Hi all,
Successfully rooted my Desire today using Unrevoked method.
Since I quite like the Sense UI, I've decided on flashing the "[FroYo Sense] LeeDrOiD V2.3b (17/12 l Official l OC&UV l FAST l STABLE l WWE)" ROM.
My phone software details are as mentioned in the signature.
a. Can I flash Leedroid without upgrading radio, etc?
b. How exactly do I format my SD card in ext3 partition? [Can't find a tutorial/thread to do the same.] --
Also, regarding using gparted in linux, do I directly, say use card reader/connect the phone and format? Since I have a 16GB SD card, I intend to have a 1 GB ext3 partition.
What exactly does "Flash Rom (you may need to toggle signature verifacation)" mean? :-o
and
"# Flash Radio (unless you already have it)"??
I am following the steps/instructions from this link - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=768703
Thanks in advance.
Radio is fine (don't flash any radio until you really know what you are doing), to toggle signature verification go, in recovery, to 'install zip form sd' there is the option to toggle verification.
How to partition your sd cared with gparted is mentioned enough, do some more searching. There are also some videos on youtube on how to do it. If you have the ability to use a cared reader use it.

So, with the radio version I have, I can still flash LeeDroid ROM, right?

Although, it is said that flashing the radios recommended by the dev would be better for battery life, but I guess it is quite open to interpretation.
You could also try using Rom Manager (by ClockworkMod) to partition your SD card through your phone. That's what I did. Less hassle (probably?) than using gparted or installing additional software on your PC.
ROM Manager (from the market) is your friend.....
Will allow you to partition an EXT3 (up to 512mb - Im still trying to figure out how to create a 1GB partition) and then will allow you to flash LeeDroid ROM.
ROM Manager is very simple to use. Just copy the ROM (zip) to a folder on your SD card, use ROM Manager to create your EXT3, do a NANDROID backup (!!!), and then flash the ROM.
Best bet is to backup your apps and data first (use Titanium ?).
LeeDroid ROM is great

To easily create your partition up to 1024 MB, you can use an Ubuntu live cd of GParted by either burning it to a cd or boot it from a usb stick: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download.
Or, you use it from within Ubuntu (vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVK-tJe8pXE&feature=related)
1) Connect your phone to your computer (or use an SD Card adapter...., in this case skip to 4)
2) Pull down the notification bar and mount the phone
3) Start Gparted
4) Gparted will search available drives. (Your phone should show up as a USB drive, and will be something like /dev/sdb1 or /dev/sdc1, etc..)
Warning: double-check you've not selected a hdd by mistake!
5) In the upper right corner, select the correct USB device for your phone. (i.e. check to make sure it is correct size for your SD card)
6) Right click on each partition and select 'unmount'
7) Right click on each partition and select 'delete'
If you know what you are doing, you can re-size the partitions and add a new 2nd partition formatted as ext2/3/4
8) Right click on the big gray bar (should say unallocated x.xx gb) and click 'new'
9) Enter configurations
Free Space preceding = 0
Create as = Primary
New size = [don't touch]
File system = fat32
Free Space Following = 512 (or whatever you want)
10) Click add
11) Right click on the big gray bar (should say unallocated x.xx gb) and click 'new'
12) Enter configurations
Free Space preceding = 0
Create as = Primary
New size = [don't touch]
File system = ext2/3/4 (recommend ext4)
Free Space Following = 0 (or ~32 if you want swap)
Click add
13) Click edit, then 'Apply All Operations' to write changes to disk
14) Quit GParted
15) Unmount your SD Card
16) Reboot your phone
You could also use Amon-Ra custom recovery to do this by flashing it with unrEVOked.

