Awesome CyanogenMod for the SGS ! Those dudes are fulltime HaXXorZ - right ?
Nope, just normal users like you and me who taught themselves how to port and fix the CyanogenMod sources to make them run on our loved SGS - so give them a break with additional functionality questions
What do you mean by porting ?
use the all-knowing Google or Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porting)
this means, e.g. that you use the code from the Nexus One and add drivers and other needed stuff to make it work on the Samsung Galaxy S & after that compile it to the language of the SGS and make a ROM out of it (adding more stuff)
So who to ask if I need additional languages and features ?
Ask "upstream" (the developers/guys who develop CyanogenMod)
Where have the ROMs gone to ?
Disappeared - CyanogenMod 6.1 for the SGS currently is NOT for inexperienced "users" - so you need to build it on your own from source
(in fact they moved to cyanogenmod forums but that's NO reason to flood those forums, too, with "stupid", inexperienced/noobish questions)
Why are there less posts on forums.xda-developers.com from the developers than before ?
Inexperienced users scared & annoyed them away with noobish questions
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
if you need information how to push stuff and other tasks:
read about android-sdk-windows or android-sdk-linux
there you'll find adb
with which you'll be able to do things like putting your phone into download-mode, push files to it and other nifty moves

I just compiled the kernel, but now dunno what to do :S
Yeah I got system.img and kernel... I know you use nandroid but the only nandroid I can find is for the G2. How do I do this bit?
Well idea is to push them to sd-card for ex. /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/cyanogen
and
create MD5 hashes 'md5sum *img > nandroid.md5' (use adb)
boot to recovery, wipe, restore,boot, apply gapps, boot.
Someone correct me if wrong.
Don't you flash kernel with Odin? And is that before or after applying the nandroid?

if you have a kernel with clockwork-recovery integrated like the ultimate lagfix kernel or the speedmod kernel by hardcore then you allready have nandroid! you just copy the system.img to your sdcard/clockwork/backup/somedir folder. then you freate a nandroid.md5 file with md5sum system.img > nandroid.md5 and your ready to restor. be sure to do a factory reset/wipe before or after and flash the cm-kernel.
edit, @Anteuz: hah, you were faster. and no, you are absolutely right
You can also unaffs the system.img, and make an update.zip, with modem and kernel, and put the gapps in the same zip. I did it this way and its running nicely. No sd ext acess yet tho.
I wonder if its only to add new symlinks in the update script to get the sd ext mounted properly... hmmm
something interesting: i pulled the newest initramfs from aery before and saw that they have changed the mounts from rfs to ext4. i am currently compiling a kernel with ext4 support ... now we only need a update.zip which converts data udn dbdata to ext4 and we are ready to go (or we use ul-kernel to convert...). this should give us another speed boost
Now if I only could be able to compile working system.img, currently it dies of some strange issue like:

It's been a while since I've been compiling anything on *nix. I am mainly Java guy. Anybody have any glue what's going on with that ^^
I do get some drm\java errors when I start build and then it said something about changing api but that got solved with make api something..
Another whisky and another go around.
Right, doesn't the ext4 conversion require an update.zip? I remember Aery saying that over in the other thread I think idk.
Doc is your zip based on the newest source from git with ext4 and everything?
Any chance you could post your zip? I know it might encourage stupid people to flash but that's life I guess...
At least could you write some brief guide on how to do it?
Also I found this on Google, is this the current kernel? http://www.multiupload.com/R6KFORO36L
If Doc could share, I could mirror the zip from my dropbox public folder for a while, so there would be no need to mess with rapid upload or some other annoying file share services.

My update zip is heavily modded so maybe better to make a new one. i just compiling a new rom with the latest changes.
Yeah I want to be sure he has the latest zip with ext4 stuff and everything going on, if that could be shared that would be great.
Repo sync and building from source takes absolutely forever on slower computers, this would help a lot of people who are "mentally qualified" to run this but don't have the time/horsepower to get it going in a timely fashion.

I am not sure thats its a good idea to post an update.zip. Would be to easy for new users to break things.And the rom devs should have the honour to do this. Its still a beta and some important things is not functional yet.

