Hi,
I am new to rooting Android although I have had a ton of WM devices in the past.
I finally rooted my MT3G Slide and installed Cyanogenmod. However, I need Google Apps and cannot install. I have downloaded the file and placed on my SD card without renaming it. When I boot into recovery there is no place for me to select which zip to install, therefore it tries to install Cyanogenmod again. How do I install this, I need it???!!!
Thanks for helping a newbie (to Android anyway)

the process goes like this... you go into recovery from reboot menu on cyanogenmod right? then you select apply update.zip and if you are booting into clockwork recovery (wich is the only file that should be named update.zip on your sdcard ---> [get it here and rename it to update] then you should be able to select a zip from sdcard. then you just move around with the volume keys and select the file with power button, the file is named google addon mdpi something wich you can get here
I hope this helped, i explained as much as i could xD
Got it, Thanks!

HI, i am new here and i found this forum very informative.
i rooted my evo but i cannot figure out how to install themes i found here so please help
also i cannot find goole search by voice anymore. where can i get it again and how to install it.
please help, i spent the last few days trying but i cant find instructions for the themes.
thank you
Most of the themes on the site are installed by flashing ( just like custom roms ), the only exception i can think of off the top of my head is the Gala S Theme ( my personal favorite ) which you can either flash, although it doesn't work with the latest nightly's for CM6, or use Metamorph to apply the theme, which does work up to & including last night's build.

thank you so much. but i do not know the steps to install a theme. metamorph would not work because it says there is no space ( somehow )
so if you know how to flash it in let me know please.
thank you for the quick respond
Which theme are you looking at? If it's flashable, drop it on your SD Card, boot into recovery, Flash Zip from SD Card, & go from there.

DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE
1. Drop the zip file to the root dir of your sd card
2. boot into recovery
3. select flash file from sd card
4. select the theme file and let it do the work
5. When it's done it'll tell you "install from sd card complete"
6. reboot

I can successfully install Roms thats I download through Rom Manager, but for some reason I cannot install Roms that I download online, put in my SD card and try to flash through Clockworkmod. The downloaded files are in .zip for and I choose to install zip from SD. When I select it, the screen shows that it is installing but takes only a second and doesnt flash successfully. I dont get any errors but for some reason the Rom just doesnt install. If anyone has had this issue or could help it would be much appreciated, thanks.
nevermind, i figured it out. for some reason the files would only work when i compressed them again. its weird but im glad i got it to work

change the setting on your mac (i know you did not say it was a mac but since this exact thing happened to me i know it must be one) to not "open safe files after downloading" in the preferences - general tab. that way you will not have to zip files again since they get unzipped on downloading.
After a solid 2 days of searching XDA forums and around the internet in general, I give up on searching around and want to know if there is a straightforward way to install the MIUI ROM that I have already downloaded. I have the ROM already on an SD card, and I figured I am just supposed to restart the phone and some kind of .bat file will automatically start running and itself the rom onto the phone. Well, that didn't happen.
How do I get this ROM installed?
use rom manager. find it in the market place

no? use hboot, and cwm 3.x wipe data/factory reset wipe cache, wipe dalvic,
install from zip.
If that doesnt make sense its time to read more about modding/flashing
additionally rom manager app is trash for flashing, only useful to create nandroid backups.
Some people prefer ROM Manager, I'm not sure what type of MIUI releases are avaiable through there, you might need to purchase premium which is a total pain.
It is overall just better with flash it through hboot and cwm3. Also... andorid/linux do not read .bat files, that's specific to window's OS.
Basically (I'm simplifying this, plus there's 500,000+ other posts saying the same info)
1) Root your phone
2) Install CM3 or if you rooted with unrevoked3 then it automatically installs it.
3) Download ROM of choice
4) Put that ROM on the root of your SD card
5) Boot into hboot (turn off phone, then hold down the 'volume down' and 'power on' your phone.
6) Choose install .zip from location, navigate to SD card and install
7) done

I may be wrong because I have an EVO but between 5 and 6 you need a step that says to choose recovery. On my phone you can't flash roms through hboot.

yesterday I flashed MIUI. I was doing it the traditional way, the way I always do. But when I tried to flash it in recovery, it just started to flash and stopped. I figured I'd do it in rom manager, it had the newest version, I told it to wipe data and cache, and I'm now running MIUI. It's great. Similar to iOS, but very much android. Netflix works, and battery life is ****ing incredible.

battery life is the main reason i'm not going back to CM7. it's almost twice as good, and with the same features, if not better...
Hi Folks,
I am unable to install google apps (Goolge Market). I have cm-7.0.3 on myTouch Slide and as per the instructions I'm trying to boot into clockwork recovery from ROM Manager, and then do as follows:
1. Open ROM Manager
2. Select “Install Rom from SD Card" and select "gapps-gb-20110613-signed"
As per the istruction it should rebbot and show the installation progress but instead I get an error: “E:can't open /sdcard/gapps-mdpi-20110613-signed.zip (bad) Installation aborted.”
I reflashed cm-7.0.3 and tried installing google apps again but I get the same error. I even tried the latest version of google apps “gapps-gb-20110828-signed”. But nothing works.
Now I am stuck without android market on phone. Could you please help and suggest how to fix this issue or any laternative way of installing Google Market on my phone?
BTW I am new to rooting and flashing process.
Thanks in advance…
Try going into recovery from hboot and install the gapps.
Thanks but it does not work

