When I go to people next to one of them there is a little 2 so I click on it and then at the message tab at the bottom also with a 2. I open it and it says 2 new voice mails. I click on one of them and the people and vvm applications both crash and force close. I have checked my vm manually by dialing my numer and gave no voice mails. I have tried everything from clearing cache to deleting the contact, wich did make it dissappear but onceb I put the contact back in the 2 voice mails came back with the same crash. Any one have any sugestions on how to get rid of these?

Do you use google voice?
There is a chance these indicators are from your carrier prior to initializing google voice VM as your primary VM.
If so, you should be able to briefly change your primary VM to your carrier, just enough too clear the VMs, then switch back to google voice VM.
No I dont use google voice. However awile back the stock vvm app somehow stoped functioning. Well in the process of trying to fix it with some instruction i found on google it got deleted.
I searched high and low for the stock incredible htc vvm with no luck, so the only vvm app i could find from a verizon phone was for the motorola droid x. i installed it and it works great but now i have the ghost vmails.. i have also tried installing the verizon visual vm which works also but still same problem.
If anyone can post the stock htc vvm.apk it would be much appreciated.

I uninstalled Google Talk (accidentally) via Titanium Backup. Obviously a decent screw up as it kills a lot of services without it.
I tried searching for a posted apk, but no luck. Tried extracting it from the roms used in toasts root method, but failed.
I'm an idiot. Flame away, but help, please.

You're not an idiot because you made a mistake...you're not an idiot period.
I removed it too and I just downloaded damage control, unzipped it, went through the folders, and grabbed gtalkservice.apk out of it, pushed it to my phone and voila...buttt I attached it for you anyhow...
Cheers, mate. I'll give it a shot now.
EDIT: ooo, I love you. If you're ever in Gainesville, FL, I'll buy you a beer. Just PM me! hah
This could be a stupid question but humor me please. What is google talk for??? I've set it up to not activate automaticly but it does anyways killing my battery. Is it needed?
It's a messaging app, like instant messenger type. I don't know if you can actually delete the apk without problems occurring. I wouldn't imagine it eats too much of your battery though.
GTalk as system service
I feel the same as the original poster.....like an idiot.
I deleted the GTalk application as I was not using it and was trying to free up more space. However, I started receiving the "com.google.process.gapps" error soon thereafter.
In looking through forums and the internet, it appears that is a very common error with many causes. However, having the android sdk, it was suggested to use adb to get a bugreport.
In looking at my bugreport, I saw a lot of references to calls to the GTalk service. It is an underlying system service and it appears used by other apps as well. For example, I noticed that my GMail was not syncing consistently and I found myself manually refreshing to get it to sync.
I also noted that almost without fail, when I installed new apps in the Marketplace, I would see the "com.google.process.gapps" error.
My recommendation: Keep GTalk on your phone!
i did the same thing.
What does it mean to push a file to your phone? I dragged into onto my sd card and it still is giving me errors in the marker and constantly syncing...
Help!
This may sound really dumb but how do i go about installing the apk file? it tells me that im not allowed to cuz Google talk isnt referenced in the android market
Google services on your phone rely heavily on GTalk, as you guys are seeing. Even if you don't use it you need to keep it if you want to use pretty much any google apps such as the market, gmail, etc.
To install just put the apk on your sdcard, navigate to it using your favorite file explorer and click on it. Your phone has an installer that will recognize the apk as such and ask you if you want to install it.
Because RavenII was kind enough to post the apk you guys should be able to do all of this right from your phones.
*edit- I don't think it will be a problem but if you are not rooted you might get hung up on the install... wait a second.. if you're not rooted then you wouldn't have been able to remove it in the first place haha
I uninstalled Gtalk and everything is still working fine on my Evo no problems here.

This is a true statement. I am running DC 3.5.
My bad, I was navigating to the wrong file. Up and working now.
Is google voice important? I uninstalled that and I am having issues getting voicemail but I dont think its because of google voice. I was messing with voicemail the last few days and now I cant get it to work.