Okay I will keep working on it.
I'm currently building using the instructions on the OP in the main thread which I take it will produce a system.img. Then I can produce the nandroid.md5. If I flash the nandroid and then flash the kernel, reboot, flash gapps, etc. will I be ready to go? Or will this not work since it needs to convert to ext4??

I read on mdj's thread that alot of ppl are complaining about lag in CM7, would you consider as AOSP release? Thanks soo much!!!
Had a FC when starting Navigon Select before applying the fixed library.
Replaced with your library now NS (&GPS) works without any problem!
Thx again!
Hopefully you guys did not forget to reboot? Otherwise i don't know!
another tip...
if you got a FC while starting Navigon Select, just remove the Navigon and reinstall it again
Should work afterwards.
Sounds like permission issues, check that the new files have the same permissions as others in the same folder.
Just tried this update with Navigon MobileNavigator on a Nexus S with Gingerbread(2.3.1) It's let me get past the spash screen without a FC. Just downloading the maps now. Hope the rest of the app doesn't have any other problems.
Many thanks for this fix.
(I did change the permissions and ownership of libmedia.so with these commands
chown root.root libmedia.so
chmod 644 libmedia.so
)
Rob
EDIT: Confirmed that this is working on my device. Thanks for a great fix.
Nice and easy Tool:
http://www.softsea.com/review/Portmon.html
Maybe someone saw/know the yellow Message "UPLOAD data to pc"...
How to catch Data if "Bluescreen" comes and "UPLOAD data to pc" message appears?
It seems this nuke my Portmon...
Any suggestions please?
Maybe I'm blind or these are not stored in Debug folder...
Best Regards
Edit 1.
Changed title.
If you have a Windows XP machine left, try this to watch the serial port:
ups, i can't post links here. Google for serialmon dot com .....
It's output is a little easier to use than portmons. In general, using a serial port monitor to watch the communication between wave and pc, seems to be very unstable business.
Now I'm closer...
Taken info from Samsung GT-S8500L Wave Training Manual SW.ppt...
If someone needs the Settings to attach handset correct, ask me... in this Thread.
Best Regards
Could you post the settings, found this earlier, but couldn't do anything with it.
Thanks
I'll try to describe "short" steps.
1.
You have to be sure that Debug Level Middle is on. Please read here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10616930&postcount=3
Level Mode High shows more events...
2.
If you have access to Internal menu:
*#7092463*#
Maybe set to High or go to Debug Settings... described in ...Manual SW.ppt...
site 15
3.
Start WinComm and now check site 16 on *.ppt manual. All settings are on Picture.
4.
On handset I have choose Debug Mode instead Kies... this thingie if you plug cable into Wave... maybe go to Settings and set to ask by connection instead Kies
5.
Be sure you choose the "second" Port. Now Wave have 2 COM Ports activated.
Second one is for incoming Data.
Hope this helps an little bit.
If problems ask again.
Then I'll try to make some Screenshots or maybe some other hints...
Best Regards
Ehm have you found that Wincomm2010.exe

I will try later maybe Open or Close for connect to the port.
Important is to choose second COM Port...
Also important to activate UE Awake in settings like on Picture.
As it seems initial AT command is mandatory AT+WINCOMM...
Best Regards
P.S.:
I'm using XP 32 Bit... no other OS tested by me.
so now you can upload fw files from the phone or what???
so now you can upload fw files from the phone or what???

Now you could see internal process like Key press, which files involved... etc...
Many high technical stuff. But this could help to understand more.
For me it is very usefull.
I will soon attach few Log examples... maybe then more clear.
Best Regards
i don't suppose that anything can be done if *#7092463*#
doesn't get me a menu?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12798896&postcount=5
Please read deeper this post and follow Links.
As Internal menu is disabled if you flashed ever Rsrc2_S8500_xxx(Low).rc2
Or if you not use Multiloader, then Kies did for you.
This is internal stuff, you have to "unlock" few things before... so read my instruction prior posted.
Please. This is more for advanced users. This is NO must have for all users.
At your own risk.
Best Regards
It seems also good idea to set Trace Level to High... in Internal Menu.
Best Regards
Edit 1:
Seems difference between Firmwareversions...
On JE7 I can see logging if handset is "off" if battery charge Animation is on.
Then if you press ON you can see parts of Booting sequence...
On JL2 I see first something, if Wave is fully on...
Maybe in higher Build some things disabled/removed...

