Hello all- I have been trying to install CWM on my SGS for almost 2 days now and am out of my mind. I have installed the "update" .zip file and gone through the motions but keep getting an "installation aborted" message. I have tried using ROM manager and get an error message.
I just want to install Darky's 7.0 ROM but just can't get the ClockworkMod on my mobile first.
Does anyone know what I can do, I'm banging my head against the wall
Thanks very much for any help !!!
Cheers, LL
Have you rooted the phone first?
Hi uk... Thanks for your quick reply;
yes I have rooted the phone. I keep getting an 'installation aborted" and somethin g anout an unverifiable signature for the .zip file !
Cheers, LL-
I guess I can root it again and see what happens.
Can you post your current firmware version and what root method you are using, and do you have Superuser installed?
Okay I just realised that when I put new firmware on yesterday it took away my root an/or superuser permission thing.
I am now ;
Firmware 2 2 1
Baseband i9000xxjpx
I am now assuming I did not back something up ?
Cheers, uk.... LL-
I am on JPU, very similar to JPX... I used Chainfires CF-Root to root the phone, then installed Superuser, then installed ROM Manager, then run ROM Manager, grant it permissions, then select Flash ClockworkMod Recovery, Select i9000 and job done...
Cheers for your help uk... I am working on it right now and will report. Im hoping its all good !!!
Thanks again, LL-
if you have recovery 3e you can't install unsigned update.zip.
you need first to revert to recovery 2e
CF-Root by chainfire adds R2e, so if you use it to root you will be good to go

Uninstall your old rom manager because it doesnt support g2, download the new one, flash clockwork mod-select g2 as your device- wait for it to download and flash he recovery. Btw i would suggest you click fix permissions first before doing any of that

1. Is the procedure with ROM Manager safe?
2.Do i need to do something else after geting perma root and s-off to install clockwork mod ? (still don't know what for is Engineering HBoot)
3. After instaling clockwork mod or after rooting I will stop geting official updates ?

Lots of q's
Ok
1.Clockwork mod is very safe
2.No. If you have Perma-rooted your phone you are good to go
3.After installing it you can receive OTA updates if you are using STOCK rom
but its best to not update via OTA at risk of losing root. I was already had
temp root when we got the OTA in US and I had no problem but be warned
4.The free version is fine. But its always good to buy the paid version for added benefits and to help dev out

Sometimes it takes a couple of times before recovery sticks, so if you get the red triangle just reflash the recovery again untill it sticks.

Eng. Hboot is not required to flash a custom rom, but obviously perm-root is. Im guessing you got that quote "Perm Root with hboot-eng.....is needed to flash a custom ROM (still REQUIRED for the moment)" from the CM7 Nightly thread, but there is a way to flash CWM3 without an ENG. Hboot ( it requires terminal emulator) and also the CM7 nightly rom.
Any idea how to install CM7 from stock less risky way then hboot ? How about flashing CM 6 and upgrading to 7 ?

If the HBOOT required comment was for just CWM3, then there are guides already out there (including one stickied in this forum):

Then just use CWM3 to flash CM7 like normal...

PS : I found it on : http://androidforums.com/gio-all-things-root/408235-rooting-samsung-gio-ginderbread-2-3-4-a.html
I used this for rooting my stock 2.3.6 (see attachment)
Roots, installs superuser and busybox.
Worked for me, but not sure if it works for S5660L
If you want to know where I got it from, pm me, can't post links yet, quite annoying...
You should go in the recovery mode to run the update.zip and not though the file explorer.
To come in recovery mode, turn off the phone -->press the main button (in middle) + right button (to turn on/off the phone) keep both buttons until the recovery mode shows. Scroll down by using the left side button on phone (volume control) and choose install zip from sdcard by pressing the main button. Then reboot the phone and its rooted.

You can use Root Explorer,Astra or other similar app for unrooting, it should be mounted as R/W
go to: system/app, delete SuperUser.apk
reboot

Hello everybody
I have tried all the ways to have my root access in my samsung GIO 2, but nothing works..
Model Number :GT-S5660
Android System : 2.3.6
I think it's the same model as the others here.. But When I try to root with a file update.zip, it doesn't work, with the file RootGalaxyGio.zip (this one of this topic) it's the same case...
I install RootChecker and it says me that I haven't the root access.. And If I try to install "SuperSU" to move the apps, it says me that "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!"
I I really don't know What I could do to have my root access.....
Thank's a lot for your answers

Hi,
I apologize if I use the wrong term in advance.
I rooted my HTC One a few month back following this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2473644
It has been working fine, I found out all of the sudden the phone is unrooted, it says "There is no SU binary installed", also, it failed to install OTA 4.3.
NOTE: There was a minor OTA a few weeks ago, I did update it.
I was wondering if someone could give me some directions. thank you
Did you install a custom recovery? That will cause the 4.3 OTA to fail. It will also let you flash the SuperSU or koush's superuser zip which should then restore your root access.
I don't have the ability to post a link yet, but if you search for Chainfire's SuperSu, you should find a page on XDA for 1.86. Download the zip to your One, flash it in recovery, and you should have root back!
Thank you for the reply. "I think" I found the thread you are talking about.
A stupid question, how do I "flash it in recovery"? thank you

