Fm transmitter?

Is there ever a possibility of hacking the evo's fm radio to become an fm transmitter?
Sorry if this is duplicate, searched around and didn't see anything else on it.

I highly doubt it. Taking a screen and making it into a camera is pretty much what your asking. Maybe you can buy a portable FM transmitter and somehow cram it into a external case that sticks out similar to the 3500mah battery.

no the hardware actually says its possible to transmit as well as recieve fm radio. now if someone could actually make it work....

radio transmitters and receivers aren't fundamentally that different. It's likely possible, but you would need to write it into the kernel.

I would love to see this happen and show it off to a friend that works with the Civil Defense.

No can do. A radio receiver, and transmitter do contain some of the same circuitry but are arranged differently. No software can change that. Plus the phone is not FCC type accepted for transmitting on the FM broadcast band.

The phone has an FM Radio Transceiver capable of both broadcasting and receiving. I believe the major reason why we haven't seen a transmitter mode, even HTC, is due to FCC licensing. I'm not too savy on the FCC's world, but I would imagine that the EVO's transmitter would fall under the same low-power group as those little iPod and other PMP FM transmitters that just plug in to the headphone jack.
Might be something to bring up with Cyanogen and some of the kernel devs, after they get the FM receiver working.

I'd like to see this... Bring it up to cyanogen...

Some of us have cars which are too old to have an Auxilary input, but too new to have a tape deck.

Ha! I read some other posts, and realized that it would definitely be a handy feature. I resigned myself to burning CD's from my music collection, as it got annoying to connect my iPod to an FM transmitter. Extra wires, chargers, and so on.
Well, hopefully someone figures it out. Probably kill the battery though.

I would suggest a hardwired FM modulator to add an aux port. My wife's 2004 Mitsubishi Endeavor didn't have one and the FM transmitters sounded crappy to me. Took me about an hour to hardwire a FM modulator in and now she essentially has an AUX port. It sounds much better than the transmitters since it's injecting it's FM frequency directly through your radio's antenna port.

The drawback compared to a FM transmitter is that this is not portable.

Another possibility is to just purchase a new radio. Some car stereo's with aux inputs are cheaper than a new EVO.
I stopped using my FM transmitter with my iPod a long time ago because I hated the extra cables, and the transmission wasn't very good, though I tried several.

Is there some car audio manufacturer that actually makes nice stock-looking radios with features like BT, equalizer, and aux-in, without having to have 20 blinking LEDs or looking like it was part of a boombox from the 90s?

[Q] FM Transmitter for the Thunderbolt

Hi everyone, this is my first ever android device, loving it, especially with Car Home and navigation. I got a car kit (mount, charger etc) for my Thunderbolt and now the only thing left is getting a good FM Transmitter.
If you have any recommendations for an FM Transmitter to be used with the Thunderbolt, please reply here. Also if you do use one currently, let me know.

They are all pretty much the same. It's going over FM so sound quality won't be as good as it can be. Any ones that I used with past phones were the same quality (audio wise) whether it was a $10 ebay brand or a $50 Belkin.

Yes, I would like to know this as well, since I do not have an AUX plug in my deck.
Does anyone have any exprerience with a specific dock that has an FM transmitter and powers the phone, as well?

The sweet spot would be bluetooth streaming audio like Ford does with Sync, but such systems aren't nearly as available as they need to be for someone without that installed :/

Thanks everyone for the helpful tips + suggestions. I have decided from reading these replies that I'm going to hold off on getting an FM transmitter for now. I have a friend who is very good with cars and he told me he'd be able to install an aux input into my car for whatever the part costs me off ebay. I think I may just go with this option.

I just order this today. I'll update with how well it works after a few days with it.

Going that way will get you much better audio quality than an FM transmitter will.

