I read somewhere that the 0004 hardware phones have a different camera in them that does not work with some roms. I am looking into rooting soon, possibly today if I can get it to work, if not I will wait for unrevoked's update, I am just wondering what roms work with the camera or at least have a fix.
I really don't need or use sense, but that was when I was on the hero and sense bogged down the phone greatly. I just want a fast performing rom that has themes available and tweaks available.
Thanks for your help!!!
Myn RLS4 works flawlessly
Swyped from Eva running Myn's RLS4 on the Now Network!
It also has a lot of themes añd tweaks in the themes/apps section

It is not the ROM that causes the problem. You can use any Rom you want to but if you want the camera to work you can not use custom kernals. The only ones I know for sure that support the new camera are HYC #15 and #17
15 is actually the newer kernal released with the 3.70 OTA
This applies to later model 003 phones like mine also. It's a real bummer. I'd love to use one of the battery saving kernels, but my camera won't work with any of them. I wish someone would put the mods in the newest #15 kernel...
I say try different kernels and see what works for your Evo. Make sure u do a nand backup first. I personally have an 004 Evo and i have tried various roms and kernels and i havent had an issue yet (besides an occasional reboots) but my camera/camcorder works great....i have used ava v10, myn's 2.2 rsl4 and currently culkins....i have used ziggys, and net's various kernels with no issue either
The ROM's not the problem. I can run any ROM, as long as I replace the kernel with #15 or #17. So far none of the newer modified kernels will work with my camera.

HTC changed the camera in HW version 4, and, unless I've missed something recently, they haven't released the source code for the new kernel. No custom kernels have been able to get the drivers for the new camera, so you're stuck with the official kernel for now.
Try htc #15 that was just released. It should work with all versions now
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk
You need HTC 17 or 15 if you have the newer camera hardware. If your not running a 3.70 rom than you should use #17. If you updated to the latest radios than use #15. If you updated to the latest PRI 1.90 then you should be on a 3.70 based rom or you will have problems.
Are there any Kernels with UV/OC that work with the new Camera Hardware? Any Tweaks? Anything?
I'm Have
HW Ver: 003
HBoot: 2.02
Epson Screen (3 Point Boooo)

No. Toastcfh and Shinzul are working on getting the late-003/004 camera working as soon as they finish polishing up WiMax, which hopefully will be just another week or two. Then all you Sense-lovers can kang the CM source to get the driver, seeing as how HTC is retarded and breaking the law by not releasing their kernel source.

Thanks For The Quick Reply! I hate Sense, i am using Azrael 3.0, but ripped out all sense i could without problems and put on LauncherPro. I Can't live without the Camera or i would just run AOSP or CM.
So far I have tried unrEVOked and AVA-FROYO V10.
unrEVOked is little bit behind on latest kernels and is stuffed with Sprint garbage. It did have great battery life with 4G and WiFi enabled (12 hours for me).
AVA-FROYO V10 was OK, very little Sprint crap... but battery life on it was extremely unpredictable (from 4 hours to 12 with cell standby chewing up most).
Unfortunately the latest radio update messed it up and now I need to reflash everything, so might as well look at other roots.

unrEVOked and kernels ? LOL
I am sure they will move it to the right section.
Yeah, you are right, I did mean ROM. Had a massive brain cramp, so I called it a root

I didn't have the best luck with AVA V10, but V9 has incredible battery life. Here is a link:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/kqCqyssL/Ava_Roms.html
Whichever ROM you download, you can open the zip (don't extract), go to system>apps and delete any apks you don't want it to install when you flash it. Of course, make sure you know what apks you are removing first so you don't get problems later and have to end up re-downloading/re-flashing your phone.
unrEVOked is not a ROM, nor a kernel, and has nothing to do with battery life. Other than the superuser app showing up, it should not affect anything at all. It's a rooting process, specifically intended to unlock your NAND (S-Off, visible in the bootloader).
Popular ROM options are Fresh, MIUI, CyanogenMod. Fresh has fully working WiMax. CM is close. Don't know about MIUI, but it's probably not packing working 4G. None of them have any of the Sprint apps by default.
You can bake your own Fresh ROM with whatever you want included. CM doesn't even include the Google Apps by default (you can add them easily), so it's even trimmer.
Once you are fully rooted, and familiar with the nandroid backup process (and Titanium Backup), you can switch between ROMs fairly easily and make your own decisions.
To get started, root and then flash Fresh. Actually, wait a few days (but don't accept the current OTA if you haven't already), and install Fresh once it's been updated. Because it's based on stock with Sense, you can probably flash without clearing your data (DO clear your caches) and get off to a quick start.
Yeah, I am still learning this rooting process. I have very little time available for playing around a bit and no way in hell am I going to use time of my devs in the office. Hence me doing it the lazy way - asking you which ROM is the best for my needs and then flashing and forgetting it.
BTW, thanks for the advice so far. Saving me a lot of time!
MYNs is popular or if you want a stock one, I suggest looking at the ReEngineered Stock ROM that aamikam made. He spent alot of time fixing up the apks so that they are smaller in size and speeds up the ROM.
i would just find a rom that you like and run with it. the rom itself shouldn't make THAT much difference. from what i have seen, its your kernel that really makes the difference in batter-life and performance. Most of the bloat-ware in the majority of these roms can be removed pretty easily.
Myn has some great stuff for ROMS. Ava V10 (if you have bad battery, try a different kernel)
Here are my 3 fav Kernels:
Hero's Laptop Kernel (all i have to say is WOW)
Net's 4.2 or 4.1
King's CFS
ROMs:
Sense: Calk's or Myn's or for a pure stock feel try ReEngineered 3.70.651.1.
AOSP: Cyanogen Mod (No Contest)
Kernels:
I always stick with Stock on all the ROMs I have tried.
Have fun flashing man.
Try Azael X its very fast very little no bloat and stable 4G plus battery life is great he will update to 3.70 soon he's working on it now Rick is very picky about letting his roms out with bugs so he tests and tests before release

