My house flooded so I had to move my xbox and its not with the router any more, is there any way I can target it to my xbox? I'm running virus rom anthrax series and stock usb and wifi tether are unlocked. Any ideas?

with a computer you can, plug xbox into the computer and get the computer connected to the internet through the phone then in network connection bridge the two connections, otherwise without a wifi adapter on your xbox you can't
If you tether through your EVO via WiFi Hotspot, you can. Note that your ping time will be horrendous, you will never be host, and people will hate you for having such a laggy connection and slowing down the entire game.

with your xbox connected to pc and pc connected to internet open your network connections, highlight both and right click on the wifi one and chose bridge connections
or you can just right click on the wifi one and in properties I think there is share internet option

Is it possible to use wireless tether for xbox? (I have the xbox slim)
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
For all to read:
Any device that has a wireless adapter that can pick up WIFI signal can use your phones Tethering abilities. So if you have the wireless adapter for your Xbox 360, then yes, you can tether your phones internet and use that as your connection. Just go about it just like you would if you were searching for a routers connection. Note that the ping time will be horrendous. Normal ping times for a 1MB/S download speed is about 30-60ms on a DSL or cable internet connection. Through your phones 3g you are looking at close to a 150ms ping or probably more depending on the signal strength of your phone. I personally have never tried to use my phones internet with Xbox live but going from a generalization in the gaming world, you want to have the lowest ping time possible.(i.e. if your in a game such as Call of Duty and your ping time is terrible and you encounter an enemy, he can actually walk around the corner of a building and see you before you get the chance to shoot him and shoot you first)
But if you want to try it out and see how it is:
Tether your internet to your laptop.
Run a Cat-5 cable from your laptop to your xbox.
Go into your network manager in your computer and share the internet connection.

just connect your hd to your PC via usb and than when you get a pop up message (activesync , internet sharing , disk drive) choose "internet sharing".
that's it
Will this use alot more of my internet i gt unlimited internet bundle but only to 500mb i think
depends what you do with it. but yes, it will use however much of your GPRS internet package you use.
I've been doing this for ages on O2's unlimited data plan.
And I use the wifi sharing app instead of connecting it by USB since it's obviously more convenient.
I use internet sharing with the USB-cable quite a lot. Every week when I travel by train for 2 hours.
In some regions I have a bad reception and the connection drops every now and then, but when my reception is good I even can chat with Windows Live Messenger on my laptop, with both webcams turned on (mine and the person I'm talking to).
I'm very happy with internet at my laptop

That's not what he means.
With a program for your HD you can send Wifi signals, like a router.
You just use your incoming phone signal and that program sends it out as Wifi again. Than you can connect to the wifi-signal with your laptop.
It is the same as internet sharing via the usb cable, but without the cable
If you want this, look for WMWifiRouter (paid) or HTC Wifi Sharing (free!)

How is it (much) faster through USB?
If I connect to O2's HSDPA network (which I frequently do) I get around 3-4Mbps and that's the network maximum so not sure where you got the cable is faster idea...

