I got one but sadly does not work with my sony head unit in my car, but it did work with my co workers dock in the office
A little more expensive unit would be the blackberry gateway. Works very well, I have it setup in my car but streaming through pandora/slacker doesn't the greatest with it.
bought one too, friggin sony, thinking about trying a new kenwood deck seeing if that works...
I just bought a Clarion VX709. 7" touchscreen with HSF/A2DP profiles. I should be getting it installed some time this week. Can't wait!

I'm getting one of these and I have a Kenwood deck, I'll let ya know how it goes.
Someone mentioned they had theirs working with their Kenwood. They said returned off something like auto connection or something

i bought the cable to plug into the front USB on kenwoods to the apple 30-pin adapter. I'm going to take it and plug it into the demo unit at Best Buy to make sure it works when it arrives, lol . If that fails, I'll be being getting I think it's a belkin flex dock with aux out, and i'll see if that works.
I am using this in my car with an iSimple AUX/Charge cable and it works GREAT!
I bought two a couple of weeks ago - one for my car, the other for the house. Works great.
So you just plug this into the usb spot on your headunit, pair up for you phone to it and then play music? Sounds too good to be true?
No. You need an iPod cable that accepts audio and will charge the device. Then it will work.

Thats what i meant, muh bad.
Only downside to this is that it won't charge the phone
Bought this a couple years ago back when it was only 10 dollars. Works pretty well. Depending on your headunit or dock, the remote controls to pause/skip tracks also work too.
For those who have it, how do calls turn out? Like if you had this hooked up, streaming music through your headunit..and you get a call, whats it do? If it plays the other person through the speakers, how good is the quality? Does the mic just work off of your phone?
It only supports A2DP so no sound comes through for phone calls. This can only be used to stream music, but the speakerphone works pretty well.

Got ya..ill probably invest in this when i get my new truck, so i can have my ipod hooked up at all times and for those other opportunities where i want to stream music from my/someone's phone.
Yay for usb hubs!
A bit of an old topic, but is this working out for everyone? I might be selling my ipod touch and i need to be able to connect my phone to my cd player, so this is the route i might take.

Forgot to report back with results.
It works great and does what it says. very easy to hook up, but i notice a lack of bass... anyone have a solution for this?
I bought one of these a while ago to use with my old pre. Seemed to work well enough, except that most of the time I actually wanted to listen to my iPod instead of my phone, so I never really used it much. Ended up eventually buying a Sony deck that has full built in bluetooth in addition to an iPod connector, so this little doohickey has just sat in a box for months.
Ooh, I just thought of something! If I combine this thing I never use with this other thing I never use - an iPod FM Transmitter/Remote dongle, I could make myself a A2DP Bluetooth FM Transmitter with remote!
Hey does any one is using your evo to stream music using the bluetooth pair ?
I want to buy a car stereo that have usb and bluetooth ready to stream music from my evo.
I have seen a couple of videos on youtube they have blootooth but no usb I want to have both options
any suggestion it will be appreciate.
I have a Alpine w505 and I use bluetooth streaming but not sure if you can connect to a cable usb. The phone contacts and call logs even transfer.

Care to provide details on the charger used? Does it stay paired/charged long enough to hide it out of sight completely and have it automatically work when I turn the car on and hit play on PowerAmp?

I just went to walmart and found an old nokia charger that has the same plug size as the belkin (had to pick it out with the belkin in hand, was kind of an "i hope this fits" purchase). Got it home, plugged it into the cig lighter, got power and everything worked fine so I hardwired it to the headunits remote power wire (the blue one for amplifiers) and have everything tucked nicely behind the dash. It turns on automatically with the radio, so all you have to do is turn on bluetooth on your phone to pair it and your good to go!

Nice!! I'm still factory stock with a ghetto rigged aux in to my cd changer, so this might not work for my situation since I dont really have any amps hooked up to trigger power.

You can tap the charger into any 12v power source in the car, the amp wire was just the easiest for my situation. There are ignition wires you can tap into, or even find the power wire for the stock radio. Just grab a volt meter and start testing around, you'll find something. You can even tap into the cigarette lighter wires if you need to.
EDIT: Just copied the how-to I typed up a while ago on my car forum to a new thread here in the evo forums so more people can see this.