Assuming you've installed a custom recovery, here's what you'll need to do. First, load up the bootloader, then use Vol+Down/Up to select Recovery. Hit the Power button to select it. Once that's loaded, you should see an option either for Install or Install Zip from sd card. Select that, browse to where you saved the zip file on your phone, and select it. And that should be it!
If you don't get some sort list of options when you select Recovery from the bootloader, you'll probably want to install either TWRP or ClockworkMod Touch. You can find those in the Original Android Development section of the forum here. Right now I'm running TWRP but I like them both.
Have fun!
I have offloaded an iphone 5s to delve into the fun world of rooting android, I did so 1st with the cyanogenmod website,
then dared to try a Filipino stock firmware (I9505XXUFNBE_I9505OLBFNB3_I9505XXUFNBE_HOME.tar.md5) to try and get full use of the camera (specifically HDR) using Odin, again a breeze... BUT not being satisfied I asked google how to get rid of yellow triangle, and use super user rights to hopefully get total stock running so I can finally d/load Barclay banking apps (pingit etc,) just to see if it can be done : )
so I d/loaded both triangle away & SuperSu but triangle away says... superUser access is needed, but could not be acquired. are you rooted and did you give permission.
so... I runSuperSu and that says, There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSu cannot install it. This is a problem?
if you just upgraded to android 4.3 you need to manually re-root consult the relevant forums for your device.
so I'm hoping you guys could give me the right pointers please : )
look forward to coming back for info, cheers : )

CWM(clock work mod) the custom recovery you used to flash Cyanoginmod
you go into recovery and flash SuperSU
if this is too complicated for you I suggest you to go to the general section and start reading to understand everything before you screw up your phone
I keep having this problem. I just tried both KINGROOT and CF-AUTO ROOT.
After doing this whole process through ODIN. I then try to flash the latest TWRP from their website : dl.twrp.me/jfltetmo/twrp-3.2.0-0-jfltetmo.img.tar.html
Then after that finishes, I try to boot into recovery and it gives me the message: recovery is not seandroid enforcing and just sits there.
I have a tmobile s4.
and I also checked if I am indeed rooted by using an app from the play store to check root and it shows Im rooted.
Any help would be great.
Root isn't needed to flash a twrp.
Tried flashing the latest stock rom and twrp without rooting the phone?

Yup didn't work after trying it all the only thing that did work was SkipSoft Unified Android Toolkit and it was the easiest thing I ever used.

I have the exact problem, can you kindly explain in details how you went about it? I already downloaded SkipSoft.
Same issues here, buddy.
I tried to work on solving it out for approximately 8 hours and still no sign of success. Tried to reflash stock OS back on the phone via ODIN and it went successful. Tried CF-Auto-root file and it went through successful. But when it only came to the TWRP file, it went successful onto flashing on ODIN's side, but now something is interfering with the boot up process onto TWRP now. Hopefully there's a alternative towards this issue, since i've been wanting to reflash a Nougat OS onto the device.
Edit: I give credit to @Krappa420 for the mention of "SkipSoft Unified Android Toolkit" because i just installed the program on my laptop now and it went successful. But since i already had other materials pre-installed, some others with ODIN and ADB installed can just download this TWRP version here: https://dl.twrp.me/jfltexx/twrp-2.7.0.0-jfltexx.img.html
Edit #2: Seems that the TWRP version is too old to flash some of the newer OS's, such as nougat itself. Will find a way to update TWRP without breaking the boot up process, like the past attempts
Edit #3: After fiddling with TWRP versions 2.7.0.0 and up, i managed to get it capped up to 3.1.1 any future versions will most likely not work, so you're capped at 3.1.1 Here's the link for flashing it with ODIN: https://dl.twrp.me/jfltexx/twrp-3.1.1-0-jfltexx.img.tar.html
So you twrp 3.1.1 and it will work right
I having the same issue

It wouldn't really matter what order you're using.
You can use CF-Auto-Root to root it for you while you have stock recovery still, and after you can flash to TWRP and use a custom recovery afterwards
Or you can flash TWRP first and flash a SuperSU zip file afterwards and it'll give you root while maintaining to have TWRP installed.
But to sum it up, it wouldn't matter what order you choose. Help yourself

Before anything, try to install the SuperSU app over on the play store, if it says you're not rooted, you may have to restart the whole process within TWRP and reflash the SuperSU Zip file.

Yeah try to re-flash the ROM again but this time flash magisk through TWRP since SuperSU is being trippy on your S4
Thank you for the help
Dummy me I found out from reading other forums you have to go in to tools and enable root after going in to recovery and flash the root file in the extra section.
Every thing works