It is very easy to follow the instructions posted above, I even linked a YouTube video for you and gave you a link on how to create the live cd. You should be fine, give it a go
You won't believe how easy it is... its just because you are unfamiliar with the OS platform.
If you are really struggling, then try this method but be careful as you will be connecting via USB to the PC and executing an automated script (batch file). While the batch file i running, do not disconnect the USB cable while in recovery mode:
1. Turn on your phone while holding the volume down button.
2. You will see HBOOT on the screen.
3. Use the volume buttons to move up and down and power button to select the RECOVERY option.
4. You will now see a red triangle on the screen, at this point plug your phone into your PC via your microUSB cable.
5. Wait for 10-15 seconds and then double click on recovery-windows.bat inside the pushfiles_windows.zip folder you unzipped as part of the root process. pushfiles_windows.zip
6. Using the optical trackpad select Partition sdcard > Partition SD
7. Select SWAP=0, EXT2=1024 and allow the rest to be FAT32.
8. Select the SD:ext2 to ext3 option in this menu.
9. Go back to the Recovery Console main menu and select Reboot system now. While rebooting, unplug the Desire from the USB port.
Windows Pushfiles attached below for you.
Thank you all! And MasDroid, thanks for the detailed instructions. I do have Ubuntu on my desktop. Tried formatting on a spare SD card using GParted and seems to be just the perfect thing. I'll do some more reading before flashing the phone. I do have some more doubts. Wanna make sure that I know what am doing.
@ wilbur-force
Dont know, a friend of mine gave my arcronis, think it was the full version. G-parted did not find my cardreader. And the 512mb whit rom manager was not enough space for me. Sorry for my bad english...

Are the following steps in order and correct (to flash LeeDroid ROM)?
a. Create Nandroid and Titanium backup of the phone.
b. Copy the contents of SD card to a folder onto the PC.
c. Format the SD card with FAT32 and ext3 partition (A2SD+)
d. Copy the LeeDrOiD_V2.3b_A2SD ZIP folder to the SD card (root)
e. Insert the SD card to the phone and boot into recovery
Doubt here: Do I need to 'Wipe Data / Factory Reset' again??
f. Install zip from SD Card.
g. Choose zip from SD Card.
h. Reboot System Now.
Are these steps correct?
Also, after flashing how do I restore the Nandroid/Titanium backup? Do I have to copy the contents (step b) back to the phone and boot into recover and "restore" using Clockwork MOD??
Thanks!
Yes correct order.
Wipe again? In your list I can't find the first factory reset, but yes you should wipe data/factory reset, cache and dalvik cache (under advanced) at that point.
After flashing you can restore your apps with titanium, restoring the nandroid (in recovery) will revert your phone back to the state it was of the nandroid so leedroid will be gone. Personally i don't use titanium so can't tell you how to do that, but i sync my apps with appbrain and reinstall them again after flashing.
I do know that is you want to use titanium the backup needs to be copied back to the sd card.

Do I have to do a factory reset from recovery at first?
Also after formatting the SD card with the FAT32 and ext3 partitions, do I copy back the previous contents of the SD card back to the phone along with the LeeDroid ROM?
Not before the nandroid if you meant that, wipe before flashing leedroid. So once you're in recovery to flash the rom, first wipe data/factory reset, cache and dalvik cache and then flash leedroid in the same session (without rebooting).
Best is to copy back the contend of the sd card, however if you want to start with a clean cart you can also just copy back the clockworkmod folder and the titanium folder.

Thanks again mate.
So here's another of my doubt -- say, I copy the LeeDroid ROM to the SD and boot into recovery to flash the ROM and do a factory reset, would this not delete the ROM also from the SD card? My first ROM flashing and hence these doubts :-o
Thanks for your patience.
Can I just copy back the Titanium backup folder after booting into LeeDroid ROM? :-o
Sd card won't be affected by a factory reset nor by flashing.
You can copy the titanium folder whenever you want.

You can use ROM Manager from the Android Market and there's an option to Partition SD Card under utilities, just install the recovery first and it will work fine.
Also you can use AM Recovery fake-flash to avoid installing ClockworkMod Recovery, but it's easier using ROM Manager
But if you are running Linux on any computer, then you can use GParted to Partition the SD Card, ask if you want steps to use GParted

Any chance we could have the GParted steps, I tried using it for creating the partitions (FAT32 then Ext2) and no matter what I did I got a Damaged SD error upon remounting it in the Desire.
I'm starting to think my card is bad!
Not in front of Linux right now, so this is off the top of my head. I'll post in the morning clear steps (better if used in card reader not using USB toggle on device)
Backup what ever is on your card first!
In the top right corner of GParted select your device and let it search for partitions on card
Unmount all partitions by right clicking on each partition and clicking unmount
Then delete those partitions by right clicking and selecting delete
(I normally apply those changes before proceeding by clicking the green tick, to make sure the partitions have cleared)
With the unpartitioned space, firstly create your FAT32 partition by right clicking and selecting FORMAT TO then FAT32 (MAKE SURE REMAINING SPACE IS IN FOLLOWING NOT PRECEEDING) then with the remaining space create your EXT2 partition exactly the same but obviously format to EXT2 and you could even add a small 32MB linux-swap partition but it's not necessary
Then apply the changes, if everything goes successfully and you are still getting remount errors, then try reflashing your ROM or a different ROM
(I'm assuming your rooted)
If you still have no luck, then your card is bad
I just found out that Clockwork can only handle ext3 partitions - at least my version (2.0.1.4). If I create partitions using ROM Manager, it creates a ext2-partition. Only after I changed it to ext3 using linux I could mount the partition in Clockwork and perform wipes and backups.
Don't know if or what I did wrong, but it certainly didn't work for me (tried with multiple versions of clockwork and several times).