If you're stuck with using an FM transmitter, then the best one you can get is the Scoshe (I think that's how you spell it) *WIRED* FM transmitter from Wal-Mart. It runs off a 12v line (pull out your car stereo and cram or splice the wires into the 12v input and the ground), then it actually plugs into the back of your stereo, and your antenna plugs into the unit. When you flip the switch, it basically kills your antenna, so you can't get any interference at all. It is the absolute best FM transmitter you can get (as far as I'm concerned).

just get those mp3 player to tape-deck things, if you still have a tape deck in your car. it will be way better quality than FM transmitters.

I've seen these on crutchfield but I think if you're going to go through all the trouble why not just jut a new head unit in that has AUX? If you MUST go FM I'd do it this way but honestly it's as much work as a new head unit which would give you better sound quality than your stock stereo anyway.

Actually, I found the cheaper "ebay brands" to be better than the expensive brands. I had a run where I was buying new ones about every two months to use in my work cars, and the best ones were the ebay 7 dollar ones from Hong Kong. I have no verifiable proof of such, but this is my opinion which it seemed the OP asked for. Make sure you get one that has selectable bands though the entire fm range.

After about a week with this transmitter, I can say that I'd recommend it, for the $ it's fantastic. I've tried $75-100 ones from Best Buy & returned them within a day. This transmitter works much better than any of those.

Honestly I just use the jabra cruiser. It has great battery life and has a built in fm transmitter. It work perfectly for me and I have very little interference with it. I use it to stream music on a 4 hour drive I make once a month and with the HTC car dock my setup couldnt be any better, full gps navigation via car speakers and live streaming radio thanks to tunein radio pro.

FM transmitter

So here's my problem.. I've got an aux port in my personal car which works great for my commute to and from work but once I'm in my work car I lose that ability..
I've purchased a cheap FM transmitter from ebay but there's a lot of static.. anyone have a suggestion for a good transmitter that's not ridiculously priced?

I have a belken one that doesn't have that much static. You can go to belken website and they give you suggestions on which stations are the best to use in your area.

Best bang for your buck is a device that uses bluetooth to grab the music and then has an FM transmitter in it... like the blackberry VM-605 .. that way you can use it in your house too.

yep, which is almost pointless (for this topic) because aux ports are in a lot more head units than bluetooth

i was able to get away with a cheap one from walmart ~$20 and it worked great for me even used it on a trip that i was in the back and phone was 10-15 feet away from the antenna and i still had very little static.

Get a blackberry Bluetooth gateway. It plugs in to your aux port and connects to your device via Bluetooth. I use one with my stereo and used to use one in the car until I upgraded the car to a Bluetooth ready system. It will connect to any Bluetooth device that supports a2dp.

I went to Wal-Mart and in the Ipod/headphones section found a good FM transmitter by Griffin. It plugs into the cig port for power and then plugs into your phones Headphone jack. a little time playing with different stations and you can find one that works real good and is nice and clear.

this should be exactly what your looking for, its still a fm transmitter but besides bluetooth or aux you have no choice but to use fm transmitter, the reviews on that looks great (saw on amazon)

The best ones to get are the ones from crap storeslike big lots and etc. The cheaper the better for some reason. You have to remember that truck bridges and heavy metal objects will obstruct it. I personal have an M gear. For it from big lots for $4.99. But in the end they all suck.

I picked up a motorola roadster for a steal at a verizon store, was about 50 bucks there (they kind of screwed up a lot and tried to charge me about 300 dollars more on one bill, raised hell got credits for accesories) and the thing actually works pretty well. There are a few minor issues with it, but those are easily solved and the sound quality is actually surprisingly good over FM.
Now there is the problem with degradation of sound when broadcasted over bluetooth, then over FM, but unless you are an audiophile and have high end speakers in your car (and i'm assuming you aren't because you were asking for an fm transmitter) then I doubt you could really tell the difference.
Another handy dandy feature of this device is that it searches for OPEN fm channels so you aren't manually tuning one frequency by one and instead looking for a frequency you can actually break through.

