Hi all,
Install the .apk file within the attachment to gain the launcher style from Gingerbread 2.3 for your Galaxy S. Tested on Froyo and seems to be working just fine
Here's a video for your amusement as well beside an an unboxing video of the Nexus S for reference.
Also, here's the Gingerbread keyboard ported out as an .apk file for your Galaxy S I9000. After downloading, go to "Settings" - "Region and Text", and check the option "Keyboard Android"
That done, start any application that uses the keyboard, press and hold the text box until the option "Enter method", choose "Keyboard Android" and presto, you have the new keyboard to input your texts. Enjoy!
Does anyone care enough to share their experience?

Just downloaded this to my SGS running Froyo 2.2.1 (Darky's 5.2 Gingerbread edition). Keyboard is awesome and has a lot of input languages. Love that you can change input language by just swiping the space bar. For me answering different emails from different languages it really takes some clicks out of my usual "change input method" routine. Works like a charm. Thanks.
In my opinion.
Launcher: not so special.
Keyboard: Very good but even after selecting haptic feedback i dont get any haptic feedback.

Should work with any ROM without any issues. After all, its not a complete theme renovating your Galaxy S, its just an app which runs like Launcher Pro or ADW Launcher and provides you a Gingerbread looking desktop.

It's not a complete perfect port yet, I'm not the developer so I'm not eligible to any credit given or negative feedback. I somehow stumbled upon the links online while conducting a small Gingerbread research.
I'll keep your posted for any updates though!

The launcher theme does work in several ROMs, but I noticed that the gingerbread keyboard force closes on insanity ROM. Any idea how to get it to work? Thanks!
I downloaded the launcher but I can't find any setting for it.
Keyboard works great but I prefer Swype
I really like this launcher in fact so much I have set it as default instead og LauncherPro. The only problem I have is that the app drawer takes a while to populate the first time it is used. It seems a little faster as well. Really like the predictability of the keyboard as well. not so many typo's.

As 2.3 is a Vanilla build the launcher as with all the un-skinned versions does not have much in the way of customisation options if any. Someone please correct me if I am wrong here.

Any chance to get the default Froyo launcher for our phone? I really don't like ADW that much but use it as it's the best option but would love to have the standard one.
Have you tried launcher pro?
Yea but I don't line the 4 icon dock at the bottom.
I like the simplicity of ADW/default but ADW eats up alot of resources.

could you post a pic of how that launcher looks?
Almost like LauncherPro when it's default, except for only 3 buttons and then dots on the side saying what page you're on.
can we install the launcher from decepticon on 2.1?

you should paste it into /system/app that works mine is from the n1 froyo build, too
Dumb question - I assume you have to be rooted to use this?
can some one snap a piture?
i still like LauncherPro better, so far no other launcher has been able to beat it yet on usefulness and looks and simplicity and effectiveness and... well the list goes on and on

In launcher pro you can set the dock shortcut to blank. That way you can keep as many dock shortcuts as you like. Mine has 5 so if you set the left and right ones to blank you can have 3 in the middle. Then simply change the shortcut functions to whatever you want them to be. It works for me

So folx
Im using the stock one, but im thinking of replacing it because of landscape lag (if the custom one will solve the lag in landscape) and enter key..
What keyboard you use ?
Swype.

Smart keyboard has been my go-to for a LONG time now. I still use it, but I find myself just using the stock ICS keyboard more and more...
I think I've tried just about every one out there (swiftkey, Go, ultra, better, touchpal, etc.) I still think Smart keyboard is the best. Love the customization, the tap-a-word to correct option, large space bar, gestures, etc. It just does everything well. It still uses the old voice-to-text style, and I do love the new voice-to-text options in ICS (word by word). I wish there was a way to access the new way in it...
Stock for me... Used the HTC IME across my other phones (HTC or not) but actually like the stock ICS one more now...
Swype Swype
I like STOCK ICS very much, but the darn landscape lag is irritating me.. And the missing of enter button... But the landscape lag is killing me .. Thats why im considering another keyboard... But i think ill stick to the stock one for little more time

