[Q] Notification LED & WakeUp - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello XDA!
Is there any way I can make my phone flash green LED and WakeUp as soon as any notification (Text, Mail, whatever really...) arrives?
Any additional software I should be aware of?
Thanks!

You can setup this thing in each Application. Mail, SMS, K9, Handcent and so on. But even in the Stock ones.
To remind you longer than the Stock 5 Minutes of flashing, use "MissedReminder".

Well I am using stock application, only GMail for mail, and I can't see any settings regarding my problem in the stock sms setting menu.

im using "LED me know" app , its quite usefull and easy to configure, dont think it can wake the phone though but it does affects LED and other notifications.

[Q] Hello?! Wake up!!!!

When I receive a text message I want the screen to wake up for a few seconds. I can't find this option.
Using stock EVERYTHING right now.
I know other apps like GO SMS and Handcent have this option. But, anyone find a way with stock text message client??
no way to do it with the stock app. Unless someone finds a way to make it happen
I think the led notification is all ya get with stock with i like because it uses less battery
Lightflow app (led color control app in the themes/app section) does it as well as sms reminder etc. Theres a bunch of apps thatll do it for the stock messaging app.

Can't do it with stock... at least not stock phones on Sprint.
The stock SMS apps on US Cellular Android phones do this... I'm running a ROM on my Moment based off the Acclaim (DL25), and the SMS app turns on the screen for a couple seconds if not in use, or beeps quietly if you are on a call.

[Q] So am I right that Google didn't bother to add support for the LED in the SMS app

I don't get it, the notification LED works for everything EXCEPT the native SMS app! WTF is that about? Are they really that lazy to no include any LED notification options in ICS for this phone?
It works perfectly for FB, Whatsapp, Gmail, etc... but nothing for SMS/MMS?
Or am I missing something here?
Download light flow in the market. The lite version works perfectly, and you can set up different coloured led notifications for different apps

Nope, you're not missing anything. Noticed it myself. I assume (or hope..) that Google will implement it anytime soon with an update.
? I get LED notifications for SMS..

Getting led notifications for native SMS normally
I think OP meant there are no -options- for LED notification for SMS messages. At least, that's how I interpreted it.

OP said LED notification doesn't work for SMS. It works for me, but I'm using GO Sms pro and not stock.
Works for me to on stock
make sure pulse LED is selected in the settings, otherwise it wont but still works under 3rd party apps
It also works for me, that's not how I understood OP's problem. My point is that there are no settings for the notification LED in the SMS app. You cannot enable/disable it there, or choose a color.
sms native led works.gtalk led works.gmail led doesnt work (why?). twitter and facebook didnt test it and dont want it.missed calls led doesnt work (bad bad bad) most probably because of the screen on?
works here nativ too.
maybe faulty handset?

WARNING: this app has serious compat issues with ICS.
It can cause your screen to not want to turn on again. I had to battery pull and then uninstall before the app started.

Yep.read few posts with problems came from light flow
You're right it does work I thought it wasn't working at all... but my other point where you cannot customize it for the SMS app is strange for having a brand new OS designed for a phone that has this feature.
I definitely don't want to install a 3rd party app for this.
thanks to all.
I am quite sure Cyanogen 9 will have that... CM7 does...

Just some additional info on this, based on my experience:
I had the same happening to me, but only after I went to "General Settings->Additional LEDs found" and checked the box (I did that because I thought something isn't working right, but turned out I was just too stupid ;-).
My guess is that what's listed there as an LED is actually the main display, and checking the box messes things up.
Since rebooting (by pulling the battery) and unchecking that box again, everything works perfectly.
Also, if your GN is rooted, Light Flow will ask for superuser rights. Decline that, it's not needed on the device (everything runs well without su rights, as far as I can tell)
Even the Nexus One didn't have built in options for the notification light. In fact, it wasn't until much LATER that someone realized that it can do different colors.
I think CM7 is the only rom that had the notification LED settings built in at a kernel level. Other roms required the use of 3rd party apps (which killed the battery).
Coming from the original Galaxy S which did not have any notification lights, I still prefer the NoLed application instead of the led light. NoLed allows you to see the contact photo as the indicator that you have an sms message.
I use SMS Popup. It is a great utility and it supports LED Notifications

I haven't seen any LED notifications. Gmail, sms, or with go sms pro. I tried testing notifications and nothing happened. LED tester verified that the LED is in fact working though. So odd.

[Q] change light and vibrate notifications settings?

so my phone (like all) get notifications when i get new mail (have gmail and ymail app) then social networks (facebook/twitter) then sms, how do i control what color the led turns? and how can i control whether it vibrates or makes a sound?
LightFlow
download and installed but says light flow needs to monitor everything i type??! including passwords...
Its not a malicious program, I've been using it for a loooong time, many others do too.

Did you read the FAQ?

Notification LED doesn't stay on?

I realised that when there's a notification, eg SMS, the LED notification goes off after a few seconds. This is horrible, cause most of the time I will glance at the LED to check if there are notifications for me before turning it on, and now I can't do that. Is there any way to make the notifications stay on permanently until you have cleared it?
I'm pretty sure there's apps in the Play Store that will fix this for you
I use mysms and that one can change LED color and time. But then you use mysms instead of LGs sms app. Mysms is like a sms cloud app so you can read and send your sms from computer or tablet.

S9 LED Indicator

Hey everyone. I'm coming from phones that haven't had always on displays so I didn't really think it was necessary but now that I've turned it off I noticed that when I get notifications the LED doesn't work for anything except my work e-mail through the outlook app. No gmail, allo, hangouts etc. I've also turned off edge notification and tried toggling the LED notifications, rebooting and a bunch of other stuff. Am I missing something simple? It seems like I should be able to get an LED notification for everything even if they are the same color.
Edit: whoops i totally meant to post this in the questions forum.. if the mods could move it that would be great >_<
I've got the same issue, I can't find settings to adjust led
really would like to know this...always have the AOD off

You have to do it in the app settings by going to settings/app/ pick your app then go in notifications /notifications /importance and change it to urgent.
I've done this but it's still not working !

Sorry! Working here
Mine is working, but I noticed that there seems to be a timeout on the LED. So if I don't clear the notification or look at the message or email then LED will stop flashing ( approx 30 minutes). During that time I have opened the home screen and dragged down notifications view from the status bar, but as I said I have not cleared or viewed emails or messages
Well, i'm happy it's working for you but in my case it seems gmail app don't accept led notification at all.

Yes you are right , just tested and sent an email to my gmail account and the LED does not flash although I get a lockscreen notification . However I also use the samsung mail app to get gmail and when that synchronises with gmail, then the LED will flash.
I had a look at the settings in the gmail account , but can't see anything obvious

Yes, Samsung email app is working but take's so much time to synchronise, i hope Google will found a fix soon because Gmail app seems to have this problem with Oreo because not only Samsung phones have that issue!
I use an app called Light Flow, it allows you to set notification colours for various apps, e.g. Blue for Facebook, Green for Whatsapp. I absolutely love it, can see what notification you have just by the flashing colour
Just got S9 two days ago .
Can the Lightflow App enable the LED to flash notifications while screen is ON ...
BUT Always On Display is off. ?
I was also wondering the Lightflow App says it needs control over notifications and messages calendars etc. Is it reliable enough to not miss an appointment ?
