Im not looking to root just want to restore my phone. Can someone please help me?
Try to download and install an official RUU then. Pick the build version that matched the build of your phone before you tried rooting....assuming it might be 3.30.651.3?? since your HBOOT is 2.02.
Supersonic Shipped ROMs
EDIT: You followed the steps in post 1 of that root method thread right? I didn't see it mention anything about continuing if you encountered errors?? But if you said you wiped the phone and the ROM didn't load properly, then you prob don't have a ROM installed and encountered errors during root...you might also not be NAND unlocked. So if you can run the RUU, it should put you back to stock.
i have tried the ruu and it keeps saying my bat is less then %30 when its not.

Did you follow the unroot guide in dev section?

yes i have.i tried using the ruu's but i keep getting an error saying wrong bootloader.i dont know what else to do.
If you don't care about losing root, use the 2.2 unofficial RUU file and see if that works.
where do i find that?
i found it but not sure if i wanna lose root.i just wanna be able to flash cyanogen mod.it wont let me but i can flash any other rom..i keep getting an error when flashing rom in recovery.something about bootloader.anybody have any ideas as to why i keep getting that error?

This is how I was able to unroot:
1. Ran the 1 Click SimpleRoot OTA 1.47.651.1 Edition root program. This downgraded my evo to 1.17.651.1 while still mainting HBOOT .76.2000 (this is very important!)
2. Downloaded one of the RUU files (RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.6_Radio_1.39.00.05.31_release_171253_signed.exe), connected my evo and launched the update . Ensure you have the latest HTCSync software installed before running the program. I used version 2.0.40
I successfully unrooted my phone, and rooted it back to 1.47.xxx just as an academic exercise.
This should work for you. Also search the forum, there's a ton of info (albeit disorganized) on how to do this.

That's where I run into problems.my hboot is .79.000. I use the ruu and i get errors about wrong bootloader.and simpleroot doesn't work.the step where u type in the website doesn't work.i get a blue Lego block with a question mark.
Which version of SimpleRoot are you using? I used the most recent version of the app (the latest has just 2 buttons NOT 4). Make sure after downloading to use the update option to check for updates. For some strange reason, the Simpleroot app is able to downgrade your HBOOT to .76.2000 (I couldn't achieve that by manually completing steps 1 & 2 of Toastchf method AND running the RUU - it always came up with that error UNTIL I resorted to the SimpleRoot method.) Maybe someone else can chime in. Anyways, give it a try.
Hi i have a virginmedia Desire phone, i have tried every meathod to get 2.2 update on my phone, even bought a 1gig card for goldcard which says is working, when i use gold card tool.
My current boot: 080, Version 123, rom installed, everytime i try to flash a differnt ruu to debrand the phone i get error code 140, i have tried 121, 115 roms without avail.
Any help at this point i would be greatful for.
Or i will just have to wait for VM to release it.
Many Thanks in advance

Post in right sections, mods?
I hope you'll get help tho, nothing against you
one word for you: unrEVOked
www.rootmydroid.co.uk then click "desire" on the right
Hi mate, done that even lost my Normal HTC recovery console.
i read somewere any with 123, bootloader 080 can not update, or downgrade.
can anyone confirm this.
Yes unrEVOked root's your Desire, giving you access to all these nice Rom's on here
Pick one you like to the look of and flash it. You will keep you 0.80 HBOOT and can flash between 2.1, 2.2, Sense and AOSP as you like.
Please help me
You can help yourself by using a proper title for your posts instead of "please help me" and post in the right section, this section is for rom development.
Hi Mate,
Can you give me a little more detail about this, i have tried every solution no to man,
and i either get 121, saying ruu error code 140, or 115, stating error 170,
when i try to root and use the update.zip meathod i get to the assert part then the
install aborts itself.
I would love to someone to tell me if any one out their knows what im doing wrong, or if indeed its a case that my desire has some kind of branded lock on it by VM and HTC,, I am at the end of my tether trying to sort this out. Even bought a new 1gb memory card for rooting still no luck.
I did apologise one before to the admins, im new to this.
I don't think having a go really helps. thanks for your support.
Please could you explain the process, to make sure im doing this correct, sorry for being such a Noob!
Don't be sorry, just explain what your actual problem is
give ys a step by step guide what you are doing with what and where the errors are being thrown up
My problem is: Bootloader 080, Version software 123, Virginmedia unlocked but branded phone, tried all methods to downgrade to 121 so i can flash the 2.2 update.
121 = Error code 140 bootloader when i get to the signatures part, RUU
115 = Error code 171 Bootloader when i get to the singatures part, RUU
Update.zip meathod get the assert part then come up with loads of basic failer errors
then eventually aborts itself.
I made a goldcard = with gold card tool, works fine, but still i cant unbrand my phone, dont know if anyone has come across this, been to Mark Southby blog and no can help me from their. Hopefully you great chaps on here can.
With that bootloader you should not really need to goldcard, just root and flash another rom.
Do not flash the OTA or official 2.2 from HTC as it will just spoil your experiences in the future, if your really that picky about custom roms then just flash a pre-rooted 2.2 stock rom.
Just follow the unrevoked guide on rootmydroid (as per my last post) and you should have no problems (no RUU required).
Many Thanks
for the help i will try that 1st, and come back if i need more assistance.,
sorry for posting in the wrong place.

