The Continuum Source Code is available at http://opensource.samsung.com/
Click on the Mobile tab and look for SCH-i400 vzw.
That should be a good jumping off point for any devs wanting to do some custom ROMs.

lol, same sentiment here, I thought someone dug up some old thread
The recent thing they posted was the source of the AT&T Captivate aka SGH-I897...(don't know if it has anything new in it compared to last months Galaxy S source)
ok, what does this source contain basically ?
just curious
As far as I can tell, the full kernel source including drivers (but a couple are currently precompiled), and the changes to the base Android system compared to Eclair AOSP, although I'm no expert in this.
I'm no expert but even precompiled drivers should be usable to port gingerbread should samsung choose to skip it for our precious gems, right?

With the release today of CyanogenMod7, (http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cyanogenmod-7-0-released) I seem to remember that the Gingerbread source code was released for the Galaxy S line of phones a couple months back. Are there any Dev's working on Gingerbread for the Epic4g?
Facepalm
That is all.

I knew about this one but now that 7 has been released the EPIC is not being supported from what I saw on their website. Maybe the Epic4G Alpha 4 is a special project that is just not covered in the link that I provided.
Any other Devs working on 2.3 for Epic4g?
Yes, but it is a gingerbread port from the original galaxy s, since the source code for gingerbread is not out for the epic, we cannot code for much, so no developers are really going to work on making a rom for this. Cyanogen mod is made up of custom source code, so it is basically built from scratch, thats why this is the only gingerbread rom avaliable to date

Its based on the same source just doesn't have official support from the cm team yet.. they have to make sure their fixes don't break anything for other phones before they can become official, cm team seems to not want hackery, they are wanting to become a distro, not a port.. the epic team has come a long way in a short time so I don't think it will be long to gather official support, but who know...

1) GB source code is incomplete and work work. HTC screwed up.
2) the source code for the GB MR was just released, the code that has been available we have been well aware of (you know, since some of us have been using it since before s-off was publicly available).

Hey!
I want to start getting into developing roms, but I am wondering (this may sound very n00bish but...)
What are the benefits of compiling android from source vs. going and getting a factory rom and baking my modifications into it?
Thanks for any help!

I guess you could do more by compiling from source,
Cooking is done when there's no source available; why would you cook when you can bake and lunch?
This is why people get an aosp supported device.

So are you saying it is better to compile from source?
If so, why?
Do you really want to learn smali hacking? Modding from source is WAAAY easier that modding through smali hacking, just ask most of the devs out there.

Because you get a more stable rom, done right.
Whats better?
Buying a tuned car that has been setup correctly from the factory, or taking your car to a local half-bit tuner and have them slap on bolt-ons and call it good?
Modifying and building from source is much easier, faster, and better to learn and do. Plus since this is a nexus, full AOSP source is available for the device. Smali modding is for proprietary ROMs like HTC Sense or Samsung Touchwiz.
Compile from source is clearly the best way, you can add features as if it came from the factory. Not using source is dirty hacking and not clean like a compiled ROM.
I was just poking around on opensource.samsung.com and saw this file for download, hopefully it will be useful to devs in the future. :good:
The file is 196MB and has md5 ed891a2f357cd825c1dce114fc59640f. To download, go to http://opensource.samsung.com and search for "SGH-T889"

Yep AFAIK this is just the GPL part of the code - aka the part they are required to release.

It is kernel source (+ platform) have already started building but as always they throw a bug or two at you to make you work for it.

Excuse the noobish question, but does kernel + platform mean that everything needed to compile a functional android system for the device is present or does it mean everything sans precious drivers.

Gotchya. Thanks for the quick response.
I guess the core of my question is if this is useful for building newer versions of Android as they come out (IE 4.2). If not, what else do i need? Where do i find it? Where does this fit into the puzzle
