods, especially using the RUU on a PC. It always fails for me. Well here is the most simple guide to unroot!! Thanks to regaw for helping me with this, hosting, and the Unrevoked team for the S-ON tool!
HOW TO UNROOT THE EVO VIDEO WALKTHROUGH
How to Unroot the HTC EVO 4G
◄●REQUIRED DOWNLOADS●►
Unrevoked S-On Tool
PC36IMG
◄●SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS●►
If you're comfortable with everything Android related(flashing, recovery, etc.) then its just 2 simple steps:
If you used Unrevoked Forever at any time, flash unrevoked-forever-son.zip from recovery until hboot shows S-ON
Flash the PC36IMG.zip from hboot
◄●DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS●►
If you need a little more guidance, follow these instructions.
◄●If you have used Unrevoked forever, start here●►
Make sure you have downloaded the files linked above. Do not extract them
Connect your phone to your computer via USB and change to "Disk Drive" by dragging down from the notification bar.
If you have NOT used Unrevoked Forever, skip to the instructions below. If you have, transfer unrevoked-forever-son.zip to the root of your sdcard. Do NOT transfer the PC36IMG yet. It'll only cause a hassle and make this take longer.
Once complete, power off the phone
reboot into the recovery by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen. Then select RECOVERY.
Depending on what recovery you're using, you need to flash a zip. Select the unrevoked-foreverson.zip that you just transferred and complete the flash.
When complete, power off the phone. Reboot into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen. If it says S-ON at the top, select RECOVERY and skip to step 9. If it says S-OFF, repeat steps 5-7 Until it does.
◄●If you have NEVER used Unrevoked forever, start here●►
Power off the phone and reboot into the recovery by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen. Then select RECOVERY.
Connect via USB. There is an option for this in both Amon RA and Clockwork.
Transfer the PC36IMG.zip to the root of your sdcard.
EJECT THE PHONE FROM THE COMPUTER and then turn off USB in Recovery
Power off the phone and reboot into the bootloader by holding VOL DOWN + POWER until it boots to the white screen.
It should check the PC36IMG.zip and then ask you YES/NO to apply the update. Press VOL UP for YES
Once complete, Press VOL UP to reboot.
You are now unrooted!
hey guys i just wana ask for help couse its really urgent.
i wanted to go back to stock and install ru on my desire.
i was on alpharev s-off and cm partitions runing insertcoin and was having no problem.
then installed htc sync and runed RUU_Bravo_HTC_WWE_1.15.405.4_Radio_32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11_release_122704.exe and it stoped with error.
now when i turn on the phone i just feel the normal vibration when it starts and the screen doesnt start at all. im stuck.
in device manager as soon as it turns up i get android boatloader interface device.
i think its becouse ive installed an older ruu on SLCD device and using the search engine i found out its not compatible with new versions of Bravo.
but please help what should i do to fix it? can i push somehow the new ruu in the phone or what? please go step by step couse im really new at this
fastboot
now ive read how to install fastboot and when i run fastboot devices i get a response that HT08VPL01168 fastboot so it means ive managed to go in fastboot mode and the phone is not dead? what next?
Can you access HBOOT? (Power on with volume down selected)
If you can, connect your phone via USB and run the following RUU:
http://shipped-roms.com/download.php?category=android&model=Bravo&file=RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
I'm presuming that you've already created a goldcard? (if you're phone originally came branded, you'll require one.)
re
no i dont need goldcart its unlocked and unbranded phone.
but i cant access nothing cous the display shows nothing. the only thing ive managed is with back+power to enable fastboot mode of the phone and connect using usb cable with fastboot on my pc. when i run the fastboot devices in my command prompt it shows the phone so it means its runing. how can i push the ruu in the phone from my pc only using the pc?
Have you tried powering on with volume down, waiting 20-30 seconds, connecting your phone via usb and then running the RUU provided above?
EDIT: follow this guide - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831734
ill try it now
u have to run thhe ruu in fastboot mode or it wont work
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Make sure its not in hboot

