[q] i really hope someone has an answer to my question. - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the evo.. ok.. so you know when u put a background picture? u can never put the whole picture. then when you are flipping tru the home screen back and forth, the picture moves from left to right also.. am i making any sense?
SO.. IS THERE ANYWAY YOU CAN PUT A WHOLE PICTURE IN THE BACKGROUND WITH OUT MOVING WHEN U MOVE BACK AND FORTH IN THE SCREENS..

In not too sure about setting a full picture, maybe it depends on the size of the picture. I bet if it was a smaller picture you can set it whole. And as for the picture moving, I'm pretty sure its somewhere in the settings.
Sent from my EVO's 4G You?........I thought so

Picture size: When selecting the picture, drag on one of the sides of the selector, and you will be able to make the selector bigger.
Swiping: That's a per-homescreen setting. I know ADW and LP+ let you turn that off, not too sure about Sense.

If sense won't let you prevent the wallpaper from scrolling (other launchers do) then try using a wallpaper thats 480x800.....

As far as using the whole picture, just resize it (using Paint or Photoshop or something) to 480x800, or 960x800 if you can't get the scrolling to turn off. Then you'll be able to use the whole thing.

as he stated wallpaper scrolling is not a native feature of sense... the other two launchers r u only choice if it's a must for u... it will save on some RAM but other than that it's purely aesthetics.

THANX SHOOT ME WORKED without ROOT even though it said ROOT required but landscape doesnt work im using the launcher 2(nexus one 2.1),i guess ROOT enables it or jus another special setting.thanks
You can also try Helix launcher from the market. It works in landscape without root and has a nice permanent dock bar at the bottom for your most used apps. Pretty convenient despite being a derivative of the iphone. It still feels like Android
Cool ill give it a shot on the helix launcher

Stop tilt?

I've tried Google without any luck..so I'm guessing this is a no..but I'm trying to find an app that disables tilt in certain situations only. I know I can disable tilt thru the settings..but that disables tilt EVERYWHERE. I'm just looking to disable tilt on my homescreen..while still being able to tilt while browsing Interwebz and whatnot. Seems like it should be an easy enough function..considering BB's have an app for it. Anyone have any suggestions?

Ok 1 - Android is not BlackBerry. Not even on the same level as one another, so just get that out of your head.
Second off, wtf do you mean on your homescreen? Sense doesn't turn landscape unless you changed the Skin to one built with landscape. Just switch it to the stock HTC skin, problem solved, it never goes landscape unless you open the keyboard.
If you're not using Sense (CM 6.1 or something) check the settings, as it usually has a way to disable homescreen rotation in their own personal settings.
Try CM6. It has the option for a custom power control widget to be embedded into the statusbar. You can put a toggle for rotation too. You loose the sense home and widgets though, but imo stock > sense. Or you could try quickdesk and put a rotation toggle widget on it.

Orly? Android isn't Blackberry? Good to know.
So lets begin...in order to "hide" all the bunk apps because I wasn't rooted, flashed, s-offed etc yet (all the things necessary to remove said apps) I had to download Launcher Pro (which was highly recommended). As soon as this was done..then yes..I was no longer able to use stock Sense. So now..my homescreen always tilts on me..which bugs the **** outta me. Could I just go back to stock Sense? Sure I could..but I'd rather have what should be a basic app to allow me to pick and choose where and when I'd like my screen to tilt. And I've grown to like how my homescreen looks over the stock look. Yes..I can disable autotilt in the settings..but then I can't even tilt the screen into landscape for the browser. So maybe I'm missing something here that someone else can point out..

I am on a stock ROM myself still, but I know that Cyanogen has a lot of customisation options. I wonder if it's worth asking in the CM thread over on the G2 side (because the DZ one is dead) out whether that has options that might help you ?
You want to disable "rotation" all over your phone AND to be able to use the browser in Landscape mode.
If that is the only thing you want, you can set your browser to "landscape mode only"
Now if you have a longer list of requirements on what apps get permisions to rotate the screen etc, I think you may bigger problems

there was nothing offensive or said with an attitude in this post. it was only til you noobs came on here with misplaced android pride. he didnt compare berrys to droids. he simply said they have an app for it.
this is a great question. the tilt function seems almost too sensitive. it would be great to maybe tweak it somehow to make it so you really have to hold the phone sideways....instead of slightly tilt the phone. an app to block it in certain situations is good but i feel that id have to micro manage too much to specify every single situaiton id want tilt or not.
for the record... i'm am a die hard android user and his post did not push my buttons at all. this post is very useful.
ADW launcher has an option in system preferences for home screen orientation.
Just change it from auto to portrait, that's what I did.

Wow no one answered your question. Well here it is, when you are on the home screen hit the Menu - Behavior Settings and uncheck Enable Auto-Rotation.
That will disable auto rotation on the home screen. Now go into Settings - Display and make sure Auto-rotate screen is checked. This way you will be able to but your screen into landscape mode when surfing the web or using apps that auto rotate. Now if you want to be able to choose specific apps, that I have no knowledge of doing. Hope this helps.

Glad I could help. I know I was having the same issue at one point in time and it was very annoying. I didn't want to give up on Launcher Pro because the widgets are awesome and it gave me "sense" on my stock android! If you haven't played with Launcher Pro Plus, you should give it a whirl. home screen wallpaper zoomed in?

When I set my wallpaper and go back to the home screen, the wallpaper appears to be zoomed in and only shows the center portion very big. Lock screen is proper size, sometimes.
SOLUTION: For those of you having this problem, I found the workaround for it. Use Home Switcher and switch to Touchwiz, go to home screen and set wallpaper, it should appear the proper size now, go back to Home Switcher and switch to whatever launcher you choose and the wallpaper should stick.

