Hi everyone,
I'm trying to flash AmonRa to my rooted Desire using unrevoked but when it gets to the final stage my phone gets stuck on the htc boot screen and I have to take the battery out. I then tried to go into recovery to see if it worked and all I get is the big red triangle with an exclamation mark inside.
Anyone having the same problem or have any ideas of what I might be doing wrong?
Do you have a PVT4 Desire? If so, that's why it won't take...read this for clarification:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=853583
If you're not I don't know as I've never had any issues with unrEVOked and the AmonRA image
Thanks for your reply.
Nope my desire is a PVT1 and I'm running a custom rom so it can't be anything to do with that. Any other suggestions?
Might've helped if you said that in the OP
Only thing I can think of is it being an issue with replacing CWM with AmonRA. I always use AmonRA when rooting the first time so never use CWM

Hey guys! I have no idea where to post, so I apologize if I'm in the wrong section.
I'm very new to rooting and I've seem to come into a major problem. (Atleast in my eyes.) To start off I had gotten my HTC Evo 4g & used the method of UNRevoked to root my Evo. I then found out UNRevoked isn't a full nand unlock & all the nitty gritty, so I came upon Toastcfh's guide to rooting the Evo. I performed half the instructions as told and was then in this boot loop. Right before it happened I (think) I erased the Dalvik Cache, but I definitely hard formatted the whole phone/cache. Anyway as told in the instructions I was suppose to flash the PC36IMG.zip to my phone and I did. Once that all configured it rebooted on itself & now the phone is stuck in boot with stock recovery method. I can load into HBOOT and see that in green lettering it says: SUPERSONIC EVT2-2 SHIP S-OFF, HBOOT-0.79.0000, TOUCH PANEL-ATMEL224_16ab, RADIO-1.39.00.04.26. Please help me. I havent used my phone for a whole day now. :\
To add: Before the PC36IMG.zip got added on my phone, I had clockwork mod recovery. Now I have the stock one I'm guessing. I have tried a stock RUU through HBOOT USB, but the RUU either says some error my phone battery is under 30% (when it's fully charged). Or the RUU will say waiting for device to connect. & I tried putting a rom on my sd card then flashing or whatever and my computer wont open my sd card unless, I put it in the disk reader. Please ask questions, I'll answer as best as I can...thanks!
The current Unrevoked does in fact unlock nand, so you should have stopped there. I am not familiar with Toast's rooting method, so I can't say for certain what happened. The good news is, you are probably fine, you just need to reflash a rom. Since you can't get into recovery, the best way to fix this is to flash a rooted stock pc36img from your hboot. Download the file from THIS THREAD, rename it to pc36img, put it on your sd card and boot into hboot. It will find it automatically and then it will take a few minutes to load it. Once it's loaded it will ask if you want to run the update, choose yes and let it do its thing. When it's done you will have the latest rooted stock rom on there and clockwork recovery. Make sure you delete the old pc36img off your sd card before doing this. Good luck and godspeed.
Did what u said there MetalHead. still getting boot loops at the white htc evo 4g screen and can not get into recovery. Do you have anymore suggestions?
I would try it again but use this PC36IMG.zip instead.

This one is completely stock. You will be unrooted after running it, so you will have to root again.

Hi guys,
I know you guys really don't like noob-questions here, but i'm posting it anyway.
Yesterday I helped a friend with his Desire HD to flash a different rom. But we never came that far, if I start the phone in recovery a little phone-logo will appear with a red triangle. I don't know what goes wrong but this is what we've done:
We started out in the sticky topic (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=936214).
We started by downgrading the phone (followed this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003), this all worked and the phone restarted with a clean downgraded ROM.
Then we downloaded Visionary, temprooted it, and then permrooted it.
Then I flashed the Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_SF radio using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896597
After the phone rebooted, we downloaded ROM Manager (full) from Market, installed clockworkrecovery and tried to boot into recovery but this gave the Phone with a red triangle logo...
Can anyone please help?
this means that CWM is not installed, and your phone still has HTC recovery. Try installing CWM again.
You didn't do s-off?
Make sure you have s-off. I've also seen this when power cable is plugged in.

