Root access for OSX?

May I know is there a way for MAC OSX?
Cause I only have a macbook pro.
Anyone know please tell me.

I done mine on a macbook pro mate.
I used windows on here too though for the ruu.exe.
I find it really worth while to have windows installed on a MBP, just install it through bootcamp!

Can I do it in VMWare Fusion?

Though I've not tried it myself, there should be no problem running the RUU through Windows on VMware Fusion so long as you've attached your phone to the virtual machine.

So should I just the current method for rooting?
The r3 one?!

R3 should be fine, as long as you use the Linux ISO image in Fusion.

But may I know what can I do with my phone after root?
Cause new to using Android.

To be brutally honest, if you don't know the reasons why you want to root, you probably don't need to root.
However, that being said, here are some good reasons why you might wish to do so:
1. Market Enabler - if you're in a region that doesn't allow paid apps, you can use Market Enabler to "spoof" your region in the Market to allow you to buy apps.
2. Apps2SD - if you're the sort of person who is going to install hundreds of apps on your phone, you'll appreciate the ability to install your apps to your SD card instead of phone memory.
3. Custom ROMs - whilst these are currently thin on the ground for the Desire, if you want to play with other ROMs, you'll need to root to install custom ROMs. This may become more important when Android 2.2 is released, as HTC are historically very slow providing updates for their devices (Hero -I'm looking at you!
4. Specific apps - some apps (e.g. Titanium Backup) require root access to function correctly. The same applies to other features like wireless tethering via WiFi or Bluetooh.
5. Control - you are just the sort of person who wants to know they are in complete control of their device. Whilst it is currently possible to root (thanks to Paul @ MoDaCo), future updates may prevent it so by rooting now you keep your options open.

hi guys,
i dont want to have the nodo update but i updated is it possible to remove nodo after update? or downgrade or something like this... i have no unlock now and the games the market are tooooo expensive...
i need a good instruction for downgrading or how to remove the nodo. thx alot

Step by step instructions for solving your problem:
1. Stop wasting time on this board
2. Apply for a part time job
3. Get job
4. Use cash from job to pay developers for their work

We don't know you, but we can judge you based off of your posts. If you are not willing to take a chance on a 6buck game, then don't.
But when you come on here advocating piracy, you will get flamed and possible banned. I wonder if you ever went back and bought any of those games after "trialing" them.... I bet not.

I have a Italian htc mozart with nodo.
I would like to downgrade to unlock it

I have a HTC Mozart from the German T-Mobile.
Because it took me to much time to wait for NoDo I flashed with a HTC debranded Rom and made the update to NoDo.
Now I would like to go back to the Build 7004 of the debranded Rom to make the unlock / jailbreak and later update to NoDo.
So I thougt I just flash the debranded Rom over my current NoDo Phone.
But everytime I flash it, there is still NoDo!!!
The Rom didn't had NoDo when I flashed it in the first place. It seems like flashing doesn't work or the Phone updates it self during the first start up.
I tried it more than one time.
Flashing back to the original T-Mobile Rom brings me back to Build 7004. But when I flash now the debrandet Rom it will be NoDo!
Anybody have an idea?

I have known enough of the HTC hardware architecture over the years to realize that re-imaging should be a no-brainer but also that the devil is in the partitions. However, for some unexplained reason, Mr. Watson's note/warning makes me wonder if reflashing will actually leave it just as new...

Are you flashing using all the nbh files (meaning, *all* partitions)? What tool are you using to flash? Maybe that scenario is what he describes in his post, where there are leftovers? {however should not apply if flashing} But, you say that using the original ROM does bring everything back to 7004. Odd indeed.
As a final note and taking a different approach, check http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=671743. He mentions that when dumping there is a bunch of unkown partitions. What if the update stored some update-related stuff, applicable only to the unbranded version (in other words, those alledged update bits being version specific)? Such a conspiracy theory would suit your scenario.

Maybe I can solve the problem flashing another Rom from this site. It really seems like there is a rest of the NoDo-Update on the Phone for the HTC Rom.
But even when I flash down to 7004 with the T-Mobile Rom the NoDo pieces will stay.
A friend using Android asked me if it's not possible to set an option to erase the whole phone before flashing. That could be an option but I'm not sure if it's available on Windows Phone.
OK, I will work with the T-Mobile Rom. Do you think it will work installing NoDo and later flash back to the 7004 Version?