Introductory Remarks:
- Ext Partition is only needed if your rom uses App2SD+ (Froyo app2sd works with basic Fat32 partition)
- Ext partitions are only visible in Linux = Windows can't see it.
- You can check if you have a working ext partition with Quick system info (in app market)
- On first reboot after partition, android will move some apps to the SD, this will take a lot of time. Some people have reported a bootloop on green HTC Screen, one reported a need to Battery pull 4 times before it finally worked), so be patient!!!!
Now the tutorials:
Easiest way is to install Rom Manager:
1) install rom manager
2) choose partition sd card
- 512mb ext
- 0 swap
3) let RM do the rest... ;-)
Another one is using Gparted:
(copied this from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Apps2SD)
For a great Linux GUI alternative, use Linux 'GParted' a GUI based partition editor. (Designed for and found standard in the GNOME desktop environment, but can also easily be install in other desktop managers such as KDE and others.) Backup your SD card before you start ! The following steps will wipe the contents !
You can use a livecd of GParted, or use it from within Ubuntu (vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVK-tJe8pXE&feature=related)
1) Connect your phone to your computer (or use an SD Card adapter...., in this case skip to 4))
2) Pull down the notification bar and mount the phone
This is what I've found so far, as the easiest method.
Another tutorial can be found under: http://androidcommunity.com/forums/f9/how-to-create-ext2-partition-14232/
or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=534714 this is one way to do it.
What I don't know for sure:
- If the size of the ext partition matters?
- What ROMs require ext partitions?
- If Class 6 SD cards really are that important (some webpages say that class 2 cards are not able to handle ext2 partitions and end up bricked.
- How to manage the contents in the ext partition when changing SD Cards...
- How to check if you bricked your sd card...
- etc...
Good Luck

Very nice guide. Thanks soo much for this explain.
Very cleary!
hi i am using GParted to partition ext3 for use with apps2d but i have tried several times without success
after booting up the phone, i see a blank sd card.. i.e. not mounted in my Desire..
wondering what i m doing wrong,, or is there another method to do it?
From the Clockwork Mod recovery, I cant partition the sd card too.. and have also tried without any success via the ROM Manager...
Warning! Noob question ahead:
Why wouldn't you just take the new SD card, insert it into the phone without partitioning it, and let the Desire handle the whole thing?
I'm completely new to all this (rooting, custom ROMs, A2SD etc.) but have managed to successfully root my HTC Desire (using unrevoked), install OpenDesire 2.3, and partition the SD card using ROM Manager. I rebooted and my installed apps are showing as being on the SD card in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications but with different names (e.g. instead of 'Titanium Backup' it's now 'com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup') and the icon is a default black Android/SD card rather than the app icon. When I go into the launcher my installed apps aren't there and they're not listed when I try to add a shortcut to the homescreen.
Have I done something wrong? Or is there an additional step I don't know about?
Ah, it looks like I did something in the wrong order - I'd already downloaded and installed Titanium, then moved it to the SD card under Froyo A2SD, then partitioned the SD card...
I reinstalled Titanium and everything's fine.
I am still interested in that:

Hi Guys,
I need some serious help. I have rooted the desire, flashed to leedroid 1.4c rom, but have been left with no SD Card and now I am trying to mount the sd card in the desire as it no longer recognises it...
i can have rom manager loaded but it can't see the sd card..
i dont have A2SD or partitions on the sd card, i can put the card in the laptop and write to it..problem is i am on a windows lappy so no linux..i know i can make a live cd but i'm not up to that..i dont think..
is there a guide i can have to get the sd card mounted on the desire running windows...i have got android sdk on the pc but i have nfi how to use that either...
all help appreciated...
XClemX Try this: (hopefully you've backed up your SD card to your PC!)
go to Settings, Sd & Phone storage,
click on format SC card.
That should get your card recognised.
Thanks Depaor,
The SD card isn't seen in that either...i'm attempting to make a gold card now to see if i can get it to work that way...fingers crossed...
is your card visible from card reader on pc, or from other phone?
If it is, just format it in FAT32 on your pc, and it will be fine... also, always check if phone is in "charge only" mode before disconnecting usb...
Will a non-rooted Android phone read a card formatted as ext3 or ext4? Just curious.
I am running Myn's rom and cannot figure out how to set up the a2sd correctly. Can anyone help me with this? Please!
Make sure your sd card is partitioned then download darktremor a2sd. I flash it after a clean install then go to the market download terminal emulator its free. Then type "su" then hit enter it should ask for superuser permission accept then type "a2sd cachepart" then it will do the rest and automatically reboot and your good

