so this is an annoying little problem i've noticed but i have a feeling there's really not much i can do about it, but i figured i'd ask...
whenever i'm at home and connected to wifi, and wifi calling is on, and i'm on a call and walk out the door, get in my car and start to back out of the driveway, as soon as i'm outside of the wifi signal range, my phone drops the call. i'm guessing the technology isn't there to switch the call back to a regular connection midcall. of course when this happens i turn off the wifi, my 3g signal comes back, and then i call the person back. it's not the biggest deal in the world, but it is kind of a pain and i always forget about it when i'm on a call and about to leave the house.
so is this normal behavior like i'm guessing, or is there a way around this?
thanks
Dave
Thats the on.ly way it works right now

Is everyone getting voice and internet at the same time, my coworker said sprint wont let me cause his evo cant, but mine works the 3g dissapears when in a call so I just tab down and hit 4g to google and talk at the same time

4g allows you to do this not 3g. But from what I have heard with the network upgrade will be able to do this....

Never tried it but I'm curious, does the GPS work while on the phone or is that considered data?
GPS works with a call - not sure if it's still streaming data or working off extended cache.
I was on a call and got into my web browser while on my bluetooth to test it out - works. Pretty sweet
Sprint and VZ's implementation of 3G does not allow 3G+data at the same time. The technology supports it, the carriers have chose not to implement it for whatever reasons.
Use can use voice+data on Wifi and 4G because they are separate from the CDMA radio.
Also while using GPS, the software sort of "reads ahead" when it comes to the streaming of maps. However, if you are on a 3G connection while using navigation, when you switch back to the navigation software while on a phone call, you will find that the phone will continue with directions for a minute or two, and then the map will go blank, even though the location will continue to move, as the phone has GPS location, but no maps to tell it where exactly you are.
Hope this helps
^^ This right here.
A couple friends have complained I cut out while on wifi calling. I don't notice them dropping. Any ideas?
I'm on Darkside 2.5.1, my network hardware is...connected to Linksys E3000 operating as an AP, upstream is a Linksys E4200, Cox is my ISP 25 Meg circuit. Ping times over the same wifi connection are always under 35ms.

I had that happen when I would walk to far away from the Router...is this happening when your standing close to it? Seems odd for sure.
Kinda off topic but have u noticed voice lag when using wifi calling?
I have stopped using wifi calling as the voice lag is disturbing compared to using the cell network which has no voice lag issues.. Makes zero sense to me.

I havent noticed any lag, just apparently cutting out. Im not far away from my router either...full signal. Im going to try an experiment and connect to the main router upstairs instead of my AP downstairs...maybe something in that connection is causing it.
I've had problems when using a bluetooth headset while on wifi calling. This happens on stock and on both roms I've tried. I don't have trouble with wifi calling as long as I stay off of the headset.

I've experienced the same issue but always blamed it on my Internet connection.

Its not the internet connection, for some reason the current ROMS dont play well with wifi sharing, or should I say Wifi and Data connection. I was running Juggernaut5.0 when I noticed that the wifi would stop working after 15mins. I also used All Share and it at the same time wifi calling would stop working. I also noticed when I woke the phone from sleep state, the 4g symbol would return and then I would loose wifi calling. The 4g would disappear and only wifi would show but calling still wouldnt connect. I returned to my nandroid of the stock rooted and I havent had an issue since. Wifi calling will always work along with allshare. One thing that I did notice is that airplane mode would help keep the consistency across the board. IDK
P.S. my gateway is in my bedroom where I mainly use my phone. Most of the time its in arms reach, sits right next to my xbox
Well I set my phone to connect to my main router upstairs instead of the AP downstairs. It seems to have helped a bit. Friends reported far less cut outs. Only a couple in a 20 min call.
Perhaps there are others with similar set up having similar issues this may help.

Is there an app that I can download somewhere or is this something that someone could throw together for use with the Nexus?
I work right outside of Tmobile service area. I usually get about a bar or 2, on a good day. I rarely ever use the phone, didnt even realize these things could make calls anymore!
Anywho, I had an Amaze which had wifi calling and the call quality would be crystal clear over wifi calling and did wonders for saving battery.
Any help would be much appreciated!
I was disappointed to find out also that it was unavailable on the GNex and from what I read on it it's near impossible to port it over.
An alternative may be a combo of Google Voice & Groove IP, I use that combo on my Moto Xoom Tablet and it work fine.
OK so maybe I don't understand how groove IP works....but when I make a call over wifi the phone is still looking for a mobile signal. While I was in the call the phone showed one bar or service. So at that point isn't the lack of cellular signal still going to eat away at my battery?
I suppose grove is made more for a situation where you have no service at all? I tried putting the phone in airplane mode and make a call that way which does work.....but then your screwed with the texts......ugh....FML! Ha.

Heres a screenshot showing one bar even when I am on wifi within a call over groove. If i remember correctly when wifi calling was being used on the Amaze, the mobile signal would be turned off completely.
Hopefully with the One S out now we'll be able to get wifi calling? Anyone heard any progress on that?

Download "Viber". This is an OTA/WIFI calling app. Also dl "phone + WIFI on/off" widget. Both available in the market.

