So I again decided to try the newest miui rom for my incredible, but as with all prior times I've tried this rom, the wifi won't work. Whenever I switch it on, it tries to scan for networks for a bit before giving up, saying "unable to scan for networks" and then turning itself off (the wifi that is).
I tried looking online, and it seems this isn't just a problem with the rom itself, but maybe something else?
I've tried full wiping before installing and everything. Nothing works. Also, the wifi works fine in skyraider sense rom.
I could really use some advice. Is anyone else having this issue with miui rom?
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
The same problem with HTC Desire.
Other ROMs work fine.
Constantly obtaining IP address or scanning.
Any fix for this upcoming or in the new release?
Try flashing the ROM from ROM Manager with full wipe (data/dalvik/cache) then flashing it again over it, using install zip from sdcard -> choose zip from sdcard in Clockworkmod Recovery this time. I had that issue in Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo at first then I did that and it fixed it.
I have the same problem on my Milestone. Every other ROM connects immediately thorough WiFi and every version of MIUI don't
Could You PGleo86 tell me exactly step by step how to do this? Because i think i might doing it wrong. I've installed Rom Manager and it got me Flash Clockworkmod Recovery thorough the OP data transfer. Then i chose 'Install ROM from SD card' and pick OpenRecovery/update/miui_file.zip
Should i install Recovery Clockwork in a different way? Manualy put it on sd card and if yes then how, where. Adding update.zip Instead of Androidiani OpenRecovery 3.3 that i have now.
Sorry for my english.

How it's done:
You have clockworkmod recovery on there already, I assume.
Put your ROM's zip on the sdcard.
Boot into clockworkmod through ROM Manager
Use the option for wiping all caches
Use install zip from sdcard to get to the zip you put on there and install. post back here with results

Boot into clockwork doesn't work After clickin this option, i see for just a second image od recovery but it seems to not load completely and boot again loading MIUI again. So i can't go into manual recovery. Maybe it's because i have still andriodiani recovery on the sdcard.
And what about crashing my phone with this app? Is it save already to use it ?

Is there any app tool to trace processes responsible for WiFi , to find out why there's no connection? Maybe i could paste log for some developers who would understand my Milestone MIUI case.
Update 29.01.
FroyoMod 2.4. - the same thing. Wifi can't connect.
So only GOT 2.2.1 and official 2.1.

Noob here. No longer a virgin after this post. Ok, I have been reading for weeks and have most of the basic understanding down on phone setup and flashing using ROM Manager/CWM but still having issues I can't find answers to so here goes.
Samsung Captivate running 2.2 flashed from ODIN one click. Backed up apps and data using TI backup. I have installed ROM Manager, picked the Dragon ROM to flash and here are my problems.
1. ROM Manager 4.2.0.2 - Pick Flash CWM Recovery- 2.5.1.2, pick captivate, "successfully downloaded CWM Recovery" (did not say "installed" CW Recovery). Where did it download to and how do I install? Its not in My Files. Some of the recovery options are missing when in Sys recovery <3e>and don't look like the options listed in posts.
A. Tried to backup current ROM with RManager - It gave me a stamped file name, said "backed up" within a few seconds but when I click "manage and restore backups" I just get a black screen. Can't find the backed up ROM nor the files listed on one of the posts??? I read it takes several minutes and the copied files scroll. This did not happen.
B. Install ROM from SD card - Everyone has said make sure the ROM is installed in the "root", but exactly which file are we talking about??. No one ever says which file exactly. I use Droid Explorer and there is a file named SD Card, then SD. Which file is the ROM to be installed in? No file called "root". I used SD file and renamed it update.zip. I click "install ROM from SD" then pick SD and the update.zip file, click all three options (B/U ROM, wipe data N cache, dalvik cache then ok. Phone reboots, click reinstall packages, ERROR: E:failed to verify whole file signature - E: signature verification failed, installation aborted.
2. I have read to reinstall 2.1 via ODIN before flashing new ROM's. Trying to flash "Dragon ROM RC7" "Full Flash" which is 2.2.1. Can I not just flash this over 2.2?
I know there is more. I was up till 2 last night and tried to get all issues posted here. Like I said, pretty new to the ROM thing but not a dummy and can follow instructions. Have read a ton but there is sooo much out there. If anyone can help me through this I would be very greatful. Hitting the frustration point real quick now.
Found this: ROM Mgr 4.2.0.2 "Samsung users: You must flash a Clockwork compatible kernel first." This could be one issue. Which kernal? Have not tried to flash any kernals yet. Still reading.
Same issue
I'm having the exact same issue. Tried install and uninstall, no go.
Which part did you have a problem with. I have resolved the CWM issue and the errors I was getting in recovery.
you should youtube a tutorial on how to do this... it will take 10 minutes to explain how to do it all and it would be easier than going back and forth through forum messages. google can be your friend also if you just use it. if you eff it up too bad you can always put your phone back into dl mode and odin it back to stock.
True, Google can be you're best friend but at the same time, I was able to find a detailed fix right on the forum. After another hour or so of searches. Just installed my second ROM yesterday and running great. Chose the Dragon ROM for the Captivate. It's Great!! and I happen to be a fan of Dragons!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
And for phone specific questions post them in the phones forum, though not in developers forum
i found that rom manager does not work for certain phones, period. i use odin and flash cwm 2.5.1 to my phone while in download mode. then i can use the 3 button combo to get into cwm,oh yeah and dont forget to back up your rom version once in cwm! i then wipe cache (user data) and delvic cache and batt stats. then i go into a folder i created on "root" (which i made on the sd card) i store my roms/kernels themes ect...in this folder i pick which rom to install "please do your homework" make sure u know which rom ect, is right for your phone, or u will have a nice shinny paperweight!!!
ok so, now your in your folder with the rom of choice, flash install from .zip let it install.......takes awhile just be patient. thats about all i can say. took me awhile but its well worth it, i have a way better understanding about everything now. hope it helps, i own the mesmerise and found rom manager is useless for this type of application so ditch it!
Hi Guys,
I update the wireless N driver for my EVO today, I follow the following thread (2nd method);
[FIX] Wireless N on Evo 4.24.651.1 ROM
I did everything with the exception of Wipe dalvik cache and cache (because I dont know how to).
After I reboot my phone and I try to enable the WIFI i get the "WIFI error message".
Any ideas on how to fix it ?
HTC EVO 2.3.3
Baseband 2.15.00.05.02
Build 4.26.651.1
Thanks for the help.
I had this error when I flashed my kernel and didn't clear all the caches in the rom manager settings. If you updated through a zip and rom manager I would try doing that.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Thanks for the reply Sp0d.
I used Titanium Backup to clear dalvik, but I still have the same error.
Can you tell me how to do it ? I root my EVO Today using unrevoked.
Thanks
reboot into recovery, and wipe dalvik, and cache, also I heard to turn off wifi before doing this also.
Question
From the Recovery Menu, which option do I need to use ?
To do it from within the recovery menu, I think you have to choose apply update from zip. But I think the file has to be called update.zip
It would probably be easier to download 'rom manager' from the market place (there is a free version) then I would download Adao file manager.
Once you get both installed, use Adao manager to browse to the download folder and select your wifi fix.zip file. It SHOULD open with rom manager and bring up the options to clear the caches and flash. Once you click that it will restart your phone into recover and flash it for you.
Hope this helps!
Which recovery are you using?
This is what I have done so far;
I download the driver bcm4329.ko (see attachment)
Unzip on the SD
Using Root Explorer I copy driver and paste on /system/lib/modules
Change the permission of 'bcm4329.ko' to 'rw-r--r--'
Clean Dalvik Using Titanium Pro
Reboot the phone
After the reboot I try to enable the WIFI and I get the "WIFI Error"
I have the custom recovery from Unrevoked.
Okay couple of issues, lets try to work them one at a time. 1st this N fix is for very specific roms. I don't see in any of the above posts exactly what you flashed.
----NOTICE----
This fix is for 4.24 sense based ROMs only using the HTC #1 kernel. The driver is kernel specfic. If you or your ROM uses a custom kernel, do NOT flash this. It will break your wifi.
It will NOT work on CM7/ASOP ROMs at all. Do NOT flash this onto a non-sense ROM. If I recall correctly, CM7 should already have Wifi N support build into the ROM. (Let me know if this isn't the case and I will look into it. EDIT: Confirmed, ASOP/CM7 has N support built in.)

