[Q] Desire Stuck on HTC boot. No Recovery. No S-Off - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry if this sounds similar to other threads, but I cannot find the answer in them.
Hardware: Desire Unbranded, Unlocked.
System: Originally 2.1, then 2.2 OTA, then various customs with MIUI being the latest. Installed Clockwork Recovery.
Issue: Apart from the odd freeze, everything has been working fine this week. I rebooted the phone yesterday and it stuck at the HTC white screen.
I can boot into Bootloader:
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27

When I select RECOVERY, it boots to the HTC white screen, but no further.
I can select FASTBOOT and it will connect up via USB for me to run FASTBOOT commands. However, I cannot flash .img's (fastboot remote:signature verify fail), or erase, other than cache, (FAILED (Remote not allowed). I'm guessing that's because I've not got S-OFF.
I have tried flashing the latest PB99img.zip. It reads and verifies, but then just returns to the BOOTLOADER screen with no other options. I have also tried old PB999img's, but it complains of being downlevel.
Fixable by software, or do I give up and pay HTC to fix?
Any help much appreciated.

if it says downlevel try this http://shipped-roms.com/download.ph...9.00.32U_5.11.05.27_release_151783_signed.zip rename to
PB99IMG.zip

Thanks, but I've tried it. It loaded, said it was verifying, but took me back to the Bootloader screen without any new options.

So, I'd pulled out my old winmo 6.5 phone and put the sim in that...but thought I'd try the PB99IMG.zip one last time, with the SIM out.....and it worked!
The phone took a while to sort itself out (multi auto reboots just as the lock screen appeared), but seems stable at the moment.
All very strange!

which pb did you use? the one i sent is the latest froyo and radio.

I'd already downloaded the one you sent and was using that.
Only difference with when it worked the final time was that I didn't have the SIM Card in the phone.

You shouldn't have a sim in your phone when using an RUU as it can simlock the sim.

Possibly bricked my Desire with RUU without switching back to original hboot

I had Oxygen hboot installed but wanted to switch back to original ROM. I Ran RUU but forgot to replace hboot with original one.
Now i have gray HTC in middle and /!\ in corners.
I can run RUU again and it recognizes the phone, but gives ERROR[152]:IMAGE UPDATE ERROR and recovery option doesn't help either, ends up with same error while retrying.
I can't boot into bootloader with power+vol. down
Any suggestions what to do next ? Is there any solutions ?
Nevermind, Fastboot worked. Flashed correct hboot, ran RUU again and it's working now.
please help
Can you be more specific for a noob?! I have the exact same problem and i'm desperate. What exactly did you do?
You need to fastboot flash (using commands or android flasher) the Alpharev downgrader image like it says on the alpharev site. Basically the same way you flashed your current hboot.
done
thanks guys, mine is working too now
Hi guyz!
I just bought a second hand Desire from a guy i dont know, and it seems it has some issues. I know it is not bricked as i can enter the bootloader and the fastboot mode. But that's all. I cannot access any recovery i flash, or boot any rom.
I flashed several RUU's via bootloader, one of them is booting but it reboots as soon as it settles down. Others dont even boot.
I am familiar with flashing, with fastboot and all that, i just have no experience in HTC Desire.

So this is what i get. Is there a method to get some working ROM on this one, other than flashing RUU's that doesnt seem to work? Or flashing with recovery?
I have flashed clockwork recovery via fastboot, it still doesnt work. It vibrates 7 times than the screen stays at the htc logo.
Maybe there is a fastboot method to inject all the stock stuff into the phone? And maybe somebody have those img's?
Many thanks, guys!

Desire in coma, need some advice!

what ruus are you flashing?
I flashed the ruus found here on xda. Anyway I managed to bring back my desire to stock hboot and rom. Now if I boot the phone without the sim, it works ok. When I insert a sim, it reboots right after the first boot, and enters in a boot loop. I guess this means a bricked modem chip on the mainboard....
Yes but exactly what ruus?

