I think the bitrate is too high. I've played 720p videos fine.

No. I usually play hd video with 15 mb/sec bitrate. But video with 8 mb/sec don't play, i think bitrate is not being..

As you can see, matter is not in bitrate. "Heavier" file opens and play well. I think business in codecs of desire hd.
What about the audio? Maybe it's not aac?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
did you try playing it with rockplayer? you can get it from free on the market..
All audio track is acc, rackplayer and other players don't support hardware acceleration. In software mode video i laggy.

Hi,
I don't know whether i'm supposed to open a new thread, but my problem is similiar to the one explained here. I wanted to play some HD videos on my Desire HD and intended on copying the video on the SD-Card and simply launch it with RockPlayer. Well, this didn't work out as I had hoped: I had a picture and sound, but i was lurching and async or in other terms: impossible to watch!
So I went online and asked why this was. I was told, that my SD Card was way to slow and that I should use at least a Class4 SD card. I bought a Class6 SD Card, and it still does not work a bit better. Why?

Since mp4 and mkv both use h264 as the video codec you can create a mp4 file by copying the video stream using avidemux and re-encoding just the audio as acc. This will take just a couple of minutes because no re-encoding of the video is being done and you will be able to watch it from your class2 SD card. Any reasonable bitrate should be perfectly fine on a class2 card if you can watch it using the hardware accelleration.
Sometimes when I play mp4 files, it randomly stops and says it can't be played.
Stock video player sucks horribly, so does rockplayer and vplayer is no longer free.
Only thing to do is wait for VLC port on android.

Since the Eris got rooted, we've been working to get live wallpapers working on our phones. Despite all our efforts, we're stuck one one little thing.
Some of the wallpapers, when the phone isn't plugged in, and it sleeps (either manually or by itself), the wallpapers crash and revert back to a static wallpaper.
Examples of some that do it are Nexus, Grass, and Water. Others, such as Polar or Duck Hunt don't have the issue.
If the phone is plugged into the USB, all the wallpapers work perfectly fine.
Another thing to note, the wallpapers that crash when the phone sleeps, also will crash if run in Launcher2.
Anyways, since ya'll have been messing with this stuff a lot longer than we have, I was hoping maybe one of ya'll has run into a similar issue perhaps, and might be able to offer any advice on something we haven't thought of yet?

Here's a logcat from the error:

That should give some indication as to why they are really buggy. If you were to perhaps use your .27 kernel source you may see better results, as it has a supported openGL, though 3d games will work like crap and camera wouldn't probably work on your phone with it and 2.1.
Don't take this for fact, i'm only speculating. Go try it out for yourself and tell me if it fixes it
We're using the .29 kernel now. Does it not have OpenGL support? I really don't think that's the issue though, as the lwp's run perfectly fine as long as the phone stays plugged into usb.
.27 kernel won't run with 2.1, just tried it.
Hey guys,
I started to have these problems right after I got my Desire about 2 months ago. Sometimes when I set my phone to standby and airplane mode (with OR without alarm, doesn't matter), in the morning I lost about 10-20% of battery charge.
Normally, it's about 2-4% when it's sleeping correctly. Now, I'm starting to run out of ideas of what could be the problem. I had the problem with stock ROM, I have it with modded 2.1 ROMs...
When I go to Batterysettings, where you can see the "Uptime" and "Activetime", I can directly see, that it isn't sleeping correctly: when I put it to standby, Activetime was about 10mins (rebooted 1hour before that). In the morning, it's at 4-6 hours - so it was active nearly the whole time.
At the moment I'm using Amer Bravox V4.1, and I still got this issue. I'm really running out of ideas and it's starting to pi** me off.
Maybe you guys got an idea of what could be the problem? I got my AppBrain App List here, maybe it's some App that's causing the problem:

I too am having problems with partial wake lock.
At first it was the Playlist Alarm application which prevented my phone to go to a complete sleep (even in Airplane mode). But I can see that you don't have that installed.
The 2 other things that might help your phone to sleep is to switch off Network Time and Location for the night.
I have to do this every night when I put my phone to Airplane mode and it sleeps correctly.
I suspect that with Network Time and Location turned ON, the phone constantly tries to update itself but of course the GSM module is switched off.
Give that a try and see what happens.
Allright, I used logcat now to look what's going on.

The upper one is in "Date-Format" the second one in "RAW-Format". I don't underrstand that much in the second one but it seems that FeedR is trying to sync every 30mins and something is going on with Beautiful Widgets.
But is this really enough to prevent my phone from standby? I mean...FeedR is trying to do this every 30mins and it takes not even a second..
I can also see something about Time and Location in the second log. Maybe it's really what you said, ferus - Network Time and Location. I will turn that off next night and see how it goes.
What else could be wrong?
Just wanted to report in:
- I disabled BeautifulWidget geolocation
- I disabled FeedR AutoUpdate
- I disabled Wireless Location
- I disabled automatic date&time
And my phone lost 2% over the night.
I think the main problem are as you said wireless location and date&time. That's a bit frustrating, especially the last one.
Well, you can try to turn them on one by one and see which exactly is the bad guy.
I disabled Network time permanently but I don't miss that feature at all. The phone is able to track time just fine
The location is a bit of a bummer as I use it quite often. But I reported it to HTC and hopefully they will have a look at it.
My problem with sleep/standby only started after the OTA update so I thought HTC missed a few things in that update.
Guys it's something freaks me out.
i have updated Froyo 2.2.2 UAE blur and i cant run 720p anymore
in 2.1 i was able to run it.
and the frames and everything is the same.
any idea how to deal with it????

i have tried the frames and lots of stuff but 720p noway!
I had the same problem after updating to official german vodafone froyo. As it seems to me, there are missing some files for 720p playback. Please take a look to this: Froyo 720p Playback
I downloaded the lib.zip from first post and added all MISSING files to /system/lib and /system/lib/dsp. I did not replace the existing libOMX.TI.Video.Decoder.so and libOMX.TI.Video.encoder.so. So far, 720p playback is pretty good again
Hope this helps!
Still didn't find out what bitrate 720/1080p videos are shot at.....can someone please reply or even better upload somewhere a 5-10sec unedited sample?
thx!
Go ahead and post a panorama shot also, curious what max dimensions they have now in sense 4.
This would certainly be interesting, I would also like to know if photos can be saved in raw so they can be edited in Photoshop and if the jpeg compression is adjustable, allowing 0% compression?

