clear the market cache - usually works.
(MENU>SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>MANAGE APPLICATIONS>Market - then choose clear cache)
if that doesnt work find an app you know you have downloaded and 'install' it again.
its a fairly common problem and its nothing you have done wrong

Downloading from android market question (easily the weirdest problem you'll see)

Hi XDA, long time lurker, first time poster.
So I rooted my droid incredible yesterday evening. Everything was dandy- I installed CM7. However, this afternoon i stopped being able to use the market application - it would require a force close - both the market app and downloader. I decided to wipe everything, reinstall, and re root and do it again. I installed CM7 again, market wouldn't work. I then did a full wipe, factory reset, cache reset, davlik reset, and installed the newest nightly build of CM7. Still couldn't download from app marketplace.
I now just installed SkyRaider 4.0. I still can't download from the google marketplace on my phone. I can, however, install from the amazon app store, and when I use google's web install interface I can install the google marketplace apps from there (this also works for appbrain).
--I can use the google marketplace and appbrain marketplace on my computer, just not on my phone --
Clearly, the default android marketplace app doesn't work on my phone (and consequently appbrain as it goes through that).
How can I fix this?
Thanks,
Brian
Any other apps not working?

Everything else works fine.
Have you tried fixing permissions?

Reboot into Clockwork recovery, there is a fix permissions options. If I remember right it is in the advanced section. Run it. It will not hurt anything it will just run script that will run through the files and fix the permission settings on them.
Fixing permissions didn't eliminate the problem.
Did you download the Google apps zip with cm and flash it too? You never mentioned that part. Might be the problem

Me thinks this is your problem
Id like to thank everyone that helped me root, rom, & nand.
OMFGB, Slayher#27, CWM 3.0.0.8
applications/all applications/market/clear cache - this should fix your problem
did the post above fix your problems

Er...what is this?

I get these things almost every night, lead to websites that don't exist (or may be blocked by ad-away). Any ideas?
EDIT: This will still happen even if I've just wiped and have no apps other than stock ones installed
Wow roms do adds now

You have an app that is giving you ads.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
it's not the rom that's doing it, it's an app that's been downloaded/installed. whatever was the last app you downloaded from market before those ads started showing up is the culprit. by uninstalling the app(and possibly rebooting your phone) the ads will go away.
however, if it's an app you insist on having, you can download an app like 'Ad Blocker' that will allow that particular app to continue running on your phone while blocking whatever "ads" come with it.
See my edit. I have ad-away installed, it does the same thing as ad blocker
Get rid of one app at a time if you don't remember your last app downloaded

Remember after you update the add away list you have to reboot your phone for it to work properly

It happens after wiping the phone as well, before restoring any apps

I know. Ad-away doesn't block the notification, just the website it tries to bring up if I click it

Not in that screenshot, but yes after a full wipe with no apps installed/restored it does it too
when you wipe the phone, you do the standard 'factory reset' as well as format /system before you install a new rom right?
it could be something that was installed to /sdcard that's causing it as performing the 2 options above would not work in this case.
Are you running a custom rom

Yes right now I'm running AOKP, but it started even before I rooted it.
hmm... i'd say if you're willing to, format /sdcard
considering that /system is getting completely wiped it's obviously not there. has to somehow be something that made it's way onto the sdcard.

If you wipe data and flash a rom from this forum and reboot there is zero likelihood of that. Uncheck settings > backup and restore > restore blah blah.
If that isn't working you break your phone number

I would call myself an experienced ROM flasher, I literally do not understand what's causing this. I'm not restoring automatically when I set up again after wiping, I don't think something can just autorun itself from the SD card. I'm thinking it might be some sort of verizon spam, similar to the "Ozmail" thing maybe?
there is another thread here that's similiar.
if it is 'airpush' related, i'd probably try out Airpush Detector or Addons Detector

Google Play problem

Every time I try to download a game it gives me an error with code "498" I tried looking it up on Google but didn't find anything useful. It seems that it gives that error only when I try to download apps/games which have larger size than ~15-20MB. Any help with that problem?

You have tried to clear cache and delete data? Long press the play store icon or go to settings apps. Or you can try to clear cache and delete dalvik cache in cwm. If that doesn't work you can reflash your rom without wipe/factory reset and if that also doesn't works you can do a wipe/factory reset and clear cache and dalvik cache...works for me. Btw do you use an app2sd script?

I have used different ROMs and it still is like that. I don't use any app2sd scripts. Clearing data did not work.
Maybe it helps if you delete some apps, I think the storage is the problem. There may be enough free space for an app, but sometimes Google Play says there's not enough space free on your phone, I don't know why.
Good luck!
Download marketfix (felipe aron made it) in google play. It works for me!

install link2sd and your space problems (if it's an space problem) will end
Sorry for my bad englisch
I do not work this way. Cache partition is too small, so it does not update the 1-2 months after the larger applications. Is there a solution? 498 error code, or "package file is invalid" error message is.
To increase the size of the cache partition somehow?
(use google translator).
I got the "package file is invalid" error only if I had space problem but that other did not say anything for me

You mean the install button on the google play store app page??
May I suggest that you try to go to settings > apps > ALL (TAB) and select Google Play Store. Once there, hit CLEAR DATA and CLEAR CACHE. Then go back and open google play. Most likely, it will/may ask you to login again and/ or accept the user agreement again. Just accept and see if you can install anything.
If this does not work, boot into recovery. Clear cache and fix permissions... Maybe this will help.
Good luck.
Not on google play. On this (look my screenshot)

Ok then, do the second thing i suggested. Boot into recovery, clear cache, fix permissions. While you are at it, wipe dalvik cache under advanced menu. See if that works.

Are you install some kind app which overlap the screen. Something like sidebar, or rounded corner?
I ever install those app once and it's blocked my touch area.
Can you install apps when you use your phone in landscape mode ( screen rotated)?

I cant even factory reset because I have no access to the settings app! I used a file explorer and checked to see that the apks are present in system/app and they were. Please help me!!! :crying:
