need a few questions need answering - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

lately i have seen the following phrases "gingerbread and dhd" as i'm using leedroid 2.3b i feel i'm missing out on something great but i just don't know what those mean when attached to a rom. so if some kind person could clear these up for me i would be gratful.thanks.......................sudeki300

Gingerbread means it's a Gingerbread rom.
DHD means it's a rom with the 'new' sense but Froyo.
Try both out and see if you like it, just make sure you read the first (two) post carefully, should have all the info you need.
Also Nandroid before changing!

Ginger bread is nxt upcoming android version.. its android 2. 3.. currently 2. 3(gingerbread)is only available for nexus s... but our great mods are workin hard to port it to desire.. gingerbread is ported to desire to great extent by our mods.. refining of the version is goin on.. thnx to the modders..
Dhd is htc 'desire hd phone'(nxt version of htc desire).. u can install rom of desire hd... but first read all the pros n cons of installing hd rom on ur desire in the development section... hope this clears ur doubts.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk

thanks for the replies and clearing those questions up for me. looks like i might give both of those roms a go, just make sure i make a backup of my current one first......................sudeki300

[Q] Desire Roms ?

Hi,
i just got a Desire ,and im gonna root it put on a new rom...but i see in this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=809328 ,that there are a whole lot of roms and was wondering what is the diff between them? I mean to go through all the faq of those roms would take all day,so plz help ? so basically im looking for a ROM suggestion (and an explanation for it)
There are few differences between each other in each section. Things like some have A2SD, some have DATA2SD and so on. Some are faster, some are smoother. To be honest, if you know what you want then just try each rom from that section. A rom is a personal preference. If you go for Non-Sense/Gingerbread, try Oxygen or CyanogenMod. Sense roms, I see a lot of people going for LeeDroid. Sense HD, I tried Cool-z. Try them out.
ohhh my godddddddddd.. another one eh.. and now not only you are asking for our opinion to base yours upon, but also telling us that you'd rather waste our time to save yours.. by the way, there is a forum search button, do lean to use it. Much apprechiated.
Feel free to troll away
Ive just got a HTC Desire GSM (from HTC Magic) and tried a number of Desire ROMS, incl Gingerbread, CM nightly, Oxygen, DHD ROMS. I was never a big HTC SENSE Fan, but I loaded this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=818392 and so far stuck with it. I generally change ROMS ever 2 - 3 days, but this one has stuck. Its not lighting quick, but fully featured and very polished.
disclaimer - Its my opinion only and as other will tell you, flashing ROM is a personal choice. - cheers P
Tnx jelly and pp think ill try a rom per catagery

MIUI isnt that fast these days..
Try SGBS rom (v1.7) have sense and is very fast and stable.

Better wait for the official 2.3. I am using Cyanogenmod 7.0.3 Stable, but there is issue with call delay and mobile data connection problem. Now I am waiting for 2.3 official
I am running Insertcoin from around last 2 months and frankly speaking i never had any issues with the ROM. U can give it a try. U can get the rom from my signature.
Note: I never use HD recording or Playback on mobile, so i have never tested these functionality.
Yes, InsertCoin stable 1.0.8 seems to be bug free.
I used it also since about 2 months.
RCMix S v. 2.0.1 snm.
Try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113070&highlight=Recent+Apps easy to install.
For me AcesMod007 v24
Tried all roms but this one stands to be most stable and fast...
Leedroid is good too but battery hog.
Insertcoin is not bad but slow compared to acemod007.