There are three jwc_properties.ini files. 1st one in Appex>SysDefault>Java>jwc_properties.ini, 2nd one in Exe>Java>jwc_properties.ini and 3rd one in SystemFS>User>Exe>Java>jwc_properties.ini. Use trix, TkFile explorer or Stune. Personally, I think the first ini file is fore the default java apps on the phone. I think the 2nd one is useless since I didnt see any java apps in that folder using stune. I think the 3rd file is for user installed java apps. I dont know since I am still in the process of modifying the whole bada firmware as far as possible and then I will later flash my phone with my custom firmware. Maybe you could help me tell which files are used for what? Ok, enough talk. Now here are settings for heap sizes that I used: (You can find heap settings at the end of each file)
## Limited MVM configuration
MAIN_MEMORY_CHUNK_SIZE = 82313216 # (78 * 1024 * 1024) + (500 * 1024), 78.5MB
JAVA_MAX_HEAP_SIZE = 65011712 # (62 * 1024 * 1024) + (0 * 1024), 62MB
JAVA_MIN_HEAP_SIZE = 10485760 # (10 * 1024 * 1024) + (0 * 1024), 10MB
MAX_ISOLATES = 4 # AMS Isolate + One application
The last setting, MAX_ISOLATES is the max number of java apps you can run simultaneously while paused. My setting allows 5 apps to run simultaneously. (Remember, Max_ISOLATES value should be one less than the desired value.) Earlier it wave could run only 3 apps.
I am surprised the Samsung provided low java heap sizes for such a good phone! Anyways enjoy!
Thanx astrotom
I'll try next days.
About WinComm... now I understand what this setting means...

Disable Upload Funct
Enable Debug Mode in Low
If I try to enable... Can't enable as Dbg Lvl Low...
This U700 is damaged... (damn Touch keys)... maybe I can repair... maybe I can find out what Upload ... can do.

Edit.
I've set Debug Level to high, then also Enable Upload Funct is available...
But still no idea how to start Upload...
how to send AT commands to the phone? i have the first port of my phone as COM9 and the second one as COM10
Current latest: RLS 1b
Based on dzo's Latest Fresh Froyo build v2.2.2
Perfectly Working on:
Radio versions: 1.65 and 1.70.19.09
Kernels: Clemsyn's .32 kernel at #63, l1q1d's latest .32 kernel.
CHEEEEEEERS!
2.6.25 with androidupdate.tgz, you get everything working. ADB, Dual MOUNT mass storage. So I recommend using l1q1d's latest 2.6.25 kernel with androidupdate.tgz module
Download 2.6.25 Kernel: (Set at Panel type 1, Keyboard = TyTn II, 240x320)
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13514617/HTC Kaiser/2625kernel/2.6.25_KAISIMG.NBH
Download andridupdate.tgz (for 2.6.25 kernel + wifi)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/androidhtc/files/modules/androidupdate.tgz/download
- Put androidupdate.tgz in andboot folder on your SD Card
- Enter Install menu
- Apply update
- Fix Permissions
- Quit isntall menu and you are done
RLS1 Changes:
(contains Gallery3D and ONLY Launcher2)
Removed:
- Live Wallpapers
Added:
- A cool and Nice bootup animation
- Font: PT Sans as Default font (free to use)
- Zeam Launcher (default home is Launcher2 which for some reason I cant remove)
- Modified Live Wallpaper Picker (The one I used on Kyle's Not So Super Froyo, though it makes your device run at Turtle's Speed)
- AndExplorer (Simplest and fastest file browser with its small size)
- TypeFresh (handy application for installing your own custom fonts)
And some bonus apps
Ofcourse its deodexed and US only
Works awesome with clemsyn's kernel on #63 (free RAM is 46MB with Autokiller)
Download clemsyn's kernel from here:Download Here
Todo:
- Search more FREE and Versatile applications to keep you handy on times
- Find a gallery 3D Alternative (I am sick of tideous waiting to generate thumbnails, dontcha?) Found and updated in 1b
- What you think if I release a Totally stripped Froyo? (removing all the extra google junk?)

