Did you have the card in the phone before?
Many of the HD roms install part of the rom on the sd card, that is why you cant simply swop sd cards ... you have to reflash.
Sorry if im not quite understanding the problem properly ...
sorry for my poor english
normal i have a 4GB in the phone but my gift for christmas was a micro SD hc 8GB.
but if i lunch or reflash a rom with it, i stay on the HTC Screen because it search the right partition, if a put the old micro SD it's ok.
i use Gparted to make a FAT and a EXT3 but the phone have the same trouble.
thanks for help me
Ok sounds like there might be some inconsistencies with the previous partition that you made.
I'm not sure if this will work but its worth a try:
1. Reformat the SD card
2. Then make the partitions again, so the 6.4 gb fat partition first and then the 1 gb partition after that
3. Copy the Rom you wish to flash onto ur 8gb SD card
4. Insert it into your phone, enter hboot/recovery perform complete wipe and then perform the flashing procedure again.
I hope this works, good luck ... let know what happens

Tons of new ROMs coming out now based on OTA and adding A2SD+. But one big issue. Quite a number of people have reported problems with corruption of their SD cards when setting the Desire into Disk mode and connecting it to a PC. I've read it the first time here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7463184&postcount=348
and I can confirm it is reproducible.
Regardless if connecting to Windows or Linux, the card gets corrupted. It does not matter if you properly eject the drive. The Desire will respond saying the SD card is Read Only, and the only thing that one can do is to repartition it to fix the card.
I don't know what A2SD+ application everyone uses in their ROMs but I expect it's all based on some common version like the one put in from ieftm. As this is a serious issue it would be great if all you ROM cooks could look into it and try to fix it. Alternatively it may be a good idea to produce non-deodexed versions that save a significant amount of memory when installed normally without A2SD+.
Thanks for considering
I have this problem aswell its a bit of a nightmare there are a few files on my sd card that I can't even delete using andexplorer or my pc. I think the only way would be to remove my card and format it. I have never had this problem before only when I started using the 2.2 rom.
Noticed it before, i took the SD card out and put it into a cardreader, couldnt do anything in windows, said it was read only. Access via USB cable worked though.
Not that much of a issue for me, I mainly transfer files via Wi-Fi anyway, but I guess thats the explanation for the read-only behaviour.
Happened to me today, however I restarted the phone and everything seems okay now... :/
edit: nope, connected the phone again, chose "charge only" and then disconnected. The notification about my card being corrupted occured again, tapped on it and it went away... Dont know what to think..
I have the same problem .. And now it seems like the SD card is totally corrupted. Its not even possible to do a format
Okay thats it... Doing the titanium backup, nand backup and flashing some rom w/o A2SD+... :/
Out of curiosity guys, did the corruption of the SD card occur to the stock SD card that came with the Desire? I had the same problem with the stock card..
It seemed to unmount 3 or 3 times over a week and the next thing I knew it totally died and could not even be reformatted.. Happened on stock 2.1 that came with my Desire.. after I swapped to me own class 6 8gb Transcend I never had the proble again.. Just gonna upgrade to 2.2 now.. *fingers crossed*
Oh and yes.. I use A2SD+ on Modaco's 3.1. But that was after that card got corrupted..
I'm using card that came with the phone.
I'm going to try another Froyo Rom, just OTA rom rooted and we'll see.
Edit: I made my ext3 partition with ROM manager, if it makes any difference...
God dammit!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747480
Yes its the card that came with the phone .. but it happen after i created the 512MB EXT3 Partition ... and I'm running this ROM : http://ip208-100-42-21.static.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775&highlight=official it doesnt even use A2SD+
I dual boot my pc with windows 7 & ubuntu.... windows 7 scan and fix has repaired mine numerous times
I have class6 A-DATA 8GB and no problem. But with my last G1 i haved same card and with swapping goes to hell... I now correctly unmounting and disconnecting mobile from PC, after i save from PC to card. Flash have problems with writing.
This looks like a serious problem - it happened to me twice already. Devs, please have a look at this!
I have also had similar experience, SD card corrupt, yes it was the original card that came with the phone, EXT2 partitioned and using APSD+
Now why this happend is a mystery, but something I noticed when I tried the SD card in the PC - it was recognized, but said it must be formated, so I tried but it only saw it as a 32mb capacity!!! (it still would not format though - failed format..and since is no longer reconized at all..)
But, this made me think it "MAY" be something to do with the fact that when I did the Ext2 partition I seem to remember it also created a 32mb swap partition, or using Ext2 instead of Ext3. I have since learnt that it is advisable NOT to created a swap partition, so with my new SD card, after more reading about Ext partitions etc, I have only created only the Ext3 partion as I understand this is better than Ext2 and is less prone to corruption, and no swap partition and have had no problem since!
See this excellent post :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7458565&postcount=8
It would be interesting to have some input from one or two of the developers with knowledge in this field to get an idea why this happens, and how it can be prevented.
It is also possible the the SD card was going to become corrupt anyway... with or without the help of Ext? / APSD+ - it does happen!

