can someone post a nandroid stock backup file. my phone is basically screwed right now. and clockwork recovery isn't letting me flash any roms. but it will still let me restore nandroid. plz help.
I'm pretty sure you can't use someone else backup. I assume you did not backup and now can't flash a new rom. Look out up but believe your best option is to adb push amon recovery, rename it PC36IMG and flash it through bootloader. Then reboot into recovery and flash new rom.
Just a newbie though...
Good luck!

If it wil let you restore a nandroid, why not restore one of your own? You did make a nandroid before you started screwing with your phone, right?
I'm assuming no

Can't use another phone nandroid, it will mess you up more than you already are. Flash a stock rom and re root.

I have some general questions about what to do after a flash, in case any kind soul "in the know" would care to reply:
1) Every instruction set says to make a Nandroid backup. I assume this is in case something goes wrong with the flash. If you have a bad flash, or don't like the new rom, do you just restore your nandroid and you are done; or do you ALSO need to reflash your prior ROM first, and then restore your nandroid.
2) I have nandroid backups, titantium backups ("all data and all apps" natch), mybackup pro ("apps and their data") ... once you flash a new ROM, what is the best way to put all your apps back and get up to speed? I have to assume you DONT want to restore settings from one ROM to another.
3) Very similar to #1, if you like your stock and you flash a ROM and configure it too and take a nandroid backup (so you have different ROM's nandroided), do you simply restore the nandroid to switch between the two, or do you have to re-apply the dev's ROM first.
Thanks!
U can be on any ROM at anytime and restore a Nandroid backup with no real flashing of any ROM or data wipe or anything, i.e. u backup CM6 and install the new froyo with sense and if u want to go back to CM6 just restore ur nandroid backup, done. Sorry so short. Battery is dying

If that didnt help, Google "what is nand unlock XDA EVO" tons of threads come up.
Nandroid basically backsup all your info. So if anything bad happens your phone will be restored to its last backup. As for installing roms. Download ROM manager. Goto install Rom from SD card. Locate the zip file and check both boxes. Making sure you backup your apps to your SD card via titanium backup. And contacts via export contacts. This will wipe all data and cache. And Nandroid backup your phone

Yes. If you rename it, do NOT put spaces in the file name.
i got all the answers you need. pm me if you have more questions.
nand unlock lets you alter the system partition (software) drastically and to your heart's content.
your phone crashed because you are on stock (i am guessing) but you need a de-odexed rom to flash a theme. deodexed means the .odex files that hold stuff for apk files are combined with the apks. so they will not contradict causing crashes. MAKE SURE TO WIPE DATA CACHE AND DALVIK CACHE TWICE EACH THROUGH AMON RA RECOVERY AND MAKE A NANDROID WITH AMON RA RECOVERY. ALWAYS HAVE AT LEAST ONE BACKUP MAKE WITH AMON RA RECOVERY ON YOUR SD CARD IN CASE YOU LOSE YOUR 4G RSA KEYS AND YU WILL NEVER EVER BE ABLE TO CONNECT TO 4G
When you flash anything. Whether it be a Rom or any signed zip file. The easiest way is through Rom manager as I explained. "Nandroid is a set of tools that will enable anyone who has root on their Android device to make FULL system backups, in case something goes wrong or you want to try out that new experimental ROM/theme." -cyanogen.

So I was using Nandroid to backup everything, but then I switched to clockwork and upgraded it to the newest version in ROM Manager.
I want to flash the recovery I made yesterday with nandroid. Ive switched back to Nandroid in the rom manager but it still wont flash the recovery.
How do i get my nandroid backups installed again?
Clockwork wont be able.to restore nandroid backup. You must switch back.to RA recovery to do.this. Clockwork makes a different type of backup format n its located under clockwork folder.
You can use Rom Manager to switch back to RA Recovery

I have switched back to RA recovery via ROM Manager.
I get part way through the recovery and it says "oops, something went wrong".
RA Recovery is at v2.2.2, when I was in the process of recovering before I got the oops message it says RA Recovery v2.3.
Is it possible I am using a version of RA to restore than the version I made the backup with, causing me problems?
Really appreciate it.
Still can't get this recovery installed.

In order for you to flash your recoveries you need to go back to Clockwork Mod recovery v. 2.6.0.1. It's at the bottom of the article by Koush. Flash it, reboot, turn off your phone, and then do a manual restore of your backup from recovery using v. 2.6.0.1.
Here is a PC36IMG.zip if you want to go that route instead.
I got the 'oops' error before....I solved it by wiping all, flashing a rom.zip then once booted back up I was able to use my backups with no issues

Hi,
From one ROM i do a nandroid backup and install a new fresh ROM..
And all my apps are on sdext in my old ROM.
So can i restore my apps directly reflashing sdext.img taken from nandroid backup to my new ROM???
Use Advanced Restore in Clockworkmod, which has the ability to restore a single partition of your choice.
Alternately, use fastboot. (fastboot flash sd-ext sdext.img), but I am not very sure whether it is capable of sending a huge img file over fastboot, Google doesn't seem to help either, but, in any case, trying it out shouldn't be harmful.
However, I can't say for sure whether your purpose will be fulfilled by the process you are following or not.
thanks 3xeno for the suggestion...
currently using CM7 wit CustomMTD... i ll try it wen i get a new sense ROM...
I found a new app today called app extractor, it allows you to extract single apps+data from a nandroid backup.

Oh... i ll give it a try...
Samsung apparently does not allow you to boot into the bootloader on their phones. I am trying to return to a different kernel I was using previously, which was contained in a nandroid backup. However, to my understanding, restoring a nandroid backup does not restore the kernel, and you have to extract the boot.img and flash that by itself.
What is the best way to go about doing this without fastboot?
Also, I don't suppose "restore boot" in nandroid advanced restore does this now, does it? Can't find anything on it online.
From what I recall, restoring the nandroid backup would restore the kernel. What recovery was used to create the nandroid?

I used CWM. I read in several places (forums) that it didn't....Hm. I mean I have the boot.img from the backup, so I have the kernel right there. I suppose I could find some way to make it into a flashable zip, but I was just wanting to see if anyone knew a way around that.
But if you are confident that the backup would restore the kernel, do you know if I could restore just the kernel from advanced restore? It'd be fab if I could keep /data the same, but not a must I suppose.
I use TWRP on an HTC and just restored a nandroid backup. After restoring the backup, the previous kernel was restored too.
I don't have any devices at the moment that use CWM.
Not sure about just restoring the kernel. Any particular reason you just want to restore the kernel?

I started getting some problems after flashing a custom kernel and I want to revert to the previous one, the default CM one, to test if my problems are related to that kernel or not. I suppose I'll look into making the .img a flashable zip then, unless anyone else knows of a better way. I'm not familiar enough with Odin to know if you can flash a .img in it.
There's that "restore boot" option in the advanced restore menu on CWM. Do you have any idea what that restores? I want to naturally say that it probably restores the boot.img, but I have searched and searched and just cannot find anything online about what that actually restores.
Nandroid backups created with CWM need to be restored using CWM.
Sorry, not sure what the advanced options will do but you could try different ones.
Restoring boot in advanced nandroid restore restores the zimage and initrd.gz. The kernel. Thus, I suppose a full restore will restore the kernel. Perhaps there are exceptions for certain devices. Restoring boot got me where I needed.