Please help me with this...so lost.
Rom: Myn's Warm 2.2 RLS4
Kernel: "2.6.32.15-netarchy-toastmod-4.9.1-cfs [email protected] #8"
I've tried this:
This is how I got my apps2sd to work.
1. BACK UP YOUR MEMORY CARD TO YOUR COMPUTER
2. Using AmonRa's recovery
3. Boot into recovery mode
4. Select Partition SD card
4. Set: 512 Ext: 1024
5. let it finish select SD:ext2 to ext3
6. go back to usb-ms toggle
7. Put all your stuff back on your memory card now
8. I went to Wipe data/factory reset then wipe cache, wipe Dalvik-cache and finally wipe SD:ext partition.
9. Then flash the rom and let it boot all the way up
10. Reboot into Recovery
11. I flashed kings bfs #9 and Baked #6 and both work (may work with stock kernal, but have not tryied it)
12. reboot
13. connect usb to phone and using adb type (IF ADB IS NOT WORKING FOR YOU USE THE INSTRUCTION BELOW IN RED)
Code:
adb shell
then
Code:
/system/bin/a2sd check
you should see some properties
scroll down and look to see if dalvik cache is run on sd card if not type
Code:
a2sd cachesd
the phone will reboot by itself
If phone is stuck in boot screen, kernal may not support apps2sd, try to install a other kernal.
once again using adb type
Code:
adb shell
then
Code:
/system/bin/a2sd check
make sure dalvik cache is now running on sdcard
also check to see if Zipalign is set to boot if not type
Code:
a2sd zipalign
And I've tried this:
1. Download the program from the previous post.
2. Determine if you have setup your sd card with an ext partition
if you have setup your sd card already (existing users of a2sd...any version):
A. Copy the program to your sd card.
b. Reboot into recovery
if you have not setup your sd card (for those new to a2sd):
A. backup your sd card to your computer. can't stress this enough, as partitioning will wipe the entire card.
B. Reboot into recovery
c. In android system recovery, select partition sdcard
d. In the partition sdcard menu, select partition sd
e. Follow the instructions on the phone to partition your sd card. You can optionally set a swap file while you are partitioning your sd card.
F. In the partition sdcard menu, select sd:ext2 to ext3. Follow the instructions on the screen.
G. only perform this step if you want ext4 and your rom supports it: in the partition sdcard menu, select sd:ext3 to ext4. Follow the instructions on the sdcard.
h. Press the back button on the phone to go back to the main menu.
I. Put the a2sd file on the sd card (and all your other files you backed up earlier) by selecting usb-ms toggle and transfer the files to your computer.
3. In recovery, select flash zip from sdcard.
4. In flash zip from sdcard, select the a2sd package file you downloaded earlier. Press home to flash.
5. Reboot phone.
And it still shows my apps are taking up internal storage. What the hell am I doing wrong? Please help me out with this, it's starting to drive me nuts. I can't have all my games on my phone, let alone market apps. Please and thankyou.

Correct - you are not partitioned. Do this from above:
1. BACK UP YOUR MEMORY CARD TO YOUR COMPUTER ( as in - copy/paste)
2. Using AmonRa's recovery
3. Boot into recovery mode
4. Select Partition SD card
4. Set: 512 Ext: 1024
5. let it finish select SD:ext2 to ext3
6. go back to usb-ms toggle
7. Put all your stuff back on your memory card now (you’ve essentially wiped your sd card so you have to put stuff back)

IIrc asec is where the froyo apps2sd hack stores its stuff. So ignore it, wrong byte order for fat32, -hack- but no readable data so the kernel can retrieve lost symlinks to apps - hack-

You might be on run that doesn't support a2sd. What rom are you using. I'm futuristicstyles by the way I have two accounts.