yep, took me literally 60 seconds.
I rooted my EVO last night and with my luck, the earpiece speaker blew today. I have to take it in for an exchange.
Here is my current situation:
I ran unrevoked-forever-son.zip so my phone is SON right now.
My current radio version is 2.15.00.09.01
My current image version is 3.29.651.5
I have hardware version 3
Android 2.2
Everything is completely functional other than the earpiece speaker.
Here is what I did:
Last night:
I used Unrevoked 3.21 to root it. It rooted fine. I installed WiFi Tether and tested it and it worked great. That is the only app I have installed since the root.
Today:
Speaker crapped out on me during the day.
I came home from work and followed the instructions here: www(dot)thedroiddemos(dot)com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=13&p=115#p115
The SON program ran fine. But when I tried to load the PC36IMG.zip file from the SD card, it responded with a "main is older" error and would not install it.
So then, I went here: forum(dot)xda-developers(dot)com/showthread.php?t=721843. It told me to go to shipped-roms.com to get files that would automatically unroot my phone.
I tried the earliest one and it got all the way to the end and gave me error 140: Bootloader version error. I got the same thing with the second and third oldest.
Both of the most recent files for the the "Waiting for bootloader" error and froze, giving me the dreaded 170 USB error.
I also tried letting it get to the HTC screen and then restarting the RUU program as directed in the XDA post mentioned above. It always led to the 170 error.
I am wits end. I have a 7 day old phone that I can't use until I somehow unroot it and exchange it.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Are you returning it to Sprint or directly to HTC? Chances are, if you just put a stock ROM on it & just use adb or Root Explorer to remove SuperUser.apk they're not even going to realize it's rooted.
Also, this really goes in Q&A, not Development.
Welcome to the forums!
I am returning it to Sprint. Sorry about putting this in the wrong place. I will move it over to Q&A immediately. I was trying to put a stock ROM on it with the above procedures. I just wasn't able to do it.
Thanks for the advice.
Go to this thread and run the RUU. You are unrooted and completely reset. Just make sure you use the S-ON tool from unrevoked.

Cosine,
Do I want to run the S ON tool before or after I do the RUU? I am at S on status now.
Thanks for the help.
I will do that and thanks again.
I tried Cosine's RUU and I am still getting the 170 USB error when I run it. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Do you have HTC Sync installed? It looks like that error was coming up for users that didn't have the latest version / wasn't installed.
No, I uninstalled it to do the root. I am installing it again now. Thank you.
If you really want someone to cover everything good. I've got all night so just let me know. If not, good luck.

