Most phones use 3M tape to hold the screen into place. Some phone repair places just use Gel style krazy glue.
A friend and I replaced the digitizer on his TP2 a while back. We used 3M tape. As you may have noticed, the surface area to apply the tape on is VERY narrow. We cut the tape to size with an X-acto knife. It was a ridiculously time-consuming and frustrating process. If I had to do it again I would select a gel-style glue as suggested by Nighthawk243. Of course, use in very small amounts so it won't spill into the visible screen area when you compress the pieces together.
Alternatively, email the eBay seller and see if they have a one-piece, pre-cut adhesive backing for sale. Waiting for it in the mail may be well worth foregoing the frustration of the aforementioned methods.
hot glue works. It's cheap and it's non-conductive. doubt it gets too hot
here is some tape on amazon. Really cheap and plenty to do multiple digitizers.
Try This!

Question for those doing it time after time....
after you pull a digitizer off, and scrape the old adhesive, in regards to the
original its a foam sticky, what do you use to fill the gap from the old foam adhesive.
All I can find is some 3m adhesive cut outs, and those are thin, thus when applying the digitizer it drops down below flush, causing the underside of digitizer and the lcd to touch, making a "wet like" spot.
Is there some other adhesive that is thicker?
Pm me... ill get you hooked up
NO NO NO....PM ME and I'll hook you up!!..hahahahahhaha
Hey, noob here, I purchased an S3 with a cracked screen in order to replace it. Taking off the screen wasnt fun but my problem is that I didnt manage to leave the glue from the previous screen which, from what I have been reading, is necessary in order to keep the new screen sticking to the device. I called samsung but they could not help me with any work short of $170. Is there is anything on the market that can replace the glue?
Thanks!
It's not possible to have the screen exactly as before if you just remove the glass. You can order 2mm double sided tape by 3M which goes around the border of the glass. To get the adhesive between the glass and digitizer you would need to have it vacuumed in.
From personal experience I can tell you that your screen will still work, however there is a small space between the glass and digitizer. This does mean that the touchscreen isn't quite as responsive as it was before.
The only other option is buying the glass/digitizer/LED assembly, which is about $170 to buy. If you do choose this option you should pay a little extra and get the one that comes with the bezel and everything as it will save you a lot of time and messing around.
Hi All,
I dropped my note 2 two weeks ago and the screen was cracked.
The touch screen is still functional, so I ordered a replacement of the glass, followed the iFixit tutorial to disassemble it, used a heat gun to peel it off and applied the replacement on top of the digitizer.
However, the original adhesive was sticked to the old glass and was not possible to recycle. I tried to find a 3M sticker on eBay for Note 2, but there is none. I'm wondering whether I can put some kind of liquid glue between the digitizer and the glass, or a bigger 3M sticker then cut it with knife.
Thank you for your help!

Look for double sided tape. I think there's a link to the type you need on. Ifixit

More specifically, 3M 300LSE. You can buy a sheet for 5-ish dollars on ebay that has enough material to do a few phones.
You can use the glass for a template/stencil. Also don't forget to cut out the speaker/microphone holes. You wouldn't believe how it can mute the ear speaker. Or how hard it is to figure out that you've done that and not somehow left the speaker unplugged...
Thank you so very much for the info!
Story: Friend cracked phone. Tec school classmate replaced the screen. She got hair and dust under the screen, and I mean enough to have the screen be pressed down to distort color a lot. I took my screen off, cleaned it, and I need the adhesive replaced. The screen holds but I can still peel it off using the speaker gap. I want it stuck on like new again.
What adhesive size do I buy? And preferably from ebay.
This is the adhesive I used last time I changed my screen. 2mm.

After the digitizer connector is snapped into place and screwed down, is it wise to test it before applying adhesive or does that little strip that sticks out to the side (for grounding) have to be firmly placed/taped down first? I basically want to be sure the screen works before adhesive and tape are applied. Good or bad idea?
Update: Dry fit went well for testing. Used a precision-cut adhesive and peeled off the protective plastic after testing to seat the new screen replacement. Cracked But Not Forgotten brand. Zero problems.
