I see some of you people really do love this rom, I hear some great things about it, but I hear one thing that make me say "why would they leave that out? "
Reasons I'm tempted to try it
- tethering is enabled (like its supposed to be)
-i hear about great battery life
Things I don't like but could get past
-no sense (which means looking for new widgets to mimic the ones in sense)
Reason I haven't taken the plunge
-NO 4G! I live in a 4g area so to not have it available to me is ridiculous! Any word on why it isn't up and running?
So tel me something about cm6 that makes it such a great rom

for one it's ridiculous fast i haven't used a faster rom. two battery life i've gone two days without charging before and my phone still had some juice. three stock android feels better (just my personal opinion). also 4g is going to be in cm really soon so you might want to just wait for that. hope this helps and i would defiantly recommend you try it.
If 4g is a priority then keep a rom with 4g support. CM is suppose to have 4g support soon though, and I personally love the AOSP look and feel, and not too much Sense.
Soon as 4g is there I'll try it, see what the fuss is about, I like the speed though
Sent from my HTC Evo 4g using tapatalk!
I am betting that the only reason the battery would be better is because there is no sense... and possibly some things are tweaked out of the gate. I get pretty good battery with a sense ROM when I have WiFi enabled and mobile networking not set to be on all the time.
Cm with zendroid or snap is RIDICULOUSLY fast... an I use zendeoid set at 844-245 setcpu and it feels so much better then not just sense but any rom that's not aosp. I could never ever live sense anymore.
A drop of Chuck Norris's semen was placed on the IPhone. We now have the Htc Evo.

Just so you know they have 4g working on cm7 it should be released before Christmas... changelog was posted last night for the update...
Most ppl like it because it shows off the evo true capabilities, sense holds it back with so much bloat. The speed is astronomical and battery life is awesome.
Also if you want sense like Widgets just download launcherpro which has the same widgets ..
Hope that shed a little light for you.

Is there any type of app or installation to mimic the facebook contacts being added?
If so, I think that's the next rom I try, but one question, I hear the market doesn't work unless you use something called gapps, what is that and where do I get it from?

personal experience
I tried CyanogenMod 3 times in the last 3 months and it has never worked as good for me as for the masses, I always thought it was suppost to be the best, I did notice that downloads completed faster but something wasn't right, was always glitchy i could never tell if it was CM or AWD although i hate to say ADW cause until just a couple days ago its been my favorite launcher for a while. when i hit the app drawer the transitions where horrible and not smooth and crashed alot.
Im not fond of the white menu either. last tested on 12/15 it could have been the lastest nightly or stable not sure. I may try it again at another time or when it is a fully functional Rom
Okay that's understandable . Cm almost has 4g and HDMI which would make it fully functional. And gingerbread is also coming soon which will remove the ugly whiteness. And then sense Roms shall be scarce and inferior to the great cm

The Facebook app does this on cm6 or any soap rom for that matter. Also gapps is basically making your phone a Google phone instead of just a android phone.

people like it so its good for them, i have other roms i like that i think is good, the beauty of it is we have top notch dev's supporting our phone, the rest is opinion
ive flashed a couple roms but i have not flashed them all nor do i claim to know everything about every rom but my opinion is that cm6.1.1 is the best rom ive used. its the little things that i like about cm6.1.1. for instance the gestures on the lockscreen was a nice addition, being able to use the menu button to unlock the screen is nice. being able to change what buttons you want in the status bar power widget. being able to hold down the home button and launch any app i want is a nice feature, i personally have that feature set to load itching thumb to give me that webOS feel i miss rom my pre.
the 4g means very little to me i have no need for it. i do live in san antonio and we do have 4g but i rarely used it. i am looking forward to having 4g in the cm update but it is more of a looking forward to what else these devs can do than "omg i have 4g on my phone again." i have no need to need such a fast connection away from my house. if i am going to download something that requires such fast speed i will simply use my laptop.