desire is dead

Hi. Recently my htc desire started rebooting when I used 3G.
Anyway this time it has gone for good and just hangs at the HTC bootscreen.
I tried going to bootloader -> recovery, but when I select it, it just reboots.
I have tried bootloader -> clear storage, but doesn't make a difference
After that I tried to flash it to the most recent RUU, but get a 131 customer ID error. Does anyone have any idea how I might install a new rom and get it working again - keeping in mind that I cannot boot the phone to a ROM?
Details that I have at bootscreen (back button + power) :
BRAVO UNKOWN SHIP S-ON
HBOOT - 0.75.0000
MICROP-031d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-4-05.00.11
It is from orange, but when I first got it I unlocked it and installed opendesire.
Thanks in advance.
Check bortak's troubleshooting guide.
I've had a look at the "Advanced Boot Problems - S-ON" section which seems to apply. Problem is in creating the goldcard. The tutorial says I need to be fully booted up ect. Any way I can do this and get the CID from fastboot alone?
What's your carrier?
It's with orange
Try to create goldcard with linux:
http://www.nazriawang.com/2010/04/how-to-create-goldcard-with-ubuntu.html
Ok, made goldCard and installed RUU mentioned in bortak's guide. Fastboot now looks like:
BRAVO PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-301D
TOUCH PANEL-DYNT0101
RADIO-5.11.05.27
so change there. Still hangs at the HTC boot screen.
What next!?
Got any errors when running RUU? If not, send it to HTC. You are back to stock and so there shouldn't be any problems.
I've had it for over a year and a half now. Would they still take it back?
Desire has a 2 year warranty so as long as you have a receipt or something you should be fine. I bought mine from CPW and they just used the serial number when returning-no problems at all.

Bootloop, 7 vibrations, no recovery, only fastboot

Few days ago my HTC Desire restarted and never booted again since then. It was lying on a desk when I heard multiple vibrations.
No ADB, no recovery, only fastboot available. I can flash any partition without any problems. It's got S-OFF (with AlphaRev - I've already tried different partition table layouts).

I don't have any nandroid backups since the phone was working well with CM 7.1 for a few months.
Reflashing boot doesn't make the device boot any further.
I've been reading about similiar issues but none applied exactly to my problem. Do you think there is any chance of making my Desire work again? Asking here is probably my last chance so iz ask for halp.
I think you can use android flasher/fast boot to get recovery and then flash a rom
Sent from my HTC Desire CDMA
I've been also flashing recovery. Without any effect. :/

Look here, pretty much the same problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1774330
Check it out and see if you can find something.
So I tried flashing latest 2.3 RUU from HTC dev site. In bootloader only radio version changed. It's still S-OFF. Splashscreen changed to stock HTC. Now after 7 vibrations phone restarts (it wasn't before).
I've also tried putting it into freezer but it didn't help I guess.
Any other ideas?

So, if you're still s-off flash alpharev downgrade hboot and run RUU again. That will overwrite hboot too so if there's a problem with it it will fix it.
If you don't get it repaired it's probably a hardware issue.
Still bootloop. So it's hardware problem after all. It sucks.
Anyway thanks for help. I really appreciate. I've bought HTC One V already.

[Q] Still Reboots after RUU

Hi there!
This is a follow up from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2051245
I noticed I was S-ON, so I thought that this was giving me troubles. I downloaded a ruu, the wrong one, so I ended up without a recovery and constant reboots.
So, I made myself a goldcard (I used my Xperia Play to get the CID, then switched to a Card reader, and a SanDisk 8GB). Still, I got the error 140.
I downloaded a pb999img.zip of a GB ruu, put this on the card, and powered into hboot. The update worked, and after powering up, everything is fine until the lockscreen comes up (but the "quietly brilliant" comes twice), then it crashes. I tried this twice, with the same results.
Any ideas why that happens? And why I couldn't use any ruu I wanted?
Here are my hboot numbers:
Bravo Pvt3 Ship S-ON
Hboot-1.02.0001
Microp-051d
Touch Panel-SYNW0101
Radio-5.17.05.23

So, any idea what to do? Could it be that the LBE Master screwed my phone completely up?
I would be very grateful for help. Thanks
I tried another ruu, which failed because of the lower hboot.
But after that, my phone was stable!
So, I managed to get S-Off with Revolutionary, but sadly no CWM.
Imnterestingly, I have the reboot problems again, the exact same ones.
Update: Now I am stuck in Hboot, after getting a CWM, rooting, and formatting as the troubleshooter guide says. Also, getting a CWm with fastboot as mentioned here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694
isn't possible anymore.