From my personal experience I can highly recommend oxygen. It's a very clean and stable rom and I get a great battery life. Before using oxygen I tried leedroid, rcmix s, miui and redux. They are all nice and fast, but I really like the cleanness of oxygen and redux. I would have stayed with redux, but the developer did not have any time for further development for nearly two months, so I changed to oxygen. But I cannot see a big difference between redux and oxygen.
Ive tried loads, but an issue that kept recurring was depletion of internal memory. Therefore for the desire in my opinion the best roms are ones that allow data2ext or data2we which tricks your phone into thinking it has the internal memory limit you choose. I like gingerburst, a sense Rom since the whole thing is easy to set up and is stable. Just Google it and follow the instructions on the site
Cyanogen 7.0.3 works with the data2we. zip. If you don't like HTC sense, and is my close second Fave Rom

Rcmix 2.0, the cm7 variant
I'm running Leedroid 3.0.8.2 a2sd+ and loving it. No bugs found yet...

that is a good place to start - although some of the links are incorrect and I think some are in the wrong categories which is a shame

I love sense and I will go back to it at some point, waiting on Droidzone to update his gingerburst RoM. But at the moment am using MIUI data2ext and its bloody great, love everything about it, at first it looks abit iphoney but you can download alot of themes and change the look.
So try MIUI
No Sense no HTC. If you want no sense buy SG2
And BTW LeeDroid rox
Cool AceS Mix v2,very fast
but no chinese touch input
Beso your hardcore mate, if i can get a sgs2 for £150 of ebay i would mate, but to be honest i hate samsung stuff so it'd be an opx2 for me mate
actually i have tried the 2 hd senses, they feel very laggy to me, is the normal senses a bit faster, i might give them a go, just to spice things up, but even tho i hate apple stuff, i love the miui rom, so classy, i might find a sense rom for backup for when i have an urge for it
The only thing why I would consider miui is auto brightness which works fcuking awesome with it. Otherwise, I'm sticking to my Sense integration wrapped in my LauncherPro theme
im downloading leedroid 3.0.8.2, not the hd one, i'll give it a try, what would you say is the best sense rom? non hd? iv come from having a wildfire, blade and pulse, one thing i will say is that the dev community for the desire is amazing, so many devs, roms, kernels, the works, we are very lucky to be spoilt and have so much to choose from.

Moving to Q&A
the first rom i installed was gingervillain 2.0
ive tried several roms, coming and going between them, they all had advantages/disadvantages. but i always keep ending up installing gingervillain. its does everything i need, its quick, it's sense-less (personally dont like it) and as yet, i dont think ive encountered a bug with it.
now running gingervillain 2.7
Redux 1.2, awesomely fast! original android 2.3 without sense or any other big additions. Clean and stable! no bugs so far!

All sense ROMs are a little bit laggy as they kinda bog down the OS.. if you want a very fast and stable ROM, try an aosp ROM like CyanogenMod7.. its awesome! I've heard Oxygen is also very good, its what I'll be trying next

HTC Desire roms

I have rooted my htc desire. i am using the rom version:r2 zm4.1 ftl by redux 2. The rom in the main is brilliant. However, there is a bug and i dont know where to report it to. The bug is, when i have made or received a call and it may be a long call. The screen stays blank so i cannot disconnect my call. I have to take the battery out. And on occasion the phone screen does not activate when i press the power button. Sorry if this is not the right area to report a bug. I could not find a link on the developers website. Does anyone recommend any other roms to try.
Should just post this in the desire Q&A or general i think, would have gotten a better response but as a two year desire user i can give you a handful
Sandvold ICS beta- For a very long time my daily driver, has a few problems still i believe but it is amazing to see old hardware with android 4.0 running almost very smoothly on it, i like the a2sd set up on there also, it is very light also runs on cm7r2 hboot (i advise you get it adds extra internal space for app storage)
Cyanogenmod 7.2RC3- this is so close to a stable release cyanogenmod is probably my all time most favorite rom and is probably the fastest and works best with cm7r2 hboot
sebastiaan15's Runnymede AIO v6.0.4.3 Great sense based rom its very smooth and no bugs that i have found, i wasnt a fan of sense but these are my favorite three roms
Miui xj. Ever since I have that, I lost the wish to upgrade my desire...
You are right!
the cyanogenmod is (in my part) the best rom out there i used it for my htc wildfire and it worked fine! now i am using the koolsense rom because i wanted the htc sense theme back, because it will be removed it mostly all roms!
Still I use ROM for Desire from NeoPhyte. Everything works very well and without mistakes.

