Problem with update.. - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello im new to android world.. l have a HTC Desire that i have boughted it about a couple of months... I rooted my phone with the untevoked method.. About 4 days ago an update came to my phone (that was about 28 mb) and i sucussefully installed it through the recovery (install updte.zip option).. Yesterday i resevesd another update (5 mb) but i cant install it, even through the recovery.. The error says assert failed and returns error code 7. So how can i install this update?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App

You should know that root+ota=fail
The other fail - "assert failed apply_patch_check" is because it failed to verify the current version of your system, that is because it's modified (rooted and probably some other mods). Another reason maybe because the file you've downloaded is corrupted (I haven't heard of a 5mb OTA, lately).
By being on a stock rom, you'll not receive this error.
Also, an OTA applied to a rooted ROM bears significant chance to mess up things.
So in short, unroot and then apply the updates.

Thanks for your reply my friend! So i have to unroot.. well actually i dont have idea how i can do this.. I searched the web but i cant find a guide for noobs.. :/ Thanks

You need to run RUU from the official Rom from your pc.

Yeah, as said, you need to use a RUU.exe or ROM.zip
and you should tell us your original software info, and whether you have installed a custom rom.

Well here is the software info..
Android version: 2.2
Basic system version: 32.49.00.32U_5.11.05.27
Kernel version: 2.6.32.15-gf5a401c [email protected] #1
Version number: 2.29.405.2 CL263770 release-keys
Software number: 2.29.405.2
(I rootet my phone with the latest unrevoked program v.3.22)
So if i flash the RUU im gonna lose all my data?

Yes, running a RUU will erase your data and unroot your phone.
Given that your phone is unbranded you should use this one http://www.shipped-roms.com/downloa...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_159811_signed.exe
But if your phone is now working with no problems (which means your lucky), there is really no need to erase all your data in order to apply a minor update.

So i think its better to not run RUU for a minor update and i think if HTC release an update for android 2.3 then i should flash with RUU.. correct?
And one more thing.. The RUU that you send me contains greek keyboard??
Thanks for you time!

Yes, if there soon is a 2.3 official release, you should run a RUU not an OTA.
And also, there is a greek keyboard in this RUU (at least in mine ).

Thanks again for you time my friend!

[Q] A system update is available (2.29.405.2 - 28.87MB). Install?

I've just installed Official_FroYo_2.10.405.2 on my rooted HTC Desire.
Checked for updates and was offered to install the system update mentioned above.
Is there any point for me to install it? anyone heard anything good/bad about this update?
Thanks
You shouldn't apply OTA updates to a rooted phone. There is a high probability that it will mess something up.
I would suggest you get the 2.29.405.5 RUU from shipped roms and run that.
However, this will wipe your phone and you'll need to root again.

Thanks for the info.
Regarding installing a new RUU, as this is a pain in the ass, are there any substential changes from 2.1 to 2.29 that you are aware about, which are worth the trouble?
Not sure about the changes. Look for a changelog on HTCs website.
I would suggest running it though as your rom is a good few months out of date

Hello, I read 2.29.405.5 RUU brings nice camera updates... any chance I could apply that to the (custom) ROM AuraXTSense 8.2?

[Q] Unable to Update to Gingerbread

hey everyone, I need a bit of help...
I have an unbranded Desire HD bought in Taipei
its rooted, with S-off.
The current version i'm running is 1.37
I tried to update to 1.84 but once I do, wifi stops working. I figured that upgrading to 2.3 will fix my problem so i downloaded the update using internet pass through.
but i am unable to update from 1.84-2.3. even if using clockwork recovery.
Any idea on what I should do?
Please help, I would prefer to have my phone up to date and in peak form.

You can't update if you are rooted, flash whatever version you want using an Ruu file.

is it that simple? Will i have to wipe or no? and would it be too much to ask for a link to the Ruu files,
I'm at the office atm, i'll download the ruu file at home, so i'll probably search at home but if you reply before i'm off work i would be much obliged.
You can find the Gingerbread RUU on my site. You will need a goldcard if you have a branded/regional build. The RUU will only work natively with x.xx.405.x builds.

