What's a good dalvik vm heap size? - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I changed it to 32 and my phone runs better... can I put it at like 50 or 100 and the same effect??
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App

This is an ok read on it with some testing at different values. If you make it too big, your device would run slower. But it mostly depends on the apps themselves.

Thanks for the great wordpress article!

I have used 64m for a long time now, and it gives the phone a noticible boost in performance. Screens scroll smoother, and apps open quicker. I also have it set by default, to 64m in my rom Touch of Blue.

[Q] Set CPU and underclock - how to?

I apologize in advance if this is the most noob question ever, but I'm coming from a DX and the mod options are slim.
I've been reading that many people set cpu and underclock to get better battery life. I've been trying to figure out how to do that and haven't been successful.
Can someone point me in the right direction?? Anything I can do to squeeze out more battery life would be great.

Looks like a good link.
I'd also recommend looking at the help that comes with set cpu. Iirc, it was pretty helpful when I was using it.

The savings seem to diminish as the number of profiles grow. If you keep it simple (say with just a screen off profile), then you'll probably realize some savings.

[TIP] Make ICS Run Smoother! :D

Go to Settings - Developer Settings - Force 2D GPU (Check it)
There... Your Phone Will Run Way Smoother.
That is bad in the long run

Dosnt that just drain your battery?
No. It forces the GPU to run instead of the CPU. It works in a similar way as when you run a game, the GPU controls all the graphics while the CPU handles the rest. So the GPU should be used to handle the GUI, not the CPU handling processes and GUI. And leave the GPU doing barely any work.
Also certain apps will not run correctly, like the XDA app

Not only does it not do much it screws up allot of apps. If it was all that great it would be checked by default.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
I really do not know what you guys are talking about. I have that option turned on right now, and it works PERFECT. Also, did you know the developers enabled that on GB? But did it do anything bad to the phone? No. Did you guys agree? Yes.

i think it is the default for aokp... i just looked and it was checked on my phone and i don't remember doing it (and i just flashed an updated build yesterday).
I've been using that setting for a couple days now. I've notice no ill effects. Seems fine.

Some pics don't show up in the xda app regardless, that has been an issue for awhile now. Has nothing to do with having that checked.
Are you saying it happens more often with it checked?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
The app itself should be optimize to take use of it. If an app can do it, it will automatically do it. I personally recommend leaving it unchecked for various reasons such as the picture problem stated above as well as not every app is coded to work with it properly.
Using the latest XDA app, premium or free.. do you guys still get notified whether its message or thread subscription??? After updating to ICS, I noticed it doesnt notify me anymore..
Idk what you guys are talking about. I've had ICS since the nexus s and ALWAYS tick 2d gpu with every flash. Its become second nature for me. It forces gpu acceleration throughout. There's absolutely no harm done by this. And if you say there is, send a log cat of the error to the dev because its the roms fault.
Cyanogenmod 9 official nightly.. LOVING IT!!

Facebook

The big update finally hit android users. It's way faster. !!!

Doesn't seem any faster at all. I can't tell one bit of a difference. I have a 25 mbit connection and it still takes ages to load photo albums. Still a horrible app.

Idk dude every update that Facebook claims to be "faster" and have "less battery consumption" just seems like bull. It sucks battery no matter what and the app is no faster and completely identical to the mobile site. In fact if you just set your profile to send email notifications it notifies you on everything instantly

Supposedly the app is a complete rewrite to be Android native...Testing it for myself...I've been a big fan of FriendCaster Pro, so I hope they took a few notes from them

Ram always at 1.12 gb!!

Usually my ram is at 500-600mb at normal usage but now after I installed antutu benchmark test from play store it keeps increasing to .9gb to 1.12gb with no usuage at all I clear ram leave it then check it out after hour or so the ram fills up and draining the battery with 10% drained I restarted the phone same thing even with uninstalling the app it is really annoying draining the battery like that and having ram at this level what do u think I should do or what is causing it.
Thanks

Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
It will remain always like that. you need not to do anything, android itself having LMK(low memory killing) and will make free whenever it needs.
So keep as it is, It's good for health.
PS : Though you want to keep free, use option limit background process in developer option in setting, don't know ultimately how much it will improve battery, but surely it will take time to open application.
Don't worry too much about RAM usage, and don't use task killers. Unlike with Windows or your usual linux distribution, android has control on which app stays in memory and which one is killed. And it is pretty good at managing this without user intervention.
As for battery life, I recommend BetterBatteryStats if you whant to know what is draining it. But by personal experience, I think you should look at apps that use background data connection, like Facebook.
Mine always sits around 1.55 - 1.65ghz lol
Edit: I just realised I wrote GHz instead of GB. *facepalm* fail on my behalf lol

Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I did a factory reset and same problem still exist ram at 0.95gb - 1.12gb why. When I usually do factory reset it settles at 500-600mb now with no apps it is high as mentioned above.

Does anything not work as you think it should? Or is this just a matter of numbers? Any performance issues?

The problem it wasn't like that and now the issue is the battery drainage with this high ram even after a factory reset.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
The battery drainage is much more likely from you constantly trying to kill all those apps, since they then have to restart again. If your phone is not slow, just don't worry about it.

Just looks like the app developer needs to change the color coding on his app. You're only using 28% of your cpu at 1.2ghz. He's probably got red coded for 0-30%, where on cpu, you usually code the graphs to show green from 0-60 and red is usually 80%+.
The reasom I was concerned is because the phone was gettin unusually hot and was lagging alot and u guys know the note 2 never lags