Eclipse CD5030, if you can find one. Works like a charm.
Sony MEXBT
By far the best sound over BT.
Thanks guys i have a lot of homework to do then. what do u guys think of the DEH‑P610BT
I have this: http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs...10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921665755310 . Bluetooth streaming works great, comes with an external mic you can mount on your visor for calls, can connect to like 10 devices and has an internal phonebook you can transfer contacts into so you can call from the deck. I just get in my car and it's connected, press play on either the deck or the phone and it starts playing(if I'm using bluetooth audio as the source on the deck of course.) It also works amazingly with my iPod, supports just about every function you can think of with good navigation and even has a mode where you can restore control of the music to the iPod itself in case you want to hand it to someone who doesn't want to figure out the deck's controls. You just plug it into the front with a standard usb port and it works.
I think there's also a cheaper version that has a smaller screen with less info, but otherwise nearly the same functionality. I know Sony has some other ones now too that can actually hold an iPod within the deck itself now too. I don't think they have a cd player though.
Unless you guys are running Cyanogen, doesn't the BT sound like crap with the low bitpool? I've played with a few A2DP devices with the Evo (headsets mostly), and the sound was un-listenable. Distorted, compressed, and very lo-fi. It was much better with CM, but I like Sense.
I order this model Clarion CZ500
I decided to give a shot to this model Clarion CZ500 after many days of searching and reading reviews of a lot of car stereos.
The Clarion CZ500 it seems very stable and have what I am looking for it.
I will let you guys know how everything goes.
Sony XAV-70BT
Just got it from sonicelectronix
for 400. Sweet system. No nav but everything the 1000$ model has.
Nice sounding streaming too!!
Depends on if you want double din or single as well. Jeep for me so double din.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I just installed the Clarion CX609 (double din) from SonicElectrolux. It sounds great, I couldn't be happier. Comes with a mic that you can put wherever you like.
I have a model EXTREMELY similar to this:
Sony Xplod MEX-BT3800U
and I LOVE it. The only one thing I don't like is that it's VERY bright, but I drive at night so that makes a bigger difference to me than others.
I just installed a DUAL XHD7714. $120 at best buy. It has every feature I would like. Bluetooth, HD, front USB and Aux inputs. I'm pretty happy with it.
So here's my problem.. I've got an aux port in my personal car which works great for my commute to and from work but once I'm in my work car I lose that ability..
I've purchased a cheap FM transmitter from ebay but there's a lot of static.. anyone have a suggestion for a good transmitter that's not ridiculously priced?

yep, which is almost pointless (for this topic) because aux ports are in a lot more head units than bluetooth
i was able to get away with a cheap one from walmart ~$20 and it worked great for me even used it on a trip that i was in the back and phone was 10-15 feet away from the antenna and i still had very little static.
Get a blackberry Bluetooth gateway. It plugs in to your aux port and connects to your device via Bluetooth. I use one with my stereo and used to use one in the car until I upgraded the car to a Bluetooth ready system. It will connect to any Bluetooth device that supports a2dp.

yea, but if his company car dont have an AUX port, I seriously doubt that it would have bluetooth...
I went to Wal-Mart and in the Ipod/headphones section found a good FM transmitter by Griffin. It plugs into the cig port for power and then plugs into your phones Headphone jack. a little time playing with different stations and you can find one that works real good and is nice and clear.

I was actually thinking of buying this for myself, according to reviews it seem great
GOgroove Flexsmart X2 Advanced Wireless In-Car Bluetooth FM Transmitter with Charging, Music Control and Hands-Free Calling Capability for Android, iPhone, Blackberry and Windows Smartphones
I cant add the amazon link sadly since I dont have enough posts, but google
GOgroove Flexsmart X2 and you will find it.
this should be exactly what your looking for, its still a fm transmitter but besides bluetooth or aux you have no choice but to use fm transmitter, the reviews on that looks great (saw on amazon)
The best ones to get are the ones from crap storeslike big lots and etc. The cheaper the better for some reason. You have to remember that truck bridges and heavy metal objects will obstruct it. I personal have an M gear. For it from big lots for $4.99. But in the end they all suck.
I picked up a motorola roadster for a steal at a verizon store, was about 50 bucks there (they kind of screwed up a lot and tried to charge me about 300 dollars more on one bill, raised hell got credits for accesories) and the thing actually works pretty well. There are a few minor issues with it, but those are easily solved and the sound quality is actually surprisingly good over FM.
Now there is the problem with degradation of sound when broadcasted over bluetooth, then over FM, but unless you are an audiophile and have high end speakers in your car (and i'm assuming you aren't because you were asking for an fm transmitter) then I doubt you could really tell the difference.
Another handy dandy feature of this device is that it searches for OPEN fm channels so you aren't manually tuning one frequency by one and instead looking for a frequency you can actually break through.
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Road...7KOK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1308640277&sr=8-1
The only problems I have with this unit is sometimes the BT disconnects for a second or so then it reconnects, but that only happens like once a week. Also sometimes coming out of sleep mode it won't kick on the FM transmitter. This is fixed by unplugging, turning off, waiting a few seconds then turning the device back on again. Other than that, this would seem to be the perfect solution to your problem.
I have also heard great things about the GOGroove Flexsmart X2, but have not tried it out so I cannot give an honest review of it.
Heres the link for that one: http://www.amazon.com/Transmitter-H...erry-Smartphones/dp/B003PPGOC0/ref=pd_sim_e_3
I tried the flexgroove it worked great with Bluetooth for the exception of no bass output. Speaking on it was not great but that's just my cars power outlet location making it to far for people to hear me. My brother got a jensen kit from amazon with steering wheel controls and separate lcd to see songs, calls and phone book that one worked great the Mic was external.

