Btw... Wrong *cough* section *cough* *cough*

sorry about the wrong section guys!!! i really am.
I have tried RUU and every time i run it, it gets to the end and says no phone connected even though it shows the ADB and a bunch of letters and what not after it showing it saw a phone.
I can boot into bootloader and or fastboot but not recovery. and i cant get anything to push over via adb when i get to those screens.

Grab the latest pc36100.zip and put it in the root of your sd card.
Hold volume down +power till it loads bootloader. It'll load the stock rom back automatically and youll be fine. And dont root friends devices cuz as soon as they screw it up they'll blame you...trust me

If you had an issue trying to root the first time it might be a good idea to let him root his own phone. If you root a phone you understand the process he doesn't. What if you break it for good you have an extra $450 laying around?

I used YouTube and just dl the exe and that was that. Rooted and happy .my two cents

Were you running an RUU when thus happened? Was that how you were getting back to stock? How long has it been on that screen? If your sure its stuck, and is idle, I would do a battery pull, and then see if you can get to the bootloader. If you can, try running the RUU again, but put the phone in fastbood mode when you run the RUU. See if a second time gets it.

I was running ruu and it failed. i have tried several times since including battery pulls and no luck. I keep trying to get to the bootloader but its stuck at that screen. It does not show up in my computer either when i plug it in but using an ruu still works.
When trying to get to bootloader, did you push power / volume down after phone was off? If not, pull battery. Put back in and then power/volume down.
You probably already did this but it sort of sounded like you tried getting to bootloader from the screen you were stuck on.

The error i get when ruu fails is error 110 file open error. The rom update utility cannot open the requested files or the files are damaged. the ruu cannot continue with the update. Please get a complete ruu package and try again.

When you shut your Evo off, and plug it into a wall (AC) plug, do you get a charging led? If you can still run an RUU, it sounds like maybe the one you are using is corrupt, or the wrong one all together. Do you know your bootloader version, software version, and radio versions? Likely you need to download the RUU that matches (or is very close to) your current versions.
I'm on the app, but would otherwise link you to a thread. In the dev section, search for "supersonic shipped roms", thread started by Esp28

Yea, the rooting world between different manufacturers differs greatly, apparently. The state you're currently in, you probably have no choice but to run the RUU again. Once you get it to successfully run, and you boot up, back to stock, you'll most likely still be S-off. Now, that's not necessarily bad, unless you're going to take your evo into sprint for any reason. If you leave it S off, if you ever want to reroot, all you'd have to do is flash a PC36IMG of a custom recovery, using the bootloader. At that point, you could flash a ROM or whatever. Also, if you do want to return it to S on, once the RUU completes and you can boot, flash a PC36IMG of a recovery, using the bootloader. At that point, flash the unrevoked S on tool, using recovery. Once you confirm that S is back to ON, then run the RUU again. Then you'll be back to stock, unrooted, S on.

I'm confused, haha. Nothing bad will happen with the RUU when you're sleeping? I think you do need some sleep brotha! Once you successfully run the RUU, and return to stock, you'll most likely still be S off, since you didn't flash the S on tool. This mean's you'll be on a stock ROM, with S off, and no recovery. Nothing bad will happen by leaving it like this, so long as you don't take it to Sprint with S off. Now, if you do just plan on staying stock for a while, you may want to return to S-on, just in case any unpredictable catastrophic events occur, you're better off having S-on, in case you need to take it back to Sprint. You can always root again rather easily. So I guess my suggestion is to flash a recovery once you're up and running, flash the S on tool, and then run the RUU again. Just to be safe. If you want to root again, you know how
Edit: ^^^^All that is providing you get the RUU to run successfully, which I think you will. You just need a good copy of the right version. If that doesn't work, don't forget you have other options. Such as flashing an RUU as a PC36IMG from the bootloader. Also, you can run an RUU with fastboot. So there is a plan B and C if that doesn't work.

hey guys i bought this evo off ebay for 100 bucks. the guy tried to root but failed. which made the evo a "soft brick"
S-ON so its not actually rooted its still stock
hboot-2.16.0001
radio-2.15.00.05.02
when i tried to boot normally by just pressing the power button it come to the screen saying evo 4g then it goes black and comes back to the evo 4g screen. its in a loop
i tried this guide from another forum
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ht...568-how-unbrick-your-soft-bricked-evo-4g.html
unfortuneately it did not work.
this is my first android device. but i did flash/root lots of winmo phones which is kind of a similar process.
so any ideas that could help me out to try to get this workinng again?
thanks alot
you can't root your phone yet. and since you have s-on you might want to take it in. have your tried and pull the battery and boot up?

how can i boot without a battery??? i doint understand
well pull the battery out to stop the bootloop then put it back in and reboot
tried that now and its not working..I guess ill just go to the sprint store tomorrow.