Good point - in that case, I would personally try booting with volume down, wait 20-30 seconds, press and release the power button once to select fastboot, connect your phone via USB and then run the RUU.
re
i run the ruu in fastboot using power+back but i cant see nothing in the display. the only response i get in the PC. and when i runned fastboot oem gencheckpt i got response the device manager changed to my htc and shows htc desire phone found. before that it was showing like i mentioned above. but now when i start the ruu i get conection error 170. strange. is there a command to flash the ruu or the pb99.img using fastboot smthng like fastboot push pb99.img for flash?
Try flashing with a PB99IMG.zip: http://shipped-roms.com/download.php?category=android&model=Bravo&file=PB99IMG_2.29.405.5_Radio_32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.zip
I quote from the guide I referred to earlier:
5. What is PB99IMG.zip? How do I use it?
It is the actual ROM in zip format. You need to put it in the root of your sdcard, and rename it to PB99IMG.zip. Then, when you start phone by Back Button + Power button (Fastboot), this file is automatically found by the device and prompts you to update ROM with this file. Note that you may need a gold card. Note also that in Windows, if you try renaming the file, it may get renamed to PB99IMG.zip.zip. Delete the extra trailing extension.

And quoting this post:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=880268
FOR INSTALLING ANY RUU AS PB99IMG.ZIP
Press Vol- , then w/o releasing it, press Power button + Vol –
After 3-4 secs, the following screen shows up momentarily:
· Fastboot
· Recovery
· Clear Storage
· Simlock
This shows the above few options for 2-3 seconds, and then directly checks for PB99IMG.ZIP. It displays:
SD Checking…
Loading…
PB99DIAG.ZIP
Pb99DIAG.nbh
PB99IMG.ZIP
When it finds PB99IMG.zip, it starts to load it (13 secs after you press the Vol- & power key)
It gives the next options after 2min 20seconds (for the WWE 2.29 RUU) from the initial key press of Vol- and Power key.

1. Bootloader
2. Radio V2
3. Radio_Cust
4. Boot
5. Recovery
6. System
7. Userdata
8. Splash1
9. Splash2
Do you want to update device?
<Vol Up> Yes
<Vol Down> No
So, net key sequences involved:
· Back+Power
· Power again
· Vol Up
If we chose No, next option:
Do you want to reboot device?
<Vol Up> Yes
<Vol Down> No
If you pressed Yes, then:
Update is in progress..
Do not power off your device.
1. Bootloader -OK
2. Radio V2 -OK
3. Radio_Cust -OK
4. Boot -OK
5. Recovery-Unzipping/Updating
6. System
7. Userdata
8. Splash1
9. Splash2
It cycles through each of these in turn. For me, it took exactly 2 min 17 secs for time when I chose to apply update, to when update was completed.
(Note: At times, it may update the bootloader and reboot. If you have an SLCD screen, when the device reboots, you may not see anything onscreen (black). At this point, it is notable that the device boots to Fastboot instead of Bootloader, so you will need to press Power button again to get it to resume the update process. Once it completes, you will be presented the options to reboot the device. So you just need to Press Vol + after some time)
It displays:
Update complete
So you want to reboot device?
<Vol Up> Yes

it means the recovery image has not been flashed properly .
i prefer you to follow below easy steps
Step 1: Flashing the Custom Recovery UI by XDA.cn
Again, make sure your device is S-OFF.
Again, make sure your memory card is formatted FAT32.
Place the PG76IMG.zip file into your phone SD card.
Disable Fast Boot from your phone settings (Settings > Power > Disable Fastboot)
Turn your phone off.
Hold down the "power" button and the "volume down" button for a few seconds till you see the HBOOT screen.
Don't press anything. The system will scan for some files and it will prompt you for an update. Move the cursor to OK (volume up) to start the flashing process.
After it finishes, press the "power" button to restart the system.
Let Android boot and delete the PG76IMG.zip file from your SD card via USB.
Congrats! Custom recovery has been installed. Process to step 2.
Step 2: Flashing the rooting script by XDA.cn
Copy the root.zip file into your phone SD card.
Turn your phone off.
Boot into recovery: Hold down the "power" button and the "volume down" button for a few seconds till you see the HBOOT screen. Let it do its thing and then select "RECOVERY".
At the recovery menu, use the volume buttons to select "install zip from sd card".
Then select "choose zip from sd card".
Then find the "root.zip" file on the list.
Select "YES".
Let the script do its thing till you see "Install from sd card completed".
Select "Go Back" on the menu till you find the "power off" option and select it.
Turn your phone back on and let Android boot
you can use the custom recovery PG76IMG.img or else clockworkmod recovery from
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
cwm recovery have more options ,so i prefer you to use that .
you can find those FILES in the source which i have specified.