Its one of the best put together rom out there. No offense to other devs. His kernel is pretty much built for speed and stableness (dont even think thats a word) and its awesome. You gotta read the log when the rom is finished and posted. A lot of great new features and makes the phone less dull.

In simple words. Cyanogenmod adds tons of features and options that make your phone completely customizable, and it's very stable when it's finished. On top of that, you can get the latest version of Android sometimes before the manufacturer has dropped the update. And if your phone stops getting official updates, you'll probably see the cyan team try to squeeze the latest onto it. G1 running 2.2, come on!
I've got a MyTouch 3G and a G1 running Cyanogen 6.0, 2.2. It's amazing and I was sad when I got the G2 that I missed my cyanogen.
Lol someone else asked cyanogen the exact thing.
@cyanogen sorry for my ignorance but why is cyanogen better than stock? Ive been meaning to look into it since i rooted my phone about 2 hours ago via twidroid
@xsil0 imagine if you took all those little things that bothered you about the phone, fixed them, and added a bunch of neat stuff. thats cm. about 1 hour ago via web in reply to xsil0

Stability.
stability, performance, and technical features that have the potential to increase customization and battery life.
I'm looking forward the most to being able to toggle 2g/3g without that apn bull**** - should expand my battery life significantly when my phone is in extended idle (@ work).
I have been wondering the same thing. I hear about it all the time. I think that I am going to give it a go. I am on the sprint EVO 4G
CYANOGENMOD is the best rom ever built for any device as it gives tons new features and looks really nice.
It consists of tweaks that make the phone actually faster.
You want to know the difference, try cyanogenmod and then try coming back to stock.I bet you will miss it!
Customizing features and simplicity are best on Cyanogen mod roms.
for me the best of CM is smoothness and overall performance . Its fast and naked, not that much of special features.
And yea If u r lookin for features check out PACman roms
Why this post here?
Hey guys. I was hoping some of you ROM flashing freaks can help me out here. After a month or so of having full root I finally decided to d/l Rom Manager (what an awesome app...major kudos to the dev!) and the first thing I did was try out the famous CM6 rom.
First off let me admit to the fact that I don't think I gave it a fair shot...mb I was scared by the lack of Sense that I have grown so used to, but after a very short while I reverted to my backup of the stock rom. Besides the lack of familiarity with a non-Sense ROM I was also turned off by the lack of 4G and the small things that people on the CM6 thread were complaining about such as notifications for text and emails not showing up on the status bar. I also saw a handful of people complaining about excessive battery drain. Anyway, I stray from my point. I'm sure CM6 is an awesome ROM, I mean thousands of people swear by it, so there must be something to it...just right now I need some Sense.
On that note it seems to me that the most popular Sense rom is Myn's. Please correct me if I'm wrong on this. What I really don't understand is this: What makes Myn's ROM or any of the other Sense rom better than stock? I would really like to hear from MYN users (and other sense rom users) and tell me why you prefer your ROM over stock.
Thanks in advance for any useful feedback!
I use Myn's ROM and CM6.1 (the latter right now).
The most cited thing about Myn's ROM that people like is the theming. Myn is also really on it with the updates, and he includes new features with every release.
Just nandroid and flash it. If you like Sense, you can't go wrong. Also, definitely give CM6 another go sometime in the future. It's great.

Hey Sock, thanks for the reply. Yeah, I think I def didn't give a CM6 a fair try. I think I just got scared off by the unfamiliar territory. One thing I did notice when I had it running was that my reception wasn't very good. I only had 2 bars in an area that I usually have full or close to full bars. Oddly though, it was working fine and was d/l content from the market at around the same speed as when I was on stock.
CM6 uses a different code for signal reception than sense roms (less bars). Even though it appears different, there are no differences in data speed. Those bars u see are for data strength btw

