Setting DNS Server manually - Windows Phone 7 General

Any idea how to set DNS server manually on WP7?
for both 3G and Wifi.

I'm afraid this is not possible in WP7
Sometimes I need to change dns setting manually.

I was trying to post the same question under HD2 forums, but the XDA boards suggested this thread! So as far as I know you can set the proxys but no DNS. Minus for WP7

VPN sets default gateway to VPN server, any way to prevent this?

On Windows PPTP VPN connections, you can select whether or not the default gateway gets set to that of the VPN server. In the Android VPN client, it automatically sets the default gw to the VPN server.
Any way to prevent this from happening?

DNS issue was something weird, it had to do with my ROM.
I still haven't resolved the ability to keep your default gateway instead of changing to the one of the VPN. So I only connect when I need to, but it would be great to be always connected so I can have access to my NAS.

WiFi DNS Does not Update

So it seems to me that this is a problem on ALL Android devices that I have tested with. Here's the situation
I have a router in my house in which I have DHCP turned off so my device will grab an IP (Not Static) and DNS from the ISP. I need to find a way to be able to just change the DNS Settings to 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 on android without having to manually put in an IP since the IP will automatically get changed every few day's.
Android doesn't seem to let me do that. Does anyone know how? Going into the Advance Menu in the Wifi settings and changing the dns does not actually change anything... I noticed this on the following android devices as well: Moto Cliq, MyTouch 3g, old Kaiser running android on NAND, and my Rhodium Devices running android.
Any reason as to why Android isn't updating my DNS Settings? Any help would be appreciated.

VPN Software for Android

Hello, I apologize if this thread has been created, but I cannot find anything searching "vpn" in this forum since its only 3 chars long.
I would like to connect my G2 to my work's intranet via VPN. I can successfully do so via the built in options under Wireless & Networks option. However I have slight inconveniences with that option.
#1 DNS does not work. I cannot resolve any internal IPs once connected to the VPN which makes the VPN connection useless unless I memorize all the IPs. I manually set the DNS Search Domains option in the VPS settings, but I am still connected to some other DNS server according to IPDroid app.
#2 No password remembering. I dislike having to open up the keyboard to type the password.
Is there a market app that will satisfy my above 2 requirements while doing everything the stock option will allow?

Desire Wifi proxy

In my colloge, I have a good wifi connection, but it should get through a HTTP proxy. I have tried many ways to solve the problem, such as TransProxy and proxy setting, but it seems that it doesn't work.
Does anybody have any ways to solve???help~~~ 3x
What exactly do u want to do? Bypass the proxy firewall that you have in the University? Can u explain yourself better?
I have the same problem.
I want use WIFI in my office where has a proxy server , And the server request user account and password.
I had tried transproxy too ,but not work.
This feature is not implemented on the Android OS. There are some 'half' workrounds on this forum somewhere, but no native support.

MAC Address

Greetings...I'm trying to determine the MAC address of my HTC TP2's 3G radio. I am setting up a firewall rule to only alow a specific MAC address to pass for specific services. Any ideas as to how to determine the MAC address of the internal radio?

MAC of the 3g radio...? Certainly you mean the wlan radio.
When I enable wifi in WinMo, there's an "advanced" button at the bottom. Then choose wi-fi info, IP and MAC.

Not the WiFi radio...the 3g radio as I need access outside my network through a UTM. I guess the first question should have been, is there a MAC associated with the 3g radio?

Odd.
I'd guess there is, but I've never heard of anyone caring about it lol. IP probably wouldn't work so well either, what about hostname or smth else?
What if you lose your phone?

Edit - wait... if your packets are going thru a layer-3 router (which undoubtedly they are at some point) the MAC will be lost. So this won't work at all, even if you did find the MAC of your phone.

I couldn't find anything through searches....The IP would be of a dynamic nature so I couldn't use it however the thought about a host name is an idea. I'll have to inspect the packets to determine if a host name is present. On my inital inspection I captured a MAC however that MAC seems to be dynamic and did change a few times using one of two MAC'S thoughout the capture. Also...during the capture I captured IPv6 MAC's....not IPv4. I'm just wondering if the CDMA network assigns a dynamic MAC instead of using a hardware based MAC? I would find this highly unlikely however it could be a possibility.

Please read my edit about layer-3 routers. I'm having this same problem at work, in relation to sniffing VoIP RTP streams passively. When crossing a layer-3 router/switch, the MAC is lost in transit.

I believe I finally nailed down the actual MAC address. My packet monitor was set for the monitoring a different port on the switch.....should have been set for X1 instead of X0. I'll make the changes to the firewall and all should be good. This exercise is for a handheld utilizing a SIP client tied into my VoIP server....I only allow specific SIP clients to access my VoIP server....helps prevent hacking and unauthorized phone use.

Findings....
Ok...one small detail I forgot.....is that MAC addresses change with each hop. With that being said.....the only way to "filter" incoming packets is to filter by IP address. I currently filter all SIP related protocols by carrier/provider IP address. Now this creates an issue due to the fact handhelds outside of the network will have dynamic IP's assigned by the cellular carrier. I'll have to continue to research this....I believe the only work around might be a VPN tunnel originating from the handheld into the network.

Actually..
You mentioned loosing the MAC address across a layer 3 router....the MAC address is lost across any router regardless of it's layer capability thus I will implement a different solution.
