I am getting this error when ever I try to do a nand restore : Error: run ' nandroid-mobile.sh restore ' via adb!
I am running amon ra 1.8, I have the latest sprint lovers installed running 3.70, new radios, pri 1.90. Hboot 79. I've succesfully backed up and restored nands in the past but now I get this error. I've tried to backup and then immediately try to restore the backup and I get the same error so its not a corrupt backup. I have more than 6gb available on my sd card and am fully charged. I've looked in other threads and haven't found an answer. Any help is appreciated since I'm flying without a net when I flash if I can't restore my nand.
Run the command from adb shell, and it'll tell you what's wrong. Duh.
In other words, do what it tells you to do. Is it really so hard to follow instructions?
Hey man had the same problem. I was on miui and I went back to sense to update profile and flashed the new radio combo so I made a nandroid of miui first and then when I tried to restore that same back up I got the same error that you got. I'm not positive but I think that it has something to do with flashing the new radio and then switching to aosp rom. I ended up having to reflash miui and then every thing went back to working normally.

nandroid won't work if battery is low, I think if it's less than 30% charged, might want to try charging it before restoring to see if it helps...
I've had this happen with a full battery. The couple of times I had it happen I just wiped cache and dalvik. Rebooted back up, then gone back into recovery and then was able to restore the nand backup. Might give that a shot.

I had the same problem and what nefariouss is saying might work. Also, once i wiped several times and then completely turned the phone off and booted back into recovery and then it would restore. Another time i reflashed the rom that i was trying to restore and once it booted i went back to recovery, wiped all and then it would restore. Hope that helps. Just keep messing with it. I know its a pain but eventually it will restore.

if your sd card didnt partion properly this will happen.
save everything on your sd.
reboot into recovery
repartition sd card.
read that a few people running clockwork recovery have this issue frequently.

If you are trying to flash a file in recovery that has spaces in it, it will not flash and will give you that error. so 'Fresh Evo.zip' won't work, but FreshEvo.zip will work.
FML, ignore this post please. I was a bit stupid.
Sorry for bumping, I have the same problem on my Optimus One p500
Sorry for bumping but I'm really worried about my phone. I have the same problem on my Optimus One and I've tried stuff mentioned above with NO success. Is there maybe another way to restore stock Froyo or to get this working?? I'm a total noob by the way..

Download and flash this. It is a rooted stock rom (Froyo) that has NOT been deodexed. In other words, it is THE stock HTC sense rom (3.70) that will allow you to maintain root privileges. While in recovery, wipe EVERYTHING in the wipe menu EXCEPT the SD card BEFORE flashing.

This happened to me and I tried everything listed. Reformatted my SD card. Copied everything back and nand restore finished first time. Polly unrelated but the only thing different was I had upgraded my RA recovery after I had made the backup.

Same thing happened to me after I updated Amon Ra recovery after doing a nandroid backup. Desire wouldn't boot and got stuck on white screen. Tried to do the backup using ADB but each time I got to the last step it failed. So I tried clearing Dalvik cache etc and finally wiped my card using recovery. After a couple of attempts, I was able to restore the last nandroid backup. Big relief.
i need help!!! i have the same problem of the whole error run nandroid-mobile.sh.. via adb. ive scoured the internet and havent solved my problem. i tried doing the cmd prompt thing and i found the latest backup, put into the cmd prompt but this is what i got.

I was facing similar problem but thanks to @hecklbrg, It did the trick. Cheers.

I rooted using unrevoked3 and did the nand unlock. Did a nandroid backup and installed the latest cyanogenmod to play. I've done this before and gone back to my previous rom using nandroid restore. The only thing different is I looked at ROM manager this time and it asked me if I wanted to install clockwork recovery (which I thought I already had so I didn' think much about installing). Now when I try to do a nandroid restore I get errors, and I can no longer boot into cyanogenmod. I can get to the restore screen and it seems to find my nandroid backups, but when I attempt to apply them I get "Error while flashing boot image". Now when I do a full bootup it goes straight to bootloader. I don't seem to be able to do anything from recovery with my nandroid without errors.
I was able to get back
I honestly don't know how I did it. Perhaps I wiped data and it was able to get back to a clockworkmod backup I had previously done. Regardless, I am back and can flash again. Kinda scary though. I am a computer guy, but new to android dev. My advice is to read, read, and read more. You need to understand the steps, not just do them.

