[Q] Will updating wipe my root? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there !
I've rooted my Desire HD and installed the engineering version of HBOOT and have S-OFF. I have NOT installed a custom recovery or custom ROM though.
If I update my Desire HD's software in the future (using the official updates), will it wipe my root and S-OFF?
Thanks,
Alex

Sorry, bump

[Q] Install 1.72 RUU

Hey guys .. I have a question, I'm still on rum 1.32 ... with eng s-off and and CID1111111. I wonder if I install 1.72 RUU rom if I will be able to go back to 1.32 again?
It was this RUU I planned to install: RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R2_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF_release_163262_signed
Why do you want to update? If you want 1. 72 then just use Leedroid's or Android Revolution. Then flash the right radio to acompaign the rom. Done and you will be in 1,. 72.

Make sure you use a rom without a2sd or data2sd.
Also are you rooted?

You should head over to their IRC channel: #alpharev on Freenode.

So this one should not work?
InsertCoin 2.0.1 DATA2EXT (it's an HD rom)
No, no data2sd for sure.

you have to either flash a stock rom (without data2xxx or a2sd+) or run a RUU, root again and go s-off
As written on alpharev site, you should use a stock rooted Rom to apply s-off. During the s-off process your /data partition is used and should be save accessable. Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773997
1. make a Nandroid of your installed Rom.
2. Then flash the stock rooted one.
3. Reboot
4. Apply s-off
5. Revert your Nandroid
Done!
Read the complete alpharev-site! http://alpharev.nl/

If it's any help I did s-off via CD and used oxygen rom - it took under 10 minutes for the whole thing. You can always change the rom after gaining s-off, although oxygen is a fantastic build!
Thanks everybody for reply so quick and for the help!!

Android 2.3 can be rooted with revolutionary. Under supported devices the desire with bootloader version 1.02.0001 (the bootloader version the desire has after gingerbread update) is listed.

Use irc channel.
Revolutionary only gives s-off. To get root, flash the zip from their documentation page

Flashing Stock Rom

Hi guys, i want to revert back to stock and it's the first time i do this.
i have Trick Droid installed, rooted with ext4 recovery, rooted my phone with AAHK.
I downloaded this RUU: RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_R_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_233505_signed.exe
is this going to be OK or do i need to download another RUU?

Why dont you check it yourself. Just reboot to bootloader and take note of bootloader info. If it written " ace pvt eng/ship s-off" then you are s-off. Better confirm it to avoid problems that may occur during ruu..

Desire HD stock rom.

Hi there (I'm new here), I have a HTC Desire HD with PAC-MAN custom rom. How do I revert to the stock rom?
My phone is S-ON, unlocked bootloader.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app
Hello,
I think that you have to relock the bootloader, you need or not a goldcard, flash a rom (RUU), which has the same hboot version then your DHD or superior.
Wait other opinions.
Is there a way without locking the bootlaoder? Like a .zip I can flash?
Sent from my Desire HD using xda app-developers app
I think that you can install a stock rom in RUU*.exe format ONLY with S-ON DHD and relocked.
If your DHD is unlocked and rooted (S-ON or S-OFF), you can install easly a stock rooted rom (same steps when installing a custom rom).
Thanks I have tried 2 RUU but they dont work!

The hboot version of your phone must be equal or higher then the hboot of the stock rom.
In the past i tried many to can install one:
http://www.androidruu.com/index.php?developer=Ace
How do I see what version is the hboot of the stock rom? ( Sorry dumb question)

Really I don't known !
