Hi, I got the HTC desire during the week and all going great so far except issues with connecting to my Wi-fi at home.
On initial setup i had it scan for my wireless signal but had to manually enter it, network is not hidden. 3 laptops, PS3, PSP, DS all have been able to see it and connect in the past. Anyway, connected through WPA and was able to connect to the internet and market fine.
The issue is it keeps dropping the connection, signal bar stays as if connected but all pages timeout. turning the wireless on/off does not resolve, sometimes turning the power on/off will sort it, most times not. I drove to work last night, 25km and it said i was still connected to a network untill i disabled the wireless on the phone in the carpark !!
I have trawled the net and have come across known issues with other HTC devices and wireless networks but most of the fixes i tried have drawn a blank so far, bar hard reset.
Unsure if it is settings in my router or the phone. One thing i did notice is when it was connected and i went to the settings>wireless and networks it was smooth like the usual progs on the phone, but when i cant connect and go to the settings it is serious laggy.
BB is Eircom, netopia router.
Phone is Vodafone.
Any other info needed just ask, could do with a fix for this before i pull my hair out.
edit: downloaded a wifi analyzer app and it says my signal is very weak, even sitting on the router, it is either the router sending the wrong signal or the hardware on the phone i think.
Anyone have to chage their wireless settings on the router to get the desire to connect ? If so, to what ?
Update.
powered off my phone and ran the wifi analyser again, same thing, -98db.(red, no signal)
powered off the phone again, and was hitting -40db sitting on top of the router and ~ -70 2 rooms away(green/yellow) and internet pages were flying, this is what is happening, may stay for 10 mins and go again.
Another update:
I had a good connection so changed the sleep from 1 min to 30, checked the sig strenght every 15 mins, surfed a few pages and all fine. Changed the sleep back to 1 min, let it sleep, came back 5 mins later and wifi dead again. this leads me to taking the router out of the equation and phone based issue.
Wifi issues
Hiya,
I had exactly the same problem with my desire. It is on Orange UK and came withall their crud on it. I spent two days playing around with the router settings and phone settings. I could connect to the router but not use the internet. In the end I followed the links on here to erase the orange crud and install a generic rom. After that the phone connected to wifi internet and telephone internet and switches between them without any problems whatsoever. I did wonder if it was a ploy by the telecom provider to get you to use more of their online data rather than over wifi.

Thanks for the reply Len.
It is a vodafone phone (Ireland) Non branded, no vodafone sortware as far as i can see.
Some Info: Firmware 2.1 update1, software 1.15.405.4, browser webkit 3.1
Ok. So the weirdest thing happened. Yesterday at home, my phone was on WiFi, but my laptop wouldn't connect. Then out of the blue, the laptop just connected.
Now my phone, and even my mom's phone (same phone) won't connect to our home WiFi. There was NOTHING changed about our WiFi. Our phones just won't connect.
My mom has stock everything, so kernels or ROMs aren't the issue here.
This sounds like an issue with our router. I checked to see if our MAC addresses were blocked, and they weren't.
When connecting, it says
"Obtaining IP Address..."
--attempts to connect--
"Disable, secured with WPA WPA2 PSK"
After it attempts, this is what it says. Normally it'll state something like Connected 2Wire628.
BTW, this info is under "Wireless and Networks", and the listed access points, it gives you a brief description of what's going on under the SSID names.
So it's as if I typed in the wrong password on my phone. Obviously that's not the case since the phone just upped and stopped working. And yes I "Forget" the network and reconnected all over again, only for nothing to work.
And suggestions?
BTW, we have a 2Wire.
P.S. I haven't tried another WiFi, yet. This just happened tonight. I'll update when I can connect to another WiFi.
Sounds like a router issue.

Similar has happened to my 2wire, first time it got fixed by holding reset button down about 15 secs until lights start flashing, then unplug for 30 secs ,plug back in and all good.
Second time had to call my isp and they replaced it for free (router was about 2 years old) ...
Let us know how it goes ...
Here's the deal: my S2 keeps disabling its WiFi connection. I’ll be connected to my router for a while, sometimes for 12+ hours at time, when all the sudden my S2 will lose its WiFi connection and switch to 4G. When I go into my WiFi settings, it will say that my router is “Not in range” and show no other available networks (even though there are dozens in this area).
I can sometimes get my connection back by toggling Airplane mode or “use packet data” on/off. But nothing works %100 percent of the time. I don’t think it’s a router issue either because we had 4 smartphones in this house over Christmas and the only two that lost their WiFi connection were my and my wife’s S2s.
Anyone else encounter this?
(p.s. Phone is stock, by the way.)
If you have the Tmobile my account disable or uninstall it.I made a thread about this awhile back. It has something where it needs to stay connected to 4g or intermittently puts data on and cuts wifi off I used to have this problem before not no more after uninstalling it.
Thanks, sarni. I read your thread a couple days ago (when I was trying to figure out what was going on), but I'm not sure we're having the same issue. My WiFi and 4G icons aren't on at the same time, for instance.
The other problem is that I haven't rooted my phone, so uninstalling T-Mobile's "My Account" app isn't an option.
Yet.
Happening again now.
Phone seems to be stuck in the following loop: scanning for available WiFi networks, seeing them all, locking in on my WiFi network, trying to obtain an IP address, then back to scanning again without a connection.
No toggling of settings broke the loop until I powered on/off.
I was connected to my mother's WiFi at her place and she has terribly slow Internet so I forgot her network to just stay in mobile data. 10 minutes later I got the authentication message for her WiFi, and 5 minutes later I was connected again. Checked my WiFi list and it shows it as an available network, but not connected. I have tried connecting with the wrong password, forgetting a couple more times, no matter what I do it still connects to her damn WiFi. What can I do (other than turn my WiFi off, obviously) to block this network?