Hi there, to be honest I have no clue. I suspect your friend is a Samsung user (I have 3 devices) and yes you can repartition a Samsung and very easily mess it up beyond almost almost any help. I have never seen a repartitionable HTC device but my knowledge at such low level is quite superficial. From the bootloader viewpoint they do seem almost identical (newer versions aside) to me.

Hello developers!
I couldn't find out how to add .xap's to my rom so they get installed on the first start...Just putting the .xap into the IMGFS folder doesn't work. So, there has to be something missing or something like that.
Could someone please help me?

this is what actually happened to me

Each xap is referenced to a license.xml file. Find a way to stop the phone from checking the license, that would work. I think this should be the next development for windows phone. We now have hspl(for HTC), full unlock, and internet sharing, this would be nice. Even better would be if you clicked an xap file file in touchxplorer it would bring up that screen from first boot and install xap directly. Gotta be a way.

I got the following response:
The application cannot be tested for compliance for Windows Phone 7 Application Certification Requirements because it fails to launch on all Windows Phone 7 devices. The application terminates at launch.
However, I tested it on my own device and emulator, it works fine on all of them.
Here is a little background.
My app requires internet to run, if there is no internet for the phone, it will pop a message to let users know that it needs the internet and exit.
Currently, I am supporting both Nodo and Mango. Mango version has been approved already. The nodo version shares most the code of mango with 7.1 related features removed. The mango version has the title of "XXX for mango", and the nodo version has the title of "XXX for nodo". I don't know if this can be the cause of the problem. Can someone please give me some insights on this?

I am fairly certain that you shouldnt be exiting the application like that. Bring them to a screen/page that lets them retry or make the popup let them retry.

I am not sure if that was the problem tho. because my app has been like this since day 1, and mango version was recently certified too.

I did, it failed again. The only reason I can think of is that if its not an clean install, meaning update from an existing older version of the app, there might be some issues, since I changed the structure of the storages. but i don't know how to test it.

If you install your previous version (hope you kept your versioning archived somewhere) by deploying to emulator/phone, then deploy the new version, it may act as an upgrade, and you should be able to see what is happening with debugger attached. I haven't released an upgrade to any of my apps, so I'm not too sure on this feature.
If you did change isolated storage (definitions, etc), that may be your problem (serialization/deserialization).
Try the Windows Phone Power Tools from Codeplex, it has options to 'Upgrade': http://wptools.codeplex.com/ and provides a GUI for browsing storage.
There is also an Isolated Storage Explorer as part of the SDK [http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh286408(v=VS.92).aspx] that should allow you to see everything that may have changed between versions.

I was thinking the 'Thanks' button that is attached to a post; kind of like receiving a badge for helping others.
As a user I'd probably be unhappy if I was asked to have to reinstall, but I guess if the update contains some good stuff and I wouldn't lose data, it isn't too difficult to uninstall/install again and is only a minor inconvenience.
Is there anyway you can code in to convert from previous storage structure to the new one since a standard WP app upgrade preserves the previous version?

I just did. Well, I just used the tool you pointed me. I first installed the old version of the app, open and close it a few times, check the setting file, making sure, it has the old structure, and i "updated" with the newer version, it opens fine, and I check the setting file, the file has the new structure. So it doesn't really prevent the app from launching. So it is not really the problem. Will you be interested in being my beta tester?

I purchased the Developer Edition, as I wanted to root my phone.
However, I am on an Apple computer and wanted to know if anyone could help me out.
How do I flash recovery for the M8 and install SuperUser on an Apple computer?

There are tools that offer easy 1-click operations; but they're mostly WIndows only. I guess, the easiest way is for you to install Parallels; and download a copy of Windows. Go get the Developer trial copy directly from Microsoft (if still available?). Sure, it's a hassle to setup your workflow, but once you've got this going, you'll find it easier to root/flash your M8. Also, Android File Transfer on the Mac is… crappy (to say the least).

I actually have Parallels and I'm running Windows 8.1.
I didn't think to try this, as HTC drivers were a bit off for Windows 8 before.