Stock ICS Keyboard themed by me.
Is there a keyboard with programmable keys? so i can assign emails, .com.
I use Swiftkey. Seems that finnish language prediction works best with it and it can handle multiple languages at the same time so its nice.
I am extremely happy with the stock keyboard. That is the first time i've ever been able to say that with any Android phone i've ever owned. I have almost every keyboard available (smart keyboard, swift key, etc) and none even compare to the ICS keyboard when it comes to auto correction.
I read somewhere that Google purchased a company developing an app called "Blind Type" and incorporated that into the ICS keyboard and i believe it. I can type very very quickly and it still does a fantastic job of auto correcting for me.
My girlfriend also has a Nexus and hated the look of the stock keyboard and has since then tried all other keyboards as well... she settled on smart keyboard but has said that even that is not quite as accurate as the ICS keyboard.
She is a very precise typer though and I rely on auto correct heavily to type as fast as I do.

Smart Keyboard. It comes with a dedicated .com button which can also be customized to long press other things (such as www. , .ca , .org etc)
As for me..I always used Smart Keyboard, up until ICS that is. I've been loving the improved accuracy and spell correction now implemented with the stock ICS...although I do still miss some features from Smart (such as some of the swipe options and number layout).
Does anyone know what roms allow you to hide or disable the little keyboard icon when you use different keyboards?

+1 for smart keyboard.
I really like the gestures and long-press for numbers/special characters. Also can change skins to modify the look of it. The auto correct/spell check is still pretty good with ICS.

NEWS
Looking for a flashable ROM that does more than dropping you into tablet mode?
With little manual hacks and fixes we came only so far ... true hybrid mode with actual fixes and ICS-framework rewrites is being developed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619582
UNLOCK HYBRID MODE IN 3 SIMPLE STEPS MANUALLY
Note: If you followed all the steps and you get something else than what is shown in the snapshots above, please search the thread, many things have been answered a dozen times already. Also make sure you do a full backup before you attempt to change anything!
1. Change your DPI
Edit this line in your /system/build.prop: ro.sf.lcd_density=192
192 is for Galaxy Nexus only! You can calculate the magic value for your phone, the formula has been explained here.
2. Hide the Navigation-Bar and reboot
Add this line to your /system/build.prop: qemu.hw.mainkeys=1 and reboot
We have collected no experiences with hardware-button devices yet, if you're on such a device check out Xylograph's efforts
3. Drop a couple of apk's
They all belong to their respective owners
3.1-3.2: Use ADB or Root Explorer, do not install, just drop it into /system/app
If you encounter problems, go to CWM and wipe cache/partition & advanced/dalvik cache. Also wipe cache & data in Androids app manager (Settings/Apps/All/...) and push the apk's again
3.1 Nova Launcher: 1.1beta (still has some small blemishes) or our Hack (for now its closer to stock): Rapidshare, Mediafire
ICS launchers do have some issues with tablet mode, all except Nova
If Nova was already installed pre-installed, delete it before you push. In that case you might want to backup your Homescreens in Novas settings
I suggest you use a sane grid like 5x4, small margins for both width and height and persistant search bar on always
3.2 Hacked Play Market: Rapidshare, Mediafire
The old market gives you compatibility issues
Just backup the old one before you drop the hack (rename it to appname.apk.bak, appname can be either Vending or Phonesky, depends on your gapps package)
3.3 Keyboard: Play Marked
Androids standard keyboard has a weird sizing issue, it looks quite awful in tablet mode
1. download & install
2. rename /system/app/LatinIME.apk to LatinIME.apk.bak
3. Keyboard Settings/Advanced/Vibration Setting/10ms
More working keyboards:
Swype Beta
Swiftkey 3 Beta
Thumb Keyboard (paid App!)
HINTS
Go to Settings, Display, Font size, set it to Huge
AOKP: Uncheck the IME Switcher in UI Settings
CM9: Check "Auto Hide" in System/Statusbar to finally get real Fullscreen
Correct Wallpaper size + Template
You're on AOKP, troubled by button-spacing issues? Xylograph has found your fix
You're on AOKP, troubled by a crashing phone? Try this one: Rapidshare, Mediafire
CHANGELOG[/SIZE]
2.0: flashable ROM thanks to Zer0_Cool!
1.9: new keyboards up + IME switcher hint, thanks go to bill12690!
1.8: new google play fix, seems to find apps that it didn't find before, imdb for explample
1.7: nova spacing issues, better overscroll layout
1.6: nova optimized for "Huge" font settings / new experimental Google Play hack
1.5: fixed folder grid size / fixed app drawer layout / fixed dock divider height
1.4: nova 1.0.3beta instead of apex / app folders work! / grids/stacks work / no fixed grid, configure as you wish!
1.3: new phone.apk which works under aokp 4.0.4, thx to faunh for finding it!
1.2: market fix from lcd desity modder, thank you raubkatze for extracting it! ::]
1.1: apex v1.0.2beta / landscape works, dock excluded / optimized for settings/display/font-size: large
1.0: dock / normal sized icons / set apex into hybrid mode / phone.apk from aokp/droid incredible
This MOD looks awesome!
Thanks buddy!
I was looking for this since I ve got a taste of it on my Note
Good job
Cool! How is it in landscape? Data drops? More info on stability would be very helpful! Thanks!

