Remove System Application - Desire General

Hi I am trying to delete system applications throgh all methods I have seen here and in other forums:
using titanium backup.
deleting the apk.
deleting apk and folders.
But all without success
Has anyone done it, i would like to remove (carhome, initial tips, twitter, fm radio...). I have the CyanogenMod 6.1 for Desire.
Thanks in advance

If you are S-off you can use titanium or root explorer but you need to reboot to see the changes, if your s-on you need to remove them with adb while in recovery or remove the apk's from the zip before flashing. If you remove before flashing make sure signature verification is disabled.

Hi again guys!, I have done it!!
(Before trying this I already had my desire rooted and tryied some file explorer).
My problem was that when i deleted the files after reboot appeared again; now I know why /system is protected and the only way to delete or put files there is (as is said before) with S-OFF (which just deletes /system protection 4ever) or reboot the phone in recovery mode and then mount /system (mount menu) and then delete the apk which is the same that S-OFF but needs to reboot in recovery.
Hope this helps some one else.

The latest version of Titanium Backup will colour the system apps red, so you know what you're getting into.
Avoid apps that you can't see on the apps drawer and it should be fine.
You can delete these programs from system/app in the rom zip file before you flash it.

Before removing anything form Leedroid look at the wiki to see which apps can be removed safely. You can delete apps that are not on the list but if you run i to issues you know why.
do i do this on the phone or on my pc? any special software needed?
thanks in advance
Yes.
To delete the apps from the zip you need special software like winzip or winrar, high tech stuff.
Just go to he /system/app/ directory and remove what you don't want and know it's safe.
And for example, if you want to make your life harder use ADB via recovery.
There are other methods too, if you are not satisfied with the zip editing.

Ok cool. I had never opened rom's zip file before, didn't realise I could 'play ' with it like that
Will experiment later, after a back up!

I'm not sure if it's the best practice, but I always trim my zip files without actually unzipping them (right click unzip).
You actually have an alternative if you're already installed and suddenly feel to lazy to wipe your phone. Get titanium, then go to the list of apps, long press, then choose "force remove app".
Although I'm not sure if it will cause any conflicts with your ROM.
Safety first!
I've been using this tutorial for removing stock apps.. works perfectly..

Restore System App

Hi,
I stupidly deleted an system app 'Flash' to be precise while experimenting with Titanium Backup. Firstly I updated the default Flash to the new 10.1 then integrated it to the ROM then decided I wanted to undo this, but can't find and option to do this procedure.
Please can some one help me restore my HTC Desire default flash.
Just to note backup doesn't seem to restore anything.
Thanks.

If it was a .APK that you deleted, the easiest option is to us ADB push command to put it back on the phone.
You would need to source it first, but you should find it if you extract you ROM.ZIP file.
Could you kindly tell me, how I may do this?

Post exactly which ROM you are using and i'll remove it for you and post it up
hmm flash. If only we had a unified place where we could collect all such third party apps. It could have a search function, menus and maybe even paid apps. Then people in need of an app could just find it here and install it right away.
Ohh wait it's called the market.
If the app is gone, you should be able to install it from the market and afterwards you can move the .apk file to the system partition.

[Q] Titanium will not update or uninstall (fixed)

So for the past few weeks I have not been able to get titanium to update, I went to uninstall and it fails to uninstall. Anyone with any ideas? I know I could wipe but my last backup I was already having titanium problems, and it's not worth starting from scrach for one program. Maybe someone knows how to delete manually could help me out that way? I am using the donate ver. Thanks for whatever info you guys can lay on me.
Oddly, my Titanium has had a problem a few times, lately, where it won't do a back up or restore. You select one or the other, and it just switches to the list of apps.
I noticed that clearing data in Application Manager seems to fix the problem, but I hope the dev for this app figures out a fix soon.
Anyhow, you can remove it via Root Explorer, reboot, then reinstall it.
Uninstalling it will not remove your backups.
I was going to remove with rootexplore but what files do I need to delete and keep?