This is not a hardcore modified release, just a versatile one which has handy apps which I put through using 7-Zip. Since I have to test my build after putting every application, its still in updating process and I will frequently post the updated tarball.

- Get Rogue Tools here (To overclock / Change screen density)
RLS1b: (Gallery Update)

Added Apps:
Autokiller (ads version), Classic Gallery, Modded Camera App

Many thanks brother, I am already trying to put the Gallery2D and the Camera app which opens Gallery2D instead of 3D, the sooner I am able to test it on my Kaiser
And I am still a hand back regarding Gingerbread since (maybe) the kernel is not fully supported or (maybe) its the horrible feedback. Also I am afraid to put my Kaiser into risk coz changing kernels leads to stampeding the Disk on Chip. I will do soon but after alot of testing and stripping here and there.

Yes I have tested it and the Modded Camera app is causing this error. I have updated camera app now in the All Lang 1b. Do test it and report, It should open Classic Gallery app and camera should work now
Great job dude..!! I running through Haret with no major problems.. few crash as expected. downloaded and installed few games, apps and no problem.. camera works..!! wifi.. gprs conexion..
Keep testing.. but for now the best build I've tried..!! smooth..!!
Regards from Venezuela..!!
Good job very stable for me no crashes, I odex all ad decrease booting 3 time or more
I'm dowloading and can't wait to test it. I'll give you report after testing
Edit: So i've tested and i can say this rom rock's. Its incredible fast and i didn't noticed any bug. Two thumbs up man
And Btw: I know that is stupid question but is there some way ho to install a new version without loosing all installed apps and data?
Report any problems and test it thoroughly, I'll be eager to fix em or troubleshoot accordingly. This will help bringing an improvement in upcoming RLS2. Currently I am looking for nice and handy apps and sweet alternatives as well.
Thinking of removing Google Talk Client and putting IM+. Will save me some kilobytes of space I guess.
I recommend my RLS 1b since it has got extra topping (froyo, you know what I mean )

I will post a separate androidupdate.zip with every new release So that it will be convenient for you guys not to reformat again.
Many thanks for the feedback
The all lang version was a quick fix, putting all the stuff back into the stock build and re-checking. I will release 1c soon with some minor tweaks. (Trying another unicode font which fits better and change the bootup animation as it is in US version)
I haven't tested if Data is working or not, please do confirm that your Data connection works and sync is ok. I never use Google Sync

What a noob!!!
I get the all language RLS1b version and the correct kernel, and camera is working now Now I can take pictures! But when a switch to video mode I get the same error the I get before.
So I installed the US version (I haven't tested the video mode before) to test and unfortunately it gives the same error
Then I installed the aLogcat program. And this is what I get when I switch to video mode (I hope this help):

Although this problem, your build is very nice. Do you have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Has this something to do with the panel type? I'm using type 2.

Video doesn't work. On some builds it appears as it is recording video but it isn't and on some builds camera simply crashes. Bad as it seems but its this way
Call me crazy but my phone got sleep crashed earlier which forced me to perform a battery pull... aaaalmost got ready to flash back another rom until it booted up and showed no data corruption like everytime i've experience before with other roms in these cases!! Clemsyn's kernel is real deal. The phone became non-responsive for me as well when I unplugged the charger. To prevent device hic up after removing charger is to bring it out of sleep, then disconnecting the charger. If you disconnect the charger while device is in sleep, its most likely to cause a lock up.
I had manually done pinch-resets alot before releasing this build, later I found out its kernel related.

PD: off topic question.. Why when I move app's to sd running haret.. and try to run it it just said APP IS NOT INSTALL ON THE PHONE..??
Just installed and it works
I just install this MyFroyo (NAND install) and all seams to work fine (wifi, net, restart). Thanks !
I don't know why but since I flash my phone with android (and radio 1.71.09.01 in the same time), the phone didn't charge when the phone is off (usb unplugged, battery remove/put, usb replug) : orange led for few second, a white flash on screen and orange led turn off.
The below guide is targeted mainly for E4GT owners but has been found to help other Samsung devices as well.
In ICS the file has been changed to the standard wpa_supplicant.conf in /data/misc/wifi. However, you cannot just copy the old bcm_supp.conf data in here as the device id has also changed.
For all cases where you see something in < > you need to replace it with your information in quotes. Example "MySSID", etc.