I have mildwild 4.1.9 and must say I am seriously impressed. I too downloaded MIUI but never got round to it after loving this one so much! I too no longer feel the need to upgrade handset, it feels like a new phone already!
Other roms I had shortlisted were runyrom, and leedroid.

[Q] root, upgrade or other

Hi there
I am new to this forum but have been told this is the forum to go to for continuing development on the htc desire.
I bought an unlocked htc desire from ebay but as there are no updates was wondering what would be my best options for improving performance and enhancement of the phone.
I would like to know wether i should root the phone.
Upgrade to 2.3
or just leave it.
I would like to extend battery life and update the rom to like jellybean or other.
please advise me
My advice would be start off with a good gingerbread Rom (android 2.x), as its a mature format you can be pretty sure the phone will be stable, and all features will work. I like both the RSK team's Rom and mildwild's cm7 one, but there are many I've not tried.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
You should definitely root, and s-off it to get the best out of it. For this, check the "All Things Root" guide in my sig.
As frosty said, you should start with a stable GB rom, whether it's Sense or not.
If you only want to upgrade the Desire to the official 2.3 rom, then check the RUU in my sig.
root, upgrade or leave
thankks for that.
are there only a certain amount of customs roms available for Desire , ie, CM7(GB) or can you install newer versions.
This rooting sounds good but before i doi am going to need to know more, especially the continual development for this device.
is there still good support from XDA for this device.
I am after good support and devlopment.
Why not look at the development thread and make up your own mind if the community is active or not?
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk 2
root, upgrade or leave
looks busy.
just hope i dont do the wrong thing.
so is it possible to install other roms apart from cm7 what about the latest roms??
Read the first couple of posts, and the last few pages of the thread to get a feel for stability and issues. I see a simple, basic decision process, decide if you want something new and shiny, which might have a few problems, or something old and maybe a bit boring, but reliable.(gingerbread vs ics/jb)
Once that decision has been made just choose your Rom, make sure you have the right hboot for the one you want to try, so long as you have your nandroid backup to fall back on you're unlikely to break anything.

I have been reading the posts and threads about rooting and it sounds quite complicated.
Reading a mag about android and rooting you can also do it without connecting to your pc.
As I am not technologically minded on phones , the mag seemed to make it sound easier.
I think the software for the phone or website is called z4??
any ideas on this.
many thanks
A quick search suggests it's not a lot of use for us. Rooting and s-off are relatively complicated, but worth the rewards, and you can't expect a whole new phone experience without a little effort...

I'm in similar situation. I rooted my 2.2 Froyo yesterday. Installed Link2SD made appropriate partition and moved apps to it. So thats not the problem anymore.
Now I'm wondering if I should instal custom ROM and which one?
My high priorities:
Stability
Advanced functions working properly (eg. tethering)
Speed (faster than stock froyo)
My low priorities:
As new as possible (JB?)
Sense
Easy to install
Which one should I get? Or should I stay on Froyo?

You can't have sense and jb at the same time. If you want sense, you will have to install gb. If you want JB, you will have stability problems after a while, if not in the first week.
So what you are asking is impossible to fulfill.
If you want a stable sense, try Coolsense v3, or Runnymede aio special edition.
If you want jb, then try VJ's JB.

thanks for that.
so my aim is the following:
1.- newer and stable rom
2.- better performance
3. good and continual support for that rom.
all help welcome.

pls tell me as i dont understand the terminology listed on that page.
I know very little, but in my opinion, yes. Start with something tried and tested..and popular. Once you've gone through the process of rooting and flashing a new (to you) rom that's known to work, do the backups and have a look at the new stuff we'll never officially have, ics and jb. That backup will be there to give you a quick "Get me outta here" option.