So assuming that you have this on the right rom and kernel the next issue is which of the three recoveries you have. I assume you know how to boot into recovery. For Amon Ra to wipe Caches go to the wipe menu. For TWRP go to the flash zip menu and wipe is under that. For clockwork, well, I forget, but if that's what you have let me know and I'll flash it and give you directions.
I was able to clear caches using clockwork.
I re-download the file and change the permissions on it. Right now is working.
Thanks for the time and effort.
No problem. Glad I could help.
This is a thread where people can discuss what is working and not working for them for the boot manager app. I will begin by asking if anyone else is having problems using bootmanager with the magnolia ROM. My next question would be is anyone else having a problem not being able to turn on wifi for miui if its put as an sdROM? The only roms that really seem to be fully functional are CM7 and OMFG. What ROM are most people using for the phone ROM, and what roms do you have working fully as sd card roms?
I haven't had much luck with the Boot Manager so far... I can make the backup of my current rom (Miui) and try and install the zips of other downloaded roms and get almost all the way finished and then I will get an error message.. So I have given up and thought I'd wait for an update and see if that may help.
Got Miui Working fine.
After some work and reinstallation I was able to get miui working on the sdcard ROM, for boot manager. I will keep this updated if I notice any more fixes.
A quixk suggestion would be to clear them and reinstall boot manager and restart your phone, after doing that and reinstalling the ROMS on ext2 I noticed they worked/ installed, when they wouldn't before.
After getting the hang of it I have been able to flash any ROM, kernel, nightly or whatever. It's awesome, I think.
I do everything to the phone rom slot through regular clockwork recovery, as if the app didn't exist. Then from the phone rom I flash everything else to the other slots. I always go back and boot into the phone rom before I flash anything to the other slots. Not sure if that's right but it has worked for me.
It would be cool if you could restore an existing nandroid you had into one of the slots but I don't think they are formatted the same. Not sure.
Can someone explain the method of how to perform the setup?
To setup, run the "setup phone rom", which only takes a few seconds. What this does is make a copy of your boot file in case you screw something up. Once this is done, you can install up to 4 different ROM's on your SD card and then boot into them from this same program.
If something gets screwed up along the way and you cannot boot your phone, boot into CWR, install a zip from a file, and find the update.zip in the bootmanager/phonerom(or whatever ROM folder you want to boot) folder.
Currently I am running MIUI, TSM pool party, TSM gangbang, Skyraider Zues, and newt's 3.0 port.
I have gingerbread on my evo 4g....
I'm in the process of trying to root my EVO solely to gain WIFI tethering access for my new TV.
I've read tutorials about rooting here and there over the past year but never felt like i quite got it, so i didn't do it. Well I decided to try it out with this guide:
it won't let me post the url, but it's the one on goodandevo for gingerbread
Everything went well with this process up until the Nandroid backup. I backed up I guess my current stock ROM?(although I don't know where to find it??) I then downloaded the "Wireless-N bug fix" rom and stuck it on my SD card. I then flashed it through my boot screen, then selected the zip......
and here is where i'm at:
1. booted into my phone, it looks completely unchanged(stock rom). HOWEVER, wifi antenna quit working.
2. i went into the boot screen and "s-off" shows so something worked?
3. when i try to install the wifi tethering, it says i'm not rooted.
OBVIOUSLY i'm doing something wrong. the article mentions Amon Ra Recovery as well as PC36IMG.zip and being the noob that i am as it relates to rooting, these mean nothing to me. any help is appreciated.
If you boot into recovery from the bootloader, do you see clockwork or a triangle and red ! ? If you see the latter, you have no recovery, and the amon_ra recovery can be found in the the development section [type it in the search], where you will get the PC36IMG and instructions on how to flash it. Then you can flash the zip in recovery. Also, if you download wireless tether from the market [free] you'll be set to tether.
i went into my bootloader and then recovery. the screen went to the "white HTC EVO" screen, then it loaded into a REVOLUTIONARY screen with this menu
-reboot system now
-apply update from sd card
-wipe data/factory reset
etc.
so you're saying a need the amon-RA and the pc36img.zip? will this fix the wifi antenna problem too? thx again for your help.

