OK so i let rom manager update clockwork recovery and now I can get into clockwork recovery but when i pick an option my screen goes black. I can hit home or power and it goes back to the first screen, but I can't flash or get access to anything past the first screen.
Lol, we need to make this issue into some sort of slide joke (anyone?).
Anyway, 2.5.0.1 doesn't use the power button to select things anymore. Use the trackpad on your phone to scroll and select things. We all freaked out the first time this happened to us

I did this too when I first got the slide. You can still use vol keys to select but power button won't get you anywhere, nor will home or menu haha

Currently running CM7.1rc1. I've got Clockworkmod 3.0.0.8 flashed.
I'm trying to reset my battery stats, but when I reboot into recovery, whether it be directly out of CWM, or by choosing reboot > recovery after holding the power button down, or by holding power + volume down while the phone is off, CWM is unresponsive. The initial menu comes up, but when I select an option and hit the power button to select it, all I get is a black screen with the ROM Manager logo showing. Pressing the power button again will return me to the initial menu, but nothing else happens. I have to remove the battery to reboot the phone.
I have tried flashing older versions of CWM, which don't work, and I've also tried reflashing the lastest CWM. I have "erase recovery" checked in the settings menu. I've tried flashing the alternate recovery, but that fails.
Any thoughts on what I can do?
You need to press the trackball instead of power to make selections.
Man, now I feel like an idiot. Thank you.
yeah, was gonna say you use the trackball to make selections in CWM.
i did the same thing lol

Hello everyone!
I've been trying to find anything about this issue, but nothing seems to work.
I had OTA 2.3.4 android on my t-mobile g2. So i have decided to downgrade it, to install CyanogenMod.
So I followed this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
Everything went fine.
Then rooted it following this guide http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_G2:_Rooting
Then this http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Vision:_Radio_and_CyanogenMod to install CyanogenMod, but ClockworkMod doesn't seem to work. When I do Wipe data/factory reset, anything in Clockwork doesn't work. Even reboot or power off. This icon with yellow cirlce with hat on it comes on and does nothing. I waited like 20 mins, still nothing. If I push power button it goes back to clockwork recovery with all these options, but nothing isn't working.
I installed it using Rom manager, so its last version 5.0.2.0 (first i had 3.xx version but it acted the same way).
(oh by the way, i tried update it using OTA update from air, it freezes when HTC logo comes on and does nothing, factory reset is the same way)
I have root and S-OFF.
Please, guys help!!!
Disregard this first stuff, although it is probably a good idea to use a 3.x.x.x recovery anyways atm.
Are you sure that you were unable to use CWM recovery properly when you were on an earlier version like 3.0.2.4? The 5.x.x.x versions are a bit buggy I wouldn't bother with them at this point.
Go into ROM manager, hit menu > settings > 'Erase Recovery' set to ON.
then, go back to the main ROM manger screen, hit 'All ClockworkMod Recoveries' > select '3.0.2.4' > OK.
You will then see a progress bar at the top, and then a message saying you've successfully flashed recovery. Now power off, hold vol. dn + Power and enter the recovery again. Try doing some functions and see if it works.
Don't try and do a factory reset etc. through CWM if it does work though, the first thing you should be doing is going to 'backup and restore' > 'backup' to make a nandroid backup of this current setup. If successful, THEN you can wipe data and try to flash the CM7.zip.
----------
Not sure if you're aware either... You should be using the trackpad to select items in the CWM recovery. Not the power button (turns on/off screen) or menu button (shows/hides menus) or anything. Scroll with the trackpad and press down to select highlighted items with the trackpad. The only 2 buttons you need in CWM recovery for 99.9% of operation is the trackpad and the 'back' button.
----------
Also as an aside, don't try to accept any OTA's or anything. They won't work and may cause issues when you're rooted.
BTW disregard most of my previous post. I'm 99.9% sure you're just hitting the menu button thinking that its selecting things, but the MENU button just hides the menus, it doesn't select. Like I said, use the trackpad to select the menu items!!!
As I said in my previous post though, I want to reiterate: do a nandroid backup before wiping data. Its just a good idea to have your rooted 2.2 ROM as a nandroid backup to return to if something goes wrong with the flash. Just make it easy on yourself and do a backup, THEN wipe data and flash your .zip.
Duh, stupid me! Its working, actually it was working all this time. I was pushing a wrong button, power button. Use a track pad! Dumba**
Thank a lot!

