Yay another silly question from yours truly!
I have never been a fan of waking the phone up with the power button. The way I put in my pocket and the way I hold it means I have to do a one-handed juggle trick to get to the power button. This is dangerous when I'm in outdoor venues like bar patios, concert halls or walking to or from my car.
I've google searched the hell out of this, is there a way/app/widget that allows you to wake up the phone with the trackpad?
I know there's a widget and an app that'll unlock with the trackball (and soft keys, I think), but so far no successful searches for waking it up.
Any ideas? I'm unrooted, btw.
You are gonna need to be rooted by either VISIONary Temp root or Perm-Root with
a Custom ROM . With Temp Root you will have to run a tp_wake script in GScript
everytime you reboot . Or with Perm-Root and a ROM like CM 6.1 its already built
in
Well I guess I'd better get on that, then, lol. Thanks I'm gonna leave it open just in case there's some app in the market that just came out. All the answers I found were pretty old.

And it passes the lock screen entirely. You rock, thank you!

Well when you want to use the phone you have to press the power button first right? Then slide to unlock.
Is it possible to remap the button to switch screen on from the power button to say...clicking the trackpad? A native way or an app i don't mind. Just seems strange to reach to the top of the phone and i have pretty big hands, it's no problem just me being me i guess.
Download keyguard disabler, then you will be able to turn on the screen with any of the bottom buttons.
Though pressing trackpad seems best as others invoke some kind of action.

Oh that's a shame! Yeah i think any key would cause me to make mistaks while it is in my pocket that's why i would like the trackpad.
I'll live in hope!
Well it was recommended an app called flyscreen but that turned out to be a full lock screen replacement. Not really what I want!
I don't want to give up on this it's my only gripe lol. Anyone any ideas? Or help? Nothing from the Nexus One?
We may have to wait till it's rooted before we get this feature
How about just locking the screen rather than turn it off?

Great way to drain your battery really fast...
If Paul from Modaco gets his Desire it could be rooted very soon. Let's hope so and i want this feature first lol.
Hi,
Is there a way to unlock the screen only by pressing twice on the trackball button?
Ty
I've wanted this exact thing since day one. Now we have root i'm pretty sure some dev can come up with it there just needs to be a high enough demand!
Write access on /system is not required for this ?
instead of pressing the trackball twice you can just click menu
or do you mean twice from when the screen is turned off?
I mean, sreen off -> press trackball twice = screen on unlocked
Can be done with the cyanogen rom for desire
Waking up the screen by ANY of the four HWbuttons would be nice. I remember the Dream, waking by pressing 'menu'.. aah those good ol' days.
Yeah but i think that would cause it to unlock when i have it in my jeans pocket or anything like that. Trackpad to wake is perfect. I'm using The Nex-Desire rom and it has this option.

I couldn't find this app on the Market - did you mean "No Lock"? That seems to do what the OP wants, although it only requires pressing a hardware button once to turn screen on, as the lock is effectively disabled.
This looks easy to be done yet there is no answer...
Confirm, its the "no lock" app. Its free, and leaves your htc like an iphone..

This might be a dumb question, but, on the G2, how do you wake the phone up from standby without actually opening the keyboard?
With the G1, all I had to do was press the Menu button, but that doesnt work on the G2. So far, the only way to wake up the G2 is by flipping the keyboard open, or hitting the power switch.
I don't own the phone but played with one in store yesterday. There is a power button on the top of the phone, this brings it out of standby. I kind of hoped a push of the trackpad would also but it does not.
It really bothers me coming from the Nexus that they swaped sides of the headphone jack and power/sleep button. On most all of HTC's other phones the pow/sleep button is on the top left, perfect for my (smallish) right hand pointer finger. Now that they swapped it to the top right, my world is falling apart...

Hahaha, yeah I'm having the same problem!
I'm so accustomed to having the power button on the left that this phone is completely throwing me off!
Yup... as far as I know, tapping the power button on top will bring it out of standby.
Frustrating not being able to wake it up any other way than the power button or open it up....I want to be able to push the trackpad...anyone figure this one out yet?

this.
and I wouldn't recommend rooting/custom roms just to change how the phone wakes up. not worth it if that's your biggest complaint with the phone.
it's like modding a car... you won't be able to stop until it explodes.

Install NoLock. When you'll turn it on Unlocked, you'll be able to wake your phone with the trackpad, the volume or the camera buttons
I have googled this question in many different phrases and searched this forum as well and can't find the answer...perhaps im just not using the right phrase to search and if this has been answered, i would be truly grateful if someone would provide me a link or just point me the direction to find the answer.
Basically what i want is something that lets me wake the phone up by pushing maybe any of the buttons at the bottom or even the volume buttons. I know there is an app like nolock that does this but i dont want to lose my lockscreen...i just want to be able to wake up the phone without pushing the power. This reason comes from a thread i saw about people getting a crack near the power button and slowly working its way down the screen...so i want to push the button as little as possible. (Im really paranoid)
I got my phone yesterday so im still familiarizing myself with the phone and OS so please excuse my noobness. Thank you for your time.
Hey the app widget locker allows you to use other buttons to wake phone. You should try that. It also gives you different lock screens to choose from. Hope I helped.

awesome. thank you.
There is no way to wake the phone using the 4 touch buttons. They are completely off and unresponsive when the phone is asleep.
Is there either an app to completely eliminate the lock screen?
I'm running CM and there is an option to unlock by pressing Power>Menu or through gestures but either way that's an additional step - just like my rotary unlock.
There's an app in Market called No Lock that does the same thing.
What I want is just press Power and I'm at the home screen. No 2nd buttons, no Menu button, no sliding, no gestures.
And since I know this question will come up, no I'm not concerned about dialing or anything else, capacitive buttons/screen, remember?
Plus I have a case that bevels over the Power and Volume buttons so... yeah...
Thanks!

Hey man, its already built into CM. One of the options for the Notification Power Widgets is to Toggle the Lockscreen. Just set Toggle Lockscreen as one of your widgets in the CM settings, and click it and you can completely turn your lockscreen on and off.

Wow, how'd I miss that..?
But I see it allows you to turn the phone on w/ the volume buttons too... That's not good b/c I usually switch tracks w/ the volume buttons when the phone is in my pocket or when I'm driving - especially when I'm driving.
Any way to only let the power button turn the phone on?

Ye.. I said in the OP that I know about No Lock. The problem with no lock is that, just like the CM no lock option, it allows the phone to be woken up by the volume buttons too. Something that's a major deal beaker for me.
SUPERSONIC via xda app
Auto Unlock. Only the power button wakes the phone. Sometimes, you will see the lock screen flash on before it's dismissed.