I believe the revolutionary is a form a clockwork and you CAN flash your wifi zip now, but you may get an error about amend scripting, ect. And amon_ra will be in the PC36IMG that you flash in the bootloader. From there, you will flash your zip, and you should be good.
i have now flashed 4.24.651.1-802.11n-fix-signed.zip twice from my REVOLUTIONARY recovery screen and it says it loaded successfully, but still won't load apps requiring root, AND wifi is still broken =(

The first part sounds like you don't have superuser installed, or the binaries didn't flash; it happened while I rooted a friend's thunderbolt.
1. download and install superuser from the market
2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=682828 < download and flash the second zip in recovery [the froyo/eclair]
3. go into the superuser app, tap settings, then hit update, and it should be working
And the wifi broke after you flashed the zip?
ok. i flashed the pc36img.zip file and updated. also then reflashed the 4.24.651.1-802.11n-fix-signed.zip and WIFI radio still isn't working??
super bummer

I would recommend restoring your original backup, because it seems that the zip file broke your wifi, that's when it stopped working correct? Or try flashing a new stock rooted rom of that same firmware and try it again, because I'm sure the wifi driver was under attack.

ok tech roxxx. thx. can i restore to my original rom after being rooted? i've never restored, how is that done? i went into bootloader and then recovery, then restore and chose nandroid restore. it said it couldn't find the file?
stuff is confusing sometimes.
also, now that i placed the pc36img.zip on sd root file, everytime i go into bootloader it ask's if i want to update. is it okay to move that file? delete it? what's the way of handing it, and any other zip files for that matter in the root sd?

Sorry, I had to run out. That would be he correct method to restore. Though to handle the PC36IMG, you can delete it, or rename it to somethign else like PC36IMG_amon, so you know what it is for future use, if you ever had to flash the recovery again.
still no wifi? i tried restoring but it said it couldn't find the file?
tried flashing a new radio, but it still won't start up the wifi?
You should have a folder on your sdcard for backup... Not sure what revolutionary calls it... But it has to be there unless you moved it or anything. The recovery looks for an exact folder with exact file names so if anything changed it won't work.
On the wireless n fix, you shouldn't have flashed that as I believe wireless n is already a part of gingerbread... May be wrong but I never had to flash it. All you will need is wifi tether app from market.
At this point you may have to do a full wipe and flash a new ROM, granted you will lose all your data. However you can flash the new Sprint update, which I am on now and it is quite smooth.
Be sure your contacts are backed up to Google. If you have apps you want backed up get Titanium backup. Emails and texts will be gone, though i'm sure there is a way i've never really cared.
Grab this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1243320
Wipe everything in recovery except sdcard then flash the .zip you download from that link.
You will still have a mostly stock Evo but it's rooted with superuser already installed. Then get wireless tether app from the market.