Please refer to above for placement. If this does not work then please proceed with modifying network settings as mentioned above.
Thanks to fellow posters, such as kobridge, sfhub and others for continuing to suggest ways to keep poking at this!
Did you have a chance to check /system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf?
/system/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf
I'm guessing this is the template version that builds when not found:
Code:
[email protected]:/system/etc/wifi # cat wpa_supplicant.conf
cat wpa_supplicant.conf
update_config=1
ctrl_interface=wlan0
eapol_version=1

p2p_listen_channel=1
p2p_oper_reg_class=81
p2p_oper_channel=11
GB bcm_supp.conf
And for comparison here's my bcm_supp.conf before I went to ICS:
Please ignore the name bcm_good.conf as I always keep a good copy in /sdcard.
Code:
[email protected]:/system/etc/wifi # cat /sdcard/bcm_good.conf
cat /sdcard/bcm_good.conf
ctrl_interface=eth0
update_config=1
device_name=Wireless Client
manufacturer=Samsung Electronics

key_mgmt=IEEE8021X
eap=PEAP
phase1="peapver=0"
identity="[email protected]"
password="xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx"
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"

}
Just for kicks I tried renaming and dropping this one in as wpa_supplicant.conf - no change.
Not sure if you checked this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369856
I think it's the same issue.
A driver change would explain why the path changed as well - but I'm hoping this is a result of the leaks and will be resolved prior to OTA. If not then a big reason that I got this will be out.
Will probably pull the TAR for EL29 and see if I can find any differences... will pass on my findings here.
*Edit* OK, can't pull the ODIN .tar files where I'm at so I'll see if I can find it in Calk's EL29 build for now.
*Update 2* Driver dhd.ko is in the modem. Now I asked this before and supposedly modems are interchangeable. Will check again on using a GB modem with ICS but if good will try flashing EL29 modem and see if it fixes. Also changed /system/etc/wifi to EL29 contents.
Results #1
OK, here's what I did:
1) Replace /system/etc/wifi contents from FC22 with EL29 contents. (Includes 2 remounts to change to rw and back to ro)
2) Used ODIN to flash EL29 modem to replace driver.
3) Created /data/wifi directory and copied EL29 bcm_supp.conf there.
Turned back on. wpa_supplicant.conf was still the driver but was being rebuilt from bcm_supp.conf when I removed it. No change.
I just reversed #1 and flashed FC24 modem. I'm going to try rebuilding from scratch and see if it's just something in the config at this point.
Still trying...

More digging appears to indicate that this happening a lot with the 3.0 kernel - some fixes are out there for other Sammy devices. Again, hope that this is just a leak issue and that they will address this before OTA.
I'll post any more relevant updates as I get them.
Morning Update
Since it looks like this thread got quite a bit of reading I figure it wouldn't hurt to post an update.
First off, Wi-fi itself on FC24 radio and updated wpa_supplicant.conf is working fine for WPA-PSK. I've also ruled out the p2p comments in the configuration as these are part of the expanded support in the 3.0 kernel.
So I'm back to something with the driver and still trying to figure it out. Guess since Android never properly supported this PEAP/MSCHAPV2 configuration without editing (at least in my experience) it can't be affecting too many people. If anyone has a contact in Samsung you may want to pass this on to them and ask them to look at it.
I have not seen a problem with my WPA2 with caukens ICS 1.2
Is that simple WPA2 with password? If so I think I haven't had problems there either - it really seems to be with this WEP layered tunneling.
A little side note - a Cisco guy was in our office a few weeks ago and didn't know about this problem until his tablet couldn't connect to our Wi-Fi. Guess that most people are going away from the multi-layered authentication - at least using this combination.