my sd was corrupt using a 512MB ext3 partition without swap partition in SD card :/
Try in windows: start > run > chkdsk x: /f
where x = desire drive letter.
I believe i did this in recovery mode > mount usb.
That's what happens when you don't want to use Froyos own A2SD implementetion because "widgetz doesnt workzz on dat."
Apps are not meant to be on an external EXT partition.
Wait until ROMs like CM have built in A2SD+, these hacky shell scripts can cause serious problems for the SD card.

Windows can not access EXTx partitions. As such is unfortunately not possible that it could possibly repair a broken SD-ext partition A2SD+ uses.

I can confirm the corruption without any APSD+ ROM
I had a Stock Orange FR 2.1 ROM, and the 4Gb card that came with the phone get corrupted definitively (recognized as a 32mb capacity too, it has something to do with the Cylinder-head-sector combination).
Anyway, I'm going to try APSD+ with a class 2 PNY 16Gb, and tell you then if I get a corrupted card.
FYI, the Sandisk warranty is applicable for the original card: replaced in 5 days
I got some problems too with corruped files on my SDcard and had to format it. I'm thinking that from now i'll only mount my card to pc in recoverymode... maybe that is safe to do?
I have a rooted Desire running NeoPhyTe Mod v1.8 Sense-FroYo 2.2. The phone will boot with my 8GB memory card which I have been using since day one, but it won't boot with my new 32GB card which I have tested using h2testw. I also have A2SD on the go if that makes any difference, but I was hoping to partition the 32gb one and use that in it's place.
Any help would be appreciated because I am at a complete loss. Thanks

Its cuz it dosent have an ext partition on your new sd card, use the gparted live cd to create one on your new card or do a hard reset, and boot your device up the first time with no sd card in.
same prob
looks like I am having the exact same prob, just looked @ the reply to your ?.
Prob for me is running a MAC and not Linux and the suggest of booting from the phone then inserting the SD card is not an option cause the battery is in the way
Amy other suggestions any one?
hmm but how can I partition the card if I cannot boot the phone when it is inserted? I can get it to boot into Clockwork Mod but I don't know if/how I can partition using that.
Bought a new 8GB Kingston class 4 sdcard, put it into the phone, partitioned, reflashed the Rom, rebooted... voila! Phone says there's no sdcard. In recovery it's all right, but after booting the rom there's no sdcard, and under Settings->Memory it just asks me to insert sdcard. Help pls, anyone.
BTW, device is PVT1 AMOLED running BCM RC4.1U2, and it was just fine with my previous card (4GB Sandisk).

Did you do correct partitioning? FAT32 needs to be the first partition and ext4 the second. I had similar problems once, and it was because of that. If that's all done correct, try if you can read it in a card reader.

Mate, it's not the first sdcard in my life FAT32 first, ext4 second. Repartitioned about ten times, tried fat32+ext4 and fat32 only. No go. The card can be read through recovery (usb storage) and with card reader. Also, it perfectly works on Nokia phone (6300 if i remember correctly).
Could my problem be Rom related?