Still, it is silly how they designed the home screen wallpaper settings. There is no reason why we can not set a picture to fit the screen by default stock out of the box. It is amazing how something so simple can be such a pain.

No more forced cropping on wallpapers

The application I want to talk about is PicSpeed Wallpapers.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...1bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5zcnNkZXYud2FsbHBhcGVycyJd
A promising application which offers pretty good wallpapers, in my opinion. However it is more than a simple wallpaper application... Not special in a sense where it gives you super exam cheating skills (which I so desperately need right now)... but it gives you MUCH better cropping for your wallpapers in the Gallery app .
So how do you use it and how much better is it? Well to use it start by getting a Wallpaper. So once you got that on your phone go ahead and open up the Gallery. Find and tap on the image. Now hit the menu button and select "Set picture as" (on ICS) or whatever you need to click to set a wallpaper. You will notice a pop-up comes up. The normal options would be contact photo and wallpaper (and maybe whatever else you have), but now we are introduced with the option of "Set as Wallpaper" - with the PicSpeed icon beside it. So tap it (of coarse). Underneath the image will be three images. The first (left) crops the image to use just the middle (based on dimensions) and is not a scrollable Wallpaper. The second (middle) gives you the traditional full-use of the wallpaper in a scrollable state. The one that is most interesting is the last (right) option. This one offers a custom crop. Which means you can make the wallpaper scrollable or not and perfectly set the crop to whatever you want. So once you use the right custom option go ahead and hit the set option underneath it to the far right.
I think that is amazing finally a way to break the terrible cropping options the Gallery gave us. At first when PicSpeed released an earlier version the wallpaper would auto resize and mess up the image. They have updated the app since then and I no longer have to re-set the wallpaper on boot. Another bug I noticed is I cannot set a Wallpaper 'properly' with the traditional set wallpaper function my phone offers me, after I use PicSpeed to set a "custom" crop. This is easily fixable. Go into Gallery and the set the wallpaper with PicSpeed (again) with the Wallpaper with the traditional (middle) option. Or you can just reboot your phone, either way works.
Well yeah I just wanted to share this new amazing application with you all . You're welcome all! No more terrible cropping options YAAAAY!

Simpler way
I found that the Galaxy app in the S3 only crops to portrait too. Simplest way I found was to extract the Galaxy2.apk from a Nexus and install it on the S3 (or replace it entirely) and us it to set the background. You then get the portrait and landscape cropping so you can then have a decent scrollable home screen wallpaper.

I dont know if this thread is still active, but I have been running into issues lately with pic speed. I have used it for a while (on my original vibrant) but now im getting issues. Im trying set an image as my background and crop it. Works fine. Crops for me I get it smack dab center and everything is nice. I turn on the scroll function because I just want the static image. Spits out the image and my wallpaper is great, but as soon as I turn the phone into landscape mode, regardless if im in an app or not the image gets distorted and its annoying as balls. Can anyone help me out?

My UCCW Skin Collection

I'm in the process of reorganizing and editing my UCCW skins since I know more about it than when I first started. I'll be uploading edited and new skins shortly. The widgets I make currently are all 5x2 size except the Daft Punk skin. That was my first attempt at making an actual skin, I'm still fairly new to this app. I have no idea how to get weather icons to show up again. Once I get an idea I start working on it, and I usually wind up changing a few things before I'm done with it. I'm so indecisive at times it's irritating lol. I'm open to ideas and suggestions, as well as critiques (don't be to harsh, I'm still new).
I was using Nova Launcher with Prime add-on for the Daft Punk skin, Scarface skin, and Elegance Skin. I'm now using TSF Shell which I LOVE for the Mortal Kombat skin, Killer Instinct skin, and Swirl skin. The hotspots I assign and use are pretty much universal. I don't want to "force" you to use an app you may not even want. If anyone runs into an issue with one of my skins, please advise me of it so that it can be corrected. I use wallpapers I've found on the internet and/or Zedge. I'm not trying to take credit for things that aren't mine.

That's a very nice setup you have. You're right, the possibilities are practically endless for this app. I'm still learning how to use it and do certain things with it. I do have a question that maybe you can answer, where can I get additional font files to use for the widgets I create? I happily donated to show support for something that will keep me occupied since I'm constantly changing things around on my phone. I've attached a few examples, but I'm not using them right now.
You can use ttf files, just make a folder called "fonts" on your sd card, I find them all over the net for free.

Thanks for those websites, they've come in handy for me. I have a question for you though, are you familiar with making full screen widgets? I'm trying to make one now and honestly, I see why people just search for themes. I used to have an HTC Inspire 4G so I decided to try and make a HTC Sense 2.1 style widget. I can't get the sizing right, and it's a hassle trying to actually use it. I tried to make it Apex/Nova launcher friendly first because I don't think everyone has/wants TSF Shell. You can see the issue in the screen shot, and to do that I had to enable resizing and overlapping widgets and then send the full screen one to the back. I preferred the sizing abilities in TSF Shell because I can be more precise when adding new widgets/folders/apps but just make sure to add the full screen uccw widget last but even still, there's no send to back option so would the transparency in the widget allow me to use the other items on the screen? I know this is a very difficult and round about way to have a sense style look because there are plenty of themes for it, but I was just thinking outside the box compared to what I've already created.
I haven't really tried anything like that, and I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to do. Are you trying I to have like a wifget-in a-widget sort of effect?

Exactly, I've done it before in Nova Launcher just on a smaller scale and only because I positioned certain widgets on top of others for a look I wanted all on one screen. I've put this particular project on hold until I learn how to use the send to back option in TSF Shell if it even has one.
