Get rid of the app icons on the notification bar on Virtous? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey yall, I just got my G2 and I've already modded it out the wazoo, the only question I have at the moment is how do I get rid of the currently running apps on the top of the notification bar in Virtuous? It's really bugging me.

Not much of a sense fan here, but I'm assuming you have to turn off notifications for each app inside the app settings...

Not the notifications...this rom has a kind of task killer built into the notifications window

I've seen this same question asked several times, but have yet to see an answer posted. So I will go out on a ledge and say you can't.

Im running Virtuous 0.8.1 and dont have any apps in my notification bar, are you sure its not an app you installed apart from the Virtuous rom, there is no built in task killer that ive found apart from the andriod "Manage applications" or the "Running services" in the menu/settings/applications drawer, but both of these do not put anything in the notification bar.

He's talking about the row of recently used apps in the pull-down notification bar. This is a 'feature' of the new version of Sense - the only way to get rid of it would be for the ROM devs to remove it.
I'm sure you could tinker with something like the framework or something to disable it, but I wouldn't know the first thing about it. There's no easy way to do it, basically.

Oh, yeah, I have those too, dont really seem to bother me though, not a task killer just a link to recently used apps like you said.

Ugh....It's really bothering me...enough to possibly go back to CM6

Like I said in my previous post, about there are others with the same issue (doesn't bother me), but if enough of you contact HTC about this, they could possibly add an option to show or not in later releases.

Make sure in the stock app and in settings, notifications and sound that stock notifications are off

thanks guys, no bueno. It's very strange, I went and changed the sounds in the stock notifications, and turned them off again, and it still gives me the stock notification, with the stock notification sound. It's like it's coming from some where else but where? This just started about a week ago, I don't understand because I've been using handcent forever

just figured it out, part of a beautiful widgets update pack had a sms widget, didn't even realize it. I actually wiped everything, used titanium back up, and added apps one by one texting myself in between each add to find it! I did that 18 times before I got to it. Oh well, it's funny now, but it really pissed me off!

Hey I've found out exactly what widget it is,so no need to answer. For anyone that might have this issue. When you download beautiful widgets they came come with a sms widget also. You have to long press on your screen, select widgets, then scroll down to the beautiful widgets there should be a beautiful widget sms. Select that and then the option should come up which has the notification options you need to turn off.

[Request] Time in Navbar

wile playing with my Gnex phone the following idea poped into my head;
would it not be handy to have the time displayed in the ICS navigation bar, replacing the homekey grafics but not the function...
then you can keep track of time while playing games of running any other fullscreen application where the notificationbar is hidden.
what do you guys think?
I like it

Funny, I just had the same thought and saw this thread.
I would love to see the clock be displayed in the nav bar and persistently. I think it would look sick.
Is this even possible? I wonder ...

It might be. I forgot which rom had this but you were able to put music controls (previous, forward, play/pause) in the navi bar so it might be possible

then the question remains, is there any developer that can make this or is already working on it?

good ideas but i need power menu soft key can use soft key from power menu
>.> Ummm bump? I like this idea too. perhaps not limit it to time but serve as a ticker?
I.e, normally it shows time, but it will show notification icons somewhere and a swipe will reveal the notification centre?
EDIT: On the top of my mind... we probably could get a couple of apps/mods to get something similar:
* There are full screen mods
* GMD gesturecontrol works on Gnex last time I tried.I suppose you can assign swipes and gestures to mimic the navbar buttons
* Only thing I don't really get is how we'd get a clock or notification area to show permanently at the bottom. Perhaps there are some apps that do this, Notifierpro plus does notification.. not time though.
* Paranoid android tablet UI, hide/remove the nav bar buttons, and try to move the notification area to the centre. Something like that...
There is a ROM that has all the features you are looking for:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1729942
However the base is CM9. I hope it will be upgraded to JB soon. I use it since a month and I prefer it over any other ROM.

[REQUEST] Stock notification bar- No scrolling

I would like to ask if any forum members have the knowledge or ability to modify the current set of toggles in the notifications bar so that they do not scroll when you first pull down the bar. It may be a minor annoyance, but the precious few seconds i waste by clicking on mobile data whilst waiting for it to scroll across to Wi-Fi is a killer
Regards
Jack

How about just change the toggles order? The scroll is actually kind of cool to me.
You can follow guide here to change the toggles order. Or you can just flash my theme, I do got one theme which is same stock look, just only change the order.
Unfortunately I don't want to just rearrange the icons and would like to stop the scrolling animation all together.
(Bump)
If you flash a 15 Toggle mod it will disable the automatic scrolling of the notification items.
If you are on a deodexed LF6, here are two options for you:
Stock look
Darker look

In on omega 6.0 based on LF2 will it still work? Or are they that specific to version ?
You know what, I find the same thing annoying. Would love to disable it as well.
I'm running a rooted stock. Don't wanna change the order, I like the look of the stock toggles, so not really interested in changing them. Just want the damned scrolling to stop!!!
Here i thought I was going to be the only one annoyed by this. Would definitely love a way to just get it to load up at the first 5 without having to animate the little scrollback
This scrolling is the first thing i noticed and it annoyed me quite a bit. Keep hitting the wrong button while trying to enable Wifi as used to the quick press on the S2.
Does anyone know of a fix for this?
If not, I think there's a gap for an app!

if you're really bothered and this is a real issue for you - Omega 7.1 does NOT scroll the toggles when pulling down the notification bar.
edit: didn't read above properly... seems this is because of the 15 toggles mod.

use the 15 toggles, then it won't scroll.
Could I use that on the stock rom?

How to get rid of blinkfeed???

Is there a way to completely disable blinkfeed? It's a cool feature but I'm pretty sure it sucks up your battery also, I don't want it to keep updating and using up my data

You can install a different launcher like nova.
I thought of that but wouldn't blinkfeed still technically be running in the background?

+1 all around. I looked all over the HTC One in AT&T forums and it seems like nobody has figured it out yet - there is a team dedicated to removing it though.
Will running a de-sensed ROM remove it?
i wouldn't mind having blinkfeed as a widget...
I had the Sprint HTC One since it was released and up until about a week ago when I switched to Verizon, there was still no way to get rid of it unless you use a different launcher or AOSP.
This guy somehow removed it in his Rom. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2420462 I would be interested in how as well.
There are multiple mods to remove BF on the GSM One, but you have to be rooted because you're modifying system files to do it.
Gotta love this Verizon board, almost 99 percent of the threads have already been answered almost 6 months ago.
A simple search will bring up countless information on topics just like this.

if rooted, it's actually as easy as change true to false.
but you have to do it before flashing ROM, as we don't have system write

If your phone stock and you can't root or unlock, there is no way to get rid of blinkfeed.
Currently, the only way to "get rid" of it is to not set it up, and set a different screen as your home screen, and then just not scroll to the blinkfeed screen.
That's what I do. I have it set as the screen all the way left, and I pretend it's not there. Occasionally I accidentally scroll to that screen, but since I haven't set up any news sources, it's still on the "getting started" feed.

couldn't agree more.
I left Sense to Touchwiz at Sense 4.1+
I come back and there's no more "Rosie.apk" (aka the launcher)
now we have this mandatory thing called blink feed.
I still don't even know what the launcher is now, Prism.apk?
Install a different launcher. Only leave the the BlinkFeed screen on the stock launcher and if u want to access it ever, create a shortcut by choosing activities, HTC sense, HTC launcher. That's what I did.