The only problems I have with this unit is sometimes the BT disconnects for a second or so then it reconnects, but that only happens like once a week. Also sometimes coming out of sleep mode it won't kick on the FM transmitter. This is fixed by unplugging, turning off, waiting a few seconds then turning the device back on again. Other than that, this would seem to be the perfect solution to your problem.
I have also heard great things about the GOGroove Flexsmart X2, but have not tried it out so I cannot give an honest review of it.

I tried the flexgroove it worked great with Bluetooth for the exception of no bass output. Speaking on it was not great but that's just my cars power outlet location making it to far for people to hear me. My brother got a jensen kit from amazon with steering wheel controls and separate lcd to see songs,calls and phone book that one worked great the Mic was external.

Cassette Option?
If your work car has a cassette tape, the best solution I have found is this:

I don't remember which one I bought, but I got it at Wal-Mart a few years ago and it works perfect. You don't have to worry about traveling through areas where the FM stations change, and you don't lose any quality by transmitting over the FM signal.

[Q] Car mount with charger and FM transmitter

Hey guys! I am looking for a carmount that fits the SGSII and has
a charger mounted to the mount like this

But i am very tired of all the cables hangin from my SII (charge the phone and for an external FM transmitter, wich also needs 12V charging, so i also need a double 12V output as for today). Therefore i am currently looking for an ultimate cardevice that mounts my phone to the windshield, charges the phone, and also tansmits the sound (no problem with a small 3,5 mm jackcable to the jackslot) to my incar stereo. Has anyone seen something like this anywhere? I have searched around the web, but couldnt find something.

This is the first holder Ive found that doesnt require you to plug anything in everytime you get into the car. Trust me its worth every penny
I should point out i've run 1 audio lead out og the holder to a transmitter under my seat and the charger is plugged in too , all the wires are tucked away mainly out of sight

Also having the same issue.
Got new SGS2 for my wife and she wants something similar she had on 3GS in her car.
Looked around and see nothing. Car dock look sweet but FM transmitter sucks. Never ever.

I've been using the Motorola t505 fm transmitter since I had my sgs1. Before the sgs2 came out.
Always worked flawlessly and battery life is amazing.
Bluetooth music streaming works well and never had any complaints from the person on the other end of the call.
My next upgrade will be Bluetooth streaming and hands free via a new stereo.
As far as an all in one charger cradle fm transmitter. Check ebay. There are several. Can't say whether they are any good though. Cheap prices may mean crap fm quality???

Are you currently using the T505 to make calls as well? I can hear the other party just fine but they cannot hear me. Does this happen you you?

i'm saying something stupid, or the fact that our phone has fm radio, wouldn't make it possible to, i don't know, share it with the car radio? With some hack... Sorry, I really don't understand anything about it, just asking =D

Ive read that the hardware is capable of being an fm transmitter but haven't seen anyone try to write an app yet.
Ive got an LG touchscreen phone that does it but thats the only device ive played with that has done it. Works ok too.

FM Transmitter

Hello, I'm looking for a FM transmitter for my phone that I can use with my car. It has to be inexpensive and I only want that particular device, not one of those DVD products. Does anyone have a product in mind that they use? Can you charge with it as well? Thanks.

VR3 FM transmitter works great. Tried a.couple others but they were staticy and volume was low...only use vr3 now.

I have a scoshe (probably spelled wrong)and I've tried an as seen on TV one, (I think it was Jupiter jack). I'd recommended you avoid those and, I never use it cause of lots of static. It made me miss my old cassette adapter cause those worked really well.

I am not sure how much you consider as inexpensive or expensive but I use the GG-FLEXSMART-X2 from GoGroove. I picked mine up for about 40 bucks and the sound quality is great. There is everything you want an FM transmitter for your car including USB for charging, a 3.5mm headphone jack, rewind, fast forward and pause buttons, also volume control. I used to try a whole bunch of FM transmitters but sound quality and build quality this one is the best one I have used so far.

Motorola T505. Bluetooth and auto-scan for FM channels.