Hello, I have been searching around for a day and a half now to no avail. I figure I will ask here as a last attempt before I go and buy another USB wifi adapter.
I am trying to use my HTC Dash with WM6.5 to tether an available wifi connection over to my Windows 7 PC. Basically trying to use the phone as a wifi adapter. The phone has no cell data service, but can connect to the home wifi network that is here. My Windows 7 PC has no Wifi adapter (I left it behind >.<).
Here is where I am at. The HTC Dash is connected to the Wifi network, and when I try to select a Network in the ICS program, it says there is none available. I have been able to get USB selected in ICS, and the phone connected to the computer. In Windows I see a Windows Mobile Remote Adapter in the Network Connections area when I sync the device in Windows Mobile Center. But no matter what I try, ICS sharing on the phone will not let me select the Wifi connection it has.
Through my searching I have found a lot of information on tethering 2G and 3G internet through USB, and using the phone as a Wifi Hotspot. But those where no help in this.
My friend on a G1 with Andriod can tether Wifi connections to a pc, and I am wondering if Windows Mobile can do the same thing. I can flash my ROM from to 6.0 or 6.1 WM if needed.
Thanks in advance to any advice given, hopefully someone can help me out
UPDATE: Still have no luck. I found a program called ICS Control v.21, but it only works on touchscreen WM phones, not WM standard. Which means a bunch of crashing.
This program would do exactally what I need it to do... just does not support my phone. Well the search continues... looking like I may just have to go buy an USB Wifi adapter soon.
tethering w/wifi
It does work. I'm currently answering this on my 2nd desktop Vista with my S620 via my home wifi network. Waiting for a 25' ethernet connector to hardware to wifi/modem Not quite sure how it is with a wifi adapter but 2 things I do know from experience. You shouldn't need an adapter.
1st: you can't be in Sync Center while trying to tether, at least in my case on a Vista desktop. It won't let you tether while the sync is running (or your already synced).
2nd: (this worked for me) open internet sharing on your Dash/S620, pc connection-usb and be ready to hit connect the 1st couple of seconds after pluging your usb connector into your phone, and give it 10-20 seconds to actually connect. If you wait to long to hit connect, the phone will start syncing with the computer. Won't let you tether.
RE-read post, missed thar "WinMo" remote part. My bad. Don't own Win 7. Don't know what that is.
Question: Is there an active wifi where you are ? From your post it sounds like "yes"
You do not need a wifi adapter. You do need a USB cord.
I tethered with edge for a bit, but then got to thinking. Try Wifi. It worked, but be quick.
Neither one is super fast but Wifi is definitely faster than Edge. Better than not being on the net at all. Occasionally it'll cut out, just unplug usb, get to connect screen, plug in and hit connect. Should be set.
As a side note: I also tried tethering with G1. Xferd pc driver to Vista from G1 but computer says it can't find the driver. Gave up after 2 hours.
G1 tethering works great on XP though.
Hope this helps. Good Luck. Really cool when it works.
Are you using a wifi tether or just usb?
If wifi, what program/version are you using and where did you get it? I got the ICS usb tether working, but my version of wmwifirouter.cab won't even install on the dash. cheers

I'll have to break out the Dash again and let you know. It's been sitting for weeks since I repaired LCD screen and flashed my TMO Wing. Can't seem to stop playing with it.
Give me a little time and I'll get back to you.
You do have a wifi modem, correct ? I was using usb.
Right, just to be clear, my goal is to set up my Dash to receive it's edge data and transmit that out as a wifi signal that my laptop will pick up and connect to the internet. No USB connection. I'm getting an ipad eventually and this is all to avoid that stupid 3g garbage they're hawking.
I tried a program called wmwifirouter.cab but was unsuccessful. An ad-hoc wifi network was created by my phone and my laptop was connected to it but couldn't connect to the internet. And my phone kept crashing.
Any ideas? Thanks

Well, in your case, I won't be any help. What I did was run a 2nd computer off of my Dash with a Wifi Modem.
XP in another room with a wifi modem attached on Comcast, Dash on wifi and usb to Vista computer, since I didn't have a 25ft ethernet cable at the time.
Was running Vista-Dash-wifi modem-XP to comcast so I could run 2nd computer without being hard wired.
I'm familiar with wifirouter cab. It let's you use your phone like a hotspot, correct ?
In all my searches for various things for the phones, I thought I saw a different application that did the same thing. Possibly might even have it. I'll check and upload for ya if I find it. Have hundreds of cabs/zips to search. Let you know.
Possibly google it and you might find it yourself. There's a program called: WalkingHotSpot online for $24.99 if you don't mind spending. Dash isn't listed as a supported windows device but looking at the other phones listed my guess would be it should work. Try their DEMO version, see if it works.
Good Luck.......
2AM and I was just wondering......When you received your phone, you also got a usb cable with it, right ?
Why don't you just usb Dash to laptop and use "internet sharing" ????
My plan is to set this up for an iPad, which doesn't allow internet access over a USB cable, so USB tethering is out, has to be wifi.