Ive been using myns roms for quite a while now, all 3 of his warm 2.2 releases. I highly suggest you give it a try. The theme is silky smooth, all sense widgets work, myn has put his magic touch into it so it runs smoother and snappier than stock, he is ON TOP of updating his Roms, and always adds new features and little touches to it. Plus there are all sorts of options for customizing to your liking. I also get much better battery life than stock. Check it out good sir.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
While I don't run Myn's (running MIUI), the reason I started flashing custom ROMs was to get rid of the Sprint bloat that the stock ROM had. After each restart I would see a Nascar app and a whole lot of other **** running that I couldn't care less about. Also now I can use setcpu to underclock my phone at times (screen off and etc) to help save my battery as well. Seeing much longer battery life now.
I have used Myn's, CM, MIUI, Calks, Fresh, DC, etc. Right now I am back on the newest stock release. I was kind of missing the stock appearance and I found that a couple tweaks I like wouldn't work on the other roms. Plus, I can get rid of all excess and unwanted apps using titanium or root explorer. Finally, my battery life is phenomenal so I think I'll stick with stock for a while. However, of the custom sense roms, I think the ones I have tried were all great. DC is very slow to update while myn is very fast and regular with his. Myn is great if you want a themed rom, if not I say try calk or fresh, Ava's rom is pretty sweet too. I guess what it comes down to is do a nandroid backup and start flashing away til you find one you like.

in my opinion myn's rom is very fast runs great and has the evo hotspot so you dont have to shell out an extra 30 a month it has 4g and is very stable. plus you get huge battery savings plus all other shell options and dev stuff that i kinda understand but dont want to sound stupid trying to explain.. i really cant wait for the next myn rom to come out it looks awesome and works even better, but i got my stock battery with heavy use from about 4 hours to almost 10 hours, but its all in personal choice. hope my input helped a little..
try su file manager & terminal from the market and if you dont have busybox get it from market and you can remove any file you want you just have to mount as read-write

CyanogenMod 6.1.1 is probably your best bet. Everything works on it, including wifi/gps/bluetooth, all that jazz. It's just the stock theme, as you probably know, but there's a nice thing also in the development section called Cyanoginger 1.1 final, should be near the top, it's a gingerbread theme for cm6.1.1. That should do it for her

Since he edited, I'm not sure what the status is on the GPS of the current CM7, but it's not too good for me.
CM6.1.1 is probably where it's at. It served me well
EDIT: Upon closer inspection, I see the GPS stuff should be fixed. I'd still go with the CM6.1.1/Cyanoginger1.1 combo.

I know this thread is a few days old but, here is my take.
I have the Slide and love it. I decided to root so I could have Froyo. Here is what I"ve learned.
If you go with Cyanogen you lose everything that makes the slide sense ui so great. You don't have peep, the weather widget, the awesome htc music app, friend stream, and all the other things that make the slide so awesome. However, you do get much better reception and call quality and much faster download speeds over wifi, edge, and 3g.
If you go with GratiousSlide then you get to keep all the cool htc sense apps with all the sleek looks and functionality but, you end up with the same half baked call quality and reception. Doesn't matter what radio you have your still stuck with the same cell tower reception you had with the stock slide rom. Download speeds are much better than the stock slide rom and, do seem comparable to CM6/7 but, I still think CM is just a bit faster.
Pick your poison.

Cyanogenmod is faster yes, but it has nothing to do with call quality? I had no difference in call quality/reception. There is a difference in download speeds, yes, but that is most likely due to the overall speed of the rom, not reception/radio-related.

she's been using it since then and is loving the hell out of it. the battery life is insane now. I didn't upgrade the radio, atleast not to my knowledge. anyway the reception seems fine, in fact her phone sports a fat H instead of 3g practically everywhere in dfw. lucky

Really? I'm the exact opposite. AOSP is quick with good battery life but I can't stand it. It feels incomplete to me. Sense is the best to me, even though it might be a little slower and use more battery.
On a side note why would you want a HTC phone if you dislike Sense?
I am in agreement with you on this, the sense are a little flashy out of all the roms. They also have a lot of extra mods and different settings, which to me gives it a heavy feeling. The asop and akop aren't heavy at all, and they still have the same customization options that I want, yet very easy to use. I love my ICS, I loved CM7, i always find myself using an asop over sense

