[HELP PLEASE] Need assistance for Battery performance with collins tweak - EVO 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok,i have a lot of questions.
And i really am in need of AWESOME BATTERY LIFE.
I was told that collins tweak runs the best,so i tried it out with RefinedEvo 1.2
it was AWESOME in 3 hours i got to 90% with Netarchy's 4.1.9 CFS Nohavs.
i just flashed the collins tweak over it the Rom and it worked.
It was the best battery life,I ever had but now i cant get it back.
everytime i flash it from another rom or some sort it wont give me the same results.
i didnt touch the collins tweak until now, since im trying to put it on RefinedEvo again or Myns Rom.
But i dont really know how to properly use it. the GUIDE TAUGHT ME NOTHING.
i mean i dont see KSOFT ANYWHERE. and i dont even know what it means. but i see it in others screen shots but i cant find it in my own phone on terminal emulator. what do i do? do i run it as root? do i run it t 1152mhz or 998mhz? i know i should be running it at 998mhz to get better battery life, right?
but i am and i see no change? and i try to customize but it doesnt really help,i dont wanna funk with it. what governor should i keep it on smartass is the best right? but i heard it doesnt play nice with it.
PLEASE SOMEONE OFFER ME ASSISTANCE.
like how to properly do it?
and if i flash another kernel on the rom what do i wipe? everything like dalvik cache, cache, and data/factory reset? what do i need to do?
do i have to do any battery mods? like unplug when its green then plug it when its blank and what not?
what can i do? PLEASEE. i've TRIED ALMOST EVERYTHING. NOTHING WILL GIVE ME GREAT RESULTS!
i mean i use SetCPU and that was BEAST.
but i hear collins tweak is much better.
help me,please!
sorry,for really spamming this crap.
but i really need help and nobody would help.
i mean i bet you guys all needed help one time or another.
I need to know-
how to flash something properly without ruining anything.
how to properly run collins tweak
how to get the best battery life i can
what kernels would run best with the Tweak on Myns Rom.
RLS3 or 4?
maybe setcpu profiles?
BASICALLY,What Kernel do i use to get the best battery performace on Myns rom RLS4 or RefinedEVO 1.2
to run smooth and quick enough but can last me a best battery i can get with the Tweak flashed over it.
PS.I WILL DONATE TO ANYONE THAT CAN GIVE ME VERY BEST DESCRIPTIVE INSTRUCTIONS,REAL HELP, WITH ALL THE NEEDS FOR MY BEST BATTERY LIFE.

Ok i will try to do my best helping you. I will warn you i am not a pro on collins but have used it and feel i have a simi decent understanding.
First it is my understanding the rom you are using has to "support it" reading the post myn made about ti tells the other rom devs what they need to do to support it. Obviously myn's rom (post rls2) supports the tweak however i am not sure about RefinedEvo as i dont have experience with it.
First "how to flash something properly without ruining anything"
This depends on what you are flashing. If it is a new rom i always suggest wiping data/factory, cache, and dalvik and most will recommend wiping cache and dalvik twice to be safe.
For a kernel, theme, and most tweaks it is not necessary to wipe the data. It is a good practice to wipe cache and dalvik before you flash anything (as well as make a nand back up of course)
if you follow this you shouldn't screw up anything.
second "how to properly run collins tweak"
For myn's the way i would set it up is to
1) flash myns (with wiping etc) boot it up.
2) go back to recovery and then flash your kernel and any theme you want then boot up again fully
3)go back to recovery and flash the collins tweak.
if you flash collins tweak before the kernel is when you seem to have the highest chance of problems.
For myns collins is set and ready to go after this to my understanding with the default options. I find the default options are fine for my personal use. It is possible i could tweak it more to squeeze out a little more life but havent found it necessary.
third"how to get the best battery life i can"
for me the best battery life i have been able to get on any given rom is using collins and ultimate juice to turn off mobile data when my screen is off. This is a tricky subject because i see different posts all the time of people bragging about "63 hours" of time on there phone. if you look at their screen shots it is easy to see why. they didnt use there phone at all. if you see someone bragging about there charge time and android system is 2%, and dialer isnt on the list i would ignore anything they have to say. The normal time for people who use there phone is about 16 hours of life or less depending on how heavily they use it. The only reason i bring this up is to make sure you have realistic goals. Obviously if you dont use your phone much at all you can go longer.
forth "what kernels would run best with the Tweak on Myns Rom."
I personally use netarchy no havs. DO NOT use a smartass (with havs) kernel with collins. they cause issues and you will normally get worse battery life. you can also use the stock htc kernel if you prefer
Fifth "RLS3 or 4?"
its up to you but i normally suggest at least trying the latest version of roms before downgrading. I have had no problems so far with rls4
last " maybe setcpu profiles?"
no you do not want to use setcpu and collins. To give an understanding why. Basically HAVS set cpu profiles and collins all do a similar function. they scale your cpu speed depending on how it is set up. having a mix of these causes issues because one may say the cpu should be at 500mhz and another may come along and say 900mhz and then it overrides the previous setting where the first one then tries to set it back to 500. additionally how they determine it on demand, conservative etc can be different so they end up fighting with each other. this can cause additional battery drain and negates the effects of the tweaks.
in my opinion the best you can do is to flash mun rls 4 with netarchy kernel no havs (cfs) and then the collins tweak flashed over it. If you want additional life you can try juice defender/ultimate defender as well if there are times when your phone screen is off for decent chunks of time.

