New Rom: Old Data, Apps.. - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I want to try the new Cyanogen Mod.
Up to know I'm using RUU_Vision_HTC_WWE_1.34.405.5_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M_release_155556_signed
Is it right, that the best wa to safe and restore all data is to use Titanium Backup?
Is there anything that I have to consider else in terms of restoring my old data and apps?
I already did a Nandroid Backup.
How can I sync all my data with Cyanogenmod?
Best and thx,
Blubberor

[Q]

Ok, so I'm about to upgrade my ROM to the most current release.. I was wondering if there's a way to keep data from my games so I don't have to start over.. does backing up with titanium back up do this? If not, how do I go about achieving this?
Thanks
I'm not.positive this would work but what about making a nand backup and then restoring data. Just a thought.

Yes, Titanium Backup will do this for you... When ever I flash a new rom and need to restore something, I always reinstall the app fresh from the market (or whatever source I aquired them from) and then use Titanium Backup to restore the data only. I feel comfortable doing that way instead of doing a blanket data restore through Clockwork.

[Q] Restoring text message and calendar data from Nandriod backup

Tonight I upgraded from stock android 2.1 to Syndicate 2.2 ROM. I thought that I had backed up my sms and calendar data with titanium backup, but apparently I did not.
How can I recover my sms and calendar data from the clockwork nandroid backup? Note that the original backup that contains the data I need is not an EXT4 backup. Any help would be much appreciated.

Did you try restoring the data in those apps from Titanium and rebooting?
You can try restore/advanced data only from CWM but if there is any incompatible data you may get fc's which will require you to clear data for those apps. If it is that important then it is worth a try. Your calendar should have been backed up in Google and should restore with your contacts though.

First you would need to unyaffs the data img file from the nandroid backup:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-i7500/136176-how-extract-files-nandroid-backup-windows.html
Then get the mmssms.db from /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
and I'm guessing the calendar one is /data/data/com.android.providers.calendar/databases/calendar.db
This is theoretical because I haven't actually tried it. I've seen where the file isn't compatible with the sms software on a different rom. In that case, the titanium backups wouldn't work. For the future I would recommend using some sort of SMS backup software from the market. Good luck!
Thanks guys! I'll try both methods and report back.
To answer KG's question, on stock 2.1, the default calendar save option was to save appointments to my phone calendar and not the android calendar. I had the same issue with gmail, but remembered to backup the phone contacts before flashing. Titanium only backed up my 3rd party apps.
This was my first android ROM upgrade, so at least next time I know what not to do.
KG, your method did the trick. All my data is restored. I'm going to need to do another backup with mybackup root and reinstall the ROM, because some of the ROM software isn't there anymore, but at least my data isn't lost. Thanks for the help!

Glad I could help. When I do something like change ROMs I backup with everything I got, Nandroid, Titanium, Mybackup, export contacts to SD and anything else I can grab. Something has to have my missing data when I need it ;-)

[Q] A noob question about nandroid backup..

actually u can call me a semi-noob..
as i have been flashing many kernels, themes, but only a few roms..
i used to flash a new rom only when i got my phone bricked or sth like losing all data.. without worrying about my data.
but this time i wanna flash a new rom with all my data here.
i know there is nandroid backup, which i have used many times. but limited to the full restore.
so my question here, i know there is an option called advanced restore.
if i want to do a backup, and restore my data (but not the previous rom) after flashing the new rom, which option should i choose?
many thanks!
Try titanium backup. With this free app you can backuo all your app datas and all your user data. This means for example you dont lose the highscores of your game and if you backup your userdata you can backup for example your homescreen.
After flashing just restore your data with titanium backup

[Q] Any way to FULLY back up data when moving to new ROM?

Hey guys.
Im thinking of switching over to Viper from ARHD. But i have a general question. What is the most effective way of switching to a new ROM without losing ANY data? I know i can use Titanium Backup to back up and restore apps (which is what I do now) , but is there a better way which keeps ALL my data? I read about advanced restoring data from a Nandroid backup, would that cause any problems ?
Thanks

Well all your data stays intact such as songs, pictures, videos etc. It's just app data you will loose so best way like you said is Titanium Backup. Most things are in the cloud now anyway
Of course the SD card remains untouched, I'm talking about app data and home screens and folders and etc.

Well if you got a launcher such as Nova you can make a backup of your configuration and for app data titanium is the best
You can back up your entire phone via a Nandroid backup done from recovery. Is that what you mean?
You can back up using recovery which is a nandroid back up and restore your data using nandroid manager in the playstore.

If you're going to an aosp ROM from an aosp ROM, then make a backup of launcher3 in titanium backup and restore it after you've restored your apps.

Question Best way to backup apps and data? Any suggestions?

Hi everyone,
I'm going to flash oxygen os since most of the problems have been solved.
Does anyone know a way to backup apps and data, i tried titanium backup, but it seems that it can only backup but fails to restore them. Thanks in advance
Titanium backup worked fine for me. But other app I know is Helium Backup. But it is a super old app not sure if it's working perfectly. Worked for some of my apps.

Swift Backup
OnePlus Clone Phone app if you have a spare OnePlus/Oppo phone.
It's not a backup/restore app, but it can copy apps and their data - something which is not possible without root any more.
I would use apps' built-in feature to backup, if available, before relying on Titanium/ Swift, etc. What use is a backup that cannot be restored?
In my case, there aren't too many apps that need an offline backup, so it works for me. If you are flashing a new ROM, it is better to setup everything fresh than restoring from 3rd party backups.