That's strange. Never hear of that issue before. Have you tried to use an app like WiFi Ruler to block it manualy? Just set the "closed" rule on the network and save.
Did you ever find a solution to this? I have almost an identical problem. In my case the wifi keeps trying to connect to the network in my old job.... even though I'm sitting in my apartment with my own wifi network. I have to manually connect to my wifi, but then 5 minutes later the phone will complain that there's no Internet connection. When I check the wifi settings it's once again trying to connect to my work wifi
My HTC M8 was normally able to successfully *forget* wifi networks until the recent upgrade to OS 6.2 (which broke so many things I've lost count). NOW, although I still have the "forget" option by long press, the network just keeps coming back and it blocks me from connecting to the valid one instead.
Has anyone been having any issues with the WiFi randomly cutting out?

Mine did it twice today, whereas my G2 would know to reconnect upon scan...
Hopefully this is just a one. time thing.

Hopefully your issue isn't as serious as mine is. I literally just got off the phone with T-Mobile and they will be sending me a replacement phone.

I had this issue with my first G4, but i sent that back due to damaged leather back i have had a couple times with the second one where the wifi acts funky, not a problem but def like wtf moments
No problem with disconnects here.
Mine definitely disconnects and reconnects randomly
My verizon g4 disconnects periodically. Should I be ordering a replacement?
I haven't seen this with my H811 G4.

Only had the phone a day so haven't seen this yet but i did get it randomly with my G3. I could never figure it out. A quick on/off of the Wi-Fi fixed it quickly. Router is Netgear Nighthawk. About 8 other Wi-Fi devices in the house and never seen it on anything else.
I've been seeing this on my H811. It's nothing major but it does cut off then quickly reconnect after several seconds.

Mine also does this on the T-Mobile version.
H810 here. My G4 seems to strongly - and I mean really strongly - favor mobile data. My house is festooned with wifi access points and yet my G4 often turns its wifi radio off and I have to manually turn on wifi, then manually connect to a nearby access point. As I move through the house, rather than connecting to an access point with a better signal, it shuts the wifi radio off, altogether.
The G4 has shut its wifi radio off while I've been in the process of selecting a wifi access point. It's shut its radio off right after I've selected the access point I want and while I'm booting up the web browser.
Today, at work, the G4 is continuing to seemingly randomly shut off its wifi radio. When I manually turn it on, then select the access point, I find the phone has forgotten the password.
Very frustrating.
As an experiment, I have now shut off mobile data, to see if that will coax the G4 to seek and maintain its wifi connection. But there's no way I'm going to spend my day turning off or on mobile data, wifi radio, etc. I'm already manually turning Location on and off, to preserve battery power.
had wifi issues on the 2 g4's i've had. sent first one back due to damage to back cover on arrival. Glad its not just me having wifi issues
Having these issues as well. Rebooting my router sometimes stops it from happening, but quite frustratingly, the phone gets very hot (and discharges quickly) as a result. Have had a hot, dead phone before.
Most of the WIFI routers have different type of connections G / N / B, The N type is not a !00% compatible with our G4, therefore I suggest you to change to B/N, after I change the protocol, I havent see the WIFI issue so far.
I had Wi-Fi disconnects because I had turned on the advanced option to automatically swap to Mobile data on weak Wi-Fi signal. After that was turned off, the Wi-Fi worked as it should.

Where is it said that our phone isn't compatible with N?
From http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_g4-6901.php : WLAN Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, hotspot
I found that disabling ipv6 on wlan0 fixed my slow wifi issue, but still getting the disconnects. (it reconnects automatically though)
http://i.imgur.com/HUDYd71.png - I have a script to disable ipv6 at every wifi connection.
Every instance of SManager is my wifi reconnecting randomly in the house yesterday at my desk.
I have had this issue on my H811 since new. It does it more on 5 Ghz than on 2.4 Ghz, but it still happens. It's more common at home with my Asus router than at work with the Cisco APs they use.
After the latest update I have noticed that the iPod touch I keep in the car disconnects from the hotspot on the phone way too often. This never happened with the previous build, but I also didn't have xposed installed before. Has anyone else noticed any issues with their hotspot?
I got an LG G4 on Friday in the UK and it is running version 10D.
I am encountering this issue and I am finding it extremely annoying - did anyone find a resolution?
It is so frustrating it is getting to the point where the phone will be going back for a refund. It does it at any location with WiFi I go to, so I know it isn't a configuration issue on my WiFi at home.
I'm having this issue too all of a sudden. First thing I noticed was excessive battery drain. But every few minutes it connects to a different ap in my house. Other phones and devices don't do this. Time to dig.