Wow thank you.
That really helped.
But I knew alot of those things just recently.I actually need help finding out what kernel to use I know netarchy nohavs CFS but which one 4.2.1 or 4.1.9? That's my problem.
can I use the htc kernel# 17 with the tweak or no?
I know not to use Setcpu with collins tweak.
But really,I can't use a havs kernel like CFS more aggressive by netarchy and collins tweak? It will give me bad battery life?!
I don't know what to do, should I use Setcpu or collins tweak?
What rom and what exact kernel tho?
For the tweak what governor should I use?
I mean I know when you use Setcpu you use smartass governor because it runs best right?
Can I get some help on that please?
well does RLS 4 run great with collins tweak? Will kings BFS or CFS# 9 work great with the tweak? I want optimal battery life. I once had 30 hrs with very very very heavy use.
Btw I want to customize the settings on the tweak what do I use?
What's ksoft?
How do I know if the tweak is working properly?
And if I can improve it.
But overall that was great. Your the only one to respond.
Id gladly donate, please some more help would be great.

I mean is it really worth it ?
I'm not really understanding the instructions.
I could use some help.
Please.

I have been testing this out and here is what i have found.
does it work yes...... witht hat said it interfears with setCPU or Havs. Now this isnt necisarily a bad thing i jsut want to point out it is an ither or situation. from what i can tell a decent underclocking profile will get yousimilar results in battery life.
If you downloaded from myns he says it shoudl be set up and ready to go from when you flash it. the things to watch is to make sure you have one of the 2 compatible kernels (no havs netarchy or stock) and flash them first. make sure you dont have any over/underclocking utility going then flash the battery tweak.
thats all it should take and you shoudl be set up. As each phone is diffrent and because i havent done a lot of settings changes from default with collins tweak it may be possible to get better life but for me at least it is very comprable to what i got with setCPU underclocking my phone

collin battery tweak help?

Hello xda members, i was hoping to get some questions resolved on this battery tweak.
I just installed a no havs kernal along with a ported version of collins battery tweak for my non-sense rom.
My question is how do i configure it , to make sure its on.
i know from myns original colling mod post i should use like 2 commands
pidof batt.sh , on myns post it says i should have a number pop up after entering this assure that the tweak is working --- i enter this and i the following numbers 3293 2041
the next one that i used is batt-cfg
and then i get the menu posted on myns post this shows the script it working.
my question is how exactly do you know if the collins battery mod is running? should i do anything with the menu that i get when i enter batt-cfg or it already running?
thanks in advance
Collin's battery tweak is pretty much a script that clocks down your processor depending on your battery level, at least thats what it does at the core, I'm not sure if Myn's version has all of the CollinPH teaks that he did on his platform.
I unfortunately had no luck with the tweak, the ksoft process kept skyrocketing on me, and I'm not an expert with kernel - hardware processes, so I don't have the slightest clue on how to go about debugging this. (Although, if I had to guess, its a recursion issue with the script changing the last battery level variable and then testing it again)
However, to see if you're having any luck, you can use OS Monitor to see process cpu %, and what governor and clock your CPU is currently at. I'd be careful setting the clock with OS monitor, it has crashed my device every time I've tried.
You can also try putting on CurrentWidget to see what the draw is on your device, however, I'm not quite sure how accurate it is, mostly cause I haven't looked, but its very nice for a baseline, and you can create a text logfile of the draw and current apps running.
Ya I also trieed to do this tweak with no luck the ksoft was way to high have you checked out the site now he has more in depth guide but I still could not get it to work
sup
has anybody else tried this tweak heard people had great battery life out of it but i just cant get it to work can anybody help please

[Q] what are the best battery saving setcpu settings?