GVoice is awesome, I use it and love it so I'm curious why you got rid of it but NO, it is not critical to anything on your phone, you can get along just fine without it.
If you were using gvioce and now you are not then you need to be sure you've done the following:
-Dial *38 and hit send. The call will drop and your gvoice line will be disassociated with your phone
-Under menu>settings>call_settings>voicemail_service make sure it is set to "my carrier"
-Under menu>settings>call_settings>voicemail_settings make sure your Voicemail number is set to your cellphone number
That should get you up and running.
I will offer this: I don't know what caused you to decide not to use gvoice but I had tons of problems with my Sprint voicemail service interfering with gvoice. I called Sprint and had them actually remove voicemail service from my account. GVoice has been flawless since then.
Looks like a spoke too soon. Sync keeps getting stuck at the google contacts part, gives me an error saying "sync is currently experiencing problems. it will be back shortly."
Anybody know what gtalk (or any other critial programs) has to do with this?

lol, I almost posted that you must have some special setp because you would be the first.. but I didn't want to sound like an a-hole..
I don't know specifically what it is in gtalk that maintains google services, it's probably the program they use to maintain the google accounts database..
Correct me if im wrong, but I thought there was a thread that confirmed that in froyo Gtalk isn't really necessary in order for all the other Gapps to run correctly. I know for sure I don't have Gtalk installed and everything is working fine in my Evo.

How do I forward calls to my google voice number? My carrier is google voice and my voice mail number is my google voice number. If you call my phone number it doesnt forward to google voice voice mail. However if you call my google voice mail number and leave me a voice mail I get a Gvoice message. So its working so why not stick with it. I originaly didnt want to use it because i had to sign in and I didnt want it wasting battery lol.
Edit; Never mind I think i was expecting the wrong number to forward lol its working. I guess this means I will have to give everyone my google voice number now. I was kinda hoping I could forward my number to my google voice number. Or can I after typing this edit I confused my self great lol.
Off-topic.
I got fed up and reflashed DC3.5.
About 3 weeks ago I flashed CM7 to my evo and received 3 voicemails while using it. Since then I have flash 3 to 4 other roms some AOSP and some sense, but those 3 vm notifications keep coming up and when I try to delete them there is nothing in the mailbox to delete. Does anyone know how to stop the vm from popping up
?
It really sucks to do but here anyways.

So glad I never used sprint voicemail not once; day I purchased my phone I switched to Google voice immediately.
You could also try completely removing sprint voicemail.apk with titanium backup and just use Google voice.

Thanks. It definitely sucks but ima give a try when i get home tonight.
Thanks for the tip, my wife installed the official OTA update last week and has had these VM notifications since...I'll try this when I get home today.
Im rooted and running rom Going-green lighting 10-12-11 and sometimes i will quit receiving texts from the people im talking to, even when im in the middle of a conversation with them ill quit receiveing texts. Ive updated PRL and PROFILE but nothing helps. Anyone know why its doing this and how to fix it?

Did you install the rom fresh? Make sure there are no network issues in your area.
I had the same issue. I've got a few questions first.
1. Are you using Google Voice?
2. If yes, is your Sprint number integrated with Google Voice?
3. What kernel are you using?
4. What baseband radio version are you using?
5. What hboot version are you using?

It's an issue with Google Voice. Not Gingerbread. There are a countless number of people, myself included, that have had this issue. SMS issues like this are only part of the problem as well. Some people don't receive calls. Some cant make calls. Some can't receive voicemail. Some receive other peoples' voicemail. I used to use Google Voice all the time. But this last iteration of it they really screwed everything up.