always wipe data & cache before flashing again, that's why its all over the forums...MAKE SURE TO WIPE PRIOR TO INSTALLING ANYTHING...glad it worked out for you tho
I'm also rooted via unrevoked3.1, but I haven't unlocked nand yet. I also tried restoring from a nandroid backup (after clearing data and cache), and, though it said it completed successfully, when I booted, it was just the stock setup that was on the phone the day I bought it.
I assume it's because I don't have nand unlocked-can I ask what method you used to unlock nand?
use toast part 2 ...
Hey guys, ive read every solution to Error: run ' nandroid-mobile.sh restore ' via adb! hero, eris etc whatever phone that has this problem and no solutions work. ive run the restore through adb and restores just fine. but that is a pain in the ass. i wanna restore via recovery. sometimes ill be running a rom and need to switch to run gps or 4g etc. ive partitioned the sd card. ive made a new restore of current rom and flashed a different rom and restored and works just fine. but what about all of my other nandroid back ups i put them back on and get that error. even my original before i started rom flashing. should i unroot and flash it to stock etc and start fresh? sorry if its just ramblings and not really questions but dont now what to ask. i just want my backups to work. ps have over 7 gb free and battery is full and plugged in when tring to restore. ive flashed restores with alot less

I usually got that issue when one of two things happened. The nandroid backup I did was corrupted, or never backed up right. Or two, when I changes the name, and added spaces or certain symbols it borked it.
If you haven't changed it, it may just not have nandroid backedup correctly. If you are able to restore via ADB then do so and renandroid.
Did you use illegal characters in your file name? Did you try to restore a clockwork backup with amon ra or vice versa?
ive only used amon ra from the very beginning. i will try clock just cuz i can. and nope all the backups ive tried are original names. i have renamed some in the past and they have restored fine before. but ones im trying are original. i cant even flash the first nandroid i made and ive gone to that one bunch times?! idk cuz this randomly started happening.

what version of Amon-Ra are you using? If your not using 2.3 go flash it immediately and try again.
Oops... something went wrong! Please check the recovery log!
Here is what happened...
1. Made nandroid backup of my Calkulin ROM using AMON_RA recovery
2. Flashed MIUI which I used for couple days
3. Decide to restore my phone... got error from the top (Oops something went wrong)
4. Decide to flash same Calkulin ROM version that I had before
5. Tried restore backup (thinking - I am on same rom should not be a problem)
6. Got error msg from top
7. Wipe everything
8. Flash Amon_RA again
9. Tried restore.. error
10. Flash Calkulin again
11. Tried restore.. have same error
Now... how do I restore my backup?
Check your memory available on your sdcard...may not be enough space for the backup. Or, the restore file might be corrupted.
4.36 GB free space... I used this backup for restore before and it worked. Now it doesn't.
Let me try other restore file (i have 3 backup's) Will post results.

2nd backup worked but I still want last one... Might have idea what went wrong...
Testing something
Backup that worked was untouched and never used. Other one that was used at least 3 times now it doesn't working and it was renamed. I tried to use original name but even that did not fix anything. Will keep trying
RA sometimes glitches out, try flashing clockwork then back to RA.

Tried.. same thing again. I guess 1 backup is not to be trusted and I should be happy that I have any. Will try all of them now.
what does the recovery log show? You can find it at /cache/recovery/recovery.log or by using the move to sd option from the recoveries other menu.
ive had this error when my battery was low

Strange, /cache/recovery is empty, nothing inside.
What have you figured out? I'm still having the same problem every time I try to do a nandroid back up it tells me Oops...something went wrong, to check recovery log!
What could it be and how do I fix it so I can do a back up??
Nothing, I had another (older) backup and used that one. Only I can suggest that:
1. you make sure that Amon RA is same version
2. don't trust to one backup in future

