[Q] Market still force-closing (CM 6.1.1+Pershoot) - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Opening the Market installed from update.zip here on the foum, it just force-closes immediately.
Running CM 6.1.1 + Pershoot's 1.5ghz kernel.
Might it be Pershoot? Or the .zip? Is .apk better?

The one pre-installed with CM. Just "File Manager".

Halp!
This makes mt G2 almost unusable...

Use Root Explorer. It has a button on top that all you have to do is press to change the folder you are in to Read/Write and when you done modifying it, press the button to change it back to Read/Only

It won't let me change the permissions on /system (rest works).
Probably because I don't have the latest due to not having the market lol...
Can someone upload a newer Root Explorer?

"SU File Manager and Terminal". Best file manager you can buy, and it allows /system and /data to mount as rw in file explorer mode.
Sent from a Western Union telegram.

From adb shell or a term session on the phone, makes no difference:
Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system

If you still need the latest one let me know and I'll upload it to dropbox.

Alright, I removed it, but update.zip for the Market, once installed, still force-closes...
Does someone have a DEFINITE link to a working Market for 6.1.1?
I know there are at least 5 uploaded on this forum, and I'll start to try each one one by one since I can delete them now.
OK it failed again, but I installed the modded Gapps (was hoping to avoid having to install all Gapps, they waste resources) and the Market works.
Now to remove all the other crap...
edit: nevermind lol.....

Spoke too soon. It was working fine for a few minutes, then started force-closing constantly. Won't start now.

[RESOLVED] Protected Apps in recent Cyanogenmod Nightlies - Halp!

My cell phone OCD is being aggravated due to my broken market. I suspect there may be a fix out there, but the Cyanogen threads are all MASSIVE. I've done my best to sort through them and every 'fix' so far hasn't worked on newer builds.
Back on my Hero, whenever I had this problem I would just edit the build.prop and wipe cache. The way I understand it is that we can't fix it that way because up until very recently we haven't had an official Froyo build.
I downloaded the OTA zip hosted on HTC's website hoping I would be able to pull a build.prop from it, but it seemed to only contain a patch file for the build.prop.
If someone running the official OTA could upload a pull of their build.prop, I think we might have a fix... ...or am I totally off base?
I figure it might be a good idea to include apps I'm missing in market just to be clear. Paid version of Cachemate, Fandango, aSpiritbomb Live Wallpaper just to name a few.
I'm running the 8/03 build FYI
Nightly Market

Pretty sure it's in the first post.
EDIT: Actually, maybe not. I haven't run a nightly in a day or two, and I could be getting it confused with RC-1...

I've tried that market fix at least 3 times on 8/02. I'll try it once on 8/03.
EDIT: Still no worky. Maybe I should just flash back to RC1.
I think I may have fixed it if anyone cares. Clear market data, cache. Push the attached file to /system/build.prop and reboot.
Paid cachemate is showing for me now.
Props to netarchy for upping the 2.2 build this fingerprint was pulled from.

The easiest way is through adb on your computer.
Code:
adb remount
adb c:\%pathtofile%\build.txt /system/build.prop
adb reboot
You could also delete your original build.prop with a root file manager, rename the attached file build.prop and move it to /system/. I wouldn't bother with the terminal on the phone.
Thanks for this!!
terminal app works fine too.
Code:
SU
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
rm /system/build.prop
cat /sdcard/build.txt > /system/build.prop
Sorry for the noob question, but what exactly are "protected apps" ?
I'm on the latest nightly and my market "seems" to be fine. I'm just wondering if i'm missing anything in the market.

What is the actual command to push this file to build.prop?
Do I have to rename the fle build to build.prop?
Is there a directory the build file has to be in on my computer to push it to the phone?