Well, I reinstalled HTC Sync and the ROM flashed just fine. This ROM reflashed everything. There is no evidence of root whatsover! I did have to set the entire phone back up, but that was well worth it! Thanks to Veritas06 and Cosine for helping me out.
Just wanted to get this out there. I have been trying to root all night with no luck. Hoping others with same issue will come for an offer help. Free evo accessory for anyone that can get this solved for me.
You need to provide a few more details what you've done to try and achieve root. What method did you try? What are seeing on the screen at the various steps.
I used the long method listed Here. If you're using the .exe file in the other thread, its not as reliable.
I am having the sane issue. I have tried regaw's method, the manual method listed in the hboot S-off thread, and the automated method in the other hboot thread. Everything works except flashing pc36img.zip....it throws the error he mentioned when updating radio v2, plus it throws fail-ic when trying to update bootloader (it does not say "bootloader skipped" as indicated it should in the guide). From this point forward, it will not boot past white HTC splash w/o running ruu. You can even do the rest of the guide and get a custom recovery flashed (i have done both amon-ra, and clockwork). After running ruu, S-off sticks (meaning unrevoked worked, I suppose), but you obviously don't have root. If you try to flash a custom Rom, even just a rooted version of the ruu, it throws a symlink error (something like E:fail can't symlink bin/lsmod....can't remember exact syntax, I posted it in another thread though, I'll see if u can find it). I have tried doing this from custom recovery and from toast's pc-based recovery. Is there a way for me to pull a log of what is happening when the pc36img has its errors? That may be the only way for me to give you more info than I have.

i followed the manual method, it failed with the radio pu, i completed the method, my phone would not boot it was stuck at the "htc evo" screen. So after some research I found the correct file to make my phone boot, The manual steps worked and i rotted my phone but i am unable to put a custom rom on
dl this file rename it pc36img and push it to you phone and reboot in the hboot and let it install it should pass you will have root access and clockworks custom recovery but until someone fixes the roms or gives a answer they wont work they will fail but you will have a phone and root admin.

I used Method 3 from this zikronix's [TOOL][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF thread. Everything works great until I have to flash PC36IMG. It starts but gives the Radio-V2 Fail-PU and Bootloader-Fail-IC. The screen shows updated failed. Upon restart I'm at the red triangle boot screen. Can't do anything else from there.

I don't see what this will do for me since I don't have S-Off status yet. I can't get that far. Plus, this isn't a comeplete root. I have another Evo here that has the exact same specs, right down to Hardware 003 and I just did the Method 3 root and it went through with flying colors. So...

I think it is the bad blocks issue popping up again. I read about it in toast's root thread, I believe. If I am right, toast figured out a fix before. We may have to find a way to use his fix again. It was for a different bootloader, though. Might not work straight out of the box. I'm no dev, but this seems to me to be what is happening.
tejasrichard, i didnt know you got an Evo.
Come see us in #HTC-EVO on irc.freenode.net
Alot of devs hang out in irc so you guys might be able to get help there.
Use clockwork.
For some reason, amon ra doesn't work right away. You'll get fail-pu with it.

Sup Otis! Yeah, I finally got my upgrade, lol! I'm a little late to the party, but better late than never, right? I'll stop by tomorrow and say hi (promised the missus some quality time tonight). I've got a few more things I want to try, but I'm betting whatever toast did b4 to get around the bad blocks will work again. Need to pm him and see what he thinks.
I have rooted my phone before but I don't what a custom ROM or kernel. I just want to root the phone to allow me to use setCPU and Wireless Tether.
I haven't been able to find anything that works. I tried the below link but my virus software will not allow me to save the files. I can't turn off the software (work computer).

yeah well you were following the right guide.
did you check your device manager while phone is plugged in to make sure drivers are all set?
maybe try the universal root by xHausx
he says it should work with 2.02 now.
just follow all instructions slowly. everyone has had success with the guide your first started to use.
let us know what you get. and always be very descriptive. Must explain everything in detail to get the best help.
Hey guys I was having some trouble with that too, I had rooted using unrevoked and unrooted with the s-on tool and a PC36IMG, I tried going back to root with the original method but the modified USB driver was already installed and unrevoked wouldn't work.
Don't ask me why but I accepted the OTA update and now trying to root with the method linked to above gives me an error at the last line of step 4, telling me rageagainstthecage cannot me found.
I was just wondering if there's any hope??? I'll take any root method you can suggest.
PS the root and unroot guides I used were from the droiddemos.com but evidently I cannot link to them until I reach 8 posts.
ive tried atleast 5+ different rooting methods but cant seem to get it.. i rooted my samsung moment easily as well as others but when it comes to this evo i cant do it.. i bricked it 2 times and to the point where i couldnt even flash the stock ruu anymore but luckily it was only 2 days since buying it so i was able to do a brand new swap and now i have my new evo #2 and havent touched it yet unless i got a fool proof rooting method.. Im not trying to go thru the bricking of this one to.. any input is thankful
