Source codes - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What exactly can you do with source codes? I don't understand what devs mean when they say they'll work when thebsourve code is released

The source code is pretty much what it sounds like. The raw data that makes up the Android build.
The SDK has an emulator but not the basic data needed to develop a ROM.

which apk do i need for htcsense.com

hi,
i flashed on my desire z the latest cm-rom. everything is just fine. but I still want to use the service on htcsense.com (track the mobile, write sms etc.)
is this just n apk in the background, or is it more difficult?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Hmm, I would have thought it would be a lot more complicated, needing the whole Sense framework.
Anyone know for sure ?
Actually, all I had to do was register the phone on there website by creating an account with them. Now I can download wallpaper's, ring tones and use all of the other HTC sense features. Works pretty well actually.

What rom are you running?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
in the signature is written cm-rom.
but how could you register your phone there? when i connect try to let my phone ring, it says "unable to contact phone"
My question was for utorrent. Im running virtuous and all i had to do was register with htc to use all theyre stuff. I was curious if he was running a non sense rom.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
i know you asked him, but i answered for him. take a look at his signature
I'm currently using the virtuos rom with the pershoot kernel.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I just updated today to virtuous 7.3 wich adds the swype keyboard and a whole lot of other tweaks and fixes.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Just to clarify some things utorrent is running a sense rom like myself so we already have all the sense stuff. The OP is running cm so he cant just register like we did. He will need at least some apks probly a lot more then that.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
My mistake I misunderstood.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Its not a matter of just installing a certain apk. You need a sense rom which cm is definitely not. If you wanna try sense I recommend trying virtuous.

How to use porting tools?

I was wondering how to port to the incredible. I have windows 7, android sdk,apktool,smali/baksmali, and 7zip installed. I need to know how to use the tools mentioned and maybe some steps for porting. Modification of apk, jar, .xml, .so files are a must when porting,i just don't know how. Can someone please let me know, even if you want to pm then please do so. Thanks. Oh, afa what device I'd be porting from, not sure. Maybe from the desire or n1.

I did try to google but nit anything on the incredible. I make it a general practice to google and research before I bother anyone on the forum.

Maybe a Rom kitchen will help. I don't have much experience in this area.
It's no bother to people, I misread. rom kitchen sounds about right. you could always just try and theme the ROM you like..
Thanks for the response. What I really need is to know how to use the tools I mentioned. I have a basic overall knowledge of porting but am unsure of how to use the tools

[ROM][4/22/11] CM 7.0.1 pffmod

Mostly this just a feature on their gerrit that is queued up for 7.1 that I really like.
The author of this mod was gracious enough to submit it to the CM gerrit, so I have pulled those changes (http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,4055 and http://review.cyanogenmod.com/#change,4056) into my own builds.
I have tested this with several apps that use ads, and it works flawlessly.
builds can be found at http://xdafiles.net/rhcp/
Will that work with higher than RC2? Pardon the stupid question but I know some other stuff refuses to work on different nightly's. Once flashed where is it at? This is very interesting to me
Yes, you can flash it over any normal CM build, nightly or RC. To access the permission revoking options, you go the "Manage Applications" menu, where you can view all installed apps. In the page for any particular app, it lists the permissions at the bottom, just tap the ones you want to disable and it will strike them through.
awesome, Thanks. I shall do that
So forgive my ignorance but what does it do

Flashed rc3 pff version after nightlies w/o wipe - all works Thanks!
Seems last build for vision (on CM7RC4) is broken and only 60 MB instead of 80MB....

Can we expect update based on CM7 Final?
I was a complete idiot, and i wasn't pulling the change appropriately, so the build was broken for a while, pffmod build has been updated for cm7 final. get it at http://www.xdafiles.net/rhcp/
Sorry another stupid question...
Why is the file so big? Is it a standalone cm7 (I could wipe and install like regular cm zip?)
Do I need ti wipe cache and davilk cache before install?
Yes, it is a full rom . flash it like a normal cyanogenmod rom , no need to wipe.

Thanks for clarification
Is there any way to get the mod on its own?? Cause im using a newer build than the one uploaded...
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
You can compile it yourself.

The mod was supposed to be included in the 7.0.2..why it isnt?

Cyanogen is afraid of the amount of problems this may cause for people that don't know what they are doing. There is an effort right now to put a toggle in place for the feature and I am hoping that the feature makes it in. I am pulling and building with the feature tonight, but I don't know how much longer thats going to be possible. Please tweet @cyanogen if you want this feature in CM going forward.

[Q]location of source code for apps?

I wanted to know where the source code is located for android apps? I want to include a few apps in my repo so a rom can be built with the desired apps. I've already decompiled the apps I want, but am wondering where the source code is stored. Thanks in advance for the answer
Wow, 57 views and no answers yet!

Google android kernel. The site will be something like android.git.kernel.org that's the site. Good luck

Ill look into it. Thanks
You cannot view the source code using only what's on your phone. You would have to contact the developer and ask them for it.
You can use ApkTool to extract the apk into smali format, this is not technically the source code as they are originally coded in Java.
Yea, I decompiled and converted into java. I don't know which part is the source code though. Here is the app I converted: http://www.mediafire.com/?j6ot2ne84r2q87a

I do not see the /src in there. Have to say you picked a hell of a apk to try. And I think you PM'd me a bit earlier in the week??

all of that is the source code...the java files at least...it's pretty much all of what you would have under src/...you would have to use apktool or something similar to get the xml files. Keep in mind that this is not open source code though.

Is it possible port a jb or ics app to gb?

With any kind of knowhow is it by ay chance possible to port a Ics+ app for gb.
Or perhaps I would need the source?
Ř800x
Wish to know too, Greenify on GB roms would be awesome!
Set "android:minSdkVersion="9"" (or 10 for 2.3.7) in your AndroidManifest.xml
inspect the code to make sure you're not calling any APIs that aren't available in gb. If you are, fix the code, either by disabling the relevant functionality or providing alternative implementations. You're also going to have to make some changes to the XML layout files. And probably a few more things.
As far as getting source code, google it, there are many methods, easiest probably dex2jar.