Thanks for your reply...
I tried installing from clockwork recovery however when I select install zip from SD card option I get a blank screen and it stays there, nothing happens...Now I have updated CM 7.03 to CM 7.1 but it issue still exists...
If I go into android recovery do I need to rename the "gapps-gb-20110613-signed" to "update.zip" so that system recognizes it and it can be installed.
Appreciate your help.
It's working now
I used a brand new Micro SD card it worked , I was able to install the Google Apps from the new Micro SD card. Not sure what the problem was with the old card though
Thanks...
Hello to members here.
Would be really grateful for any help with info' regarding my Galaxy Grand Dous GT-19082 running on 4.1.2. I like the phone a lot, and don't like the fact I accidentally deleted the wall paper picker and also the program monitor from the system with root delete app. So I can not use live wall paper now, or the program monitor
As said before, phone rooted, think using/has CWM. Apart from that it's standard.I didn't back up my phone with Titanium back up etc unfortunately. I have tried to see which ROM I am using, but can't find out, even under settings/about device. It must be a stock ROM I guess, as I only rooted it, didn't change ROM.
I have spent/wasted a day and a half so far trying to find info' on the web looking how I can re install these to the phone. Potentially frustrating. I have looked for the apk files but could not locate.
I am fairly basic with my knowledge on this techie stuff, so if anyone can explain as simply as possible and step by step. I would be most thankful. If I could pay somebody to do it, then I would probably be keen, just want my phone as it was again...
Thanks again, and respect in advance for any helps/info' and advise.
Sincere regards, Alex
Recklessly deleting a few, seemingly unimportant system files could have as destructive consequence as having to reflash your whole firmware via Odin. That means you have to backup all your apps and datas. What firmware version are you on currently? Maybe some guys here can help extracting the files from the firmware package you mentioned, or else you might have to download the whole firmware (mind you, it's huge) and flash it via Odin.
Hey Naufalhadyan, Thanks for the reply. Yes, was reckless and kind'a stupid deleting the files.
My firmware is I believe 4.1.2 Jelly Bean

1. Boot into recovery, Volume UP + Home + Power
2. Select Install zip and choose this zip file - View attachment apps-update.zip
3. Let it install
4. Go back, select Wipe Cache
5. Go to advanced, select Wipe Dalvik-cache
Alternatively, extract the zip, mount your /system and copy the apks included and set their permissions to rw-r--r--
I couldn't find an exact apk that says Program Provider, so I'm included both possible ones.
Apks included:
- ApplicationsProvider
- SecLiveWallpapersPicker
- SecWallpaperChooser
- TaskProvider
All above apps are extracted from 4.1.2 XXAMF7 firmware directly.
The zip file will copy and replace the above system apps. Clearing cache and dalvik-cache will let your phone upgrade apps but no data will be lost, without it you might get Force Closes.
NOTE: Please make sure you back up your data before-hand, just in case
Hi Iceyhotguy,
Much thanks to you for the zip link and what seems like straight forward instructions.
I have spent a while trying to add the zip. When I go into recovery mode, it says it can not mound sd card. I have even payed for the premium version of CWM now, thinking I could add the zip this way, which I think I can, but again in recovery mode, it can not mount the sd card, which is where the file is download to. (I think)
Have downloaded the file straight to the phone aswell, but no luck yet.
I guess I have to install manually some how, you said ''Alternatively, extract the zip, mount your /system and copy the apks included and set their permissions to rw-r--r--'' . If you could be so kind to talk me through in baby steps (as I don't really understand this way) how I can do it this way, seeing the recovery mode way is not working for some reason.
Close,but not quite there yet.
Really hoping to fix my mistakes of accidentally deleting file soon, guess it's a good lesson, and I am learning more about this kind of thing, so not all bad.
Hope to hear back from you, and/or other members soon.
Thankyou,
Alex
Spent ages trying to fix my phone, and research online how I ''copy the apks included and set their permissions to rw-r--r--'' can't do it, getting frustrating..
Also I read online that using CWM as a recovery is not needed on a stock ROM and the error message in recovery 'can't not mount sd card'' can happen with stock rom and CWM....
Would really appreciate some help to fix this. Thanks:good:
Managed to try change permission with a root explorer program, though it says some files do not allow permission change, so seems I can not so this either

Reflash the CWM for 4.1.2 with Odin from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42349036&postcount=1
That'll fix the sdcard issue. If it doesn't try putting the zip file in internal memory.
I explained how to copy bootanimation file here in steps and paste it back in /system/media with setting permissions : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46010766&postcount=2
The same principle will apply when copying apks from the above zip file, take all 4 apks, and paste them in /system/app folder then follow my post above to set permission.

Thanks a ton man, this worked for me and now I re-installed Live Wallpaper APK. Could not install via any root perm enabled file manager. Sumit pointed me here, thanks to him too.