Do you have a home computer ? If so, get yourself a Wifi Modem and set up a home network. $40-60. Although Comcast sold me mine for $20 and I get to keep it. I can get all 5 phones on the internet at the same time, not that I need to. It'll also be so much faster then running thru Edge. Besides the fact video's don't play for crap tethered running through Edge. Just a suggestion.
My opinion stands concerning Apple. Get ready to cough up more fees for internet (ATT). They're doing away with unlimited data. Did you see their prices ?
You'll never catch me with ATT.
I just put WMWifiRouter on my TMO Wing 6.5. let you know how it worked. Setup went fine, so far.
did you try downloading the actual .cab from WMWIFIROUTER.COM it's only a trial for 21 days, the "Free" versions don't work on the dash i've tried many of them.
once you install and get it set up be sure to write down the Access ID and Password it gives you so you can connect to the WiFi signal beaming from your phone from your PC. It works for me to tether a WiFi connection from my Dash to PC though I prefer the more stable Internet Sharing USB to PC and I have an Unlimited Data Plan.
WMWIFIROUTER also lets you tether a connection from your phone via bbluetooth.
I use WMWiFiRouter and its a life saver. It lets you pretty much tether any connection to any other.
Just yesterday I was at a meeting in a resturant with some clients and used it to hook my netbook to the internet and used bluetooth as the connection to the phone. Yes, Internet Sharing can do that, but it has alot more it can do too.
You can use Bluetooth, USB (it shows up as a USB modem), or even set it up as a WiFi Router.
Very cool program and it works perfectly on the Dash. I love it.
I never tried the trial version. A friend of mine showed it to me, so I just bought it. It's under $20. Well worth it if you run into that situation often.
My dad has a motor home and canceled his Comcast account for where he keeps it (some motor home park)
Because his internet speeds with his phone is amazing to say the least.
He's fine with just tethering but I was wondering if its possible to some how connect his phone to the router ??
The router is more powerful at sending the wifi, plus he has some things hardwired (roku, computer)
It seems like there should be a way, but I have no clue..
THANKS!
just enable WiFi tethering, you don't need a router for that
Yeah use either wifi tether or barnacle (same thing better options and free) then your phone becomes a wireless router which uses your cellular data connection for internet so subject to plan limits and throttling.
Connect multiple devices like you would your usual router. Any device that can use wifi should pretty much work this way just follow app directions too it's easy just usually have to ok each device on phone before it can access the internet
Note: eats battery for breakfast so keep charger and some power source handy if needed for long sessions
Keep number of clients as low as you can more clients = less time on battery and phones not meant to handle a ton of routing
oh and TMobile is known to firewall certain Ports on their end

Thanks.. Yea I know about tethering as we both do it all the time..
As I said, in his motor home his router is already set up to many things (Direct TV, Roku,Computer, laptop)
Yes we can just do it through wifi tether, but I thought you would be able to some how hook it right into a router that is WiFi/Ethernet and just leave it at that..
Believe it or not at 45 feet long, with some stuff in the back and some in the front, the signal sometimes isn't as strong
This is advice only I am not responsible for anything you choose to do with any of your own personal equipment!
It ain't easy but it is possible but you would need to create a wifi bridge but unless your router can use dd-wrt or other custom firmware won't work.
Basically you would start wifi tether then use router via DD-wrt to connect as client to phones wifi said and then it would share that with devices connected to the router out again though phone would still bottle neck speed if too many clients go too crazy on data because in the end all data must flow through phone to the internet.
I did it with a cheap linksys wrt54g v8 but I bridge my ISP router out to another room. Also all wired Ports on router would also go back to phone and internet

