Where can I get my hands on the CM 6.1 kernel?
What form are you looking for it in? You can get the boot.img from the rom. That has the zimage in it.....

I wanna flash the CM 6.1 stable release kernel onto Enom's rom, mind telling me I can do this with the boot.img file?
What is your reason for wanting to do this, I am just curious.

K so I got a quick question. I installed baconbits a while ago, I have cyanogen rc3 installed and I plan to update to final.
My question is I want to replace my kernel with flippy's new one. Do I need to do anything to remove the old kernel or..?
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Any kernel you flash will overwrite the old one just make sure the kernel is compatable with whatever rom you are useing. Make a backup if your unsure or care about your data.

Just a note: don't try to install baconbits on top of Cyanogenmod. Its highly unstable. baconbits was designed as a sort of preview kernal to be installed on stock roms, and the actual Cyanogenmod already has all of the features in baconbits.

Hey guys, I can't seem to find the answer to this question...
I have CM 6.1 ROM on my G2 and I would like to flash pershoots kernel. Do I have to take any steps other than a backup of the ROM? Using rom manager, will it be a fairly smooth transition?
All I did is backup and flash pershoot over cm 6.1 using rom manager without doing anything else and everything is working perfectly fine for me

Also, I've had results vary with the different nightlies I'm using. I wouldn't sweat it if it doesn't work properly right away. That's what the backup is for. Word.
cool, thanks for your input
I really like being rooted and I used cyanogenmod 7 release candidate for at least a week and I missed stock so I flashed it back. I really don't know much about kernels, so I was wondering if a custom kernel would work on the stock Rom and change much of it?
Yes. You need a Sense based kernel.

I would recommend Lou's #8 or Chads, both run great on stock roms.
This one is nice and stable
Hydra Kernal

Im trying to extract the cm7 kernel from one of the nightlies zip so i can use it for miui, but no success. If someone has it or can show me how to get it, ill appreciate that so much!

MIUI uses the default kernel from CM7 now, unless I'm mistaken. I know 1.5.20 does.

Yah i flashed tiamat on top of it and im using link2sd, so i can't just reflash the rom because the apps are "linked2sd". But i found this app called kernel mananger though. It has the kernel in it but i dont know if that's the most recent cm7 kernel.

It's not 'simple' so to speak, if you don't know what you are doing.
There may be tools to do this via Windows, but most likely need Linux or maybe Cygwin on Windows using the Kitchen by dsixda (on XDA).
You are going to want to split the kernel from the boot image. There are tutorials around the internet on how to do this. This will result in a zImage that you can toss into anykernel skeleton and zip up. Keep in mind you will also need the modules from /system/lib/modules as well.
All of this info and tools can be found on Google and/or XDA.
Also, kernel manager from the market has a copy of the CM7 kernel. Probably the .37 kernel, that you could flash.
Kitchen: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
Anykernel files: https://github.com/koush/AnyKernel/
Boot.img Split (incase you don't want to use the Kitchen): http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Unpack,_Edit,_and_Re-Pack_Boot_Images
Kernel manager gives you the date it was released. As long as that date is after the date the MIUI rom was made you should be fine flashing from KM. For your scenario I would use CM stable kernel over the nightly kernel.
Kernel manager keeps giving me boot image fail

Question:
How do I extract the kernel from CyanogenMod 7.2, so that I can install it as a zip into a different ROM? Do I have to build from source?
Why I ask:
I'm trying MIUI (1.12.9 from MIUI.us), but it has a Bluetooth problem. It can pair with my laptop and can connect to send files, but it won't connect to a program I have (Type2Phone) that lets me use my laptop as a Bluetooth keyboard for my mobile devices. All I get is "Paired but not connected." CyanogenMod (7.2.0 and 9) and AOKP (official ICS) don't have this problem; it's specific to MIUI.
I think it's a kernel issue. This MIUI version is based on Android 2.3.5 and comes with kernel version 2.6.35.14-cyanogenmod-g9e5cdf1. If CM 7.2.0 (which is based on Android 2.3.7) final has a different kernel version, I'd like to try installing that kernel into MIUI if possible.

Have you tried it with aeros kernel? His .7 was the preferred kernel by many.

I'd try it but I can't seem to find any links to it that aren't broken.

Ask reville. He had some old stuff on a site of his I think. If you can't get it from him I may have it. I am going to bed but I can maybe check tomorrow.
And look back at the miui thread and see if it was posted in the last few pages.

Download dsixda rom kitchen.
You can extract kernels using that.
Try googling!

Revile's site:

But you will only get back to .8 kernel.

Though I had it. Hope this helps.

Thanks, everyone. I ended up going with khamsakamal48's unofficial MIUI v4 ROM, which solves my Bluetooth problem and is really good. So far it's my favorite ROM, compared to stock 2.3.3, CM 7.2, CM9, and AOKP ICS. Between that ROM, Google Now for ICS (MIUI Now), a replacement MicroSD card I bought yesterday (previous one was defective), and finding out that my headphone jack wasn't damaged (works with earbuds, just not the big headphones I'd been trying it with), it feels like I've got a whole new phone.

Thanks. I'll make note of that for future reference.