Don't forget trying to update busy box. That has solved a few titanium problems for me in the past.

It should be in /system/app/
or do a search for titanium and remove whatever comes up
Thanks for the help guys. I did try updating busybox, that didn't fix it.
I deleted files in the app folder, that didn't help. Then i used the search in root explorer deleted only files that were not on my SD card. Re-booted, installed titanium (install worked this time) went to market and was able to download and update. So all is good. Thanks again guys!

[Q] og incredible on 2.3.4(s-on)bloatware help

followed the tutorial for the unrevoked rooting method..(mad props to all involved)
okay so my question is, im on the stock rom(2.3.4) rooted with HBOOT.92 and obviously have root acces, i want to get rid of a bunch of bloatware, vcast, app sharing ect ect.
in the past i had a htc eris and used root explorer and deleted all the bloat from the system/app folder and seemed to work flawless. i tried that but they are still there, then used titanium pro to uninstall them but no go, then i created a filter name "bloat" and melted it. well now the app are uninstalled but still are in my apps screen. i then tried to use root explorer again and they are not to be found in the system/app folder, i have a backup so io am not worried.
any suggestions on how to get rid of these bloatware, or could you recommend a rom low on memory usage that is close to stock rom, or maybe some nice visualized roms that are not to big on the memory.
This might sound obvious but did you reboot after deleting the apps?

Get S-Off then try removing the apps again.
Hope this helps...
You dont need s-off to remove apps just root. Deleting the apks with root explorer should work.

according to the tut,""*at this point, you could just enjoy root access without doing anything else. if all you care about is using a couple of root only apps, and deleting some bloatware, you can remain rooted and s-on if youd like.""

I had this happen when 2.3 first came out, and I went to delete the apps and they'd just reappear on reboot. Installing busybox fixed my issue then.
Good luck!
well i think i may have figured it out, used this app System App remover, couldn't uninstall anything but disabled all the stuff i wanted to, then used root explorer to delete apk's in system/app.
installed busy box but didn't notice anything different.
Just flash a new rom. If you want something like stock or better I suggest any rom by Heyitslou, skyraider, or newtoroot sense 3.0 or lower.

you don't need to do any of that.
Using root explorer:
Delete the .apk files from BOTH system/app AND data/app.
Reboot into recovery.
wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
Reboot
Be patient as your phone rebuilds the cache and dalvik cache. Once you get to the unlock screen, wait another minute or two.
enjoy.
much love my friend

SMS apk/zip

so I accidentally installed a Verizon modded SMS zip to disable the screen coming on with each sms. It borked my messaging app completely and crashes every time. I got a different messaging app zip as well as an apk and neither of them work. The apk actually does not even complete installation. Does anyone have the stock SMS app for the AT&T note 2 in zip form? If not, other thoughts oh how to resolve? Thanks.

thanks mod. bump, anyone have any help?
If you have root explorer just extract sms apk from any att rom and push it to system app folder. After you place sms apk to system folder fix permission using twrp or cwm. Reason why it won't continue installing is you are trying to install a system app.

no root explorer. other options?
Get it
massive points to whoever has it and extracts the apk
Ya. Thats what the moderators will do! Give us infraction points haha.. massive
Thats against xda rules, and is frowned upon.
its against the rules to post stock apks? I wasn't aware, thanks for the heads up.
Root explorer isent stock
Think they were referring to the stock sms .apk.
Sent from the Millennium Falcon somewhere on the Kessel Run
I did end up finding a stock AT&T apk and root explorer but that method did not work (using root explorer to put the apk in system app then fixing permissions in twrp). Still crashes. what gives?
My bad.. misunderstood what u were asking
Just do a dirty flash using same rom you are on now that way you dont lose your data apps. Just wipe cache and dalvik when you flash same rom.
Sent from my SGH-I317M
ok, will give it a shot and report back. just running stock rooted as this is my "work note", my personal one on sprint is where the fun happens
edit: can't flash.. get a "error opening zip" when it tries to update the partition.