Can you direct me to instructions on how to edit this to work with PEAP/MSCHAPV2 in detail on EL29? My work uses this for our secure network and Android phones/tablets have never connected to it very consistently (it will if you sit still, but moving in and out of coverage or AP to AP is a nightmare). I haven't found anyone with much help. I'd love some detailed instructions. WebOS and iOS have figured out how to connect with ease.....just not Android.

Here's what I did for EL29. You'll need to be rooted to do this:
1) Start ADB debug and type in SU to get superuser access.
2) cd /data/wifi
3) cat bcm_supp.conf > /sdcard/bcm_backup.conf
(Change from this command prompt window back to Windows)
4) Now use a hex editor to modify that file and add the following:
Code:
network={
ssid="[B]<Add SSID Here>[/B]"
group=WEP104 WEP40
auth_alg=OPEN SHARED
scan_ssid=1
key_mgmt=IEEE8021X
eap=PEAP
phase1="peapver=0"
identity="[B]ID here, usually network ID[/B]"
password="[B]Enter password here,normally network password[/B]"
phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
priority=[B]Use last number not assigned in other networks.[/B]
}
Save this as a file bcm_good.conf on the USB storage. (11GB partition)
Note: I have had it work sometimes by editing in Notepad, but I notice the hex editor always works. Line breaks appear to be the difference - you'll see a hex value 090A I believe between each line.
5) (On Phone) Turn off Wi-Fi now to replace the config file.
If you mounted the USB mass storage please also end this.
Now back to ADB Shell window:
6) rm bcm_supp.conf
7) cat /sdcard/bcm_good.conf > bcm_supp.conf
8) chmod 660 bcm_supp.conf (reset permissions)
9) chown system.wifi bcm_supp.conf (reset ownership)
Restart Wi-Fi and confirm connection. If it doesn't connect here you may need to tweak the settings slightly.
And for reference if anyone wants to know what options are in wpa_supplicant you can find them HERE. This does not include the p2p additions made available in the new 3.0 kernel.
Hope this helps! Good luck!
Worked great! Very detailed instructions. You rock!

Follow Up
Since my MIL has my phone for a few more weeks I've been researching this further. I haven't found any case of ICS yet where this was working properly. A few posts talked about the MAC address not being correct but I have ruled this out in my case as the MAC address shows just as it always has.
Further searches found reports on Google Code but no fix. I find it hard to believe as devices start switching to ICS that this will remain unsolved.
Anyone that has experience with the Linux 3.0 kernel and/or wifi (particularly PEAP/MSCHAPV2) please feel free to throw in any suggestions to try and get this working again.

Weekly Update
Sorry for clogging the thread but figure it doesn't hurt to share these findings. Have received a few PMs asking about this so obviously there are some reading up on it.
I flashed the nodata FD16 yesterday and dumped /system to /sdcard/sysFD16 and then thought more about sfhub's suggestion to check the wpa_supplicant binary. Thought this was in the modem so flashed EL29 modem and then dumped /system again but to /sdcard/sysEL29. Moved both to external_sd and brought the card to work since I can't bring the phone.
Got to work today, checked both out and they seem to match file for file. Dates are different but sizes are identical, which I didn't expect. Guess that means I should try pushing the full EL29 package, dump and compare again. (Will probably back everything up using TB though to save some of the headaches.)
I got to thinking and noticed in /system/etc/wifi the NVRAM_NET.txt file. Are these values are automatically applied when flashing through ODIN? I briefly noticed some values resembling these when looking through either ##DATA# or ##DEBUG# (don't remember which one) and will look again when have time. I know the device id changed in wpa_supplicant.conf, maybe it's looking for the wrong one still?
FD26 Update
As of FD26 I've noticed a new change, may have been since FC24 but wasn't able to test it at work.
The scan completes but now it doesn't even attempt to connect to the network! It seems like I've taken a step backwards
*Edit*
Found the problem - was failing due to the WPA-EAP in the key_mgmt section. That got me back to where I was.
Played around with it a little more and finally success! I'm on my network at work!
I'll be posting updates as I reintroduce the p2p strings, so long as they play nice.
Updated first post with a note covering FE14 and later (as of FE16).