Now I am just pondering what are the major advantages of switching out stock kernel on Azreal X v.2.1 to Ziggy?
Just a quick question. I've been out of the loop for a while and I'm wondering what is the most stable/ best aosp rom/ kernel combination out there at the moment? Thanks for your help.

There are a few GB ROM's running around, but I don't know that I'd say the majority are.
It all depends on what you want, if you still want to have HTC Sense stuff then Lou's ROM's are great, if you want a Desire-Z based ROM then Myn's Warm 2.2 is pretty good, and then if you want an AOSP (mostly GB now) then you can't go wrong with the CM7 nightlies.
They are lightning fast now with Slayher's .37 kernel he released yesterday.
My suggestion would be to nandroid and flash away, if you don't like it, you can always restore it back to the original!

Sweet. Thanks for the info. I've had CM6 on my phone since the stable release and haven't been active on the forums since then. Appreciate the feedback.

There is a Z version.
Noob here (formerly a BB user).
Okay, so I have some basic questions re installing themes:
1) How do you install themes?
2) What are ROMs and how are they associated with themes?
3) What are the common issues with installing ROMs/themes?
Any suggestions/answers are greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

There are thread that explain all this. I think they are titled "read this first, complete guide to flashing custom roms/themes"
On the OP question-Incredibly re-engineered is well worth a look as well as Magnolia. Both Roms have tremendous dev support.
Thanks!

Ok so I am new to the droid Incredible and as you can kind of tell I am coming from the HTC Hero by sprint. I looked around but nothing really helped me making a decision so now I am asking you! I am currently running the newest Synergy ROM which is android 2.3.3 and I haven't seen any gingerbread Kernels, just froyo. What kernel would you recommend for battery life because I am used to having atleast 2 days but I was running cm7 but I missed sense way too much lol
Unfortunately there are no options for custom sense GB kernels aside from what the rom comes with.
ok so that's why I could not find any, is there one in the works though?
That'll be a possibility when the official GB version source code is released, which will be after we would receive the OTA.

Kernal help
I too need help picking a Kernal. I am totally new to this Rom thing but luckly was able to root & get SkyRaider 4.2 running on my Droid Inc. on my first go with no trouble.
So what I'm mainly looking for is to get:
1. Better battery life
2. To overclock cpu
(If you have any other tips for me on getting the most out of my phone, they would be MUCH appreciated.)
So I've been thinking of flashing the Incredikernal 2.632. But I know that this new version of SkyRaider was just updated or released not too long ago. Will this effect my decision? Is the Incredikernal I want even compatible with my current SkyRaider rom? Or should I just stick with what I have? Thanks in advance.
I'd recommended trying incredikernel, you're not gonna hurt anything flashing kernels so there's nothing to lose and you very well may see improvements in performance and battery life. Just make sure you get the incredikernel for sense from 12/23. Other options to look into are heyitslou and ziggys.
I have been off the scene for awhile so much changes so quick. I have rooted my phone with unrevoked last year and am on jiminy v cricket rom. My phone has been working good. I found out about hdmwin mirror and it did not work so that brought me here. I am currently still on android 2.2 and rooted and want to try some new roms like cyna 7 and nitelies. here are my questions
1. do i need to re root phone to newer version or is unrevoked still alright
2. what roms work for 2.2 and get hdmi mirror for hdmwin
3. same thing as question 2 for kernals.
4. any addtional info
I read quite a few threads and got confused..
thanks for you help.
Shouldn't need to re-root. Why are you holding off on running a 2.3 ROM?
I am not sure if the new roms matched up with android 2.2. might be missing some info on this I read but a little confused on the 2.2 to 2.3 and so forth on which roms work for each one.
You don't need to upgrade to official 2.3. I never did. The 2.3 ROMS are not gonan give you the great battery life that Froyo ROMS had, but they have a TON more to them now. No SBC Kernels for Sense, either.
You in a good state right now. Go to the link in my URL. It will explain everything about cm7 and you need to flash amon RA too which is in there

Kernels: Chopsuey 9.2.7 and Freedom .9 are the major ones, if you are sticking with Sense.
Kernels are the major part. I would suggest MikG, or if you are feeling adventurous, either MikRunny or Hybrid (in Jaredthegreat's thread FEARMEde). I suggest mounting data in recovery before flashing any kernel. Under "Mounts" option in recovery.
Maybe you need to update to AmonRa 2.3, still the best
AOSP-wise, either MIUI or Deck's, paired with Tiamat 4.1 kernel SBC.