Question 1:
Code:
adb remount
adb push c:\%pathtofile%\build.txt /system/build.prop
adb reboot
Just like above.
Question 2:
No. If you put in the commands like I've listed above, it will push to build.prop even though on your desktop it shows as a txt file.
Question 3:
No. The build.txt file can be in any directory. You will just need to specify the path.
I would recommend you push this build.txt if you are running 8/04 nightly. This is updated.

You should be able to with most file manager apps like astro or androzip.
Astro has the option but rarely works for me... maybe it's just my phone XD
That happened to me once. But on my nexus and I was playing around with ninja morph. Anywho I was running cm so I just reflashed it without wiping or anything with the same rom I was using and it put the browser back for me and didn't messing with the settings or apps. Maybe you could give that a try if worst comes to worse. Just if you have a theme you will prolly have to reflash the theme also. Hope you get it working though!

If I long press on the files I get an option for permissions. I can then select read-write options and then ok. But when I go back into permissions, they have reverted to their original state.
EDIT: Ok, I finally saw what you meant and installed the files, but no app in app drawer. I have rebooted just to be sure.
Go to were the browser Is downloaded to and longpress then select copy. Then navigate to /system and at the top of the screen toggle the button that says R/O to R/W, then select app dir and hit menu then paste.

That's exmaple how to do it.. jus put the proper name for adw ex and from there should be good i, I do ths with LP all the time
Well if you're using a custom rom then you can open the rom .zip with something like 7zip, navigate to system>app then drag and drop ADW EX in there. Flash the rom like normal and you're done. That's how I do it.
There's also the terminal method mentioned by ilostchild, though what was forgot is mounting the system as rw
mount -o remount,rw /system
There's also ADB which is done the exact same way aside from having to tell adb to operate in a shell.

[GUIDE] Merging updated system apps with old one, GET MORE FREE MEMORY!!

(Preface for noobs : /system and /data are two different partitions. Freeying up /system won't get you more intrenal memory, but /data does. Old apks rest in /system and updated versions placed in /data. You can replace the old apks using newer versions)
I heared Titanium Backup PRO does something like, but you can do this with any File Explorer with ROOT access. Its works 100% for Android Gingerbread 2.3.x , try on other versions.
### Do it on your own risk, I am not responsible for anything ###
1. Update the desired app to the latest version from Google Play Store
2. Open File Manager, Enable ROOT_ACCESS, remount /System as writable
3. Goto /system/app and backup the desired apk to sdcard
4. Goto /data/app and copy updated apk
5. Paste into /System/app
6. Note down the filename of old apk and delete the old apk
7. Rename the new apk into the old filename
8. You may encounter a FORCE CLOSE if the app was running in background
9. The updated apk in /data/app will be removed automatically
10.Restart your device, Done!
I replaced Playstore, Maps, Google Search ect..
Example: For PlayStore, updated apk will be com.android.vending-1.apk, and old apk is vending.apk
Hit thanks it it works, Thanks
Update title with "not noobproof", this is complicated and dangerous for people who don't know what they're doing.

Um that isn't going to brick you. Especially since you're talking about system app. Worst thing to happen would be a reboot if you touched an app which was currently running.
But I've been using root explorer and it works great. Or if the file is on my computer I use adb push. Or even a flashable zip if you really are worried.

I would not know how to begging with that. could I use terminal and instal like I would if I was using the cwmtr.img install directions. but direct it to system/app?

Root Explorer is a file manager, use to move the file to the appropriate folder and set permissions and reboot. I know you can create a zip & tar file, don't know if it would be flashable though.

Did you reset permissions to match the rest of the files in the folder?
And you probably need to wipe dalvik and cache in recovery.

Please know what you're talking about first before posting suggestions. Especially when it pertains to system directory permissions. System/app directory uses rw-r--r-- as the permissions. Meaning owner has read write permissions while everyone else only has read. Not setting permissions correctly can lead to many many many issues.

I vote for a rom that has it and works where you don't need to mod stuff, yet. Learn all this stuff with something you don't need, like a sound mod (DSP) or something.