Of course, glad you figured it out. Be sure to make a nandroid backup before and after flashing CM7 .
I am new to the E4GT, just got it. I just rooted using sfhub's method and everything worked fine. Installed lastest CWM.
Now when I went to try and flash a rom I have the hardest time pressing home and getting it to register as enter. I can tap it a million times and it won't do anything. After about 30 min I was finally able to flash caulkin's but I'm afraid to ever go back into the recovery because of this.
Is this normal? is there a fix?
edit: actually, now that I booted up, my home button is still very wonky. hit or miss. Only began doing this when I rooted. should I take it in?

Hey, I am in no way an expert on this, but in CWM I never use the soft keys on the bottom of the phone. I use the volume rockers to navigate up and down and use the power button as "Enter." Hope that helps, if not, I'm sure someone who's more knowledgeable will help you out.

That is odd. Only time the power button goes back (for me at least) is when it's physically on the "BACK" option. Sorry dude, maybe someone else can help you out with this...
I found a video that shows how to enable the power button as an enter button. Got it figured out.

Hello, this is my first post here and I'm hoping I can get some help. I spent most of last night searching for an issue similar to my own but I was unsuccessful.
I rooted my G2 and have installed mimicry. However, I am having issues with CWM 5.0.2.7. Whenever I choose to reboot into recovery, the main CWM menu shows up fine. However, if I choose any of the options (e.g. install from SD/card), it takes me to a blank screen with the CWM logo on it and nothing else happens. The phone is stuck on that screen until I take the battery out and reboot. Any ideas on what could be wrong?
Thanks.
are you selecting with power button or track ball?
also consider a touch recovery as you have a touch screen phone.
and more specifically my guess is you will be much happier with 4EXT RECOVERY

Haha, wow. I used the track ball to select and it worked. All the guides I've read said to use the power button to select. I really appreciate your help.
Had to edit your quote because it won't let new members post outside links.

You need to be a bit more clear as to what you mean. What does "page appear" means? Do you mean you can get into recovery but can not do anything there, like choosing an option there? or you can't even get into recovery?
If you can get into recovery, how do you choose options? You need to use volume up/down buttons to navigate and home button to select an option.
If you can not get into recovery, Take your sd card off, and try again. I somehow had an issue where I can't get into recovery due to a problem with my sdcard. But once I took it out, I was able to get into recovery.
Hope you can solve your problem.

what do you mean by the "left button" you mean the "menu" capacitive button? What happens when you select an option with the "home" button?

yes, i mean the capacitive button. when a touch the home button nothing appens. but i know that i should touch the left capacitive button to start the option that i chose in the recovery button. when for exemple i chose option "reboot now" after i touch the left capacitive button apears in screen still image with a "hat and circle arrow" nothing more appens then if i touch the left button or the power button i go to recovery menu again. to leave this state i have to take off the batery.

Ok I am confused about the buttons you use.
Just go up and down by volume up and down buttons. Once you are where you want to be, hit the home button ( middle hardware button, not the capacitive buttons) That should do it. If it still does not work, you may consider flashing recovery again.

I still am thinking you are hitting the wrong buttons.. Attached is the pic to show which buttons to hit. If you still can not work it, you can flash the recovery again (See Below)
You can always flash recovery and don't need to be in recovery to do so... For a guide please go here and follow the step described in step 2. If you are not familiar with terminal emulator and/or you dont have busybox installed, you can follow here to use adb to flash recovery.
Hope this helps.
I am still not sure what your problem is...Good luck.

Good to hear but you should look up that problem with your home button. If your wonder one day fail to boot, you're pretty much stuck.