no landscape in the launcher for now, just deactivate it. landscape for everything else is fine. i guess i'll fix it when i find the time. the dock has to be glued to the right side then, it should, in theory, not be so hard.
i did not experience data-drops until now. i can be reached just fine. i have to get back to my original country first and see if its an issue, sure hope not though. are you dead-sure it's not a radio/kernel/rom issue? by no means im an expert but in my naive mind i couldnt think of a reason why changing the dpi would make your signal drop.

No problems here with that. Did you push the phone.apk in the OP?
molesarecoming, no need to disable your navbar. Tablet mode does this automatically. I don't even have the option with Milestone 4 of ASOP and everything is just fine. And if people want even more room, all they gotta do is disable "show persistent search bar" in apex.
Also, imo no need to set your phone to always portrait. The app draw or home screen doesn't look perfect in landscape mode, but it's not all that bad. I have mine set to default which makes it only rotate in apps, never on home screen or app draw. (Not sure if that's what you meant) That's how I usually have things set anyway so it's perfect for me.
Been running this all day and I'm loving it!
Thanks again.

You need to use a hacked version of market/play store. I'm pretty sure there's a thread around here on xda with the necessary hacks for free or you can buy lcd density modder pro on play store which gives you access to a hacked version (both 'markets' accomplish the same thing from what I've read).
I'm excited for this one. Once this is easier to implement, i'll switch to this right away, best mod i've seen so far congratz!

every launcher "works," well, except trebuchet. but nova wastes space, shrinks your icons and hides the dock. if you can live with that, yes then it works.

go back to 320, force close market, delete cache and data, start it and press OK. go back to 192. it works, well, better but you still get that stupid message every now and then. but really it's their fault. it's easy to mod though, and there's been solutions for this.
install swype. it's the better keyboard anyway.

yeah i was wondering, in m4 the option was ... missing? weird. it's in my poweroptions now anyway. the problem was, system.UI crashed if i didn't disable the navigation-bar before reboot. it always did, so can it perhaps be they fixed it in m4?
in the hack at least landscape kills it, the dock gets punched out by the divider.

i dont know, its actually a feature of ICS - it does most of it by itself. can cna hide the navigation-bar? if not you can hack your framework. here's an instruction: http://baroqueworksdev.blogspot.com/2012/02/launch-tablet-mode-android-403-on.html but don't go to 160, it's way to small man.

i guess it can be modified, why not. trick it into believing the dpi of your device is 192. if you want you can have my apktool project (it took me days to figure out how to compile/decompile ics apk's without getting a crapload of error messages). with apktool you should be able to do this quickly. but as i wrote in the first post, if someone would invent a root-app that could individually set dpi for apps, it would do so much for us.
Can anybody post a screen rotation animation, one that works?

I have one for you!!!
get the ADW Launcher. The easiest way that I have found since I can't post links is to go to 4shared website then in the search window type in adw launcher.apk the first on on the list works perfectly. or you can do it on your phone and that saves you a step.
install it
press the home button on your phone. It's going to give you two options one is going to be like TWLauncher and the other will be the ADWLauncher. At the bottom make sure you check the set as default and then select adw launcher.
Press the menu>more>ADWsetting>UIsetting>General Behavior>Animation and Effects>Screen transition effect>Rotate
there are several different transitional effects on that menu so just play with it until you find the one that you love.
Works on Rooted or non rooted phones
I have used this with my phone since I had the Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant and pretty much know the ins and outs of this launcher. It's very customizable.
Try it out... I hope it's exactly what you are looking for.