Cassette Option?
If your work car has a cassette tape, the best solution I have found is this:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Car-iPo...sette-Adapters/abcat0307013.c?id=abcat0307013
I don't remember which one I bought, but I got it at Wal-Mart a few years ago and it works perfect. You don't have to worry about traveling through areas where the FM stations change, and you don't lose any quality by transmitting over the FM signal.

Search eBay or amazon. I have one from miccus that I use in my range rover. No issues. If I'm streaming music via Bluetooth and a call comes in, it hands over the call to the factory Bluetooth radio. Once calls are over, it automatically switches back to music.

It's very small, and you can use it without the power cable to reduce clutter. The battery lasts ~6 hours. Sound quality is good, but it won't turn on automatically when you start the car.

Ok I'm assuming you want it for your HTC One. Because, HTC One has Apt-x compatible bluetooth 4.0 and that is a god bless. Even iphone 5 doesn't have it. But, you need to have an apt-x compatible device at the other end too so that you'll fully utilize this cd quality sound option.
Simply put; what you'll search for is an apt-x receiver. Try Avantree Cara, Kinivo BTC450 or HTC Stereo Clip (A200). They all are aptx compatible and with the HTC One they sound beautiful. BTW HTC Stereo clip only streams music.
I've chosen Avantree because it had better reviews.
Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. A2DP is old news.

I like that one from the Amazon link that doubles as a hands free calling adapter as well. I had no idea these things existed. Im going to follow the thread a bit more and do some research into them. I am VERY interested in using this method. Coming over from an iPhone I miss the single cable to control and charge my phone through my stereo in the truck. I didnt think of that when I was getting my Android phone. I guess I assumed that the USB cable would work like it does on the iPhone once I plug it into the USB port on my stereo.

I've been using this one in my car, very nice, audio quality is good thanks to being able to handle aptX. The dongle has an onboard microphone that you can use for calls, and also has two buttons at the top for previous/next track when playing music. Overall, pretty nice.
(Argh, I'm not allowed to post links yet, so search Amazon for "Kinivo BTC450")
I have two issues with this particular bluetooth adapter. The first is that it only remembers one device pairing, so you'd have to go through the whole pairing process if you wanted to use other devices with it. The second was that in my car, I experienced a ground loop buzzing. I can't really explain to you what the phenomenon is, and it doesn't happen in everyone's car, but I ended up getting one of these which successfully got rid of the buzzing. You plug this thing in between the bluetooth adapter and your AUX port.
(Stupid post limit! Search Amazon for "PAC Ground Loop Isolator for 3.5 MM Applications")
I've been using this for a few months and it works well. Powered by a car adapter, so depending on your setup it might be more wires than some like (the inside of my center console has a power adapter so that's where it's powered, but your situation may vary...). It looks like it's very similar to the Kinivo Phamwich posted.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CLYJ2I
I would also recommend a Ground Loop Isolator - I have to use one on mine to prevent the buzzing as well. I use the same one Phamwich linked:

