[Q] How to go back to stock? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So i got my cousin to flash my phone(i had no idea how to do that) with the HTC sence rom (Virtuous v0.7.0) (vision) how do i go back to stock? i love HTC sence but i cant connect to hspa+ and we have a strong signal here my brother and sister in law both a g2 and constantly get mind blowing speeds and to add the tower is 2 blocks down my street!! so i don't have crappy coverage.
could someone give me a step by step instruction on how to go back to stock?
oh and my phones perm rooted if that helps any .

Did you do a backup of your ROM via Clockwork before you flashed the new ROM ? If so, you can simply restore that.
If you don't have a backup, then what ROM do you want to go back to exactly ? There are loads of stock ROMs for G2/Desire Z.

I don't think so. And is their Any rom that is 100% true stock?

That's not a stock ROM though, that's a custom ROM based on stock.
If you really want to go back to stock, the pre-OTA stock G2 ROM is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788489 . But you will need to go through the hex-editor procedures to downgrade, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831398

Stock Rom

Well Im having problems with my current rom and i would like to go back to the stock rom. Now I went here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685835 and tried the .exe and the zip but none of them work. Im currently using MIUI V 12.3 final. Since that thread is more than 6 months old there has to be some other ways. This is killing me any help would be great.
Do you want to keep root? If not, just run one of the recent ruu's.
If you do want to keep root, just download the sprint lovers rom, and follow the instructions in the thread. It's that simple.
Does anybody use nandroid anymore?
Always nandroid the stock rom after its rooted and has a custom recovery.

i actually had 3 or 4 back ups of the original rooted stock but when i went to restore of them they werent there. I either deleted by accident or something else happens. i always back up my roms.

Now, this is a simple question, but I'm not going to flame. If you want to UNroot then this is what you want (this is the most current 3.70.651.1 software)

You could of went to the android sub forums and searched. You don't need to unroot your phone. Just flash which everyone you choose.

I also have tried custom ROMS and now back in Stock ROM
If you have ROM Manager installed, then you can easily recover your original stock rom (remain rooted). But this is the case where you already made a Nandroid Back up before flashing Custom ROM.
If you cannot go that way, You can try flashing the full stock ROM (RUU Files, not PC10IMG). I never tried this, but what I understand from the threads I read, It will unroot your device. You might have to re-root again later (if you want to)
Cheers..
Ha ironically I recently made the same move. Rooted/stock, got tired of the little annoyances. Vanilla wins for me right now.

Ditto that. Too many issues with either CM7 or HTC Sense based ROMs. I really enjoyed using Virtuous for a long time, but having random hard reboots in version 1.0.2 pushed me away from it and back to stock (with root). Everything works, and that's what is most important to me.

4.53.651.1 install after revolutionary

Anyone else trying to update stock to 4.53.651.1 but it fails to install? If you take the ota after revolutionarys unlock I can not install the update. I believe this is due to the hboot version. Which seems to be how they got around the locking in he first place.
Also where is the ota on the phone? I want to pull it off the phone and try a re ruu and install it again.

Have you checked Development section for the latest stock rom. Also why would you try to do an OTA after rooting. It may take away your root. Just wait it out or try a custom rom that probably has more than the stock 4.53 rom.
You rooted to get away from stock why go back when you now have options better than stock.
Rooted Stock Roms link here
Getting root back isn't a problem. I want a nandroid backup with the.latest. the original reason for me to root wasn't to run a custom Rom. It was to remove the extra bloatware.
But after being in the EVO for a few months now I am going to play with the other roms. I just wanted to see if the most recent update had any changes worth staying on stock.
I will most likely be going to cm7. Since that's what I have on my craptivate.

ok but still why unroot? Just download a rooted version and if you like remove the bloatware. going back to stock you loose options and gain bloat.
Stock rooted is better than Stock non rooted....all day everyday
The issue is your custom recovery, not custom hboot. Sprint OTAs depend on the stock recovery, which in layman's terms is a "fake" recovery. It can't be used by the user but the recovery knows what to do with the OTA packages.
Look around for a PC36IMG.zip of the stock Sprint recovery.img. I saw one the other day in the Dev section.
And the latest OTA is rootable, just to clear that up.

Oh and to answer your where does it download question...I believe in /data/tmp or /data/local/tmp, but i am not 100% sure. It believe it would be in one of the tmp folders for sure though.

[Q] Original ROM?

Okay, well I tried getting a friend into rooting and Custom Roms, but It seems as though he would rather just have the original stock rom. So basically the way the phone comes out of the box. Unfortunatley he lost the SD card with the back-up soooo? Does anybody know where I can find the Stock Rom so I can flash it? Thank :s
Just give him like Sprint lovers or Fresh and he won't know the difference

Sold phone, want it back to stock Touchwiz

I sold my Note 2 for Sprint and I now just want to flash a stock Touchwiz ROM or near stock at least. I haven't used the phone in a few months and i've looked over the development forum but i'm unclear on what to flash. I remember seeing a stock ROM but I can no longer find it. I am currently on Dirty Unicorns 4.4.4, baseband L900VPAMA7. All I want is the easiest way to send my phone to the buyer with a stock or near stock experience. I want the easiest avenue because I do not want to brick the phone right before I send it out. I also have a nandroid of my first stock backup of Android 4.1.1 which I don't know if it is safe to flash. Can someone please steer me in the right direction? It would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the response.
From what I gathered and correct me if i'm wrong, simply flashing the MC2 Stock zip, it will unroot the phone and take me back to stock (what version of Android does it downgrade to? Will the phone be able to receive the updated versions of Touchwiz?). If I want to stay rooted, then i flash the root.zip file right after i flash the MC2 Stock zip? (Would this be able to get updates to Touchwiz?)
Are there any other alternatives to getting a stock experience?
I did this about 2 month ago and it went back to stock unroot...yes u will be able to update... also it u want to stay rooted then flash the root file right after before again before rebooting and it will stay rooted ...no if stay rooted u will not be able to get update.... If u reall wanted to stay rooted there's a few stock rooted rom .. link provided

If you have taken the ne2 ota or flashed it with odin DO NOT FLASH that file. If you have not taken the ne2 update than it is ok to use.