Very unlikely, and what would even be the point of an uncompressed JPEG (the whole point is it's a compressed format.)

photos are actually captured RAW and passed over to the Imagesense processor which converts them to JPEG.
so output is always JPEG, maybe someone will figure out how to bypass the processor and output RAW...
didn't anyone shoot a damn video with the thing in 2 days and can post here some numbers?

that's impossible! 1080p @ 5mbps and 21 fps?!?!!!!
what are the values for 720p?
The videos are horrible. It totally looks like 5mbit/s
I have neer ever seen such horrible phone videos
I think someone at HTC screwed up with the videos, expect as fix soon.
I also noticed that the software version is pretty low for a retail device (1.26) Usually release versions are > 1.3 or 1.4

you got these values while shooting in bright daylight?
usually bitrate drops when in lowlight, noticed that on my old Sensation, but never dropped to 5mbps while at it....
can someone else please test and post some mediainfo screenshots?
some guys with the One S got
- 10mbps @ 28fps
- 7.5mbps
maybe there is a catch between the phones' sensor/software after all...i remember seeing a thread where same picture taken with both X and an S looked different...

I saw a thread like that too, and the S looked much worse, which was clearly due to either a poorly-mounted sensor or a decentered lens element.
AFAIK, they both have the same lens and sensor. There is no reason the S would have better video, so you can pretty-much guarantee this whole thing is just another storm in a teacup...

unless it is CPU related... or maybe this is the software bug that is making HTC delaying reviews from getting posted..

There's pretty much zero chance it's CPU-related, and no, I don't believe it's the bug, either. Occam's Razor; simplest explanation. It's either user error on the part of the one person who reported a lower bit rate, or simply a difference caused by their settings and/or shooting conditions. I'd be willing to place money that both phones record in basically identical bitrates in the same conditions.
524 views and still no 1080p sample that we can dissect
come on guys...can someone shoot a 10sec sample in bright daylight?
FYI, two sample videos--presumably out-of-camera--are now available from mobile-review.com's Russian-language version.
NOTE: THESE ARE STATED TO BE SHOT WITH PRE-PRODUCTION FIRMWARE. Both seem to show significant frame dropping, for me, although I've yet to open them in Premiere Pro and try stepping through frames...

ok it's official...bitrate blows for a 2012 flagship phone.
From Engadget review:
"The One X captures 1080p video at a silky smooth 30fps with continuous autofocus and stereo audio. Results mostly look sharp and sound clear -- we noticed some faint video compression artifacts (bitrate is 10Mbps) and the automatic gain control reacted a little too quickly to wind noise, but this is nothing to be concerned about in most situations. In contrast with how quickly the camera handles stills, there's about a four-second (!) delay between tapping the on-screen video capture button and the actual start of the recording which means you're likely to miss some firsts if you're not prepared. There's one more neat trick worth mentioning, and that's slow motion. Yes, this shooter is able to record 480p widescreen video (768 x 432 pixels, to be exact) at 60fps for playback at about 24fps"
hmm, can anyone please download and install the ICS Camera+ application, enable the 2x bitrate option and post results?
afaik it doesn't modify the mediaprofiles.xml but takes whatever it's in there and doubles the value in-app! So you should immediately see an improvement at 20mbps for 1080p.
come on guys, do us sitting (for now) on the sidelines a big favor
I got the htx one x and the video is horrible jerky and low fps and low bitrate... hope they will fix this soon!
Why can't HTC get these things right? All of the cameras in all of their phones have been disappointing especially when it comes to video. A reason to pass this phone by.
Come on Samsung..hurry up with that S3 will ya!
One with default camera, one with ICScamera+(notice purple error).
Default
ICS camera+
Is video recording so important to you that you will wait several months to get the S3?
Hi, I'm using G7(LM-G710N) on Android 10, and I'm suspicious about the "bypass" going on in well-known hi-fi music apps(UAPP, Neutron...).
I've heard that they upscale 16/44.1Khz files to 24/44.1Khz to avoid Android mixer, but my device seems to upscale it to 24/48Khz. AudioFlinger output recognizes the samplerate correctly, but in logcat, it seems like there is some mess going on, and the final output is 24/48Khz.
The same thing happens while playing 24/384Khz files, which downscales it to 24/192Khz.
I've tried mostly with UAPP, and tried turning MQA flag on, which upscaled everything to 24/176Khz or 24/192Khz, and the results that I'm talking about is with all set to default except setting bit-perfect on.
I know that there was a quick debate similar to this topic, but I can't find any answers to what is happening to my G7. Does anyone know what is going on or is there a thread that could help me? Thanks in advance.

Do you have any audio mods? If so, that's likely why. The G7 will not play audio as it was intended to with ANY audio mods...Viper, Narsil, JDSP, Dolby....none of them

Thank you for your reply, and no, I didn't turn on any audio mods on. I'm not a fan with DTS:X mod, and I don't play with EQ, so it's all in default/off settings. The only thing I've changed is the digital filter, which is set to Slow.