Thank you all for posting, I think we forgot to s-off the device. We only installed Visionary and expected the device to be ready for cwm, but we forgot the do the last steps in this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=857537
Hey mates,
would be cool if you could help me to understand the connection between recovery and flashed rom...
This is why I'm asking: I rooted my desire a couple of weeks ago (by applying the unrevoked method). Since then I flashed a couple of custom roms. I wasnt very happy because the most roms caused my mobile phone to crash. I thought it was because a broken sd card therefore i bought a new one today. Sometimes when my phone crashed I wasnt even able to enter recovery anymore. And sometimes it did just nothing... I couldnt even enter hboot (it just didnt boot - like it was briked - only the charging led was on when i plugged the charger in). In this case I had to remove the battery a couple of times or plug in the charger. Usually I needed to do this many times. This is btw. why I'm fed up with custom roms but maybe its just my mistake. And now finally my question:
Why can I enter recovery sometimes and sometimes not? Does this depend on the rom? Why do I have to remove the battery etc. to make it run?
I know flashed back to the rom I of which I created a backup after root. But it seems that my phone is more unstable since then (even if its just my rooted stock rom)
Thank you for your answers...
What rom are you on? Maybe your recovery is a bit messed, have you tried reflashing it? Btw, s-on right?
If your not able to get to your hboot then there is something wrong with your phone. It will most likely be able to do with your hardware. You can use an ruu to restore everything back to factory default. You could then root again and see if that will help. But it does look like to be a hardware/corruption issue.
Swyped...
Your Desire maybe being one of the new PVT4 new nand would might cause this. I know that the latest version of unrevoked and Clockwork recovery can't be used to root the PVT4 new nand. I had that problem and the fix for me was to use an earlier version of unrevoked and flash Amon Ra recovery instead. There's a thread around the forums regarding this. Check first if your Desire is of the new PVT4 model. Can't post the link but there's a thread that explains how you can check if your Desire is PVT4 new nand. Would post the link but can't yet, but a quick search should take you to it.
hey guys, thank you very much for your fast answers. The desire is s-on. I'll try an official ruu. If I'm brave enough I'll root again . The strange thing is that I can enter recovery but not always. A hardware issue would be awful. I'll let you know how it went. I hope it is ok to just use ruu to update a rooted rom. It flashes a new recovey too, doesnt it?
Ok, i tried to use ruu to unroot my device. It told me that my bootloader was not compatible and canceled flashing. But it also broke my rom. I couldnt boot the system anymore and i couldnt boot into recovery. I dowloaded a ruu image (with my radio) to flash it via hboot. Everything seemed to go fine but after the first restart i'm stucking with an update sign (i guess its the recovery menu) - a mobile with green arrowrs. I think its frozen. Do i need to do anything else?
Hey, just to keep you up to date. I successfully unrooted my device by flashing a stock ruu. Now its booting (but not always) but it often freezes after a few minutes after the boot progress. I guess I'm going to send it back.
Thank you all for your help anyway.

Yeah best to send it back, it sounds more like a fault with the device
I am a newbie in this rom flashing land.
I managed to root my Desire this morning using unrevoked 3 method. It was successful. I then installed Rom Manager (free) from Market and tried to make a backup. It ran smoothly until the phone rebooted. The reboot looped at HTC logo.
After searching around, I go to Recovery and restore the newly backup image and the phone went back online. I thought I had bricked my Desire already. .
I have the following questions, please enlighten me:
1) What might cause the shocking loop?
2) In the unrevoked 3 program, I notice that the "Disable Security" was checked when I managed to root the Desire. Does that mean I have S-OFFed the Desire as well in the process? If it is still S-ON, how can I tell and if I download a ROM and try to flash it (I still don't know how), will there be any undoable problems?
Thanks
1. Probably ROM Manager - use the flashed recovery - it works all the time.
2. Unrevoked3 does not S-OFF your phone, you need alpharev for that. To make it sure turn off your phone and reboot to bootlader (Holding VOL- and POWER keys). For the ROM part, check each ROM's thread for requirements to avoid problems.
Hi nqk.
I have only been looking into rooting for a couple of weeks and had the very same experience as yourself. (and the security off bit too). Bricked already!!
Before I had S-Off I tried both CM7 and oxygen, they both worked ok, but if your reason for rooting is the gain memory with the desire I would certainly say go down the alpharev road and use a new HBoot.
The stickies on the development section really do explain it well for us "noobs".
Currently I am running Oxygen 2.1.4, Alpharev oxygen r2 HBoot and S-Off running a 1GB ext4 partition.
Just so giddy with the amount of space available!!
I flashed new custom rom with s-on and stock hboot. Everything is fine so far.

