Can somebody please post a video on how to root the g2 using the rage and gfree method? Please? I'm bored at the house and have off for two weeks and really want to root this phone. Thanks
G2 Rules!
There's another video from blackorince310 I believe that's his name explaining how to do it with a different method. It is straight forward easy to follow trust it got me s-off and rooted cheers.

So I saw the video and he used visionary, isn't that kinda unsafe? Is this how u rooted ur g2?
G2 Rules!
I followed that video too when he had just realist it and i haven't had any problems.. iv been rooted since the very first day I was able to root my g2
sent from g2 using DHD Rom
This is the visionary method, but works fine.
No adb needed.
Follow the videos to a "T", remove visionary and superusers from you phone if you already have them installed from a previous temp root before following the videos, start fresh, follow the videos starting with temp root then onto perm root then onto flashing a rom. Do everything just like the videos start to finish and you should have no problems.
Temp root first:
http://theunlockr.com/2010/10/20/how-to-root-the-t-mobile-g2-htc-vision-visionary-method/
Then perm root
http://theunlockr.com/2010/11/30/how-to-gain-permanent-root-and-s-off-on-the-t-mobile-g2-htc-vision/
Then flash a rom
http://theunlockr.com/2010/11/30/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-t-mobile-g2-htc-vision/
Remember don't assume you know how to temp root properly, follow all three videos start to finish and you should have no problems.
Thanks, ill try it out and see how it goes!

Good luck if you are using Visionary. It will either work perfectly, or you will be left with a phone that is stuck in a boot loop and won't start up.

I'm not so sure you can, mainly because as part of the rooting process you need to push some system files. If it's not rooted, a solution like root explorer or some su-enabled file browser obviously won't work...
I've only had mine for a couple days so I'm no expert though
Not possible I think. Whatever you do don't even try visionary perm root. Temp root is okay though.

I recommend you use the method in the Wiki (which does use rage, along with gfree). It's the most up-to-date and safest (i.e. least chance of brick/semi-brick) method.

You needto run gfree as root, so temp root is required as a minimum. Whether you get that from Visionary or rage is up to you.

search "blackprince how to root your G2" on youtube. Follow everything the dude does in the video and you should be good to go. That's what I followed, and I got s-off, but not gfree. I did it the first try withing half an hour. Good luck, sir.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
That blackprince video is using an old method though. The most up-to-date method, and far safer, is the gfree method described in the Wiki - http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...cess_.28Permanent_Root_.2F_.22Permaroot.22.29
If you already have used that video to root the phone, you should still use gfree to get full radio S-OFF, because it has more options from getting out of bad situations - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...Phone.2C_Set_SuperCID.2C_and_Turn_Radio_S-OFF

That is up to. If I were you, I would try different Roms.
If you like Sense then the best are Android Revolution, LeeDroid HD and Core Droid.
If you like Stock Android, the best are Cyanogenmod 6 (Android 2.2) and Cyanogenmod 7 (Android 2.3).
But in the end it is up to you...

You have to start with downgrading to 1.32.. because the 1.7.. can't be permrooted and root is the basis for everthing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Then you can root with VISIONary+, make Radio/ENG S-OFF, flash a custom recovery...
here are complete guides for you:

Just wondering if you guys can tell me what's the best method of rooting my phone with hardware 003 Hboot 2.10 ? Sprint sent me a refurbished phone because my other EVO died.
Unrevoked, I think it works for all evos. Google it or search xda. I can't post the link
We're comin from a pure power source.
Search feature ftw...Anyway as of today, EVERY Evo can be rooted with unrevoked 3 don't let anyone tell you otherwise

Hmm. So you installed the hboot drivers successfully? You have USB Debugging checked, right? There are a number of things that can interfere with the Unrevoked process, such as HTC Sync, Anti Virus Programs, PDAnet, doubletwist, etc etc. Basically, you want to be sure that there are no programs running that can communicate with your phone or interfere with it when it's plugged in, other than the Unrevoked program. Be sure all other things are disabled. Also, which version of Unrevoked are you using? Just to be sure, it's the newest one, correct? Version 3.32, right? ( http://downloads.unrevoked.com/recovery/3.32/reflash_package.exe ) Once you've confirmed all of those things, try running Unrevoked a second time, and see if you have success. I've used unrevoked a number of times, and it's succeeded for me every time, it should definitely work.
Edit: And I just double checked the links in the thread I linked you to earlier, and the download links are current and up to date. So if you downloaded from that link, then you are on the current Unrevoked version of 3.32. So that answers that question. I would temporarily disable your anti virus, be sure that no other programs that can interfere are running, and try running Unrevoked again.
~~~ HTC EVO - Universal Auto Root ~~~ v2.4 (works with all US EVOs)(3/12/11)
I believe autoroot works with ALL evos. I've used it to flash several evos flawlessly. Make sure you have htc sync and the android SDK installed before you do to ensure you have all the necessary drivers.
Again, thx.
any one else would like to share some experience here? I really appreciate it.
I have seen to many users run into problems with unrevoked. I did it manually using adb commands and it took a while but I knew what was going on if something messed up. That said, I watched a vid on that autoroot tool and it gives you a decent step-by-step with log if something messed up. I would recommend it, or of course, you could still use the manual method in the dev forum. The title says they are no longer updating it, but no releases have occurred since then so everything in it still applies.
I've rooted 2 evos 2 heros a g1 a g2 an incredible and an eris all with unrevoked3 and it worked flawlessly. Just follow instructions and enjoy
Rooted 3 evos, 1 over xbox live, with unrevoked, and no problems. Just need the hboot drivers, install then uninstall htc sync, then run.
And don't forget to turn on usb debugging.
I'm opposite of some here, I've heard of tons of issues with Autoroot & the Evo, but fairly few with unrevoked.
I'd have to place my vote with unrevoked if you're looking for an automatic rooting process. Just remember that whatever you do, read the directions thoroughly.
All of the oneclick methods have a high brick rate; the safest way to root is via adb as listed in the wiki. Its quite simple (I was drunk when I rooted mine), just follow the directions and double check your typing
Follow the wiki guide. Follow exactly the guide. Should be no problem.
The wiki is the best way.
Use the Wiki as it is the XDA approved method. Now you will need to down grade so you need to follow the wiki in the exact order that it is. If you cannot follow the instructions, then you probably should not be rooting your phone in the first place.
You may want to take it to a fried that you trust to do the work and show/explain to you what they are doing and why. What are your goals for a rooted phone.
I've rooted my Vision twice with ADB and it gets easier once you get the hang of it.
Well it's very common that people get intimidated at the mention of ADB when they start out to root their phone... You could follow rooting instructions on my blog www.desirez.strawmetal.com you could try out the HTC Super Tool or use the regular guide there.. hope i could help you
My response to another guy (with basically the same question) just earlier today pretty much covers my thoughts on the matter: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21280578&postcount=18
Wiki guide or strawmetals (or the guide in CM Wiki, for that matter) are essentially the same, I believe. But it looks like strawmetal was kind enough to package all the needed files into one download package, and simplify the steps a bit.
All of the oneclick methods have a high brick rate; the safest way to root is via adb as listed in the wiki. Its quite simple (I was drunk when I rooted mine), just follow the directions and double check your typing
The downgrade is the hard part, and that requires adb.
Once past that, you could use the visionary/gfree method (not the visionary perm root method). It's pretty safe from what I've heard. I know some will disagree, but I've done it 3 times successfully with gfree.
i try to set up adb but my computer is dumb!!
If you haven't already, check out the adb guide in my signature to see if that helps.