I did the exact same thing although I had to wait for the alpha rev for windows back in July. Anyone remember that?? Don't get me wrong HTC makes beast phones. But STOCK sense is garbage. If devs didn't put their custom tweaks into their roms I think a lot of people wouldn't use them.
I dunno about stock sense being garbage. I came from a Droid Eris though which is why I probably like sense now. Sense 2.1 ran at a crawl on that phone so AOSP Rom were the o ly way to make that phone run good. With the dinc2 though, I've noticed that sense ROMS just run better than aosp. The AOSP ROMS seem to lag after being on without a reboot. The sense ROMS don't seem to do that.

Sense has some amazing widgets and I like most of the interface, but CM7 and MIUI roms are so much quicker. Luckliy I have Boot manager, so I can use on rom for a week, till I get bored, then switch it up. I no longer have to make backups and reflash. I always come back to sense though, mainly becuase of the widgets
Well the thing with Sense is if you come from a history of using it your going to like it no matter what. I mean I got the Droid Incredible 2 because it was free for me. I tried handling sense but replaced it after a week. This phone was the first HTC phone I ever had. (First Android for me was the Motorola Cliq XT since my intro to the smartphone world was through the iPhone). Just Sense is not like ICS where I just recently came from. And ICS was my baby.
I LOVE Sense!! And, for me at least, it has better battery life than AOSP ROMs although it is a little slower.

Sense better battery life than aosp? No way.
I came to the dinc2 from an og droid, and I have to say I would take sense over aosp any day. And yes, I also get better battery life on sense. Then again, I bought an htc phone because I wanted sense.
Sent from my mobile typewriter with tapatalk
I came over from the OG Droid, so Sense was completely new to me when I got my Incredible 2 last summer. I tried it for about a month before I finally decided I just wasn't a fan, so I went to Go Launcher. A bit later, I decided to root the phone and try out some fancy new ROMs. I've been through a bunch of different selections since then. Generally anytime a new Sense ROM comes out, I see all the people that rave about it, so I wind up giving it a try. But it never fails, within a week or two, I wind up going back to an AOSP choice.
As far as battery life, I haven't personally noticed a huge different between the two. I've run Sense flashes that are good and battery, and others that are not as good. Same for AOSP. It the end, it basically comes down to me just not personally loving the Sense UI.
Sense:
. much better camera (especially in low light conditions)
. Better phone and contacts apk s . Better phone and speaker in call volumes
. Slightly better battery life
. More polished UI
. Feels like it's made for the phone
Aosp:
. Quicker, lighter, snappier
. Power toggles are awesome
. Feels incomplete
. In call volumes are questionable. They're either too low or too high.
Conclusion: can't go wrong with either one, but the edge goes to sense (until aosp ICS is fully functional)
"the relentless pursuit of the perfect ROM "
I thought I'd really like Sense, but once I used it, I just didn't care for it. Can't Stand the launcher - the enormous phone button, the dedicated "customize" button, etc... So I use ADW, which means I loose all the Sense widgets, which leaves little else of value.
The camera on Sense did seem to be better than AOSP, not sure why that would be. But I use either MIUI or CM7 as they're so much faster and, in my experience, do get better battery life.

Yep, the launcher kills Sense for me. Why on earth do they do that? That stupid customize button is one of the worst UI design decisions I've ever seen.
Ultimately, too, I'd rather have my phone run well than look pretty, so while I mess around with Sense ROMs when they come out, I always end up back on AOSP. I like HTC hardware, but Sense is more trouble than it's worth.

Yea I have to agree with that much about sense. The launcher does blow pretty bad. The paginated app drawer is pretty sad too. I use go launcher pretty much because the HTC launcher is so bad.

well certain versions of rosie are better than others....i like the mt4g slide version a lot (in tsm bullet, cheap plug) and its a lot different than normal rosie
bliss sense 3.5 rosie is barely recognizable as a sense launcher in its layout
and from what ive seen of ics sense 3.5/3.6/4.0 they completely redid the layout
I like bliss alright but i haven't tried any of the 3.5 ROMs on the dinc2 so I don't know how well they run.