[Q] Wildfire S Update 2.3.5??

I have been hearing from some of our members' post, that there has been a 2.3.5 update to this device.
I would like to know how to update, since mine still shows 'No updates found'.
I'm eager to get this update!
Guess its launched only in Europe. Not sure though. Hopefully it comes to rest of the region's fast

Mine was showing no updates too but this was no problem for me to update, check the general thread for the Stock ROM Collection
EDIT: and please, read and check the threads first... do not open threads just because you are lazy!
I am in Europe too,no update yet.
Just flashed the latest RUU from the stickied topics. I'm on 2.3.5 now, new lockscreen too. Strangely it shows Sense v2.1. :-(

Yes, it is Sense 2.1. Only lockscreen is added.
Now that's just stupid...
Fastboot oem still doesn't work. So, HTCDev method is a no-go for now.
But, we got an OTA update atleast.
I'm now pretty confident that we're gonna get our bootloaders unlocked soon enough.
I still hate them for updating it so late, but atleast they updated the phone.

Strange, never happened to me. Don't start HTC Sync on your PC. Just connect the usb in htc sync mode. Try that.

Make sure when you connect your phone you select htc sync mode. And make sure if htc sync opens on your pc you close it properly from the task bar not just the htc sync window because it will still be running and you will find errors as i did.
Good luck.

[Q] Updating from a old rom

Hey
Just wondering if someone can point me in the right direction here
Basically i have an old Desire HD which i flashed a long time ago. Back then to put the rom on i had to just copy a PD98IMG.zip file to the SD card and reboot with vol down + power, it would automatically detect the file and ask to flash.
Its been a while since i did it and i think the methods have all changed now, i use 4Ext Touch on my sensation to flash. However i would like to update this Desire HD to something new but no idea how to update the new roms as im guessing the process has changed a tad.
I have no idea which rom is on it now but the details are:
Android Version: 2.3.5
HTC Sense: 3.0
Software Number: 3.12.405.1
Kernal:
2.6.35.10-g931a37e
[email protected] #1
Wed Nov 9 14:04:03
Build Number: 3.12.405.1 CL199157
Any ideas how to update this one?
Thanks for any help
Cheers
Hi.
I can't post a link but if you go to the development thread and then go to [ROM] Android Revolution HD™ 7.0.2 and look down the first post there are links to guides to do all you will need to do. If you have already rooted your device it will be easy. If not you'll have to do that first.
Hope this helps.

Update as in what? What you have is the current stock rom. Of your talking about going to a custom rom its the same as in the sensation . Full wipe and flash in recovery

Its not a stock rom from what i remember, i used to use a Energy rom, but i believe i flashed a different rom on this one before i got my sensation, which was like a cut down version with less crap from what i remember (sorry i cant remember the rom name)
If i can get it back to the stock rom, that would be great also, then i can at least start from scratch. i presume i cant just run the ruu exe?

This has been asked before. You would have found more help by searching. You can get the stock recovery in the RUU for your respective firmware version. Search around for that. I can't help you right now but maybe when I go home, if you still haven't found anything.

Thank You very much for ur reply brother.I am searching for that file for about 3 days.My luck is against me.Recovery.img file is available for many others android, but for dhd is unavailable.Pleaese help me by providing the link.
Here, download this file, connect your phone to computer and run it (Windows only). It will restore you to complete stock state and erase all your data. From what I've understood, you want to go back to stock state including stock recovery so that you can install an OTA. This will put back stock recovery and make your phone 100% stock. It's called an RUU (ROM Update Utility) by HTC.

Md5sum is the data checking algorithm made to ensure there is no changes in the data during transfer. This is also used to prevent any unwanted changes that maybe dangerous to the user. Google it if you want it more detailed. Basically, md5sum is used to make sure that the file that u have is the same one that is released by the maker.
If it is working fine then you dont need to.