Something else you can do is wired tether to a computer and set the other computer's gateway to that computer's ip. If this sounds like an option you are curious reply and I'll give full instructions.
Well you could just bridge the phone connection in network connects to I've that connects to router set router gateway to that computers IP (set up ics in windows walks through comp piece after phone tethered and all drivers set). If you use crossover ethernet cable (trees different than straight through normal cable I know I do camping telecom work all day either buy one from just bout anywhere just be sure it says crossover) or make one) from computer with USB or wifi tethered phone to routers WAN port and set router IP manually to something like
Computer:
IP: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: the IP of the bridge created by ics
Router
IP:192.168.1.2
Same subnet
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
That is very basic and off the cuff while on smoke break Google ics and basic use of bridges connections for detailed info
You would have to have that computer run full time without going to sleep for internet access via phone even from rest of network. Otherwise all devices would see either and work between themselves butno internet until gateway was on and awake.

Yes, set phone with barnacle then connect DD-wrt using client bridge under wireless after you either clicked SSID using their pop up or entered it manually drop down box at bottom is client bridge. Don't forget to click security and set the settings accordingly.
Also don't forget to click to allow DD-WRT router on your phone screen when you connect it just like any computer before it will see the internet.

i realize this is an old thread that i am hoping to revive...
i have an android phone that is rooted.
also have a linksys wrt54gl router
i am trying to do one of several things and i need some help...
i am wanting to use my wifi hotspot on the phone fed through the router to get internet...
i can already tether in windows 10 straight to the phone... my issue is linux mint 18 isnt seeing any wireless connections and it doesnt pick up a usb tether as wired. i dont have dsl or anything like that. only mobile data provides internet..
i am super confused.
router has dd-wrt installed i just am confused on how to get it to work....
each page i read is something different and i havent found the setting that works, and im not terribly knowledgeable about this either.
i installed the dd-wrt because of linux being that it is linux firmware for the router i figured it would communicate way better and not have to do work arounds etc...
my linksys ae1200 needs to much work and its still not seeing that one and i havint figured out ndiswrapper or ndsgtk (might have that incorrect- essentially the gui for ndiswrapper)
im trying to figure it on windows 10 right now and havent tried for linux.. figured its just way better to ask... i could care less about configuring for windows 10.. system is dual boot win10 and linux mint 18.
i want it to work so i can get linux where it can do updates and download from internet the necessary package through synaptic, etc...
trying to do other things with linux for android...
AGAIN there is not wired connection to work from so in general im just having a hard time.
any and all help is appreciated and if im in the wrong thread, please direct me to the correct one.
thank you

Yes it is.
Menu> Settings> More> Portable hotspot & tethering
Here you can either choose to set your phone up as a WiFi hotspot so your PC can connect wirelessly to your phone and use it’s 3G for internet connection.
Or you can use USB tethering to achieve the same internet connection but using a cable instead of WiFi. Personally I’ve had more success with this one, as I have found the WiFi Hotspot function to be very hit-and-miss.
You may find that after prolonged inactivity on the connection, it stops working and you have to stop and then re-start USB tethering for it to work. Keep the data flowing though and it seems to work just fine. Obviously take into account your 3G data plan. If you are on a unlimited plan then you are laughing.
Don’t shut your phone in a door!

HTC does allow you to use internet through usb connection but cant share that out over wifi.

To clarify first and foremost, I'm looking to tether Wifi to Wifi. Not Wifi to 3G as normal (aka FoxFi and such)
On the iPhone, there is the most popular tethering app MyWi for jailbroken users. It allowed you to tether in all kinds of ways.
You see, some devices cannot connect to my school's network over WiFi. But, my iPhone could so I would tether the WiFi connect to the WiFi hotspot so that devices like my Roku box or PS3/360 could connect to my iPhone to get internet from the school.
So basically,
School -> iPhone -> PS3/360/Roku
Passthrough WiFi
I miss this on my Android, and I see that when you use FoxFi - it turns off the WiFi connect to the school AP and only tethers to 3G/4G. I don't and can't really use that for something like gaming.
Anything like MyWi on the Android at all?

Only way I have been able to get WiFi passthrough is by plugging my Note 2 into a USB port on my PC or into my router if your router supports USB through 3G/WiFi