Viber requires both parties to have the app installed if I'm not mistaken. I think that is unrealistic.

wifi was never crystal clear on the t989
that is why we left tmobile it would cut out swell groove should work fine why dont you disable data then turn wifi on and link up tjat way it will work like a charm i promise
I'm not sure I follow you too well. I'm still a noob. Would you care to elaborate on that.

Try the Vonage app. You can make calls over Wifi and data the other person does not need to have the Vonage app to receive calls. It's only good for making outbound calls on Wifi or data. (Doesn't count against mins either) If you receive a call it goes through regular cell service and bucket of mins. You can make calls to any where in the US for free. Right now you can use up to 3,000 mins a month for free to make calls. (Promo with no end date set)
But in order to receive calls the radio would have to be left on or else they will go directly to voicemail right. Which means I would have to leave the radio on.....so once again I would have low reception leading to eating up better. But anyways I think you maybe mistaken....vonage app says the other person must have the app. FML! Ha.

The signal on my phone keeps disconnecting then connecting again. Is there any reason why?
That makes two of us its annoying i hope theres a fix for this.

Yeah man, It's usually only for certain ROMS
Do you guys mean to say that your lose complete wireless service (cellular signal) or do you mean you're losing 3G and then it comes back? Cause recently I've started experiencing my 3G network conn. goes bye bye, then I have to restart or often just disable mobile network and re-enable it and it comes back.. Regardless, this is a new symptom and fairly recent and it's begun to get on my nerves.
I'm saying the signal blanks out and fully DC'd then comes back.
Ive had my note 2 now for about a month now and the phone itself has been great. During the first week I experienced horrible signal but that has all stopped recently. I now get 4g everywhere I go around my home and work.
But.. one problem persists. Missing missed call notifications and delayed voice mails. This has been going on since I got the phone and I though it was only a wifi calling bug until today.
Multiple people have called me and left a voice mail which I will only receive once I use my phone. Ie: text/make a call. No missed call notification shows up but I will receive texts and voicemails once I actively use my phone.
I have done tests with wifi calling where my phone would be charging for a few hours and a call would go straight to voicemail. Also pinging my phone yields a 1k+ms ping response and then normal 50ms which leads me to beleive the phone goes into some sort of sleep state and has to be actively on the network to receive any call or text. I thought it was just wifi calling but now its happening without being connected to wifi.
Does anyone have any information on this type of problem?

I had the issues you described with wifi calling. It was so unreliable that I stopped using it. On the regular cell connection I no longer miss calls.
I wish using regular cell was reliable as the coverage is great in my area. But after yesterday's problem I can't trust it anymore.
I'm back to using wifi calling and im using an app called wake lock to keep the wifi connected, as the normal no sleep when wifi setting doesn't work in the settings.
It has been 12 hours and the wifi calling icon hasn't disappeared. I've received emails and texts as well. Hopefully this can be a permanent at home solution. I wonder what causes the cell network to just drop and stay unconnected while the phones on lock though.

Are you using ant task killers or battery saving apps? They can turn off your data and so many other processes, they do more harm than good.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T889 using xda premium
I have no battery saving apps, all i use is the stock task manager for ending tasks.
UPDATE:
WiFi calling with wake lock seemed to work most of the day. I received many texts and calls from at least 5 different people over the coarse of the day. But then... I go in my garage and lose wifi signal and the phone doesn't connect to a tower and i miss someone trying to call me. Same deal.. no missed call notification and they said it just goes straight to VM without ringing. I write it off as not a big deal as long as the rest of my house wifi calling allows me to miss nothing.
I sleep for a few hours and i wake up and hit my lock screen. The screen flashes on and it shows the WiFi calling symbol.. then lags and flashes to it being gone. I then use my house phone to call it and of course.. no ringing.. straight to VM. I have also received no emails/texts during this time.
I open the battery usage and during the last 15 hours or so there are small increments of signal loss. The whole bar is yellow which isnt great but should still work. But there are small slivers missing completely, and they are identical to the WiFi usage as well. Both show the same 0 signal at the same time.
I'm at my wits end with this problem.. i have tried just about everything from factory reset, SIM reset, using WiFi calling on both my router bands, using settings to keep WiFi on when phones charging. The problem persists on 4g and WIFI. Currently I'm set to GSM only to test this issue using EDGE.
The odd thing is my brother has the same phone and although he reported a few missed calls via wifi calling, nothing as serious as my issue of several blocks of time with 0 signal at all.
I noticed the new update rolling out changes the baseband.. would this do anything to fix any issues with connectivity? Ive read numerous people with this issue using various phones/carriers and the only fix seemed to be getting a new phone number. I hope this isn't the case.
I think you might need a microcell
I'm not sure if that would really help. Like I said I have above average coverage at my house. I never had a problem with my vibrant and the other 2 lines dont have problems. This morning I flashed jedi x7 and I now have a 3g and a H+ icon. I notice that im 95% on 3g and it sporadically switches to H+ randomly for only a few seconds. Also as about 6 hours have past, my network signal in battery usage is a solid bar with no signal loss. Time will tell if that stays true.
One other thing of note, if I perform a speed test when it's on 3g.. I ping 1k+ but pull around 15mbit. When H+ is up before I start the test I ping under 100 and pull 15mbit. Perhaps the constant switching is causing me to disconnect from the tower for brief moments.