Let me clarify that I never use the sense launchers. Go is king for me, whether on sense or aosp
"the relentless pursuit of the perfect ROM "
My soon to be wife has been having some issues with her trusty Evo 4G, and I've been wanting to root her phone for some time to get her access to wireless tethering.
So I'm wondering, what would you all recommend for a stable/fast Sense ROM that could add some features. She's really comfortable with Sense, so I don't want to switch it up on her too much, but I would like to think she would appreciate some value added features. Was originally thinking Mik's, but I haven't used it in a long time....and the other Sense based ROMs I've used recently have been not as stable as I had hoped.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!

No way! Here I was just expecting to get some normal ROM recommendations, and here you go and show me a ROM designed for the ladies?? You rock, thanks, will definitely check this out.
my wife likes tommys classic....when I was on sense I liked mikg3.11, although it did seem to bog down.
I'm a lady using Tommytomatoe's Classic altho a lot of guys like it too. It is beautiful, everything is perfect. Had Mikg before. The classic is smoother and faster.

What were the "issues" she was having with her existing Evo?
And was *she* asking for wireless tether or was that more your suggestion?
I don't mean that to come cross as accusatory - just saying my advice would depend on who's really driving this and what problem is really being solved.
My favorites are Nitrous and Classic. For me they're the best performing and most stable.
Tommy's classic rom and the pink theme would be great. As a guy I even liked the pink theme as it was clean and well made.

I recently discovered the Swagged out Stock ROM. Uses a graphical touch based installer and has ben rock solid for me.

If a no sense rom is one of your options, then I suggest CM7.
There are a lot of themes available that can be changed to even as per the mood if need be coz its that easy.
CM7 + LunarUI
XDA link for the theme
Or even MIUI ... GB versions for now
.
For Sense, I also prefer Nitrous and Classic. For non-Sense, I use MIUI but I'm still on GB MIUI which has tons of themes (I don't use 4G even though I live in a 4G area).
For a Sense ROM MikG 3.11 is the best hands down. Plenty of themes, GREAT battery life without swapping kernals, fast, no lag and it all just works.
I flash a lot of ROM's but always go back to MikG until something else and beat it.

Not accusatory at all....
She's having issues with MMS send/receive, where it doesn't want to download the image or send the image. This is a new issue that is happening more frequently for some reason.
She's also having an issue where notifications are not disappearing after she views the item...for instance new gmail notification appears, she views the item by clicking on the notification, all mail is read, and notification is still there. She has to either clear it manually or go back into gmail and exit for it to disappear.
I use wireless tether on occasion, and she's jealous of the functionality....so this is her asking for the functionality, not me pushing it on her.
She has the new phone bug, but can't get one until fall. I know how a new ROM can curb this urge, so I figured why not install something that:
a) fixes her issues above
b) makes her phone more responsive w/ better battery life
c) gives her wireless tether
d) gives her the appearance changes to help curb the appetite for a new phone
I think I'm going to have to go with MikG for her. I've had the most experience with it myself, and also seems like the most popular choice by all of your responses.
Thanks everyone for helping me out with this, I had way more response than I anticipated and after I open her up to the world of ROM's maybe I can start steering her more towards an AOSP world so her next phone can be a nexus.

Special thanks to a lady responding to this thread. Makes me a feel a little more comfortable rooting my lady's phone.
I think I need to give Tommy's classic a try as well, seems to be MikG's arch rival in the world of Sense ROM's.
Nitrus and Digital karma... faster and smaller than MikG 3.11

I discovered this ROM too and found it to be snappy and reliable. No random reboots and everything working just great. I went back to Energy ROM with his latest release on the 4th and it is visually the most appealing and at its most stable version. It depends on which sense version you prefer. Sense 1.0 is super stable and sense 3.5 is fancy as hell.