Radio Update Brick

Hello all, I am starting a new thread because the search is down and google is failing me.
I just updated to the newest radios with the combo zip in fastboot. no errors but upon completion i opted to reboot, shows android with box and arrow.
Am I officially bricked?
I can no longer access hboot, recovery, nothing.
plugging it into usb while hitting power or while android guy is up doesn't register anything on my pc.
any help is appreciated while the search function is down. ( already pricing another one )
for reference i was running cm7 stable with stock cm7 kernel, and was on Radio_2.15.00.09.01.

If it completed successfully there shouldn't be any issue.
So when you turn it on it will boot to an android with a box and an arrow and just stay there forever?
If you can't access your bootloader or anything then it is likely you're bricked.

NVM all is well, i let it set for a few minutes. im ignorant i guess. thank you all for the help, you saved the day!
As Khilbron said, That is the screen that you see when it is updating the radio. It takes a while. Let if finish. Pulling the battery while it is flashing the radio is one of the only ways that you can truly brick your Evo. As long as you see that screen when the Evo powers up you may still be ok. Just let it finish. If you get nothing at all when the Evo powers up, just a black screen, then you are likely toast.

I am glad that it worked out for you. I will have to admit that I kind of freaked out the first time I flashed the radio when I saw that screen but I did not touch it and it finished while I was googling to find out what was happening. I have no idea what HTC was thinking putting up a screen like that... why not any text along with the graphic? It would save many bricked evos.

Soft keys flashing then to CWM 5.8.2 cannot install rom

I'm fairly a noob when it comes to rooting and whatnot, however i've learned quite a bit since i've started. I rooted nexus s with no hassel. My friend the other day gave me a LG Nitro HD, the phone boots shows the LG logo then goes to the Clockworkmod touch 5.8.2. I have tried installing roms on it, it will install the rom and run then when i try to reboot, the soft keys will flash for 2 mins before showing the LG logo and going back to the Clockworkmod again. Keep in mind there is nothing on the SD card besides the signed_HO!NO!_p930 i have tried other os's too. I don't know exactly what he did to his phone. Please help me out. Thanks a bunch guys

I am having the exact same issue here for two days now... I did a full back up prior to flashing yet still nothing and no matter what ROM I try I wind up back in CWM....
I am going to stop bye a shop were I know a guy that does rooting and such and take the phone to see...Will keep you posted from this side anxious to read what others may say.
Try following machzelets or mattman86's unbricking guide. Well thats if you can get into download mode.

I know I cannot get into download mode, Will be interested to see if Lugman can or not ... So unbricking is not an option at this point for me. Tried that yesterday also.
Lugman please post any progress sounds though we are in the same river of CWM... Why the HOX is so easy compared to this ....
Try charging it then do a battery pull then plug in the USB while holding the volume update. This should bring up a screen saying download mode. Then unbrick from there.

Download the drivers and have a blast... I dropped mine off at the shop to see if the guy can do something... He mentioned that he has seen some of this going on with CWM sticking he tried some methods and a couple different ROMS and also nothing. So I left it hoping I get the call that all is well in the AM.
Anyway GOOD LUCK ..
Thanks alot man, am gonna try all this out and see how it all works. I appreciate your help. am gonna post here what the progress is and whatnot. so check back!

Someone responded to you in the other thread and you never said anything back.
You need to outline exactly what you did, and exactly what is happening on your phone. Speak in complete sentences. People can only help you if you explain your situation clearly, because we're not in the room with you.
you are asking for help ? do it in the Q&A section, its made for a reason
and as been said above, you got responded there so keep it there. not reading those helpful hints there yet making a new thread in the wrong section is not correct !

You need to install TWRP, before you can boot into TWRP.

If pressing vol down during a reboot doesn't get you to bootloader, you did it wrong. You either started pressing vol down to late, or let go too early (don't let go until the bootloader screen appears). Just try again, until it works.