hi guys,
i'm having troubles to make an ext3 partition on my SD card. I've recently bought a desire which i successfully rooted. I also have flashed a custom rom (leedroid).
I would like to try other roms like MIUI and non-sense but i read these require an ext3.
Ive been searching for this for 2 days now without succes. Ive found many guides but they have all failed in a way...
NOT TO BE LAZY, like i said ive been strugling with this for 2 days.
But could anyone give me some guidelines on how to do this ?. There is just so much info out there that its very confusing.
Thx in advance guys !
You can try this using MiniTool Partition Wizard
You could also try you using an Ubuntu live cd of GParted by either burning it to a cd or boot it from a usb stick: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download.
Another method via Windows using Pushfiles:
1) Turn on your phone while holding the volume down button.
2) You will see HBOOT on the screen.
3) Use the volume buttons to move up and down and power button to select the RECOVERY option.
4) You will now see a red triangle on the screen, at this point plug your phone into your PC via your microUSB cable and wait for 10-15 seconds.
5) Unzip the file pushfiles_windows.zip that you downloaded earlier, and double click on recovery-windows.bat inside this unzipped folder.
6) Once you run it you will notice, the screen of your device change to a green recovery image menu.
7) In the recovery image, select the Partition SD card option, convert ext2 to ext3. Done!
Pushfiles attached below.
Thx for your reply.
I have installed "MiniTool Partition Wizard " and came to the conclusion that my SD card has an EXT3 partition :s. So some of the things i've tried must have worked...
But i got another question.
I have installed "Quick system information".
A2SD storage is total 458MB with 319MB free.
My internal storage is 148MB with 98,98MB free. (THIS WAS 138MB right after rom install)
System storage is total 250MB with 26,46MB free.
Memory is 416 with 124MB free, idle 34,28MB.
I thought that with a A2SD rom + an EXT3 partition everything would be placed on this ext3 partition on my sd card.
How does it come that my internal/system storage is decreasing?
I'm on leedroid v2.3b
thx in advance guys
That is because only your apps are moved to your SD card. Not the Data of the apps. If you want that, than you must install a data2sd rom.
An easy way to make an ext3 partition or transforming an ext2 to an ext3 partition is using amon ra recovery. You can find it in the android development. You install it using unrevoked (the same way that you rooted)
Ah so there is a difference between a data2sd rom and a app2sd rom?

The way A2SD works is that it moves the /data/app/ directory to the SD-EXT (moves app data to the SD card partition)... however, it doesn't move the data/data directory, as this remains on the internal storage.
The main difference between A2SD and Data2SD is that /data/data is moved to SD-EXT with Data2SD, and with A2SD, it remains in internal storage.
Hi,
i am interested in flashing the following ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861690&highlight=insertcoin
it requires me to have an EXT partition:
A2SD (and yes YOU MUST HAVE an EXT Partiton after the FAT32 one)
can i use ROM manager for this? i haven't used it before so if someone can outline the steps that'd be well appreciated. plus is there anything else i need to do? as you can tell i'm very new to this so i need all the help i can get
p.s: the reason i posted this here and not in the development forum is cos i don't have enough posts to make any comments in the development forum yet.
thanks a lot!
I can't post in the dev forums either. It's an annoying rule isn't it. The other annoying rule is that you can't post URLs either, so sorry I can't give you any links for the stuff below.
I used gParted livecd to partition my sd card.
Steps are:
-Download the iso
-Burn it to the CD (burn as a CD image, not as a regular file)
-Boot up your PC with the CD in
-Answer a few dumb questions about your preferred keyboard etc until the GParted screen comes up
-take the SD card out of your Phone and stick it in your PC
-wait a min or two for GParted to recognize it, then choose you SD card as the drive
-shrink the existing FAT partition to make room for the new ext partition
-create the new ext partition of whatever type your ROM recommends (ext2/3/4) and whatever size you want
-apply the changes
Most guides I've seen say to wipe your SD card first, but I got on just fine with shrinking the existing partition without wiping, then your data is preserved.
There are plenty of gParted tutorials with screenshots.
Just be sure to partition your SD card and not your PC hard drive
from one newbie to another, hope this helps
You can also try your recovery, some of them have partitioning tools built in. I have CWM Alpharev and in the advanced menu, there is an option for partitioning your card.
For the usual A2SD+ Roms out there, partitioning with Recovery works very well.
AmonRA 2.0.1 or ClockWorkMod Recovery should be suitable.