When you open the Google Voice app for the first time you have to go through a setup process. There are two ways to go through this process. One is to integrate your Sprint # with Google Voice (you automatically enter this mode when you press "next" on the first setup screen) and the other is to use just the voicemail portion without integration (this is accomplished by pressing "skip" on the first screen of the Google Voice setup screen.
I accidentally integrated my Sprint number with Google Voice when I setup the app. This was a HUGE mistake as I lost all ability to receive text messages on my phone due to Google's crappy development of sms handling of Google Voice. I spent the next 2 months scouring xda, the internet, Google forum support, Sprint forum support, Sprint tech support, and every possible resource you can think of for a solution. I found an endless number of people that were having the same, and in some case worse, problem than I. But I never found a single shred of helpful information. So I decided to just take my phone into Sprint and pray they say it's a hardware issue and give me a new phone. But my last ditch effort proved to completely fix my problem and I now receive text messages just like I used to before I installed Google Voice. So here is what worked for me.
Details: You are basically going to return your phone to bone stock as if you had just purchased the phone. So the process I explain is going to unroot and return you to stock ROM, turn S-on, and revert your Hboot back to stock. It is also going to remove your Google Voice account (trust me, this is a good thing) So please make sure you do a backup of all your data, app preferences, and apps if you wish, so that you do not lose anything.
1. Log into your Google Voice account online. (from a computer or your phone's browser)
2. In the top right of the page you will see a little icon that looks like a cog (a gear). Click that icon and select "Voice Settings."
3. Looking back at the main part of the page you'll see the details for your Google Voice/Sprint phone number. Click the "Disable" or "Deactivate" button to go through the deactivation process required to remove your Sprint number from Google Voice.
4. Go back to your phone and FULLY logout of the Google Voice app. Once you've logged out uninstall the app.
5. Go to this link and follow the rest of the step by step instructions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18399552&postcount=2
6. If your phone STILL does not receive SMS messages then you're at least already unrooted and can just stop by a Sprint store and have them see if it is a hardware issue. For me, unrooting somehow fixed my issue.
Once you complete those steps, if your messaging is working properly again, you can then reroot your phone and go on about your business as usual. The whole process of unrooting and rerooting my phone to fix the problem took an entire 15-20 minutes to do. Most of that time was spent verifying that things were working properly. Unfortunately I cannot tell you what exactly what the problem was. All I know is that when I unrooted to stock my phone suddenly worked again. So I decided to give Sprint the finger, reroot my phone, and get flash happy like always. I suggest NOT using Google Voice at all. At least not until they fix all of their horrendous issues with GV's sms messaging ability.
Anyone know of a compatible Visual Voicemail app for the HOX on AT&T?
You can try Hullomail, see if that works?
google voice. if you use light, it's free. set up voicemail redirect from within google voice itself. others have reported problems trying to set it up otherwise.
Sucks they didn't include that with the HOX. I got mine from the HTC vivid thread here on xda, it's an older version but works and its the stock visual voicemail at&t app that shipped on the vivid. At&t is trying to push the at&t messages app that throws everything in one place, calls, texts, voicemail etc.
If you would like that it's simply called AT&T messages on the google play store.
If you just want the voicemail hit up the HTC vivid thread here and grab it. It's not listed in the market for the one x so don't expect any updates. Make sure WiFi is off when you set it up I ran into this problem. Once it's set up you can resume WiFi here is the link for visual voicemail http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1452330

AT&T charges for visual voicemail on some accounts. Also, I forgot to mention that I don't know if vv in Google Voice works with LTE. Maybe someone could provide that info for others. I'm on a stock int'l One X with AT&T prepaid, so I have no LTE possibility.
Its interesting because when I search for the AT&T visual voicemail app on the market with my ATT One X nothing comes up. So I side loaded the one from the vivid, shortly after I set it up I get a notice saying there is an update for the App that was released May 4th, so when I press update it takes me to the market page and in the description it said it added support for the One X. Its just weird that I couldn't download it straight from the market and had to do it like this. I had to uninstall the old one first because I was getting an error saying the package wasn't signed.

Actually mines not working...does it normally take a half hour for it to update that you have a new message?

I've noticed even when I had the vivid if your on WiFi the notifications are late. For some odd reason as with many AT&T branded apps they seem to fail on WiFi , I tried to update my visual voicemail also and got the item not found page... Boo AT&T lol

Grabbed the .apk file but having a helluva time installing it on my HOX. Called ATT and asked them to add visual voicemail to my account and they kept telling me to use ATT messaging. Love Visual Voicemail but keep getting an error message - any suggestions from folks that got theirs up and running?
p.s. It was working fine when I first powered my phone up and added it but decided to give the ATT messaging but decided to go back to Visual Voicemail. Uninstalled ATT messaging completely as well as reinstalled Visual Voicemail - no luck
If you installed And set up AT&T messages I think you have to call customer service to have them turn that crap off, uninstalling isint enough. That happened to my wife on her galaxy note.
I just installed the apk for visual voicemail I got from the vivid forum and set it up with WiFi off.

How can I get this app working again? I've tried two versions, one just plain apk and another I installed through CWM but it's not "connecting" to my voicemail - meaning if you leave a voicemail on my phone it won't show up in the app.