Hi, I just want apologize beforehand because I know a lot of people have asked this question before.. but what are your setcpu settings? I have setcpu 2.0.4 cm6 and snap kernel 7.11. I have calkulin's settings right now, but I still notice my battery depleting at a serious rate. Any help? I've tried the perflock disabler and that doesn't apply to me. Don't yell at me, I know its been asked a lot.
I'd like to see what others have to say because I'm new to this as well, but this is how I have it set up:
Charging/Full: 1036max/245min
Screen Off: 245max/245min
Battery <25%: 652max/245min
Battery <11%: 460max/245min
Temp > 40.0*C: 652max/245min
I see pretty good battery life numbers, but I'm sure they could be better. Like I said i really havent tested too much.
Install the new SBC kernel that works on ASOP. This should solve your problem..Either that or install a Sense rom and do mod to remove Sense.

[Q] Kernel, V6, and viperMOD questions

Hey guys, I was hoping some people would be able to help me out with a few quick questions that I have.
First, I am using deck 1.2.1.
Second, what do people recommend between Savaged-Zen and Tiamat (also versions)? I have mainly used Savaged-Zen 2.2.1 BFS in the past but am not opposed to switching. Also, it seems that Barnacle Wifi Tether stops working after around 20 minutes when I use Savaged-Zen on Deck. Haven't experimented enough to determine whether or not that is based off of the ROM, the Kernel, or a mixture. If anyone has a better hotspot app I would also appreciate that.
Third, I have V6 SuperCharger, but I am really unsure of which settings to apply and if I need to run it at boot and what not. Any advice would be very useful. So far I have been using it set to MegaRAM 2 I believe.
And finally, I heard viperMOD is the way to go for better battery life. Unfortunately I have absolutely no knowledge of how much I should undervolt, how it will effect my system, and so forth. My goal is to get slightly better battery life but still have everything run nice and smooth on my phone so if anyone has recommended voltages to achieve that please let me know.
Sorry for all of the questions. I am pretty knowledgeable about the basics of rooting, flashing, and customizing the phone but all of this stuff is out of my league.
Thanks for the help!

I run V6 with the Balanced 3 settings (option 6 i think). Seems to work really well.
As far as ViPERMOD, i under volted all -100, in -25 incriments, with the exception of the 384MHz, i only under volted them -75 due to it not wanting to screen on after an all night charge.
Hope this helps some
civic, thanks for the tips in your post regarding SuperCharger V6 and ViperMod.
I have been messing around trying to get both to work for my phone for several days now.
Some quick details:
ROM: SalvageMod 1.4
Kernel: Default
Installed apps: Busybox 1.18.2, Script Manager, latest version of Superuser
Issue #1 (SuperCharger): No matter which settings I choose, after I reboot and run the SuperCharger script again to double-check, it always tells me the settings have changed back. I can get it to work if I use Script Manager to run the 99SuperCharger script in /etc/init.d at boot, but I'm wondering if I'm doing anything wrong to get this to happen.
Issue #2 (ViperMod): While messing around with the settings, I was trying to mirror the settings of someone else with the same phone and using the same ROM: 850 floor, -100 min. Setting the floor of 850 worked without issue, but every time I tried to move the min down by 100, 75, or 50, my phone would hard lock either immediately (100) or after a second or 2 (75, or 50). I see that you moved yours down in increments of 25, should I do it this way until I get the -100? Do you have any other tips to a new Vipermod user.
Thanks very much in advance for any other information you can provide. This site has given me a lot of guidance since I really got into the nitty gritty of using my phone last week.

#1 - Using Script Manager, go to /data/99SuperCharger and open it. tell it to run as root and run at boot. Note that this is not the actual V6 script. thats what i did to get it to always keep the limits after a reboot.
#2 - Never tried it like that. I just started with the Kernel defaults and worked my way down with the exception of 384000... I was also running tiamat's kernel...
Hope this helps some!

[Q] AOSP, Kernals, and a Newbie.

I am fairly new to this scene.
I recently got an EVO and decided I hated Sense so I went looking for a stock ROM. Light and fast. I have tried Cyanogenmod7 and Salvage Mod. The thing is, the battery life I am getting with these ROMs is awful. Cyanogen I was losing 20% an hour with the screen off, the phone untouched. Salvage Mod, I am down to 85% in an hour and a half.
I have read about kernals and how they can help with battery life, speed up performance, etc. What are some that I should look into using and how do I go about applying them? Is there a failsafe if its a bad flash?
Also since Sense feels so slow and bloated (to me at least) what are some other good AOSP ROM's out there? That have a little more to it but is not loaded down with unnecessary tools I will never use.
Personally I run:
rom: CM7 Nightlies
Kernel: Tiamat 4.0.6 [3.3.7 is the GOD of battery life]
Mods: Viper mod, undervolted at 825mv floor and -100mv
CPU: Under clocked at 128 min and 537 max
Many people use my setup now and get great results, so I would recommend it to you.