thank you i'm her old man. i'm going to try what you've said now. i'll post back with results. as for my back up? i'm not sure where it went, and as long as it doesn't mess my phone up, i'm going to clean up my sd card a tad too. i don't think it will harm anything. never should have flashed that rom, goodandevo made it sound benign.
thanks again tho.
**UPDATE**
i downloaded titanium backup and i get an error that "superuser" has forced closed. something is a miss? i'm more than frustrated. i'm really not concerned with email's/contacts since they're all cloud based. what's the easiest way to get a clean root like what you have?? at this point i'd probably drive over my phone if someone said that's what it took....=/
in recovery it says:
wipe ALL usuerdata/factory reset
wipe cache
wipe dalvik-cache
wipe SDCARD (don't wipe this i right)
wipe boot
wipe system
wipe SDCARD (don't wipe this)
wipe SDEXT
wipe DATA: batttery

i wiped them and it bricked my phone. luckily the manager at sprint was uber nice and gave me a replacement since i'd been a longtime customer.
i guess i have no business rooting my phone if i don't understand the process. i figured i'd root it now since evo 4g probably won't be getting anymore MAJOR android updates? but....maybe i should leave this one be.
are there any close to fail safe guides for "rooting for dummies?"
Revolutionary error message
Hello, I am new to the this forum. I did as the best I could to find a relevant forum to post this.
When I run revolutionary to root my HTC Evo 4G I get an error message that reads.
"Failed to communicate with existing ADB (Android Debugging Bridge) service"
I have the lastest SDK and everything downloaded.
Can anyone explain why this keeps happening? (Note: I am running this through vitualbox for windows 7 because my current OS is the windows 8 Developer preview and doesn't install the HTC drivers.
Any help on this would be very much appreciated. Thank you for your time

So, my rooted SGS2 have no way of booting as of this moment.
I wanted to install Cyanogenmod (stable) and downloaded it via ROM manager. After that I got told to reboot into recovery and wipe data and cache. I did that and now when I goto update Cyanogenmod is not there. ROM manager had not downloaded it to the SDcard but somewhere else, which is now gone. I have no other ROMs on the SDcard either so I am quite bummed. When I try to reboot it just keeps rebooting. Is there anything I can do? (I didn't take any backups except apps with titanium)
Thanks.
If you have recovery mode, you can mount your phone as USB storage, and copy a ROM.
You can also copy the ROM to an sd-card, I guess? Never flashed with ROM manager.
OR! You flash one with Odin

Try this i think your problem is your selecting the "apply update from sdcard" option do not select this instead boot into recovery again and select "install zip from sdcard" then select "choose zip from sdcard" you will now have access to your sdcard just scroll down untill yoou see your Cyanogenmod zip and install it,hope that helped.

you cant install cm7 via odin, you can only flash samsung roms. Best to download an official rom and flash it via odin then start from scratch. But to be honest, if you havent been able to figure this out then maybe cm7 isnt the rom for you. No offense, just it can cause some issues if things arent done correctly, like whats happening now. I always thounght rom manager is to be used only when your actually on cm7.

Chill out bro, Im trying to help you here, i didnt want to cause offense, Im just saying that cm7 is quite tricky sometimes, also it pays to check all rom downloads before doing any kinds of wiping of the phone. Also having a Nandroid backup is always suggested.

On your SD card, go to clockworkmod folder, then download, then whatever it named cyanogen, then look in there. That is where ROM Manager downloads it.

What rom and Kernel did you come from?
Why don't you try Litening Rom? It is quite old but I think it will install via Odin. You should not have any problems with CSC as I think Litening Rom is multi-csc.
May I ask why you want to use CyanogenMod vs Samsung-based roms? CyanogenMod is not entirely stable and I think the camera app is not anywhere near as good. You will also have problems with FM Radio and MHL.

I just like to change things up sometimes, and Cyanogenmod has a good reputation so I wanted to try it.

If youve had litening rom, then you should have odin, because thats the only way to flash litening, your gonna have to just flash something else and retry.

Why are you telling me things I already know?
First you need to "toogle signature verification" in settings and in this way turn it off.
After that you should find the update.zip in the Clockwordmod folder, and it should flash fine, and there's always USB mode