Sorry bout that, it's getting a bit difficult with all the noobs around. I'd see if it persists on other ROMs, sounds like a problem there.
I got HTC Wildfire and i just installed RemPuzzle 2.83(which is great btw but that's not the point here)
and my CWM recovery is v2 or i don't remember.
i had v5 in my sd card.
i booted on my recovery(old version) and then i selected to install v5.
from v5 i selected to partition the sd card(options 4GB memory and swap 0) :silly:
it completed the task and after that the sd card is uselless.
the phone can't read the sd and my computer(windows) suggests to format the sd card but it cannot complete the task.
my question is
can i get the sd card working again or it's going to the trash can?
i don't care about the data inside, before anything was done i ha backup done to my pc.

Use clockworkmod v 5 to format the SD card or just re-partition again with a swap size
my phone can't recognise the sd card.not even in recovery.when i selected wipe sd card it says "skipped sd card - complete"
as an effect i also can't partition again the sd card from my mobile.
Try to format your sd card via cmd (windows).
Just a thought.

Using an sdcard reader use the windows program called easeus partition master. If that doesn't work your only hope may be a Linux terminal. But make sure you use a different card reader as to rule out the phone as an issue.
Hiya mate, have a try with Heavy_Metal_Man suggestion with a partition manager, a good one I use is Mini Partition Manager, it has detected the 3 cards I have broke before :silly:
mount it to pc,
completely remove all partitions
and create 1 new partition across entire card,
reboot in to recovery when it tells you its created the partition.
and try it again
Hope this helps, if it did click " Thanks " on the posts you think helped!
ok guys.
thank you for your help.
i solved it...
i used MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition (with card reader) and saw the sd card and recreated all the needing staff so the sd card could be usable again.
what i did with CWM recovery is that i didn't replace totally the stock CWM,i just run the v5 something like virtually.and that created the problem.
thank you guys for your response!
cheers.
As title says , im unable to create the EXT4 partition on my SD Card. I have 2 SD Cards one 8GB class 2 , and other one 32GB class 10. Normally i use my 8GB class 2 card but I wanted to change it to the bigger one because the 8GB is not enough for me . I've 7GB Fat32 and 1GB EXT4 on it working perfectly , i partitioned it in the 4EXT recovery. Although , I wanted to change it with my other 32GB card. Everything seems to be perfect, i supposed to create the 1GB EXT4 again but... after partitioning i go to "info" it doesnt show me the EXT4 partition unfortunately ...just saying that my ext is not formatted , but i cant format it because i didnt create it on my 8GB SD Card it shows that i have the ext4 partition, but on the 32GB it doesnt... and the problem is i cant boot up any ROM with it could anyone help me with this? I really want to use the 32GB card but i cant for now

Hey Chromium Yeah so, I tried to partition the SD Card with Gparted but unfortunately , when I booted it up , I cant see my SD Card info.. Only the PC Partitions. Could the problem be that , my phone is in 4ext recovery?? I did turn on the Disk Drive from recoery but Gparted still cant see it. I tried several times "Search for devices" in Gparted but didnt help. Any idea bro? I never did it with the Gparted , i always partitioned my SD card by recovieres or Minitool Partition so im not used to it

Yeah, might be the PC's fault. Try another one.
The fault was the laptop I tried on my other PC and it worked (I could see the partitions )i succesfully formated it by Gparted , but in phones recovery in the "Info" option the SD-EXT is still not formatted .. 30gb is fat32 , 1gb sd-ext and 30mb swap (I don't need it , but I really want to use this SD card so I just did everything like in the guide even if I wouldn't need it). I dont know If the problem is the SD card itself or..

Try without swap, you don't need it. It should be removed from the guide
Both partitions primary, FAT32 first (on the left) and the ext4 second (on the right)
What ROM are you trying it with? Have you checked whether apps are actually installing to the partition with something like DiskUsage?

- Have you tried partitioning the card completely from scratch again, max 2GB ext4, no swap?
- Does 4EXT recovery see and check that the partitions are aligned?
- Tried installing a different ROM which requires an sd-ext partition just to try something else and get it booting?
If you've tried all the steps, could be a bad card though unlikely in my experience.