few times when I have rooted using unrevoked3.21 and run a backup from Clockwork recovery 2.5.0.8 (?) it has stuck on the htc screen... not a great problem as I have usually flashed it straight after - but still annoying

It happened to me when it was still connected with pc via usb cable. You can try removing that.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere - I have looked through lots of posts for a solution but haven't found one (or at least haven't recognised anything to be a solution) so here goes...
...I rooted my HTC Desire using Unrevoked and then installed a rom called Redux 1.2. All worked fine for a few days, then suddenly my phone stopped booting (it sticks at the HTC logo). If I hold the volume down key when I power on I get the HBOOT menu, but if I select Recovery from the menu i get stuck with the HTC logo again.
Please can anybody give me an idiots guide (I am not a techie unfortunately) to how i can unbrick my phone without access to the recovery menu? Or if this has already been covered, please post a link.
My phone specs are as follows:
BRAVO PVT3 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
I thought I might be able to use Unrevoked to reflash the phone but it doesn't detect when the phone is connected...
Many thanks in advance for any help!
Well sure it doesn't see your phone as it doesn't boot...
Just flash the original rom updater utility from htc(ruu) and you will be back on a working recovery+system. Then you can root again.
Had you been s-off the solution would be simple but since you aren't that's the way to go.
Download the gingerbread ruu from here: http://www.htcdev.com/process/legal_download/152
Noob with a possibly bricked htc desire
Hi Folks,
i am a noob and have just started picking up the tricks of the trade.i have an unbranded htc desire. Was using the HiAPk rom till now. Then thought of flashing the INsertcoin 1.1.2. Created EXT4 for the same and recopied all data to my sdcard. Now when i try to flash any rom it just gets caught at the boot screen. Hi dont have a recovery image. But i do have a nandroid backup. Restoring the backup is not helping as well. The phone is s-off,rooted with clockword recovery 2.5.0.7. i do have access to recovery but, whatever i do, the phone gets stuck at the boot screen. Please assist. I guess this occured when i accidentally selected/deselected hboot/fastboot option? can that be a potential cause?
Why are you trashing this guys thread and starting a new one?
Thanks so much mortenmhp - that's 95% worked in that I do now have a working phone! However, if I select Recovery from the menu on the HBOOT screen, I just get the HTC logo followed by an image of the phone and an exclamation mark in a red triangle.
I just tried rooting with unrevoked anyway - thought it might also fix the Recovery problem - but got the error message "Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?".
Please can you (or anybody else!) advise what I should do to:
a) fix Recovery
b) get Root
Since installing the HTC gingerbread rom my HBOOT is now 1.02.0001 and my radio is 5.17.05.23
Many thanks in advance!
You cannot root your phone with unrevoked. You fave to use revolutionary.

Well the "recovery problem" is not actually a problem. What you see is the stock htc recovery(since you put your phone completely back to stock). You can convince yourself by pressing vol up+power(might be vol down+power don't remember) on the screen with the exclamation mark and you should see the actual recovery menu.
This will all be fixed by rooting, which will also replace the stock recovery with a custom one(clockwork mod).
Since i linked you the latest htc release, unrevoked won't work. But Revolutionary will: http://revolutionary.io/
Just follow the simple directions.
"Bricked" word should be banned on these forums.
You have no idea what are you talking about, it's nowhere close to a brick. People open's a Q&A forums and then they see a **** ton of a "Bricked threads" just scaring them away.
/sigh
Sure but I'm not sure you filling support threads complaining will help I agree though.