so i found the following instructions to partition via ClockworksMod Recovery:
A. backup your sd card to your computer. can't stress this enough, as partitioning will wipe the entire card.
I. Put the a2sd file on the sd card (and all your other files you backed up earlier) by selecting usb-ms toggle and transfer the files to your computer.
is the above correct?
furthermore:
1. when i do a backup, whats the backup file called so i can copy it to my pc?
2. i already have a rom with no partition installed. before i create a partition (steps above) should i do a full wipe (cache/partition) and then proceed to the above steps?
thanks!
The above sholud be correct.
1. Backups are located SDcard/Clockworkmod/backup/[date the backup was created]
2. No you, don't need to wipe anything, only if you want to flash a new ROM.
<OT> why would you want to post this in the ROM development forum? This has absolutely nothing to do with ROM development! So why are you complaining? Apparently this seems to be a useful rule... ^^

my questions were specific to the ROM on the development page. i figured if i could have asked it there, people would know exactly what i'm talking about.
and i don't think we said the rule was not useful, just a tad bit annoying : p

sorry if i'm being pedantic, but just to clarify (i do want to install a new ROM with a partition) the steps would be:
1. do a full wipe (cache/partition)
2. partition SD
3. install new ROM
does that sound right?
and thanks for previous reply.
you can use custom recovery ver3

*eagerly awaiting a reply*
You should make a nandroid backup as well as a copy of your SD card. Have you done this? If not, a quick search will give instructions on how to do it, to ensure you can return to where you are now if things don't go right with the new ROM for some reason...
Otherwise, yes. Your steps are correct! Good luck...

Hey guys,
I decided to root my HTC desire today but I got a problem. I used this tutorial: http://theunlockr.com/2010/09/20/how-to-root-the-htc-desire-unrevoked-method/
Then I tried to load up this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=988570
It said the installation was successful but I am unable to boot up the device now (stuck on the screen where it says 'HTC' in green).
Any help would be appreciated.
First of all try shutting it down and turn it on by holding down vol-down and pressing power while keeping vol-down pressed. This will make your phone enter fastboot. In this menu you use the volume keys and power to chose recovery.
From here you just flash another rom like leedroid(just for now).
And no it's in no way bricked. The reason the rom isn't booting is probably, because you need to make an ext-partition on your sd-card. you can do this from rommanager once you get it to boot again
Yes, I can see the clockwork mod menu.
Dont worry mate, it's not bricked, once you get the hang of it you will be changing ROM's daily =P.... just install another ROM and pay attention to the partitions each ROM require
Did you reformat SD card to have FAT32 + 1GB+ ext3/ext4 partition?
And no its not bricked.. you cannot brick anything just by flashing ROM's its not that easy.
You either flashed CM7 version (you need custom HBOOT and S-OFF for that) or you didnt partitioned SD card.
Just wipe everything and try again.
Look at my reply again edited it, as i didn't read all the way through at first.

Not correct the hboot is not required, and the only difference is a larger data-partition, which allows for more user installed apps You are right about the ext-partition though, as this is very likely the problem in this case.

Backup your data from SD Card. (it will be wiped)
Enter Recovery.
Go Advanced/Partition SD Card.
Choose 1024MB Ext partition size, and 0 for swap. (you dont need that)
Now wipe everything, from the phone (data/factory reset and cache wipe)
Go mounts & storage and mount USB.
Now you can restore your files from PC to SD Card and Flash ROM.
Enjoy.
And if you want RcMixS 2.0, download this: http://rom.robocik.mobi/Desire/RCMixS/v2.0/RCMixS_v2.0_A2SD+_BravoHboot.zip
Do not download CM7 Version. ;-)

I don't see the partition SD card option. The only options in the advanced menu are:
- Reboot Recovery
- Wipe Dalvik Cache
- Wipe Battery Stats
- Report Error
- Key Test
- Restart adbd
- Process dump
Damn you must have some old version, then partition your card just anywhere (im doing it on Ubuntu using gParted)
Just make sure to make 2 partitions:
Primary FAT32 - all available space (-1024MB)
Primary EXT3/4 - 1024MB
Remember Ext partition has to be second partition after FAT32.

Okay thanks a lot. Now I only need to find a way to partition an SD card on a mac.
Download rom manager to make your cwm recovery do it. (cwm does have the tools for it, they are just no present in the interface)
It only allows for 512mb ext though, but usually it's enough.
RCMixS 2.0 requires 1GB+.