you can also check you recovery log as someone else mentioned. in amon ra/other/move recovery.log to sd. use any file manager to open it. it should tell you what maybe happening.
This isn't like some of the other nandroid fail threads i've encountered.
I had a full nandroid backup of my tmobile g2 (eng hboot) and I lost that device. I got an exact replacement, rooted it (no eng hboot), installed rom manager only and flashed clockwork. I then copied my nandroid backup to the clockwork/backups directory and did a restore.
The phone booted successfully with cyanogen 7 nightly 22 flashed but the only problem is that it seems to have done a fresh install...as in there are no apps, no data, just cyanogen 7 nightly 22. It appears it didn't restore anything except the rom itself. Any ideas? thanks in advance.
ps. ive done multiple data wipes, and tried 2 different nandroid backup files on the new phone.
Did you have darktremors a2sd installed on the old ROM? CWM3 seems to have an issue for some with seeing the sd-ext partition and won't back it up. So when you select 'restore' in CWM it *successfully* completes the nandroid restore correct, no errors? It would be odd for it to give you a 'restore complete' message if it ran into any errors.
pretty sure I don't have a2sd installed on the old rom. first time i'm hearing of it. I don't recall getting any errors after restoring the backup but I will try again and double check. I also have much older backups that I can try to restore and see if those go through
Well I think this needs more attention if it's really not restoring the nandroids fully. Seems like it's restoring the system.img and whatnot just not the data.img. Maybe try it with ADB and see if it works. I've never had to do it that way but I know it can be done, you may have to run it in a shell.
I tried restoring a nandroid backup from February, which I believe was backed up with an older version of clockwork, and it was completely successful. This tells me that either the new clockwork is not backing up correctly or it's getting corrupted.
I then tried restoring 3 different backups and they did not give me any errors but failed to restore my data. hmmm
I have s-off and am permanently rooted. I am able to flash and run such roms as CM7.1 and RMK Gingersense from the original .zip file without a problem. However I have been unable to restore a single backup made with ClockworkMod Recovery.
For example, once I flash Gingersense I am unable to restore a backup to CM7.1. If I flash CM7.1 I am unable to restore a backup to Gingersense. In fact, I can't even successfully restore a previous backup of the same rom. I have reloaded CMR several times.
Every time I try to restore a backup, when I reboot I freeze on the white HTC screen. I have tried wiping everything before restoring, but that doesn't help.
It's a pain not being able to play with new roms and variations without being able to painlessly restore from a backup.
Any ideas?

Here are a couple of thoughts.
1 - Is your SD Card full? I had been flashing ROMs and doing back ups a lot recently. As I flashed a ROM to give it a try, I noticed that my back up went very quick. I thought nothing of it, but when I restored that back up, it did not work and caused problems. Looking into things, their was not enough room on the SD Card for the back up to complete all partitions, so it did what it could and finished. You may have several back ups that are incomplete.
2 - You are not waiting long enough for the phone to boot. I have had my phone stuck on the HTC screen for a minute or more before it finally starts the boot animation. If the HTC animation keeps starting over, you have a boot loop, but if it is just on the screen, it may just be taking longer to boot.
I hope this helps.
I had some similar issues at one point. I would try deleting the entire clockwork folder from your SD card and let it recreate when you go back into cwr. That's what worked for me. I believe it was due to some older files that were left behind from prior versions of cwr.

Sounds like the same problem I had. Which was a bad SD card format. You can try to format your SD card via Windows and start all over. One thing to note is when you hook your phone up to your computer and mount it that you must use the safely remove device icon in the system tray. This will cause many problems for you if you don't. Trust me, I learned the hard way!
Thanks for suggestions, but I don't think we've got it yet.
Plenty of room for backups (more than 7 GB) on SD card. Have looked at backup files and am pretty sure they are complete. Backups take the usual amount of time, but I notice the failed restores go more quickly than full new installs.
Always use safely disconnect to disconnect from computer (rarely mount to computer anyway - files are usually sent to phone through Dropbox).
Suppose I can reformat SD card, but what a hassle to copy/paste everything back on.
Will try deleting CMR folder, but don't think there could be vestiges from previous versions since this is the first/only version installed since root.
Any other ideas from the incredibly bright and helpful people on this forum?
Have you tried reflashing recovery?

This is your best solution. If it doesn't work then you might have a bad SD card. It is a hassle to format the card but if you want it to work then it's the best solution.
Just a follow-up for anyone who lands on this thread because they have a similar problem.
Following the advice of spizzo03, I completely deleted ClockworkMod Recovery -- the app, the paid license app and the folder on the SD card. I then reinstalled just the free app of CMR from the Market.
Testing by trying to restore one of my backups ... IT NOW WORKS. Goes through the entire restore process -- system, data, cache, etc. -- whereas before it used to stop while restoring system.
Thanks to all who offered suggestions.

Another one here. I was having issues as well restoring backups and simply wiping the sdcard's clockworkmod folder was enough for me.