Doesnt the nightly ROM tend to have more issues or do they run better than the stable builds?
What are the Mods? Viper, and then what does it mean undervolted at 825mv floor and -100mv?
Thanks for the help thus far!
mods = modification type tools
viperMOD is a mod put out by viperboy. it allows you to undervolt your kernel.
less voltage should translate to less battery consumption. take your time and read the post, it may look intimidating but it's rather simple. NOTE: if you lower your voltage too much your EVO will get stuck at the boot screen during the next reboot. do not fear...simply go into recovery and reflash your nightly this will reset your voltages. i'd suggest lowering the voltage in increments of 25 or 50 till it hangs then raise it by 25. run with that for a few days to see how it feels.
you may want to look at the Supercharger script (see signature), its not a battery saving mod, its more for memory management and system responsiveness. again, the OP looks intimidating but a reflash will reset your system. (ie: you will have to rerun both ViperMOD and SuperCharger each time you flash a new nightly)
nightly's may or may not be more stable than the RC. it all depends on what was added the day before. the easiest way to find a good nightly is to scan thru the nightly thread for a nightly that is a day or two old...if it causes issues folks will cry and moan in that thread...once you get a nightly that works well for you i'd suggest you stick with it until the link below indicates a new feature or fix that you need/want.
this page will list the EVO related changes included in the latest nightly
http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=supersonic
see signature links to viper, super and nightly threads.
have fun.
Salvage is awesome. Extremely light and plays well with V6 Scripts. Try them all out, give them a least a couple of days each.
How long does it take for the battery life to stabilize? Its looking like Salvage is averaging out to about 10% an hour, but I know I could do a whole lot better than that.
Any other Mods, kernals, or ROMs (especially AOSP) you guys would recommend?

After flashing a rom, charge the phone up to 100%, then go into recovery and wipe the battery stats; you'll see the change in roughly 2-3 days, as it has to 'settle' in.
note: there is a difference between a SBC and nonSBC kernel. this has to do with charging the battery. there are some folks that do like/trust SBC and others (myself included) that appreciate SBC. basically, SBC pretty much ensures that if you plug in your phone at night before you sleep when you take it off the charger in the morning you will have 100% battery to work with. Stock (or nonSBC kernels) will charge to 100% then stop charging and drain to 90% then charge to 100% rinse repeat. this means that when you take it off the charger you will have somewhere between 90-100% charge.
also, keep note of which applications are sync'ing and at what interval.
for example: do you need facebook to sync each hour? do you need weather to sync each hour? etc.
Also you might want to try SavagedZen RC4 and/or its kernels. They have built in HAVS (like Vipermod) and on the fly SBC (you can just uncheck and check it off)..
Jakister, do you have a link to that ROM? Reading up on it, it sounds awesome. I followed the main thread and the link to download it is dead
Nevermind, it must have just been down when I tried to DL it.
Try this one: http://mirror.savaged-zen.com/ forgot abt that dead link..happened to me when u try it from "mirror" instead from "download now" link. Works?
That one worked! I have flashed the Tiamat (sp?) kernal and the battery life was great for awhile but then it started to dive again. Also, the GPS could never grab ahold on the Cyogen mod. One of these days I will get it right!
Any other AOSP kernals you guys would recommend me look into? I also have the smartass governor on and have my CPU marked to go from 245-729. Do I need to make that lower? I figured 729 was a good compromise from 998
Any other AOSP Roms you guys would recommend?
I have looked at
Salvage Mod
Savaged Zen
Cyanogen Mod
Are there any other ones worth looking into? I think I need to figure out undervolting or find a better kernal
My Configuration
Savaged-Zen kernels have a new download server which can be found here: http://sz.munkibizness.com/ I personally use MIUI with a Savaged-Zen kernel along with viperMOD and Supercharger V6 for speed and simplicity.
How do Vipermod and Supercharger work exactly? You change the settings for those in the Terminal?
Yes, you change the settings for them in the Terminal. However, for vipermod, I use Terminal Emulator (available free in the Market) and for Supercharger V6 I use Script Manager (available free in Market also) and BusyBox Installer (in Market). For BusyBox Installer, make sure you have 1.18.2 or lower installed from within the app.