I actually have used both the Kinivo BTC450 and the Belkin one linked by evancg, here is my comparison of the two:
Belkin Bluetooth Car Hands-Free Kit
Worse audio quality than the Kinivo.
Magnetically attaches to a self-adhesive disc that you stick on your car, so you can stow away the dongle if you want.
Only one large, single button to answer calls or start/stop music.
Can remember more than one device pairing.
Kinivo BTC450
Better audio quality than the Belkin due to aptX.
The dongle has a self-adhesive back so it's stuck directly on your car.
Has a large face button for answering calls and starting/stopping music, and also two dedicated buttons on top for previous/next track.
Can only remember one device pairing, so it's inconvenient if you're using more than one device with the Kinivo.
Overall, I like the Kinivo over the Belkin because the audio quality is better on the Kinivo, and it also has previous/next track buttons, so I can change tracks without having to reach for my phone. I only wish the Kinivo could remember at least two or three device pairings, though, since I also have an iPod, iPad, and a few other phones in my household.
I have the Kinivo BTC450. I drive a lot for work, and it is great! No problems at all, some say you may need a ground loop isolator, but I didnt. Calls are clear on both ends, and audio quality IMO is on par with hardwired.
Bluant Ribbon
http://www.myblueant.com/products/headphones/ribbon/
A little on the pricey side, but worth the cost. Aptx capable, streams music, calls, navigation, notifications, had built in Mic for calls if you have headphones plugged in, goods battery life

I need to change my Car Stereo and I'm wondering about this solution: instead of using the AUX Connection from the Nexus 5 to the Car Stereo it would be amazing to use a Bluetooth connection.
This could be a good choice? how about the audio quality? I have tryed it with my old HTC Desire and a entry level Car Stereo and the audio quality was awful...
It has gotten much better. I use it in my car regularly with an aftermarket head unit that supports the latest Bluetooth technology. I run speakers and an amp with a sub. I also have an aux cable going to my glove box. For me the difference isn't great enough because I use the Bluetooth and never use the aux cable.

I actually use a bluetooth dongle which I connect to my cassette adapter in the car. Very cheap way of getting bluetooth music. The audio is decent as well.
throw Viper4Android on there and it's perfect. If you don't root, it'll still be just fine.
Bluetooth is the pits I've speakers that are BT or hard wire and there is a world of difference. The speakers are Bose so it's not quality
From my paid for buggy ass XDA app...
I have a stereo which sends audio and video over HDMI via a slimport adapter. The later version can also do A2DP audio over bluetooth to be connection free.
It also uses the phone's navigation software, so its never out of date. If you have a rooted N5 then you can basically display your phone and all its functionality through the HU. Have a look at the Pioneer AppRadio's and ARUnchained app on here.
I have a Bluetooth FM transmitter and it works quite well. Plugs into the cigarette outlet and has a USB port for charging. The sound quality is good. Beats listening to FM radio that's for sure. I got it on amazon for around $30 if I remember correctly.

I put a clarion double din unit with Bluetooth, in my wife's car. What it lacks in audio quality(it doesn't lack much) it makes up for with the fact that I don't have an extra cable running to the phone/head unit. It really nice to get in and have the two devices automatically link up.
I am obsessive compulsive over tangled cables, or just cables in general so I also enjoy not having to remove plastics from the dash to run a aux cable in a clean manner.

G1 has it right. If you tried in the last couple generations of bluetooth stereos it was pretty mediocre with lots of drop outs. But, personally the stuff from the last couple years is great. And the convenience on new phones that have good enough battery that you can go zero cables for short/medium drives is awesome.

Thanks all for your experience sharing, from what I understood there's then no big quality audio problems with Bluetooth.
I'm thinking about to upgrade my old car Stereo with an ONLY Bluetooth receiver, I mean that I want to throw away the entire old head unit and add a Bluetooth receiver that I could plug direct to the ISO 10487 connector. Did someone know a product like this one I'm searching for?

I have a JVC head unit, and I listen to music, podcasts, and navigation through Bluetooth. It's not the best unit either. I don't have a bluetooth enables stereo in my car but I have an aux input. I bought one of these, plugged it into the aux port and connected it to my phone via bluetooth. The sound is actually really nice.

Thanks, but both solutions (car head unit and bluetooth receiver with aux connection) are not what I'm looking for, what I'm looking for is a bluetooth receiver that could be connected directly to the ISO cables of the car, so I could throw away my old car head unit.

I get what you are wanting now. Just today, the same thought popped into my mind because my car stereo is having issues. I thought of bypassing my stereo all together and hooking up that bluetooth adapter directly into the system. But I'm not a stereo guy and havent looked at the connections in my car yet.
I found this but don't know if it would work at all.

EDIT: Never mind. That's for a Smart car or something. lol
Yep, what I would do i bypassing the stereo completely. I have all what I need on my Nexus 5, without the Car Head Unit I should no more fear thief and the internal look of the auto will be more cleaner.
Up!

BlackBerry has you covered my friend. If the old head unit has red/white splits or if you can hack it up get this http://shop.crackberry.com/blackberry-music-gateway/9A172A11438.htm
You can probably get it much cheaper from amazon. I have it powered from the USB port on my stereo and I hide it behind the stereo.
